Store and retrieve images from file system instead of database

Hi I need a place to store images. My first thought was to use the database, but many seems to recommend using the filesystem. This seems to fit my case, but how do I implement it? The filenames need to be unique, how to do that. Should I use a guid? How to retrieve the files, should I go directly to the database using the filename, make a aspx page and passing either filename or primary key as a querystring and then read the file. What about client side caching, is that enabled when using a page like image.aspx?id=123 ? How do I delete the files, when the associated record is deleted? I guess there are many other things that I still haven't thought about. Links, samples and guidelines are very welcome!

Django exclude(**kwargs) help

Hey guys/gals! I had a question for you, something that I can't seem to find the solution for... Basically, I have a model called Environment, and I am passing all of them to a view, and there are particular environments that I would like to exclude. Now, I know there is a exclude function on a queryset, but I can't seem to figure out how to use it for multiple options... For example, I tried this but it didn't work: kwargs = {"name": "env1", "name": "env2"} envs = Environment.objects.exclude( kwards ) But the only thing that it will exclude is the last "name" value in the list of kwargs. I understand why it does that now, but I still can't seem to exclude multiple objects with one command. Any help is much appreciated! Shawn

Image cropping in PHP is producing blank result

I'm simply trying to crop a JPEG image (no scaling) using PHP. Here is my function, along with the inputs. function cropPicture($imageLoc, $width, $height, $x1, $y1) { $newImage = imagecreatetruecolor($width, $height); $source = imagecreatefromjpeg($imageLoc); imagecopyresampled($newImage,$source,0,0,$x1,$y1,$width,$height,$width,$height); imagejpeg($newImage,$imageLoc,90); } When I call it as follows--cropPicture('image.jpg', 300, 300, 0, 0)--the function completes properly, but I'm left with a black image that is 300x300 px (in other words, a blank canvas). Am I passing in the wrong arguments? The image exists and is writeable.

MVVM/ViewModels and handling Authorization

Hey guys Just wondering how how people handle Authorization when using MVVM and/or View Models. If I wasn't using VM's I would be passing back the Model and it would have a property which I could check if a user can edit a given object/property but when using MVVM I am disconnecting myself from the business object... and thus doen't know what the security should be any more. Is this a case where the mapper should be aware of the Authorization that is in place and don't copy across the data if the Authorization check fails. If this was the case I am guessing that the mapper would have to see some properties on the VM to let the interface know which fields are missing data because of the Authorization failure. If this does occur within the mapper, how does this fit in with things like AutoMapper, etc. Cheers Anthony

Is it possible to override a function based on the number of parameters that you are passing into it? For instance: function abc(name) { document.write ('My name is' + name); } function abc(name,friend) { document.write ('My name is' + name + 'and my best friend\'s name is' + friend); } So in the HTML if I just called abc(george) it would use the first version of the function, but if I called abc(george,john) it would use the second version. There may be other ways to accomplish the example I used, but I'm just wondering if the concept is sound in javascript.

Can I reference its dlls to use it on a machine with only ORACLE 9/10 installed? In a related manner, do I have to execute the script in order to its identifiers to be analyzed?

I am using FogBugz free hosting to manage my project bugs, I also have several customers I create custom software for, been using FogBugz to keep everything organized. Question I have is, there are times where they send me an email with a bug, so I report it in my system and they create it as well, instead of having 2 cases of same bug, would like to merge or link them together, rather not just delete the duplicate. Is there a way to link them together, maybe like a cross reference or even merge them together?

I'm trying to use Zend_ProgressBar in my project (made using MVC in Zend Framework). Unfortunately, I cannot find any full example on how to use it. Zend Programmer's Reference Guide has only some code snippets, which are not enough for me. Basically, I don't know how incorporate Zend_ProgressBar with some action in a controller and associated views. socket connection failed, telnet OK

my problem is that I can't connect two comps through socket (windows xp and windows7) although the server created with socket is listening and I can telnet it. It receives then information and does what should be done, but if I run the corresponding socket client I get error 10061. I'm looking for a JavaScript library that will allow me to query complex JSON objects using a LINQ-like syntax. A quick search found a couple of promising options that look they might offer what I need: LINQ to JavaScript and jLinq Does any one have any experience using them? What are some pros and cons? Is the performance comparable? Does the function-passing syntax of LINQ to JavaScript offer any hidden benefits (I personally find the syntax of jLinq more appealing on first glance)? What have you found lacking in either project? Did you ever try contacting the authors? How responsive were they? What project is more widely used?

ConfigurationManager.AppSettings is empty?

Hello All, I have a VS2008 ASP.NET Web Service Application running on the local IIS of my XP machine. A separate project in the same solution uses test methods to invoke the WS calls, and run their processes. When I added a web reference to the WS App, VS2008 created a Settings.settings file in the Properties folder to store the address of the web reference. This process also created a new section in the Web.config file called applicationSettings to store the values from Settings.settings When my application attempts to retrieve configuration values from the appSettings section of the Web.config file, via ConfigurationManager.AppSettings[key], all values are null and AppSettings.AllKeys.Length is always zero. I even reverted the Web.config file to before the web reference was added, and made sure it was exactly the same as a system-generated web.config file for a new project that works fine. After comparing the reverted Web.config and a new Web.config, I addded one simple value in the appSettings section, and still no luck with ConfigurationManager.AppSettings[key]. Algorithm shortest path between all points

Hi, suppose I have 10 points. I know the distance between each point. I need to find the shortest possible route passing trough all points. I have tried a couple of algorithms (Dijkstra, Floyd Warshall,...) and the all give me the shortest path between start and end, but they don't make a route with all points on it. Permutations work fine, but they are to resource expensive. What algorithms can you advise me to look into for this problem? It gets published alright but when I try to drill down it throws an error "Data Refresh failed" etc.The data source and the sharpoint site are on the same machine(running windows server 2008) and we have windows authentication running. From what I have been able to find on the internet there is a problem with passing the windows authentication credentials to the database etc.But I have not been able to find the exact way to sort out these problem. It's an iterative computation, so there's a lot of rendering to a texture, then rendering that texture to another texture, then rendering the second texture back to the first texture and so on, passing the texture through a shader each time. My question is: is it better to have a separate FBO for each texture I want to render into, or should I rather have one FBO and bind the target texture using glFramebufferTexture2D each time I want to change render target? My platform is OpenGL ES 2.0 on the iPhone.

Silverlight Listbox firing MouseRightButtonDown, but not MouseLeftButtonDown

I have this problem in a bigger Project...... so I set up a 'Testpoject' as Proof of Concept: New Silverlight-Application Add Listbox Fill listbox with a few Checkboxes Register listBox1_MouseLeftButtonDown register listBox1_MouseRightButtonDown You will see, that the listBox1_MouseLeftButtonDown won't fire under any circumstances.... listBox1_MouseRightButtonDown however fires just fine. I tried using a custom Class deriving from ListBox and overriding, assuming something in the ListBox Class was setting e.Handled = false, but this did not change the behaviour, either. Any Ideas on why this happens and how to fix? (This problem also stops the 'parent'-control from receiving the Click-Event... so the Event-passing is broke)
