  • Can output from OutputDebugString be viewed in VisualStudio's output window

    - by wageoghe
    I am using C# and VS2010. When I use OutputDebugString to write debug information, should it show up in the output window? I can see the output from OutputDebugString in DebugView, but I thought I would see it in Visual Studio's Output window. I have looked under Tools-Options-Debugging-General and the output is NOT being redirected to the Immediate window. I have also looked under Tools-Options-Debugging-Output Window and all General Output Settings are set to "On". Finally, I have used the drop-down list in the Output window to specify that Debug messages should appear. If I change Tools-Options-Debugging-General to redirect the output to the Immediate window, the OutputDebugString messages do not appear in the immediate window. Here is my entire test program: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; using System.Diagnostics; namespace OutputDebugString { class Program { [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] public static extern void OutputDebugString(string message); static void Main(string[] args) { Console.WriteLine("Main - Enter - Console.WriteLine"); Debug.WriteLine("Main - Enter - Debug.WriteLine"); OutputDebugString("Main - Enter - OutputDebugString"); OutputDebugString("Main - Exit - OutputDebugString"); Debug.WriteLine("Main - Exit - Debug.WriteLine"); Console.WriteLine("Main - Exit - Console.WriteLine"); } } } If I run within the debugger, the Debug.WriteLine output does show up in the output window, but the OutputDebugString output does not. If I run from a console window, both Debug.WriteLine and OutputDebugString show up in DebugView. Why doesn't the OutputDebugString output ever show up in the output window? Ultimately, my intent is not to write a lot of debug output with OutputDebugString, rather I will use System.Diagnostics or NLog or something similar. I am just trying to find out, if I configure a logging platform to write to OutputDebugString, will the output be visible from within the debugger. Edit: I went back to my original program (not the simple test above) which uses TraceSources and TraceListeners configured via the app.config file. If I configure the trace sources to write to the System.Diagnostics.DefaultTraceListener (which is documented as writing to OutputDebugString), then the trace source output DOES go to the debug window. However, lines that write directly with OutputDebugString (such as in my simple example) DO NOT go to the debug window. Also, if I use a different TraceListener that writes to OutputDebugString (I got one from Ukadc.Diagnostics at codeplex), that output DOES NOT go to the debug window. Note that I have seen these questions but they did not provide a working solution: here and here

  • What is the best way get and hold property reference by name in c#

    - by Jeff Weber
    I want to know if there is a better way (than what I'm currently doing) to obtain and hold a reference to a property in another object using only the object and property string names. Particularly, is there a better way to do this with the new dynamic functionality of .Net 4.0? Here is what I have right now. I have a "PropertyReference<T>" object that takes an object name and property name in the constructor. An Initialize() method uses reflection to find the object and property and stores the property Getter as an Action<T> and the property Setter as an Func<T>. When I want to actually call the property I do something like this: int x = _propertyReference.Get(); or _propertyReference.Set(2); Here is my PropertyReference<T> code. Please dissect and make suggestions for improvement. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Reflection; using System.Xml; namespace WindowsFormsApplication2 { public class PropertyReference<T> : IPropertyReference { public string ComponentName { get; set; } public string PropertyName { get; set; } public bool IsInitialized { get { return (_action != null && _func != null); } } Action<T> _action; Func<T> _func; public PropertyReference() { } public PropertyReference(string componentName, string propertyName) { ComponentName = componentName; PropertyName = propertyName; } public void Initialize(IEntity e) { Object component = e.GetByName(ComponentName); if (component == null) return; Type t = e.GetByName(ComponentName).GetType(); PropertyInfo pi = t.GetProperty(PropertyName); _action = (T a) => pi.SetValue(component, a, null); _func = () => (T)pi.GetValue(component, null); } public void Reset() { _action = null; _func = null; } public void Set(T value) { _action.Invoke(value); } public T Get() { return _func(); } } } Note: I can't use the "Emit" functionality as I need this code to work on the new Windows Phone 7 and that does not support Emit.

  • Good working habits to observe in project development?

