  • Why does Microsoft Windows' performance appear to degrade over time?

    Windows XP/2k3 and earlier (can't attest to Vista, but suspect it's the same) all appear to become more sluggish over time as applications are installed and uninstalled. This is not a scientifically tested observation, but more of a learned-through-experience piece of wisdom. (I've always suspected the registry as being behind the issue.) Does anyone have any concrete evidence of this degradation occurring, or it just an invalid perception of mine?

    OS: Windows XP/Vista Qt version: 4.6.1 Using OpenSSL I need to watch the actual requests and responses that is going through the wire for QHttp requests and responses and in some cases need to interrupt the request. I tried with few of the http debuggers available in the market but they seem to work only for requests that are using the WinInet functions. Unfortunately, the openssldump utility is not present on windows platforms. Thank you.

  • Visual studio 2010 Errors out on starting "-832" is not a valid value for property "width"

    My Visual Studio 2010 was working fine this morning (I run in in XP sP3 under Paralles) I restarted the entire laptop and I started getting this error. I even uninstalled VS2010, deleted the Visual Studio 20010 directory on the My Documents area and reinstalled it, and it is still giving me that error every time I try to start it. I'm not sure if stackoverflow is the place to ask it, but I am at my wits end trying to get this running again (trying to avoid rebuilding the entire Virtual PC) Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Hello I used the command "net user" to add a new admin user to windows like that: net user myuser11 myuser11 /add net localgroup Administrators myuser11 /add the problem that after restart windows I only see the icon of the "myuser" and the default windows "Administrator" login icon disappeared !! the "Administrator" files still exists and I can login as "Administrator" after ctrl+alt+del but I need of course to display the "Administrator" icon in welcome screen how I fix that ? I use windows xp sp3 thanks

    Hi there, Is there a specific version of .Net that I can target that is bundled with all versions of Windows of XP SP2 and higher? We are trying to create a simple setup stub without having to resort to a low-level C/C++ app... currently something is cooked up in VB6, but there's a fair amount of low-level network code that I would much rather rewrite in .Net -- which would be trivial if only we could rely on the presence of a given version.

    On Windows XP, I ran "configure", and Qt says that I'm configured to use phonon, but I'm not sure how to set up my environment correctly in Qt Creator. According to the Qt documentation, I need to call: Set DXSDK_DIR=C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX SDK (February 2007) %DXSDK_DIR%\utilities\bin\dx_setenv.cmd C:\program files\Microsoft Platform SDK\setenv.cmd How do I do this in the Qt Creator IDE? The ip address of computer is 192.168.1.2 Now I have another computer ( computer_2) on the lan with ip address 192.168.1.3 I want to access the site on computer_1 from computer_2. comupter_2 can ping computer_1 (ping 192.168.1.2 works) But when I type http://192.168.1.2 in the browser of computer_2, nothing happens. I want to access the site on comupter_1 from computer_2 Please help.
