  • What free tools or strategies can help debug a multi-threading corruption bug?

    - by WilliamKF
I have a client server application with multi-threading. The server side is failing with a std::list getting corrupted resulting in a SEGV. I suspect that there is some kind of cross thread timing issue going on where the two threads are updating the std::list at the same time and causing it to be corrupted. Please suggest free tools to track this down or strategies that might be helpful.

  • Windows: How to make programs think they're not running in a terminal server session?

    - by sinni800
I am using the program "SoftXPand 2011 Duo" by Miniframe on my Windows 7 PC. It makes two workstations out of one computer. It uses the terminal services built into Windows to create the additional session. I use two screens, two keyboards and two mice to create this "illusion" of two computers. It works quite well and I can even play two different 3D games on the two screens attached to this single machine (using a Radeon HD5770 and a Core i5 2500k with 8 Gbytes RAM). There are a few downsides to this. I just found about one that is hidden on the first look. The sessions you are in (even on the first workstation) will identify as a terminal server session! Now some programs will run with limited effects (graphical), and some won't run at all. This also resulted in some games not running at all. They just say "Cannot be run in a terminal server session" and exit. I have already proven that top modern games (DirectX 10, 11) run just as good as on the same machine without SoftXPand, so this is a pretty artificial limitation! So, can I somehow hack my current session so it doesn't look like a terminal server session anymore? I. E. #include <windows.h> #pragma comment(lib, "user32.lib") BOOL IsRemoteSession(void) { return GetSystemMetrics( SM_REMOTESESSION ); } Will return FALSE? (Not a programming question! Just an example how programs detect if they're in a terminal server session!)

  • Is my fragment usage correct, seems to be slow on adnroid

    - by Robertoq
    My app structure is that i have a menu with 5 menu-point om the left side, and the content on the right side. MainActivity.xml <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" > <fragment android:id="@+id/fragmentMenu" android:name="com.example.FragmentMenu" android:layout_width="@dimen/MenuWidth" android:layout_height="match_parent" /> <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/content" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android_layout_toRightOf="@+id/fragmentMenu" android:orientation="vertical"/> </RelativeLayout> MainActivity.java public class FragmentActivityMain extends FragmentActivity { @Override protected void onCreate(final Bundle arg0) { super.onCreate(arg0); setContentView(R.layout.fragment_activity_main); FragmentManager fm = getSupportFragmentManager(); FragmentMenu fragmentMenu = (FragmentMenu) fm.findFragmentById(R.id.fragmentMenu); fragmentMenu.init(); } } And certainly I have a FragmenMenu class, public class FragmentMenu extends ListFragment { @Override public View onCreateView(final LayoutInflater inflater, final ViewGroup container, final Bundle savedInstanceState) { View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_menu, container, false); return view; } public init() { FragmentManager fm = getFragmentManager(); FragmentTransaction ft = fm.beginTransaction(); FragmentNowListView lw = new FragmentCarListView(); ft.add(R.id.content, lw); ft.commit(); } } The FragmentCarList is a simple list, now with static test data, only five items in a List My Problem: Slow. I tested the app on my phone (Galaxy S3) and I see white screen when app starting, around 0,5 second and this is the log: 10-29 11:43:44.093: D/dalvikvm(29710): GC_CONCURRENT freed 267K, 5% free 13903K/14535K, paused 10ms+2ms 10-29 11:43:44.133: D/dalvikvm(29710): GC_FOR_ALLOC freed 215K, 6% free 13896K/14663K, paused 12ms 10-29 11:43:44.233: D/dalvikvm(29710): GC_FOR_ALLOC freed 262K, 6% free 13901K/14663K, paused 12ms 10-29 11:43:44.258: D/dalvikvm(29710): GC_FOR_ALLOC freed 212K, 6% free 13897K/14663K, paused 13ms 10-29 11:43:44.278: D/dalvikvm(29710): GC_FOR_ALLOC freed 208K, 6% free 13897K/14663K, paused 12ms 10-29 11:43:44.328: D/dalvikvm(29710): GC_FOR_ALLOC freed 131K, 4% free 14098K/14663K, paused 12ms 10-29 11:43:44.398: D/dalvikvm(29710): GC_CONCURRENT freed 20K, 3% free 14559K/14919K, paused 1ms+4ms And when I tested on Xperia Ray, the whit screen appear longer time.   • Programmatically log on to a site

