  • Multiple WAN interfaces in same subnet on Sonicwall NSA220?

    (eta salutation, which keeps getting eaten.) Hi, all. I see a bunch of related questions, so I'm hesitant to ask, but: I have a situation where I have a Sonicwall NSA220 serving as firewall/router for two internal subnets to two external WAN connections. In some locations this is two separate ISPs. In others, it's the same ISP but with multiple circuits. The problem is that one ISP has been unable to provide unique subnets for each WAN interface. Is there any possibility that I might be able to bond the two WAN interfaces into a single virtual interface, and then use source-routing to get internal subnets communicating out the appropriate physical interface? Or even just use traffic-shaping to give each internal network appropriate shared bandwidth? I haven't found anything in the docs, but it seemed like it might be worth asking.     We are trying to set up some virtual Fibre Channel HBA's in Solaris. This seems to be possible with NPIV. Creating NPIV's in a Solaris global zone works fine, but passing that NPIV to a zone didn't work at all. We tried to pass the NPIV as following: # zonecfg -z zone1 'info' zonename: studentz1 [...] device: match: /devices/pci@0,0/pci8086,25f9@6/pci8086,350c@0,3/pci1077,140@4/fp@1,0:devctl allow-partition not specified allow-raw-io not specified Wat we want to do is, set up an environment for SAN exercises. We don't have a physical host per student, so we try to virtualise that in some way (Solaris zones or VMware). It should be possible to display the WWN of the virtual HBA and mount the storage presented by the disk subsystem. Any ideas to pass the NPIV to a solaris zone or to virtualise this with vmware?

    My machine has a Mobile Intel® GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics chipset. The machine is currently running 64 bit windows 7 premium with 3GB of ram (1x1gb and 1x2gb). I note that the Mobile Intel® GMA 4500MHD shares the physical memory to process the graphics. now, the total available graphics memory can be up to 1,340 MB with a 32-bit operating system and 3 GB system memory or 1,759 MB with a 64-bit operating system and 4 GB system memory. I am considering investing in a 4GB stick to replace the 1gb stick bringing the total up to 6gb, mainly for an increase in graphics processing ability. Can anyone let me know what sort of power (if any over the 4gb) I could expect by upgrading to 6GB?

    I am faced with a Windows hardware/software problem left over from another person. It's on me to resolve. It's a mission critical setup. The situation is: I've got a physical server machine with: -Disk C:\ (one disk) containing a basic install of Windows Server 2008 R2, formerly Win Vista Pro, now gone. -Disk D:\ (software Raid) containing a VirtualBox disk image of a configured Windows Server 2008 R2 running SQL Server R2 among others. What shall I do now? Migrate all the stuff from the configured VM to the basic but natively installed C:\ Windows Server 2008 R2 (with the possibility of breaking stuff)? Or, Setting up the machine to "natively boot" the VM with the help of bcdedit.exe (something I've read about, what I've never done, what I don't know of if it works, if it hits performance, or if it is stable for production) For me, being old skool, I am in the process of de-virtualising everything (option 1). But I'd be happy if someone suggests I am ok to go down the "natively boot" route.

    I'm developing an iPhone application. I have an EXC_BAD_ACCESS that occurs only in the release target; when I build the debug target the exception does not occur. However, when I set the NSZombieEnabled environment variable to YES, I still get the EXC_BAD_ACCESS with no further information. Is it even possible for NSZombieEnabled to work when executing the release target? I don't see why not, since gdb is running in both cases...

    Has anybody tried converting Luabind to C#? Is such a thing even possible? I've got an application that I want to convert so that it can run in a completely managed environment, but most of the game logic relies upon Lua scripts, and the application uses Luabind to manage the back-and-forth. I'm not familiar enough with Lua or Luabind to know what's involved. Am I on a fool's errand here?

    Hi, I have a solaris 9 container built from a physical server using flarcreate. Everything seems fine, except when trying to trying to run any "java -server" process it fails with the following error This is on a Sunfire T1000 machine running Solaris 10 10/09 s10s_u8wos_08a SPARC Running jdk1.5.0_15 Exception java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: requested -4 bytes for size_t in /BUILD_AREA/jdk1.5.0_15/hotspot/src/os/solaris/vm/os_solaris.cpp. Out of swap space? As far as I can tell I'm not actually out of swap space. Running java in client mode works without a problem. Googles only suggestion is related to x86. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Options for installing software on Amazon EC2 Windows instances

    I've been running Linux servers on Amazon EC2 for a while now; the experience has been great. I've recently needed to bring up a Windows server to run some Windows-only software that our product needs to use, and am running into a problem figuring out how to install the software, which is only available on DVD. With Linux I can just install packages from a Web-based repository and take advantage of EC2's fast network throughput, but so far on the Windows instance I've had to upload my ISO images to EC2 and mount them from the Windows EC2 instance. For some reason I'm getting really slow upload speeds to EC2, even though the regular upload speed from our office is pretty good (around 7Mbps). I've also tried mounting the DVD drive on my machine as a local drive on the EC2 instance via Remote Desktop, and then running the software install from the local drive, but I run into the same slow upload speed issue. Does anyone have a better way to install software from physical media onto an EC2 instance ?

    Hi What is the recommended way to transfer files via FTP and manage (rename, move, delete) files in an FTP server programmatically in a Windows Scripting Host script file (JavaScript/VBScript)? Preferably without requiring 3rd party ActiveX add-ons since these "extra" software will need to go through an approval process that will take a very long time, even for free (as in beer) and/or open source components.     There's a fairly complex application than runs on two VMs (on Xen). Both VMs run CentOS 6.2 with the exact same packages and configuration for every application running (minus networking which is different). SELinux is disabled on both. On machine A the application builds perfectly. On machine B when running some tests we get: ruby[2010] trap invalid opcode ip:7ff9d2944c30 sp:7fff9797e0f8 error:0 in ld-2.12.so[7ff9d2930000+20000] Digging a bit more to find out where the machines differ, machine A has: model name : Six-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 2423 HE and machine B: model name : AMD Opteron(TM) Processor 6272 I've tried booting machine B with cpuid_mask_cpu=fam_10_rev_c in grub but it did not help either. So any advice as to how to deal with this, or how to approach the hosting provider so as to run this VM on another physical machine will be greatly appreciated.

But most programs store their settings in the sub-folder "anwendungsdaten" (German, application data). Is there a way to get the direct path to this folder?   • acessing a subnetwork from within a vm

    I have a pc running windows 7. I have vmwareplayer running RHEL5 I have 1 physical ethernet connection. this ethernet connection is wired to a hub. there is another device on that hub that needs to be in a certain subnetwork (192.168.0.xxx)(lets call him device X) but the general network is 192.168.1.xxx How can I configure the network adapters so that I can ping device X from RHEL5 in the vm. Originally I could ping google from both windows and rhel (I was in the .1 network) but not device X since he is on a different subnetwork address. Now that I have put it on the .0 I can ping device X from windows but not from rhel5 and cannot access the web. I did this by manually setting the IP address.