    - by Will Marcouiller
    As my development experience grows, I see fit to stick to best practices from here and there to build somehow my own working practices while observing the conventions, etc. I'm currently working on a project which my goals is to graduate the security access model from an environment's Active Directory to another environment's automatically. I don't know for any of you, but as far as I'm concerned, I meet some real difficulties sticking to only one way, then develop. I mean, I learn something new everyday while visiting SO, and recently wanted to get acquainted with generics. On the other hand, I better know the Façade pattern which proved to be very practical in transactional programming in process systems. This seems to be less practical for desktop application as there are plenty of variables to consider in a desktop application that you don't have to care in transactional programming, as you're playing only with information data. As for my current project, I have: Groups; Organizational Units; Users. Which are all considered an entry in the Active Directory. This points out to be a good candidate for generics, as also approached this way by Bart de Smett's Linq to AD on CodePlex. He has a DirectorySource<T>, and to manage let's say groups, then he instantiate a source with the proper type: var groups = new DirectorySource<Group>(); This seems to be very a good way of doing. Despite, I seem to go from one pattern to another and I don't seem to be able to strictly stick to one. While I'm aware that one must not stay with only one way of doing, since each pattern statisfies certain advantages, while also illustrating disadvantages under some usage conditions, I seem to want to develop with both patterns having a singleton Façade class with the underlying factories which represent the sub systems: GroupsFactory; UsersFactory; OrganizationalUnitsFactory. Each of the factories offers the possible operations for their respective entity (group, user, OU). To make a very long story short, I often have plenty of ideas while developping and this causes me some trouble, as I go from an idea to another feeling completely lost after a while. Yet I understand the advantages and disavantages, I have no trouble choosing from one pattern to another depending on the situation. Nevertheless, when it comes to programming itself, if I'm not part of a team, I feel sometimes like I can't do anything good. That is, because I can't stand not doing something "perfect" the first time. The role I play within the project is both: the project manager and the programmer. I am more comfortable in the project manager role, architectural role, analytical role than the developer's. Has any of you some good habbits to observe in project development? Thanks to you all! =)

  • How to access and work with XML from API in C#

    - by Jarek
    My goal is to pull XML data from the API and load it to a sql server database. The frist step I'm attempting here is to access the data and display it. Once I get this to work I'll loop through each row and insert the values into a sql server database. When I try to run the code below nothing happens and when I paste the url directly into the browser I get this error "2010-03-08 04:24:17 Wallet exhausted: retry after 2010-03-08 05:23:58. 2010-03-08 05:23:58" To me it seems that every iteration of the foreach loop makes a call to the site and I get blocked for an hour. Am I retrieving data from the API in an incorrect manner? Is there some way to load the data into memory or an array then loop through that? Here's the bit of code I hacked together. using System; using System.Data.SqlClient; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; using System.Xml; using System.Data; public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { try { string userID = "123"; string apiKey = "abc456"; string characterID = "789"; string url = "http://api.eve-online.com/char/WalletTransactions.xml.aspx?userID=" + userID + "&apiKey=" + apiKey + "&characterID=" + characterID; XmlDocument xmldoc = new XmlDocument(); xmldoc.Load(url); XmlNamespaceManager xnm1 = new XmlNamespaceManager(xmldoc.NameTable); XmlNodeList nList1 = xmldoc.SelectNodes("result/rowset/row", xnm1); foreach (XmlNode xNode in nList1) { Response.Write(xNode.InnerXml + "<br />"); } } catch (SqlException em) { Response.Write(em.Message); } } } Here's a sample of the xml <eveapi version="2"> <currentTime>2010-03-06 17:38:35</currentTime> <result> <rowset name="transactions" key="transactionID" columns="transactionDateTime,transactionID,quantity,typeName,typeID,price,clientID,clientName,stationID,stationName,transactionType,transactionFor"> <row transactionDateTime="2010-03-06 17:16:00" transactionID="1343566007" quantity="1" typeName="Co-Processor II" typeID="3888" price="1122999.00" clientID="1404318579" clientName="unseenstrike" stationID="60011572" stationName="Osmeden IX - Moon 6 - University of Caille School" transactionType="sell" transactionFor="personal" /> <row transactionDateTime="2010-03-06 17:15:00" transactionID="1343565894" quantity="1" typeName="Co-Processor II" typeID="3888" price="1150000.00" clientID="1404318579" clientName="unseenstrike" stationID="60011572" stationName="Osmeden IX - Moon 6 - University of Caille School" transactionType="sell" transactionFor="personal" /> </rowset> </result> <cachedUntil>2010-03-06 17:53:35</cachedUntil> </eveapi>

  • Add new row to asp .net grid view using button

    - by SARAVAN
    Hi, I am working in ASP .net 2.0. I am a learner. I have a grid view which has a button in it. Please find the asp mark up below <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div> <asp:GridView ID="myGridView" runat="server"> <Columns> <asp:TemplateField> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Button CommandName="AddARowBelow" Text="Add A Row Below" runat="server" /> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> </Columns> </asp:GridView> </div> </form> Please find the code behind below. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using System.Data; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; namespace GridViewDemo { public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { DataTable dt = new DataTable("myTable"); dt.Columns.Add("col1"); dt.Columns.Add("col2"); dt.Columns.Add("col3"); dt.Rows.Add(1, 2, 3); dt.Rows.Add(1, 2, 3); dt.Rows.Add(1, 2, 3); dt.Rows.Add(1, 2, 3); dt.Rows.Add(1, 2, 3); myGridView.DataSource = dt; myGridView.DataBind(); } protected void myGridView_RowCommand(object sender, GridViewCommandEventArgs e) { } } } I was thinking that when I click the command button, it would fire the mygridview_rowcommand() but instead it threw an error as follows: Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" % in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation. Can any one let me know on where I am going wrong?

