    hi, i have an project with name called(dbservice layer) which is in path: d:\webservice\DBService. here i have an webservice which connects to DB and returns an object of an class. once i added an reference here i get an url:http://localhost:2371/Jobs.svc now i have another project name (UILayer) whic is in path: E:\School\UILayer i added an service reference here with url as http://localhost:2371/Jobs.svc but i get an messgae telling service is unable why is that happening. if both my webserivce layer and ui layer are in same project. then i able to use the webserive in the ui layer. and get the required output so i wanted to know is there any way we can acesss the webserive from one project to another project thanks in advance prince

  • What happens to the output to a log4net console appender in a Windows service?

    I have a console project that I have been working on. I added log4net to handle all my logging. In some places I have made use of the console appender. When I turn this application into a Windows Service should I just remove the console appender or what happens to that output? Does it just get lost? I would like to keep it if all possible because if I run it straight from the command prompt I would like to see the console output to help debug things.

    I'm about to design my Web service API, most of the functions of my API is basically very simular to my web application. Now the question is, should I create 1 single method and reuse them for both the web application and the web service api? (This seems to be the logical solution, however its very complicated; it's much easier to duplicate the method used by the web application, and keep both separate, ie one method for the web application and one method for the web service.)     Is there any way at all to create a "mock" entity type for use in a WCF Service Operation? We have some queries we do that we need to optimize by exposing as a ServiceOperation. The problem is in order to do so we would result in a very long list of primitative types... Ex SomeoneHelpMe(int time, string name, string address, string i, string purple, string foo, int stillGoing, int tooMany, etc...) And we really need to reduce this to SomeoneHelpedMe(CustomEntityNotMappedToAnything e) This would also help us when it comes time to write some complex queries since there is a 3 param limitation... I saw this will be possible in 4.0 using "complex types", but i am still in the 3.5SP1 world. Let me know if anyone needs more information.

  • VS2008 on Win7 64-Bit: Debugging a Windows Service

    Hi all, I'm trying to debug a Windows Service using VS2008 on Win7 64-Bit. The problem I'm having is that none of my breakpoints are being hit, regardless of which build configuration I choose: x86, x64 or AnyCPU. Using "Attach to Process" after the service has started, none of the breakpoints are hit - yet the IDE doesn't inform me that they won't be hit (by making the solid red circle and outline, for instance) - it simply seems to act as if the breakpoints weren't even there. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? Thanks /Richard.

    The catch is you have no SNMP access, not even public. The end vision is locate a PC in building easily even if PC's are moved around. The MAC address of the PC is known and the software would run as client on each desktop, reporting back which port the PC was plugged into. Well from a programmer perspective, my network skills are not the best. Yes I could use SNMP, download the MAC port table, load it into SQL, match it to the PC name. Seems alot of work. Lets say I ping a single point from the PC. Would the echo have some thing unique for each device on the same switch? All I need to identify some thing unique for each PC plugged into each port. If the PC was moved from location A to a different location then the unique response would change.

  • How can I limit access to a particular class to one caller at a time in an ASMX web service?

    I have a web service method in which I create a particular type of object, use it for a few seconds, and then dispose it. Because of problems arising from multiple threads creating and using instances of this class at the same time, I need to restrict the method so that only one caller at a time ever has one of these objects. To do this, I am creating a private static object: private static object _lock = new object(); ... and then inside the web service method I do this around the critical code: lock (_lock) { using (DangerousObject do = new DangerousObject()) { do.MakeABigMess(); do.CleanItUp(); } } I'm not sure this is working, though. Do I have this right? Will this code ensure that only one instance of DangerousObject is instantiated and in use at a time? Or does each caller get their own copy of _lock, rendering my code here laughable?

Ensure that the type corresponding to the XML is added to the known types collection of the service. If I comment out the GetBar operation from IFooBarService, it works fine. I know I'm missing an important concept here - just don't know quite what to look for. What is the proper way to construct my contract types, so that they can be properly deserialized?

  • Why would a WebService return nulls when the actual service returns data?

