  • Wired Network (eth0) disappears on a Lenovo Z570

    I upgraded from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 yesterday. I am running a BSNL Broadband DSL conenction. The wired network suddenly dissapears and the computer stops detecting the ethernet card after sometime. However, after rebooting, it again becomes alright.     JDK 8u20 has been released and is available from the Java Downloads page. See the JDK 8u20 Update Release Notes for details. Highlights for this release: The Medium security level has been removed. Now only High and Very High levels are available. Applets that do not conform with the latest security practices can still be authorized to run by adding the sites that host them to the Exception Site List. See Security for more information. The javafxpackager tool has been renamed to javapackager, and supports both Java and JavaFX applications. The -B option has been added to the javapackager deploy command to enable arguments to be passed to the bundlers that are used to create self-contained applications. See javapackager for Windows or Linux and OS X for information. The <fx:bundleArgument> helper parameter argument has been added to enable arguments to be passed to the bundlers when using ant tasks. See JavaFX Ant Task Reference for more information. A new attribute is available for JAR file manifests.   • Help deciding on an area of study for a PhD [closed]

    I am going to start a PhD in about 1 year. My undergraduate degree is in computer science and my master's is in artificial intelligence. I want to get ideas about what's going to be hot in say 5 years i.e. what could I spend 3-4 years studying to potentially have expertise that will be applicable to industry and the computing world ? Impossible to answer factually but some ideas and thoughts would be great. I have narrowed my ideas down to AI (yes, even more AI) and information security. AI seems to becoming popular again but security is always a going to be useful. From a career point of view, if I were to stay working in software development then this might actually be the best move but I've always wanted to do a PhD! Many thanks :).

  • update manager has killed wifi after i finally got it working [closed]

    HI i had just got my wifi to work properly in 12.04 and I got a pop up from update manager saying there was 100's of updates I needed to install so i installed them it then said I needed to reboot which I did but now my wifi isn't working I go add a new connection and I have no wifi option just Ethernet also the pci card is showing no signs of life (the green light is not light) but when i go in to terminal and type lspci it is showing my wifi card in the list whats gone wrong and how do i fix it???