  • What Regex can strip e.g. "note:" and "firstName: " from the left of a string?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    I need to strip the "label" off the front of strings, e.g. note: this is a note needs to return: note and this is a note I've produced the following code example but am having trouble with the regexes. What code do I need in the two ???????? areas below so that I get the desired results shown in the comments? using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Text.RegularExpressions; namespace TestRegex8822 { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { List<string> lines = new List<string>(); lines.Add("note: this is a note"); lines.Add("test: just a test"); lines.Add("test:\t\t\tjust a test"); lines.Add("firstName: Jim"); //"firstName" IS a label because it does NOT contain a space lines.Add("She said this to him: follow me."); //this is NOT a label since there is a space before the colon lines.Add("description: this is the first description"); lines.Add("description:this is the second description"); //no space after colon lines.Add("this is a line with no label"); foreach (var line in lines) { Console.WriteLine(StringHelpers.GetLabelFromLine(line)); Console.WriteLine(StringHelpers.StripLabelFromLine(line)); Console.WriteLine("--"); //note //this is a note //-- //test //just a test //-- //test //just a test //-- //firstName //Jim //-- // //She said this to him: follow me. //-- //description //this is the first description //-- //description //this is the first description //-- // //this is a line with no label //-- } Console.ReadLine(); } } public static class StringHelpers { public static string GetLabelFromLine(this string line) { string label = line.GetMatch(@"^?:(\s)"); //??????????????? if (!label.IsNullOrEmpty()) return label; else return ""; } public static string StripLabelFromLine(this string line) { return ...//??????????????? } public static bool IsNullOrEmpty(this string line) { return String.IsNullOrEmpty(line); } } public static class RegexHelpers { public static string GetMatch(this string text, string regex) { Match match = Regex.Match(text, regex); if (match.Success) { string theMatch = match.Groups[0].Value; return theMatch; } else { return null; } } } }

  • Time required for a process to complete

    - by yelkawar
    I am new to C# world. I am attempting to calculate time taken by a algorithum for the purpose of comparison. Following code measures the elapsed time from when a subroutine is called until the subroutine returns to the main program.This example is taken from "Data structures through C#" by Michael McMillan. After running this program the output is Time=0, which is incorrect. The program appears to be logically correct. Can anybody help me. Following is the code using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Collections; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace Chap1 { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { int num1 = 100; int num2 = 200; Console.WriteLine("num1: " + num1); Console.WriteLine("num2: " + num2); Swap<int>(ref num1, ref num2); Console.WriteLine("num1: " + num1); Console.WriteLine("num2: " + num2); string str1 = "Sam"; string str2 = "Tom"; Console.WriteLine("String 1: " + str1); Console.WriteLine("String 2: " + str2); Swap<string>(ref str1, ref str2); Console.WriteLine("String 1: " + str1); Console.WriteLine("String 2: " + str2); Console.ReadKey(); } static void Swap<T>(ref T val1, ref T val2) { T temp; temp = val1; val1 = val2; val2 = temp; } } class Timing { TimeSpan StartTiming; TimeSpan duration; public Timing() { StartTiming = new TimeSpan(0); duration = new TimeSpan(0); } public TimeSpan startTime() { GC.Collect(); GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers(); StartTiming = Process.GetCurrentProcess().Threads[0].UserProcessorTime; return StartTiming; } public void stopTime() { duration = Process.GetCurrentProcess().Threads[0].UserProcessorTime.Subtract(StartTiming); } public TimeSpan result() { return duration; } } }

  • How does this Singleton-like web class persists session data, even though session is not updated in

    - by Micah Burnett
    Ok, I've got this singleton-like web class which uses session to maintain state. I initially thought I was going to have to manipulate the session variables on each "set" so that the new values were updated in the session. However I tried using it as-is, and somehow, it remembers state. For example, if run this code on one page: UserContext.Current.User.FirstName = "Micah"; And run this code in a different browser tab, FirstName is displayed correctly: Response.Write(UserContext.Current.User.FirstName); Can someone tell me (prove) how this data is getting persisted in the session? Here is the class: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; public class UserContext { private UserContext() { } public static UserContext Current { get { if (System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session["UserContext"] == null) { UserContext uc = new UserContext(); uc.User = new User(); System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session["UserContext"] = uc; } return (UserContext)System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session["UserContext"]; } } private string HospitalField; public string Hospital { get { return HospitalField; } set { HospitalField = value; ContractField = null; ModelType = null; } } private string ContractField; public string Contract { get { return ContractField; } set { ContractField = value; ModelType = string.Empty; } } private string ModelTypeField; public string ModelType { get { return ModelTypeField; } set { ModelTypeField = value; } } private User UserField; public User User { get { return UserField; } set { UserField = value; } } public void DoSomething() { } } public class User { public int UserId { get; set; } public string FirstName { get; set; } } I added this to a watch, and can see that the session variable is definitely being set somewhere: (UserContext)System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session["UserContext"]; As soon as a setter is called the Session var is immediately updated: set { HospitalField = value; //<--- here ContractField = null; ModelType = null; }

