  • Rails routing/polymorphism issue - how to model the following

    Hi all, I have an app where a 'user' belong to a 'client' or a 'vendor' (and client and vendor has_many users). In the admin namespace, I want to administer these users - so an admin would choose a client or a vendor, then nav to that client's or vendor's users. My question is, short of making the user model polymorphic, how could I model/route this? Here is what I have in terms of routing: map.namespace :admin do |admin| admin.resources :clients admin.resources :vendors end I know I could do something like: map.namespace :admin do |admin| admin.resources :clients do |client| client.resources :users admin.resources :vendors do |vendor| vendor.resources :users end end But the above would definitely need me to treat the User as polymorphic. I'm just wondering what you would recommend or what my options are. Thanks.

    Hello. I'm looking into a possible feature for my little to-do application... I like the idea that I can send an email to a particular email address, containing a to-do task I need to complete, and this will be read by my web application and be put in the database... So, when I come to log into my application, the to-do task I emailed will be there as a entry in the app. Is this possible? I have a slice with SliceHost (basically a dedicated server) so I have total control on what to install etc. I'm using Python/Django/MySQL for this. Any ideas on what steps to take to make this happen?

  • Spaces in SETX PATH command

    Suppose my PATH is C:\WINDOWS\system32\;C:\Program Files\Important\ SET NEW_PATH=C:\My\Dir\ SETX PATH "%PATH%;%NEW_PATH%" Results in a path of: C:\WINDOWS\system32\;C:\Program Files\Important\;C:\My\Dir" Notice the quotation mark at the end of the path. It's as though the backslash at the end of %NEW_PATH% escaped the final quote mark. I need the quotation marks because I have spaces in my path, but I don't want backslashes to be interpreted as escape characters. What's the right way to include my PATH in the call to SETX?

  • Logs overwritten in CruiseCControl.NET when there is multiple MSBuild Tasks.

    I have two MSBuild tasks in my CC.NET config. In the end of the execution, i can see two blocks of warnings/errors in the log and published email. But the problem is that the contents of both the blocks are the same and that is from the second MSBuild task!! In another way, the second MSBuild task overwrites the first log, and then creates another one for itself effectively creating two exactly identical block!!! Do anybody have any thoughts on this?   • Passing multiple arguments to a UNIX shell script

    I have the following (bash) shell script, that I would ideally use to kill multiple processes by name. #!/bin/bash kill `ps -A | grep $* | awk '{ print $1 }'` However, while this script works is one argument is passed: end chrome (the name of the script is end) it does not work if more than one argument is passed: $end chrome firefox grep: firefox: No such file or directory What is going on here? I thought the $* passes multiple arguments to the shell script in sequence. I'm not mistyping anything in my input - and I the programs I want to kill (chrome and firefox) are open. Any help is appreciated.

    I am doing a query that converts rows to columns similar to this post but have encountered a performance problem. Here is the query:- SELECT Info.Customer, Answers.Answer, Answers.AnswerDescription, Details.Code1, Details.Code2, Details.Code3 FROM Info LEFT OUTER JOIN Answers ON Info.AnswerID = Answers.AnswerID LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT ReferenceNo, MAX(CASE DetailsIndicator WHEN 'cde1' THEN DetailsCode ELSE NULL END ) Code1, MAX(CASE DetailsIndicator WHEN 'cde2' THEN DetailsCode ELSE NULL END ) Code2, MAX(CASE DetailsIndicator WHEN 'cde3' THEN DetailsCode ELSE NULL END ) Code3 FROM DetailsData GROUP BY ReferenceNo) Details ON Info.ReferenceNo = Details.ReferenceNo There are less than 300 rows returned, but the Details table is about 180 thousand rows. The query takes 45 seconds to run and needs to take only a few seconds. When I type show processlist; into MYSQL it is hanging on "Sending Data". Any thoughts as to what the performance problem might be?

    So I get the time at the beginning of the code, run it, and then get the time. struct timeval begin, end; gettimeofday(&begin, NULL); //code to time gettimeofday(&end, NULL); //get the total number of ms that the code took: unsigned int t = end.tv_usec - begin.tv_usec; Now I want to print it out in the form "**code took 0.007 seconds to run" or something similar. So two problems: 1) t seems to contain a value of the order 6000, and I KNOW the code didn't take 6 seconds to run. 2) How can I convert t to a double, given that it's an unsigned int? Or is there an easier way to print the output the way I wanted to?