    - by Shaihi
I am not sure if this fits better on StackOverflow, but here goes: I want to programmatically log on to: http://wrds-web.wharton.upenn.edu/wrds/index.cfm?true I tried capturing the log on url using fiddler2 and HttpFox, but to no avail. Is this a server side script that I cannot capture? If so how can I do the log on?

  • Facebook charset detection mechanism?

    - by Void
Today, I have looked into HTML code of facebook.com, and found something like this: <input type="hidden" value="€,´,€,´,?,?,?" name="charset_test"/> It's repeated two times inside the <form>...</form>. Any idea what this code might be useful for - some kind of server-side client charset detection? As far as I know, browser charset is being transmitted in HTTP request anyway (an "Accept-Charset" header).

  • Does btrfs balance also defragment files?

    - by pauldoo
When I run btrfs filesystem balance, does this implicitly defragment files? I could imagine that balance simply reallocates each file extent separately, preserving the existing fragmentation. There is an FAQ entry, 'What does "balance" do?', which is unclear on this point: btrfs filesystem balance is an operation which simply takes all of the data and metadata on the filesystem, and re-writes it in a different place on the disks, passing it through the allocator algorithm on the way. It was originally designed for multi-device filesystems, to spread data more evenly across the devices (i.e. to "balance" their usage). This is particularly useful when adding new devices to a nearly-full filesystem. Due to the way that balance works, it also has some useful side-effects: If there is a lot of allocated but unused data or metadata chunks, a balance may reclaim some of that allocated space. This is the main reason for running a balance on a single-device filesystem. On a filesystem with damaged replication (e.g. a RAID-1 FS with a dead and removed disk), it will force the FS to rebuild the missing copy of the data on one of the currently active devices, restoring the RAID-1 capability of the filesystem.

  • KVO on the "windows" value of UIApplication?

    - by Ariel Malka
The following is not working: [[UIApplication sharedApplication] addObserver:self forKeyPath:@"windows" options:(NSKeyValueObservingOptionNew|NSKeyValueObservingOptionOld) context:NULL]; Together with that, on the Observer side: - (void) observeValueForKeyPath:(NSString *)keyPath ofObject:(id)object change:(NSDictionary *)change context:(void *)context { NSLog(@"never reached!"); } Any clues? N.B. My uber-goal is to get a notification when a (system-generated) UIAlertView is shown.

  • How has RIA technology evolved and what technology stack currently rules this domain?

    - by Rachel
I am new to RIA and have not been actively involved with this technology in my projects as we using server-side Java, but I want to gain some experience with RIA. My questions are: How has RIA technology evolved and in your opinion? What technology stack currently rules this domain? What are the recommended resources for learning RIA? In general what is the suggested approach for getting started on the RIA journey?

  • Windows 7 Aero theme's "greyed out" - no found fix

    - by Robsta
Brand new machine that was working fine then randomly it changed the theme when I booted into a sort of "basic" theme (white task bar, no see through windows etc) I've done and attempted many fixes and I still don't understand why it doesn't work. I've tried these two solutions: "How to enable Windows 7 Aero Theme" and "Windows 7 Aero Themes Greyed out" These solutions included registy changes, stopping/starting services, and force starting the aero theme. The closest I got seems to be when I went into: Control panel (category view) Find and fix problems (System and Security) Display Aero Desktop Effects I follow through the wizard and let it do its thing and then I get an error window that pops up: Personalization - "This theme can't be applied to the desktop. Try clicking a diffrent theme." That's what I get from the wizard. What can I do? My drivers are all up to date, there are no viruses on the computer, directx is installed and updated, and the registry is all correct. EDIT: When I boot the computer, I get a notification stating that windows failed to communicate with the windows desktop services.

