• A help system for a PHP web app

  Hi, As our new web app gets more complicated, so the need for help docs increases. I am not talking about documenting code, I am literally talking about application help. So myapp/help, or for example, enabling context help from a particular point in the app with a link such as myapp/help/users/create/ etc. Are there apps out there for doing this? For example, Wufoo use wordpress for http://wufoo.com/docs/ which I like (and understand wp, so its a nice solution), and Xero have a lovely ASPX http://help.xero.com/ interface. But I'm thinking there might be more dedicated implementations for what I'm looking for. We're on a linux, apache, postgresql, php stack, but a mysql supported installation is not the end of the world. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? It's a bit of a minefield when googling php + help + system.

• Installing JBoss Drools Eclipse IDE Plugin: JUnit dependency. How do I install it?

  I'm new to this whole JBoss/JUnit world. I'm trying to install the JBoss Drools plugin for the Eclipse IDE and I get this error. Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found. Software currently installed: JBoss Drools Core 5.0.1 (org.drools.eclipse.feature.feature.group 5.0.1) Missing requirement: Drools Eclipse Plug-in 5.0.1 (org.drools.eclipse 5.0.1) requires 'bundle org.eclipse.jdt.junit 0.0.0' but it could not be found Cannot satisfy dependency: From: JBoss Drools Core 5.0.1 (org.drools.eclipse.feature.feature.group 5.0.1) To: org.drools.eclipse [5.0.1] I downloaded junit and told Eclipse to add it to the default classpath, and also added it to my login CLASSPATH variable, but Eclipse still complains. What's the proper way to install the plugin?

I'd like to give PHP's SPL library a stab at this (btw, we are PHP 5.3, MySQL 5.1). • Embedded file system and sqlite

  I'm working on an embedded project that has no file system, and our kludge of a database has ballooned in functionality. It's now so inefficient, we can't stand it any longer. I'm trying to figure out if there's built-in support for a flat file system in SQLite. I've dug around http://sqlite.org for a while now, but haven't found anything specifically covering it. Has anyone found a supported implementation written in C? It seems like such a straightforward request, but I can't find anything written about it. We have plenty of memory available. In a perfect world, I'd like to just set aside a large portion of it, pass the FS a pointer, then let the FS/SQLite library just use what it wants.

• .NET Build Process

  All I am looking for the best free set of tools to be used in a MS Based build process. Checkout, Build, Package, Test, Deploy, etc. I know this question has been asked before but it was over 2 years ago, and in our world that is an eternity. I am looking to develop a pattern that is easily adapted to similar projects. Almost like a template/cookie cutter system. I am currently looking into using CruiseControl, Powershell, MSBuild suite of tools. If we choose to move to 4.0 will we have issues? Are there better alternatives? Limitations ? Or will these pretty much meet my needs. One piece that i am never happy with is the process of packaging. We actually have opted in the past to just use Visual Studio Deployment Projects but those are very* ancient and my fear is WIX will be too complicated for the people implementing it.

  There is a plethora of questions where people talk about common tricks, notably this one. However, I don't refer to commonly used shortcuts that a noob would find cool. I am talking about a seasoned unix user (be she/he a developer, admin, both, etc), who thinks (s)he knows something 99% of us never heard or dreamed about. Something that not only makes his/her work easier, but also is COOL and hackish. After all, vim resides in the most dark-corner-rich OS in the world, thus it should have intricacies that only a few privileged know about and want to share with us.

• Serialize .Net object to json, controlled using xml attributes

  I have a .Net object which I've been serializing to Xml and is decorated with Xml attributes. I would now like to serialize the same object to Json, preferably using the Newtonsoft Json.Net library. I'd like to go directly from the .Net object in memory to a Json string (without serializing to Xml first). I do not wish to add any Json attributes to the class, but instead would like for the Json serializer use the existing Xml attributes. • Best approach for GPGPU/CUDA/OpenCL in Java?