  • Where would you document standardized complex data that is passed between many objects and methods?

    Hi All, I often find myself with fairly complex data that represents something that my objects will be working on. For example, in a task-list app, several objects might work with an array of tasks, each of which has attributes, temporal expressions, sub tasks and sub sub tasks, etc. One object will collect data from web forms, standardize it into a format consumable by the class that will save them to the database, another object will pull them from the database, put them in the standard format and pass them to the display object, or the update object, etc. The data itself can become a fairly complex series of arrays and sub arrays, representing a 'task' or list of tasks. For example, the below might be one entry in a task list, in the format that is consumable by the various objects that will work on it. Normally, I just document this in a file somewhere with an example. However, I am thinking about the best way to add it to something like PHPDoc, or another standard doc system. Where would you document your consumable data formats that are for many or all of the objects / methods in your app?     Hi, I have a little problem with declarative-authorization. I have a User and Role Model with a has_and_belongs_to_many association. I've created a Role named :moderator in my authorization_rules.rb Is it possible that a User with the Role Moderator only gets the Users that have the Moderator Role assigned to it?? -- User.with_permissions_to(:index) I thought it would be possible like that: role :moderator do has_permission_on :users, :to => :index do if_attribute :roles => contains { ????? } end end I also created a named_scope in my User Model because I thought it would help... class User has_and_belongs_to_many :roles named_scope :by_role, lambda { |role| { :include => :roles, :conditions => {"roles.name" => role} } } end Does anyone knows if it's possible to do this with declarative_authorization?   • How do I copy input from one textbox to another via checkbox using jQuery?

    I'm cleaning up a simple form that has a Start Date textbox and an End Date textbox. I want to add a checkbox in between these fields that the user can check if the End Date is the same as the Start Date, so when they check it, the Start Date input value (e.g., 04/01/09) will automagically appear in the End Date textbox, so they don't have to type in the same date twice. Does that make sense? BTW, I'm using the sexy jquery datepicker UI, and it's sweet, but I just can't figure out the above problem. I know there's a simple solution (event handler?) but I'm stumped.

  • Why is .NET faster than C++ in this case?

    -edit- I LOVE SLaks comment. "The amount of misinformation in these answers is staggering." :D Calm down guys. Pretty much all of you were wrong. I DID make optimizations. It turns out whatever optimizations I made wasn't good enough. I ran the code in GCC using gettimeofday (I'll paste code below) and used g++ -O2 file.cpp and got slightly faster results then C#. Maybe MS didn't create the optimizations needed in this specific case but after downloading and installing mingw I was tested and found the speed to be near identical. Justicle Seems to be right. I could have sworn I use clock on my PC and used that to count and found it was slower but problem solved. C++ speed isn't almost twice as slower in the MS compiler. When my friend informed me of this I couldn't believe it. So I took his code and put some timers onto it. Instead of Boo I used C#. I constantly got faster results in C#. Why? The .NET version was nearly half the time no matter what number I used.   • Passing single attributes to associated factories

    I'm looking for a way to pass fields into the factories of associated models without having to explicitly call the factory itself. For example, lets say I have some factories like so: Factory.define :person do |person| person.name "Default Bob" person.sex "M" person.house {|p| p.association(:house)} end Factory.define :house do |house| house.color "Red" house.has_ac true house.suburb {|h| h.association(:suburb)} end Factory.define :suburb do |suburb| suburb.name "Little boxes" end This is fine and all, but if I want to use factories to create someone in a specific house in a specific suburb I have do this: sub = Factory(:suburb, :name => "Blue town") house = Factory(:house, :color => "Blue", :suburb => sub) person = Factory(:person, :name => "Bill", :house => house) While this isn't bad in this small case, my actual models sometimes have 7 or 8 associations, and when I want to create an object whose associations I only care about a single attribute, the code for this starts to get really heavy. Is there somewhat I can pass attributes to nested Factories without having to recall the Factory itself?

    Is it possible to create a WCF service (web service) that only accepts a single connection at any one time with all other calls either queued or rejected. Need to implement the competitive consumer pattern where there are a number of clients which could deal with task at hand but when a client askes for more work a task must go to only one of them. Usual done as part of an enterprise service bus but can not find one that I'm happy to start using so looking to get this behaviour through a WCF service. Any ideas people ?

The stored procedure either gets the userid or insert the user if it is a new user. Am I correct to assume that the table is locked (only one server can insert/query)?