  • how to: handle exceptions, best practices

    - by b0x0rz
    need to implement a global error handling, so maybe you can help out with the following example... i have this code: public bool IsUserAuthorizedToSignIn(string userEMailAddress, string userPassword) { // get MD5 hash for use in the LINQ query string passwordSaltedHash = this.PasswordSaltedHash(userEMailAddress, userPassword); // check for email / password / validity using (UserManagementDataContext context = new UserManagementDataContext()) { var users = from u in context.Users where u.UserEMailAdresses.Any(e => e.EMailAddress == userEMailAddress) && u.UserPasswords.Any(p => p.PasswordSaltedHash == passwordSaltedHash) && u.IsActive == true select u; // true if user found return (users.Count() == 1) ? true : false; } } and the md5 as well: private string PasswordSaltedHash(string userEMailAddress, string userPassword) { MD5 hasher = MD5.Create(); byte[] data = hasher.ComputeHash(Encoding.Default.GetBytes(userPassword + userEMailAddress)); StringBuilder stringBuilder = new StringBuilder(); for (int i = 0; i < data.Length; i++) { stringBuilder.Append(data[i].ToString("x2")); } Trace.WriteLine(String.Empty); Trace.WriteLine("hash: " + stringBuilder.ToString()); return stringBuilder.ToString(); } so, how would i go about handling exceptions from these functions? they first one is called from the Default.aspx page. the second one is only called from other functions from the class library. what is the best practice? surround code INSIDE each function with try-catch surround the FUNCTION CALL with try-catch something else?? what to do if exceptions happen? in this example: this is a user sign in, so somehow even if everything fails, the user should get some meaningful info - along the lines: sign in ok (just redirect), sign in not ok (wrong user name / password), sign in not possible due to internal problems, sorry (exception happened). for the first function i am worried if there is a problem with database access. not sure if there is anything that needs to be handled in the second one. thnx for the info. how would you do it? need specific info on this (easier for me to understand), but also general info on how to handle other tasks/functions. i looked around the internet but everyone has different things to say, so unsure what to do... will go with either most votes here, or most logicaly explained answer :) thank you.

  • Why does C# exit when calling the Ada elaboration routine using debug?

    - by erict
    I have a DLL created in Ada using GPS. I am dynamically loading it and calling it successfully both from Ada and from C++. But when I try to call it from C#, the program exits on the call to Elaboration init. What am I missing? The exact same DLL is perfectly happy getting called from C++ and Ada. Edit: If I start the program without Debugging, it also works with C#. But if I run it with the Debugger, then it exits on the call to ElaborationInit. There are no indications in any of the Windows event logs. If the Ada DLL is Pure, and I skip the elaboration init call, the actual function DLL is called correctly, so it has something to do with the elaboration. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; namespace CallingDLLfromCS { class Program { [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)] public static extern IntPtr LoadLibrary(string dllToLoad); [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Ansi, SetLastError = true)] public static extern IntPtr GetProcAddress(IntPtr hModule, string procedureName); [DllImport("kernel32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)] public static extern bool FreeLibrary(IntPtr hModule); [UnmanagedFunctionPointer(CallingConvention.StdCall)] delegate int AdaCallable2_dlgt(int val); static AdaCallable2_dlgt fnAdaCallable2 = null; [UnmanagedFunctionPointer(CallingConvention.StdCall)] delegate void ElaborationInit_dlgt(); static ElaborationInit_dlgt ElaborationInit = null; [UnmanagedFunctionPointer(CallingConvention.StdCall)] delegate void AdaFinal_dlgt(); static AdaFinal_dlgt AdaFinal = null; static void Main(string[] args) { int result; bool fail = false; // assume the best IntPtr pDll2 = LoadLibrary("libDllBuiltFromAda.dll"); if (pDll2 != IntPtr.Zero) { // Note the @4 is because 4 bytes are passed. • ASP.NET MVC CRUD PartialView Popup Issue

    - by Smiley Face
    I am creating an MVC website which makes use of Partial Views on Popups to handle all my CRUD transactions. Please note that my application can already handle these CRUD operations perfectly (LINQ-To-Entity). However, I have a problem with my popup forms. It is rendered through this code: @Html.ActionLink("[Add Product]", "_Add", new { ProductCode = @ViewData["ProductCode"] }, new { @class = "editLink" }) This works okay. I mean it adds product to my database. But my problem is upon clicking the Proceed button, I get this pop-up download dialog from the page: Can somebody please help me with this? I have a hunch it's because of the HttpMethod i'm using (POST, PUT, GET, DELETE) but i'm not really sure which one is right to use or if it really is the problem in the first place. Any help would be greatly appreciated! PS. Sorry for the long post.