  General-purpose computing on graphics processing units (GPGPU) is a very attractive concept to harness the power of the GPU for any kind of computing. I'd love to use GPGPU for image processing, particles, and fast geometric operations. Right now, it seems the two contenders in this space are CUDA and OpenCL. I'd like to know: Is OpenCL usable yet from Java on Windows/Mac? What are the libraries ways to interface to OpenCL/CUDA? Is using JNA directly an option? Am I forgetting something? Any real-world experience/examples/war stories are appreciated.

• Django Error: NameError name 'current_datetime' is not defined

  I'm working through the book "The Definitive Guide to Django" and am stuck on a piece of code. This is the code in my settings.py: ROOT_URLCONF = 'mysite.urls' I have the following code in my urls.py from django.conf.urls.defaults import * from mysite.views import hello, my_homepage_view urlpatterns = patterns('', ('^hello/$', hello), ) urlpatterns = patterns('', ('^time/$', current_datetime), ) And the following is the code in my views.py file: from django.http import HttpResponse import datetime def hello(request): return HttpResponse("Hello World") def current_datetime(request): now = datetime.datetime.now() html = "<html><body>It is now %s.</body></html>" % now return HttpResponse(html) Yet, I get the following error when I test the code in the development server. • Facebook require_login not working

• link_to syntax with rails3 (link_to_remote) and basic javascript not working in a rails3 app?

  i am wondering if the basic link_to syntax is completely broken in current rails3 master or if i am doing some wrong syntax here. = link_to "name", nil, :onlick => "alert('Hello world!');" should actually produce an alert on click. very simple. does not work on my rails3 project! (also no error output!) any ideas? for the general link_to syntax i could not find an example where i could combine a link_to_remote with a confirmation, remote and html class (see my try below) = link_to "delete", {:action => "destroy", :remote => true, :method => :delete, :confirm => "#{a.title} wirklich L&ouml;schen?" }, :class => "trash" even the rails3 api does not help me here: http://rails3api.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html help!

• CLang error (objective C): value stored during initialization is never read

  Foo *oFoo = [[[Foo alloc] init] autorelease]; This is how I was taught to program in Objective C, yet the CLang error checker complains that the initial value was never read. But oFoo is an object with properties. oFoo itself has no single value. The property values are what matter. oFoo.PropertyA = 1; oFoo.PropertyB = @"Hello, World." Should I just ignore this? Is this worth fixing? What is the fix, seeing that "initial value" is meaningless in my context?

• Problem with importing an mdf created with SQL Server Express 2008 into SQL Server 2005

  The question is probably extremely easy to resolve, but I need to resolve it because I need to carry on with my project. I am using SQL Server Express 2008 at home, and I've been working on an ASP.NET MVC app that stores my DB in an mdf file in the project's folder. The problem is that the SQL Server in the Uni labs is SQL Server 2005, and when I try to open the mdf file with the VS Server Explorer,It says that the version of the mdf file is more than the server can accept. The only option that comes to my mind is exporting the DB as an sql file, just like I've done it thousand times with phpmyadmin. the thing is that the SQL Management Studio Express is not the most usable tool in the world, and for some strange reason all the articles I could find in Google were irrelevant. Please, help.

• Retrieving well formed HTML using Jericho HTML parser in Java

  Hello, I've looked at jTidy for converting a snipped of malformed/real-world HTML into well-formed HTML/XHTML. However, there's a bug in the latest version due to which I'm not able to use it. I'm looking at Jericho since it has a lot of positive reviews around the net. However, its not immediately obvious to me how one would go about implementing a method like: public String getValidHTML(String messedUpHTML) For instance, if it was passed <div>bar, it would return <div>bar</div> Any pointers would be helpful.   I'm not clear about this.... When having a gridview on the View, is the controller who has to set up the Data source, columns, etc? or I just have to expose the DataBinding stuff, fire it from the controller and let the html/codebehind on the view handle all the rendering and wiring up? • Delphi 2010 Datasnap - Design Query

