• Xcode/Interface Builder Mac App Development

  Well i want from the drop down menu(Menu Item List) one item to be working as an link, to open an url/website in safari - thats it. When this is so simple, why no one come up with a clue here - I tried many different ways in Xcode, with Apple Xcode Samples... i think i need an AppDelegate.m, drag or link some parts, get actions... i failed to get it going somewhere - now i'm lost. Any advice/help/link/tip would be much appreciate to solve this "simple" issue... • Embedded Google Earth Plug-Ins no longer working

  I really hope someone can help me. I just noticed that none of my website's Google Earth embedded plug-in's work anymore (in Safari, Chrome or Firefox)  All you can see now is blank space and small text that says "Information is temporarily unavailable." I have no idea why they would no longer be working.  Nothing has changed whatsoever. • Javascript: parseInt() with trailing characters

  parseInt("7em", 10); returns 7 in all browsers I tested [*]. But can I rely on this? The reason I ask is, that I want to perform some calculations based on em, like /* elem1.style.top uses em units */ elem2.style.top = parseInt(elem1.style.top, 10) + 1 + "em"; I could do this with regular expressions, but parseInt is easier to use, and probably a bit faster. Or is there another solution (maybe using jQuery)? [*] Tested so far on: IE 6, IE 8, Safari 4, Firefox 3.6, Opera 10.5

• WebView with NSShadow slowdown

  I have a webview that shows some animated boxes, but it slows down and lags horribly when I put a drop shadow in the view. Without the shadow, the webview contents animate smoothly. I achieved a similar effect as safari/chrome when you do a elastic scroll with the touchpad. Looks nice! But doesnt run as smooth as in my inspirations. • Why is the image not showing in IE7?

  I have an image on this page in the blue bar area. It shows up fine in FF, Safari, IE8 & Chrome, but it does not show up in IE7. • Small line-height cross-browser difference

  So basicly my problem is that the line-heights in Firefox are a little bittle "larger" than in other browsers even though they're all fixed line-heights. For example, you have a block element which has a height from 100px and the line-height is set to 102px. Now, in Firefox the vertical alignment of text is perfect. But in the latest Chrome and Safari 4, the text stands 2px or so higher. Isn't there any way to fix this? Thanks.

  Hi, I am trying to parse an itunes affiliate xml link purely for practise, using NSXMLParser but the link will not parse. The normal itunes link I tried parsing: http://itunes.apple.com/%@/rss/%@/limit=50/genre=20/xml works perfectly with the NSXMLParser. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Thanks in advanced. • Any advantage to using SVG font in @font-face instead of TTF/EOT?

  I am investigating the usage of SVG fonts in @font-face declaration. So far, only Safari 4 and Opera 10 seem to support it (see an example for test [1]). Firefox 3.5 does not support it but there is a bug report [2] but no fix has been supplied yet (though there are patches). I also came across this discussion[3] which tangentially talks about advantages/disadvantages of SVG fonts. I am wondering, with @font-face support in major browsers, what is the advantage of using SVG font format in lieu of TTF/OTF/EOT formats? The only advantage I can glean from the discussion linked above was that you can add your own missing gylphs to fonts that do not support them yet.   Hi, I'm looking to create an extension for the leading browsers (firefox, safari and ie). Its rather simple, and I'm looking for the most efficient way to go about this. I need to get the hostname of the current site the user is on, and if it matches a certain parameter(eg, mysite.org), I'll need to append to the link some extra data and refresh to the new link. What is the simplest way to go about this? (I don't want to go in the direction of a bookmarklet - since this would require the user to click.   Hey guys, I was looking at the Twitter for iPhone app and was puzzled. First of all, there are normal words looking like links inside. Second, when I touch those link-like words, the text view (or maybe web view) jumps to the corresponding part below (yes, it doesn't open Safari, it just jumps to the text within that text/web view) Now I want to implement the same effects. I should base my implementation on what? UITextView or UIWebView? How to make normal words look like links? How to make those smooth jumps within such a text/web views? Thanks in advance.