  • sending email in .NET

    - by VP
    I am getting the following error when I try to send an email in my C# program. I am using Visual Studio 2008 on windows 7. I would paste my code first and then the error: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.IO; using System.Net; using System.Net.Mail; using System.Net.Mime; using System.Net.Sockets; using System.Web; class email_log_files { private string login_username = "my_gmail_id"; private string login_password = "my_gmail_password"; public void send_email() { string src_address = "[email protected]"; string dest_address = "[email protected]"; try { MailMessage email_msg = new MailMessage(); SmtpClient email_client = new SmtpClient(); email_msg.From = new MailAddress(src_address); email_msg.Sender = new MailAddress(src_address); email_msg.ReplyTo = new MailAddress(src_address); email_msg.To.Add(dest_address); email_msg.Subject = "Test"; email_msg.Body = "Body of the message"; NetworkCredential credentials = new NetworkCredential(login_username, login_password); email_client.Credentials = credentials; email_client.Host = "smtp.gmail.com"; email_client.Port = 465; email_client.EnableSsl = true; email_client.Send(email_msg); Console.WriteLine("Message Sent Successfully!!"); Console.ReadLine(); } catch (Exception ex) { Console.WriteLine(ex.Message.ToString()); Console.WriteLine(ex.InnerException); Console.WriteLine(ex.Source); Console.WriteLine(ex.Data); Console.ReadLine(); } } } And the error message is as follows: The operation has timed out.   • protobuf-net NOT faster than binary serialization?

    - by Ashish Gupta
    I wrote a program to serialize a 'Person' class using XMLSerializer, BinaryFormatter and ProtoBuf. I thought protobuf-net should be faster than the other two. Protobuf serialization was faster than XMLSerialization but much slower than the binary serialization. Is my understanding incorrect? Please make me understand this. Thank you for the help. Following is the output:- Person got created using protocol buffer in 347 milliseconds Person got created using XML in 1462 milliseconds Person got created using binary in 2 milliseconds Code below using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using ProtoBuf; using System.IO; using System.Diagnostics; using System.Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.Binary; namespace ProtocolBuffers { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { string XMLSerializedFileName = "PersonXMLSerialized.xml"; string ProtocolBufferFileName = "PersonProtocalBuffer.bin"; string BinarySerializedFileName = "PersonBinary.bin"; var person = new Person { Id = 12345, Name = "Fred", Address = new Address { Line1 = "Flat 1", Line2 = "The Meadows" } }; Stopwatch watch = Stopwatch.StartNew(); watch.Start(); using (var file = File.Create(ProtocolBufferFileName)) { Serializer.Serialize(file, person); } watch.Stop(); Console.WriteLine(watch.ElapsedMilliseconds.ToString()); Console.WriteLine("Person got created using protocol buffer in " + watch.ElapsedMilliseconds.ToString() + " milliseconds " ); watch.Reset(); watch.Start(); System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer x = new System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer(person.GetType()); using (TextWriter w = new StreamWriter(XMLSerializedFileName)) { x.Serialize(w, person); } watch.Stop(); Console.WriteLine(watch.ElapsedMilliseconds.ToString()); Console.WriteLine("Person got created using XML in " + watch.ElapsedMilliseconds.ToString() + " milliseconds"); watch.Reset(); watch.Start(); using (Stream stream = File.Open(BinarySerializedFileName, FileMode.Create)) { BinaryFormatter bformatter = new BinaryFormatter(); //Console.WriteLine("Writing Employee Information"); bformatter.Serialize(stream, person); } watch.Stop(); Console.WriteLine(watch.ElapsedMilliseconds.ToString()); Console.WriteLine("Person got created using binary in " + watch.ElapsedMilliseconds.ToString() + " milliseconds"); Console.ReadLine(); } } [ProtoContract] [Serializable] public class Person { [ProtoMember(1)] public int Id {get;set;} [ProtoMember(2)] public string Name { get; set; } [ProtoMember(3)] public Address Address {get;set;} } [ProtoContract] [Serializable] public class Address { [ProtoMember(1)] public string Line1 {get;set;} [ProtoMember(2)] public string Line2 {get;set;} } }

  • On Redirect - Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server...