    I have a webservice (out of my control) that I have to talk to. I also have a packet-sniffer on the line, and (SURPRISE!!!) the developers of the webservice aren't lying. They are actually sending back all of the data that I requested. But the web-service code that is auto-generated from the WSDL file is giving me "null" as a value. I used their WSDL file to generate my Web Reference. I checked my data types with the datatypes that the WSDL file has declared. And I used the code as listed below to perform the calls: DT_MaterialMaster_LookupRequest req = new DT_MaterialMaster_LookupRequest(); req.MaterialNumber = "101*"; req.DocumentNo = ""; req.Description = "Pipe*"; req.Plant = "0000"; MI_MaterialMaster_Lookup_OBService srv = new MI_MaterialMaster_Lookup_OBService(); DT_MaterialMaster_Response resp = srv.MI_MaterialMaster_Lookup_OB(new DT_MaterialMaster_LookupRequest[] { req }); // Note that the response here is ALWAYS null!! Console.WriteLine(resp.Status); The resp object is an actual object. It was generated properly. However, the Status and MaterialData fields are always null.   • Disable proxy for entire application?

    Ever since upgrading to Visual Studio 2010, I'm running into an issue where the first web request of any type (WebRequest, WebClient, etc.) hangs for about 20 seconds before completing. Subsequent calls work quickly. I've narrowed down the problem to a proxy issue. If I manually disable proxy settings, I don't experience this delay: Dim wrq As WebRequest = WebRequest.Create(Url) wrq.Proxy = Nothing What's strange is that there are no proxy settings enabled on this machine in Internet Options. What I'm wondering is if there is a way to disable proxy settings for my entire project in one shot without explicitly disabling as above for every web object. The main reason I want to be able to do this is that I'm trying to use an API (http://code.google.com/p/google-api-for-dotnet/) which uses web requests, but does not provide any way to manually disable proxy settings. I have found some information suggesting that I need to add some proxy information to the app.config file, but I get errors building my program if I make an edits to that file. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    My web configuration looks as follows: <system.web> <compilation debug="false"/> <httpRuntime executionTimeout="90"/> </system.web> This is fine for most webservices but one webservice has a query that is running a very long (5 minutes) time and will be stopped before it has finished. Is it possible to set the runtime to 5 minutes for this webservice alone? I've thought about running the database query async (fire and forget) but it doesn't seem possible with sybase/oracle through ODBC.

    I am using Assembly.LoadFrom within a web service to load assemblies from a web site. but the problem is it is in the virutal directory and the server.mappath parses the url like \share\mydll.dll and loadform method failed. Is there anyway to reference dll from the remote location? I've tried passing the url (http:\localhost\downloadable\mydll.dll) and again it got "Could not load file or assembly 'http:\localhost\downloadable\mydll.dll' or one of its dependencies. HTTP download of assemblies has been disabled for this appdomain. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131048)"

  • Can't Add LINQ to SQL classes to projects in VS2010

    I just ran into something in Visual Studio 2010 RC that wasn't previously happening (like, yesterday). No software changes here, but I did run into some muck yesterday when compiling that required a reboot. I am unable to add LINQ to SQL classes to any project through the add dialog. I have created ASP.NET web sites, ASP.NET MVC projects - both of these as 'templated' and as 'empty' - and there appear to be no templates installed or available. I have made sure that the project targets the 4.0 Framework. I can easily add a new database and the ADO.NET entity framework templates are there. As a workaround I can copy a DBML file to my project, delete all tables and sprocs, update the connection string and use the leftover shell (the designer works fine like this), but it's a pain. Has anyone else had their templates drop? Figured out how to reinstall them?

  • What privileges do I need?

    I have a Windows service that isn't writing to the Application Event log under UserAccount. When the service is set to use AdminAccount, the Security log reports the following attributes: Under UserAccount, the only privilege reported is SeImpersonatePrivilege. Is there a security impersonation that I can implement to give the UserAccount the ability to write to the Application Event log? I would prefer to use the UserAccount for this service rather than the AdminAccount.

  • WCF Host as windows service faults

    I have this WCF service running as a window service. I have in my code that everytime it faults it will restart the service. Now I'm having the issue where the host faults, it tries to restarts, then faults again, but at some point it just stop the service. Wondering why it stop the service? Is this something handled by the OS that it detects the service has faulted a number of time within a certain time it will just stop the service because it faulted too many time ?