  I am investigating moving a thick client SQL based Delphi application to Multi Tier thin clients, and have been looking at using Datasnap in Delphi 2010. I have worked through the White Paper written by Bob Swart and extended this further. My main question really is that I want to make the server side efficient in terms of connections and SQL Queries due to multiple queries being run and remaining open at the same time to interrogate data, can anyone point me in a direction for guidance on how to design a real world Datasnap Server application, as the demo's don't go into enough detail.   Hi pros, I am a student and I do freelance here and there when I have opportunity. I believe my strongest language is C#. I don't really know what is going on in real programming world, so I was wondering if WPF did take over WinForms? I know the differences between two and how two can be used simultaneously but, I just don't want to invest my time in learning dying technologies, I hope you understand. So, for windows desktop programming what would you recommend to master WinForms, WPF or maybe both? • Where can I find Object Model Documentation for Microsoft Expression Web Add-ins

  I am working on an add-in for Microsoft Expression Web. I have gotten enough information on the web to know that I have to add references to Microsoft.Expression.Interop.WebDesigner, Microsoft.Expression.Interop.WebDesignerPage, and Microsoft.Expression.Interop.WebDesigner. The problem is that there does not seem to be any official documentation on the classes within these dll-s. There is even a Microsoft Connect issue about the lack of documentation. I have been using the object browser in Visual Studio 2008 and Reflector but that is pretty thin soup. Does anyone know where there is some reasonable documentation. I am not looking for a sample "hello world" implementation. I want some more substance and depth.

• Am i passing values or adresses? [Java]

  Hello World, I am new to java and i was asking myself, if i have a class 'Example' and somewhere i make a: Example example1 = new Example(); and i add some stuff to it, lets say example1.setExampleBoolean(false); and now i make: Example example2 = example1; example2.setExampleBoolean(true); Did i say with Example example2 = example1 let example2 point to the same adress as example1? Because than i would have altered example1. In other words would, using something like: Boolean exampleBoolean = example1.getExampleBoolean(); exampleBoolean be true of false? Might be a stupid questions but for me it would change the way i'd handle problems in my programs :) Thanks in advance -Samuel

• Why is IoC / DI not common in Python?

  In Java IoC / DI is a very common practice which is extensively used in web applications, nearly all available frameworks and Java EE. On the other hand, there are also lots of big Python web applications, but beside of Zope (which I've heard should be really horrible to code) IoC doesn't seem to be very common in the Python world. (Please name some examples if you think that I'm wrong). There are of course several clones of popular Java IoC frameworks available for Python, springpython for example. But none of them seems to get used practically. At least, I've never stumpled upon a Django or sqlalchemy+<insert your favorite wsgi toolkit here> based web application which uses something like that. In my opinion IoC has reasonable advantages and would make it easy to replace the django-default-user-model for example, but extensive usage of interface classes and IoC in Python looks a bit odd and not »pythonic«. But maybe someone has a better explanation, why IoC isn't widely used in Python.

• Why isn't TextBox.Text in WPF animatable?

  Ok, I have just run into something that is really catching me off-guard. I was helping a fellow developer with a couple of unrelated questions and in his project he was animating text into some TextBlock(s). So, I went back to my desk and recreated the project (in order to answer his questions), but I accidentally used TextBox instead of TextBlock. My text wasn't animating at all! (A lot of help, I was!) Eventually, I figured out that his xaml was using TextBlock and mine was using TextBox. What is interesting, is that Blend wasn't creating key frames when I was using TextBox. So, I got it to work in Blend using TextBlock(s) and then modified the xaml by hand, converting the TextBlock(s) into TextBox(es). When I ran the project, I got the following error: InvalidOperationException: '(0)' Storyboard.TargetProperty path contains nonanimatable property 'Text'. Well, it seems as if Blend was smart enough to know that ... and not generate the key frames in the animation (it would just modify the value directly on the TextBox). +1 for Blend. So, the question became: why isn't TextBox.Text animatable? The usual answer is that the particular property you are animating isn't a DependencyProperty. But, this isn't the case, TextBox.Text is a DependencyProperty. So, now I am bewildered! Why can't you animate TextBox.Text? Let me include some xaml to illustrate the problem.