    - by Craig Russell
    Hello (this is a long post sorry), I am writing a application in ASP.NET MVC 2 and I have reached a point where I am receiving this error when I connect remotely to my Server. Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed. I thought I had worked around this problem locally, as I was getting this error in debug when site was redirected to a baseUrl if a subdomain was invalid using this code: protected override void Initialize(RequestContext requestContext) { string[] host = requestContext.HttpContext.Request.Headers["Host"].Split(':'); _siteProvider.Initialise(host, LiveMeet.Properties.Settings.Default["baseUrl"].ToString()); base.Initialize(requestContext); } protected override void OnActionExecuting(ActionExecutingContext filterContext) { if (Site == null) { string[] host = filterContext.HttpContext.Request.Headers["Host"].Split(':'); string newUrl; if (host.Length == 2) newUrl = "http://sample.local:" + host[1]; else newUrl = "http://sample.local"; Response.Redirect(newUrl, true); } ViewData["Site"] = Site; base.OnActionExecuting(filterContext); } public Site Site { get { return _siteProvider.GetCurrentSite(); } } The Site object is returned from a Provider named siteProvider, this does two checks, once against a database containing a list of all available subdomains, then if that fails to find a valid subdomain, or valid domain name, searches a memory cache of reserved domains, if that doesn't hit then returns a baseUrl where all invalid domains are redirected. locally this worked when I added the true to Response.Redirect, assuming a halting of the current execution and restarting the execution on the browser redirect. What I have found in the stack trace is that the error is thrown on the second attempt to access the database. #region ISiteProvider Members public void Initialise(string[] host, string basehost) { if (host[0].Contains(basehost)) host = host[0].Split('.'); Site getSite = GetSites().WithDomain(host[0]); if (getSite == null) { sites.TryGetValue(host[0], out getSite); } _site = getSite; } public Site GetCurrentSite() { return _site; } public IQueryable<Site> GetSites() { return from p in _repository.groupDomains select new Site { Host = p.domainName, GroupGuid = (Guid)p.groupGuid, IsSubDomain = p.isSubdomain }; } #endregion The Linq query ^^^ is hit first, with a filter of WithDomain, the error isn't thrown till the WithDomain filter is attempted. In summary: The error is hit after the page is redirected, so the first iteration is executing as expected (so permissions on the database are correct, user profiles etc) shortly after the redirect when it filters the database query for the possible domain/subdomain of current redirected page, it errors out.

  • Why is my namespace not recognized in Visual Studio / xaml

    - by msfanboy
    Hello, these are my 2 classes a Attachable Property SelectedItems: code is from here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1297643/sync-selecteditems-in-a-muliselect-listbox-with-a-collection-in-viewmodel The namespace TBM.Helper is for sure proper as it works for other classes too. The namespace reference is also in the xaml file: xmlns:Helper="clr_namespace:TBM.Helper" But <ListBox Helper:SelectedItems.Items="{Binding SelectedItems}" ... does not work because = The property 'SelectedItems.Items' does not exist in XML namespace 'clr_namespace:TBM.Helper'. I made a launcher for my game server. (World of Warcraft) I want to get the installpath of the game, browsed by the user. I'm using this code to browse, and get the installpath, then set some other strings from the installpath string, then just strore in my registry key. using System; using System.Drawing; using System.Reflection; using System.Collections; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Windows.Forms; using System.Data; using Microsoft.Win32; using System.IO; using System.Net.NetworkInformation; using System.Diagnostics; using System.Runtime; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; using System.Security; using System.Security.Cryptography; using System.Text; using System.Net; using System.Linq; using System.Net.Sockets; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Threading; namespace WindowsFormsApplication1 { public partial class Form1 : Form { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); } string InstallPath, WoWExe, PatchPath; private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { RegistryKey LocalMachineKey_Existence; MessageBox.Show("Browse your install location.", "Select Wow.exe"); OpenFileDialog BrowseInstallPath = new OpenFileDialog(); BrowseInstallPath.Filter = "wow.exe|*.exe"; if (BrowseInstallPath.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { InstallPath = System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(BrowseInstallPath.FileName); WoWExe = InstallPath + "\\wow.exe"; PatchPath = InstallPath + "\\Data\\"; LocalMachineKey_Existence = Registry.LocalMachine.CreateSubKey(@"SOFTWARE\ExistenceWoW"); LocalMachineKey_Existence.SetValue("InstallPathLocation", InstallPath); LocalMachineKey_Existence.SetValue("PatchPathLocation", PatchPath); LocalMachineKey_Existence.SetValue("WoWExeLocation", WoWExe); } } } } The problem is: On some computer, it doesnt stores like it should be. For example, your wow.exe is in C:\ASD\wow.exe, your select it with the browse windows, then the program should store it in the Existence registry key as C:\ASD\Data\ but it stores like this: C:\ASDData , so it forgots a backslash :S Look at this picture: http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/2829/regedita.jpg My program works cool on my PC, and on my friends pc, but on some pc this "bug" comes out :S I have windows 7, with .NEt 3.5 Please help me.

  • ASP.NET MVC : Good Replacement for User Control?