  I am using a "shake" function from github - and it has a detection that is browser-based javascript. //feature detect this.hasDeviceMotion = 'ondevicemotion' in window; This though yields true even on Chrome on OS X. It feels strange, since I am not willing to shake my monitor on my desktop. Safari on OS X gives me "false" in return when testing. I have searched but not been able to find out why Chrome decided to take this path. It bugs me. Is there a better way to make this detection? Not all "mobile devices" has shake as well.. or does not let the browser have that capability, as it does not seem to work in windows phones.

My thought is that FF is just stripping out what it doesn't understand while the others are not. Has anyone else seen this and/or getting different results from the test script?

  I need to use: JSON.stringify() which should be supported by chrome, safari, and FF (I think). I think IE8 also has support for the JSON object. I think IE7 and 6 do not, so I'm doing this: <!--[if lt IE 8]> <script src="http://www.json.org/json2.js"></script> <![endif]--> so, I think this will import the external javascript only if IE6 & 7. • Apache routing vhosts to /var/www

  One user at my site has reported that he reaches the content at /var/www when browsing to any of the vhosts at my server. As far as I’m aware, my Apache server does not contain a document root that references this folder. On top of that, this user seems to be the only one experiencing the issue. According to his ISP, the issue isn’t caused by them, yet, on his mobile connection, he can access the site. When browsing to my server’s IP, he also receives the correct content from the default vhost. What could be the possible causes of this issue and how can I get it to stop? I’ve explored pretty much every option I could think of.

• Getting HTMLUnknownElement with jQuery.find() and an XML Document

  I'm attempting to load up an XML document (specifically an RSS feed) via an Ajax request, parse it, and insert some information based on said feed into my page. The code works fine in Firefox, Opera, Chrome, and Safari, but not IE7. Go figure. After doing some initial debugging, I've found that the XML string is being retrieved via the request, and the specific node type I'm getting when trying to parse nodes out of the document is HTMLUnknownElement. Here's the relevant code: $.get('feed.php', function(oXmlDoc) { var titles = $(oXmlDoc).find('title'); var dates = $(oXmlDoc).find('pubDate'); for(var i = 0; i < 5; i++) { parseNodes(titles[i].firstChild.nodeValue, dates[i].firstChild.nodeValue)); } }); The parseNodes function is never actually being hit because IE cannot access firstChild and, consequently, nodeValue. • Graphical Submit button doesn't 'post' in Firefox or IE

It does not work on IE or FireFox, but it works just fine in Safari. Here's the problem. • which mail server is better suited for high volume? [closed]

  I'm planning out a project (web/mobile app) that would require a mail server that could handle hundreds of thousands connections per hour (both IMAP/POP and SMTP) and has the ability to interface with PHP (or python or whatever) to dynamically create, delete and check for mailboxes? This is not for spam stuff, I just need my app to generate random mailboxes (and static/permanent ones too) to receive mail and process it for items listed on my service. The little research I've done so far has turned up courier, dovecot, cyrus and haraka. I think the ability to scale and/or load balance (I'm new to these terms, pardon me) would also be a requirement. Any ideas?

  This might seem like a really dumb question, but I am writing an application and I have come across where my mouse-over, mouse-click and mouse-hover need different events bound to them. Now on Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. It all works as expected. However, on my iPhone the actions will not trigger. Now my question is are their any specific ways I can have the Mouse-Over essentially be fired when I hold my finger down and trigger an event? An example where this doesn't work is right on this website when you hover over a comment it is supposed to display the +1 or flag icon. I am using jquery.

  I thought by placing these two lines that it would prevent the page from being cached but this is not the case between the head tags: <meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache" /> <meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache" /> As already mentioned this is on server that doesn't support PHP (or any server side language, well, that's not true, it has cgi-bin folder that supports perl scripts but I don't know perl and have no time to engage in it.) What else could I do to prevent the page from caching? It caches on Firefox and IE (and not so much in Chrome or Safari.)

Firefox's profiler says I'm spending the most time in this function and I'm curious as to why that is. Is there a way to get the em size in javascript without doing all this work? I would like to recalculate the size on resize incase the user has changed it.

• AJAX Problem - No response text in FireFox, but ok in IE

  Hi, I am making a simple AJAX call to an external site. It works ok in IE, but in Firefox, not response text is returned. I think it might have something to do with the response being "chunked", but I'm not sure. Any ideas?