  • Apache HTTPd FollowSymLinks path permission

    - by apast
Hi, I'm configuring my development environment with a basic Apache HTTPd configuration. But, to avoid a often problem, I want to map my test URL to my development folder. I'm using Ubuntu. My development path is located under the following example path: /home/myusername/myworkspace/hptargetpath/src/pages Considering the following symbolic link mapping: #ls -l /opt/share/www/mydevelopmentrootpath: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 77 2011-02-13 18:53 /opt/share/www/mydevelopmentrootpath -> /home/myusername/myworkspace/hptargetpath/src/pages With this folder mapping, I configured Apache HTTPd with the following configuration: <VirtualHost *:*> ServerName local.server.com ServerAdmin [email protected] DirectoryIndex index.html DocumentRoot /opt/share/www/mydevelopmentrootpath <Directory /opt/share/www/mydevelopmentrootpath/ > Options +Indexes Options +FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> But, I'm receiving a 403 Forbidden error when I want to access index.html under the address http://local.server.com/index.html. 403 Forbidden You don't have permission to access /index.html on this server. On httpd debug log, I checked the following message: [Sun Feb 13 19:34:47 2011] [error] [client 127.0.1.1] Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible: /opt/share/www/mydevelopmentrootpath I'm thinking that this problem is been generated by some path permission. It's not a direct permission to directory, but some intermediate directory in the path. There's a directive on httpd core Options: SymLinksIfOwnerMatch The server will only follow symbolic links for which the target file or directory is owned by the same user id as the link. But, I tested it without effects. Somebody may help me? I think that it's a trivial configuration on development environment. Best regards, And Past

  • Same netmask or /32 for secondary IP on Linux

    - by derobert
There appear to be (at least) two ways to add a secondary IP address to an interface on Linux. By secondary, I mean that it'll accept traffic to the IP address, and responses to connections made to that IP will use it as a source, but any traffic the box originates (e.g., an outgoing TCP connection) will not use the secondary address. Both ways start with adding the primary address, e.g., ip addr add 172.16.8.10/24 dev lan. Then I can add the secondary address with either a netmask of /24 (matching the primary) or /32. If I add it with a /24, it gets flagged secondary, so will not be used as the source of outgoing packets, but that leaves a risk of the two addresses being added in the wrong order by mistake. If I add it with /32, wrong order can't happen, but it doesn't get flagged as secondary, and I'm not sure what the bad effects of that may be. So, I'm wondering, which approach is least likely to break? (If it matters, the main service on this machine is MySQL, but it also runs NFSv3. I'm adding a second machine as a warm standby, and hope to switch between them by changing which owns the secondary IP.)

  • CompareValidator issue on Firefox

    - by costin
Hi, I need to validate a date in a web forms application. For this I use a CompareValidator with Operator="DataTypeCheck" Type="Date" The problem is that this Validator doesn't work properly on Firefox with 2 digit years. ( javascript error: m[2] is undefined) With a 4 digits year it's working properly. This problem is described also here: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/355573/comparevalidator-client-side-bug-two-digit-year-in-mozilla-based-browsers-throws-js-exception Does anyone know a nice workaround for this? Thanks

  • Django and Drupal

    - by webzide
Dear Experts, Since Django is a web development framework and Django is a CMS. Is it possible to use them both together instead of a preferred database on Django like apache? Maybe that question isn't clear enough. Is it possible to use Django and Drupal simultaneously on the server side to provide a better web development solution?

  • Is there a JQuery DOM manipulator/CSS selector equivalent class in PHP?

    - by DKinzer
I know that I can use DOMDocument and DOMXPath to manipulate XML files. But, I really love JQuery, and it would be great if there was something more like JQuery in the PHP world that I could use for sever side DOM manipulation. NOTE: I'm only interested here in how JQuery Selects and Manipulates the DOM, not all the other parts of JQuerry (I guess you can say just the Pop and the Sizzle parts).