    - by David Lively
    I found user controls to be incredibly useful when working with ASP.NET webforms. By encapsulating the code required for displaying a control with the markup, creation of reusable components was very straightforward and very, very useful. While MVC provides convenient separation of concerns, this seems to break encapsulation (ie, you can add a control without adding or using its supporting code, leading to runtime errors). Having to modify a controller every time I add a control to a view seems to me to integrate concerns, not separate them. I'd rather break the purist MVC ideology than give up the benefits of reusable, packaged controls. I need to be able to include components similar to webforms user controls throughout a site, but not for the entire site, and not at a level that belongs in a master page. These components should have their own code not just markup (to interact with the business layer), and it would be great if the page controller didn't need to know about the control. Since MVC user controls don't have codebehind, I can't see a good way to do this. Update FINALLY, a good (and, in retrospect, obvious) way to accomplish this. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.Mvc; namespace K.ObjectModel.Controls { public class TestControl : ViewUserControl { protected override void Render(System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter writer) { writer.Write("Hello World"); base.Render(writer); } } } Create a new class which inherits ViewUserControl Override the .Render() method as shown above. Register the control via its associated ASCX as you would in a webForm: <%@ Register TagName="tn" TagPrefix="k" Src="~/Views/Navigation/LeftBar.ascx"%> Use the corresponding tag in whatever view or master page that you need: <k:tn runat="server"/> Make sure your .ascx inherits your new control: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="K.ObjectModel.Controls.TestControl" %> Voila, you're up and running. This is tested with ASP.NET MVC 2, VS 2010 and .NET 4.0. Your custom tag references the ascx partial view, which inherits from the TestControl class. The control then overrides the Render() method, which is called to render the view, giving you complete control over the process from tag to output. Why does everyone try to make this so much harder than it has to be?

  • web service filling gridview awfully slow, as is paging/sorting

    - by nat
    Hi I am making a page which calls a web service to fill a gridview this is returning alot of data, and is horribly slow. i ran the svcutil.exe on the wsdl page and it generated me the class and config so i have a load of strongly typed objects coming back from each request to the many service functions. i am then using LINQ to loop around the objects grabbing the necessary information as i go, but for each row in the grid i need to loop around an object, and grab another list of objects (from the same request) and loop around each of them.. 1 to many parent object child one.. all of this then gets dropped into a custom datatable a row at a time.. hope that makes sense.... im not sure there is any way to speed up the initial load. but surely i should be able to page/sort alot faster than it is doing. as at the moment, it appears to be taking as long to page/sort as it is to load initially. i thought if when i first loaded i put the datasource of the grid in the session, that i could whip it out of the session to deal with paging/sorting and the like. basically it is doing the below protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { //init the datatable //grab the filter vars (if there are any) WebServiceObj WS = WSClient.Method(args); //fill the datatable (around and around we go) foreach (ParentObject po in WS.ReturnedObj) { var COs = from ChildObject c in WS.AnotherReturnedObj where c.whatever.equals(...) ...etc foreach(ChildObject c in COs){ myDataTable.Rows.Add(tlo.this, tlo.that, c.thisthing, c.thatthing, etc......); } } grdListing.DataSource = myDataTable; Session["dt"] = myDataTable; grdListing.DataBind(); } protected void Listing_PageIndexChanging(object sender, GridViewPageEventArgs e) { grdListing.PageIndex = e.NewPageIndex; grdListing.DataSource = Session["dt"] as DataTable; grdListing.DataBind(); } protected void Listing_Sorting(object sender, GridViewSortEventArgs e) { DataTable dt = Session["dt"] as DataTable; DataView dv = new DataView(dt); string sortDirection = " ASC"; if (e.SortDirection == SortDirection.Descending) sortDirection = " DESC"; dv.Sort = e.SortExpression + sortDirection; grdListing.DataSource = dv.ToTable(); grdListing.DataBind(); } am i doing this totally wrongly? or is the slowness just coming from the amount of data being bound in/return from the Web Service.. there are maybe 15 columns(ish) and a whole load of rows.. with more being added to the data the webservice is querying from all the time any suggestions / tips happily received thanks

  • Combobox INotifyPropertyChanged event not raised!!!

  • CRM2011 - "The given key was not present in the dictionary"

    - by DJZorrow
    I am what you call a "n00b" in CRM plugin development. I am trying to write a plugin for Microsoft's Dynamics CRM 2011 that will create a new activity entity when you create a new contact. I want this activity entity to be associated with the contact entity. This is my current code: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk; namespace ITPH_CRM_Deactivate_Account_SSP_Disable { public class SSPDisable_Plugin: IPlugin { public void Execute(IServiceProvider serviceProvider) { // Obtain the execution context from the service provider. IPluginExecutionContext context = (IPluginExecutionContext) serviceProvider.GetService(typeof(IPluginExecutionContext)); IOrganizationServiceFactory serviceFactory = (IOrganizationServiceFactory)serviceProvider.GetService(typeof(IOrganizationServiceFactory)); IOrganizationService service = serviceFactory.CreateOrganizationService(context.UserId); if (context.InputParameters.Contains("Target") && context.InputParameters["target"] is Entity) { Entity entity = context.InputParameters["Target"] as Entity; if (entity.LogicalName != "account") { return; } Entity followup = new Entity(); followup.LogicalName = "activitypointer"; followup.Attributes = new AttributeCollection(); followup.Attributes.Add("subject", "Created via Plugin."); followup.Attributes.Add("description", "This is generated by the magic of C# ..."); followup.Attributes.Add("scheduledstart", DateTime.Now.AddDays(3)); followup.Attributes.Add("actualend", DateTime.Now.AddDays(5)); if (context.OutputParameters.Contains("id")) { Guid regardingobjectid = new Guid(context.OutputParameters["id"].ToString()); string regardingobjectidType = "account"; followup["regardingobjectid"] = new EntityReference(regardingobjectidType, regardingobjectid); } service.Create(followup); } } } But when i try to run this code: I get an error when i try to create a new contact in the CRM environment. The error is: "The given key was not present in the dictionary" (Link *1). The error pops up right as i try to save the new contact. • ASP.NET MVC: How can I explain an invalid type violation to an end-user with Html.ValidationSummary?

    - by Terminal Frost
    Serious n00b warning here; please take mercy! So I finished the Nerd Dinner MVC Tutorial and I'm now in the process of converting a VB.NET application to ASP.NET MVC using the Nerd Dinner program as a sort of rough template. I am using the "IsValid / GetRuleViolations()" pattern to identify invalid user input or values that violate business rules. I am using LINQ to SQL and am taking advantage of the "OnValidate()" hook that allows me to run the validation and throw an application exception upon trying to save changes to the database via the CustomerRepository class. Anyway, everything works well, except that by the time the form values reach my validation method invalid types have already been converted to a default or existing value. (I have a "StreetNumber" property that is an integer, though I imagine this would be a problem for DateTime or any other non-strings as well.) Now, I am guessing that the UpdateModel() method throws an exception and then alters the value because the Html.ValidationMessage is displayed next to the StreetNumber field but my validation method never sees the original input. There are two problems with this: While the Html.ValidationMessage does signal that something is wrong, there is no corresponding entry in the Html.ValidationSummary. If I could even get the exception message to show up there indicating an invalid cast or something that would be better than nothing. My validation method which resides in my Customer partial class never sees the original user input so I do not know if the problem is a missing entry or an invalid type. I can't figure out how I can keep my validation logic nice and neat in one place and still get access to the form values. I could of course write some logic in the View that processes the user input, however that seems like the exact opposite of what I should be doing with MVC. Do I need a new validation pattern or is there some way to pass the original form values to my model class for processing? CustomerController Code // POST: /Customers/Edit/[id] [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Edit(int id, FormCollection formValues) { Customer customer = customerRepository.GetCustomer(id); try { UpdateModel(customer); customerRepository.Save(); return RedirectToAction("Details", new { id = customer.AccountID }); } catch { foreach (var issue in customer.GetRuleViolations()) ModelState.AddModelError(issue.PropertyName, issue.ErrorMessage); } return View(customer); }

  • .NET AES returns wrong Test Vectors

  • custom control in DataGridTemplateColumn

    - by Johnsonlu
    Hi all, I'd like to add my custom control into a template column of data grid. The custom control is very similar to a text box, but has an icon in it. The user can click the icon, and selects an item from a prompted window, then the selected item will be filled into the text box. My problem is when the text box is filled, after I click the second column, the text will disappear. If I replace the custom control with a simple text box, the result is the same. Here is the sample code: //Employee.cs using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace SimpleGridTest { public class Employee { public string Department { get; set; } public int ID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } } Mainwindow.xaml <Window x:Class="SimpleGridTest.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525"> <Grid> <DataGrid x:Name="grid" Grid.Row="1" Margin="5" AutoGenerateColumns="False" RowHeight="25" RowHeaderWidth="10" ItemsSource="{Binding}" CanUserAddRows="True" CanUserSortColumns="False"> <DataGrid.Columns> <DataGridTemplateColumn Header="Department" Width="150"> <DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <TextBox Text="{Binding Department}" /> </DataTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn> <DataGridTextColumn Header="ID" Binding="{Binding Path=ID}" Width="100"/> <DataGridTextColumn Header="Name" Binding="{Binding Path=Name}" Width="200"/> </DataGrid.Columns> </DataGrid> </Grid> </Window> MainWindow.xaml.cs using System.Windows; using System.Collections.ObjectModel; namespace SimpleGridTest { /// <summary> /// Interaction logic for MainWindow.xaml /// </summary> public partial class MainWindow : Window { private ObservableCollection<Employee> _employees = new ObservableCollection<Employee>(); public ObservableCollection<Employee> Employees { get { return _employees; } set { _employees = value; } } public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); grid.ItemsSource = Employees; } } } How can I fix this problem?
