  • What is the most effective way to create BigInteger instance from int value?

    I have a method (in 3rd-party library) with BigInteger parameter: public void setValue (BigInteger value) { ... } I don't need 'all its power', I only need to work with integers. So, how can I pass integers to this method? My solution is to get string value from int value and then create BigInteger from string: int i = 123; setValue (new BigInteger ("" + i)); Are there any other (recommended) ways to do that?

  • building objects from xml file at runtime and intializing, in one pass?

    I have to parse the XML file and build objects representation based on that, now once I get all these data I create entries in various database for these data objects. I have to do second pass over that for value as in the first pass all I could do is build the assets in various databases. and in second pass I get the values for all the data and put it in the database. I have a feeling that this can be done in a single pass but I just want to see what are your opinions. As I am just a student who started with professional work, experienced ppl please help. Can someone who have ideas or done similar work, please provide some light on the topic so that I can think over the possibility of the work and get the prototype going based on your suggestion. Thanks a lot for your precious time, I honestly appreciate it.

I found out that there are a bunch of mocking frameworks out there. Do they all do the same thing or do I use a specific framework for specific testing purpose? What are the differences between these frameworks? For example, if value was 0.00000009 or 9e-8, the method will call on printScientificNotation(value * 10, powerOfTen - 1); eight times and System.out.println(value + " x 10^" + powerOfTen); once. So the it is called recursively by the exponent for e. But how do I represent this by big O notation? Thanks!

    As the title says: What techniques are available for filtering objects when using zodb? The equivalent in SQL terms would be something like filtering results by a date range. Or only returning rows with a particular value set in a column. If I had a series of blog posts and only wanted ones done in the past month, what would I have to do? Is there any way to optimize these kinds of "queries"? My gut tells me iterating over all the objects in a relationship simply to perform a test is less than optimal.

    I have added some nullable value types to my serializable class. I perform a serialization using XmlSerializer but when the value is set to null, I get an empty node with xsi:nil="true".     I have a class (from NSObject) that contains: NSString name int position float speed I then create an array (NSMutableArray) of objects from this class. I would like to then sort the array by the 'speed' value, which is a float. I initially has the float value as an NSNumber and the int as NSInteger, and I was successfully sorting with: [myMutableArray sortUsingFunction:compareSelector context:@selector(position)]; where myMutableArray is my array of objects. here is the function: static int compareSelector(id p1, id p2, void *context) { SEL methodSelector = (SEL)context; id value1 = [p1 performSelector:methodSelector]; id value2 = [p2 performSelector:methodSelector]; return [value1 compare:value2]; } Now that I am using int instead of NSInteger, the above code does not work. One construct they both support is this x=["key" => "value"] Knowing the difference between arrays and hashes, I would think this to be illegal, but the result in Ruby is [{"key" => "value"}] Why is this? And with this kinda syntax why can't you do x=("key" => "value") Why is an array a special case for implicitly created hashes?

  • Looking for ideas on automatically arranging a set of objects (furniture) in a virtual room in AS3

    First of all, I don't want to visually arrange 3D models dragging them with the mouse, all I want is: Given a room of certain dimensions (L,W,H) and given a set of elements like beds, chairs, etc (with L,W,H dimensions, of course) I want to automatically arrange those elements to take advantage of the space as much as I can. So I want to be able to put as much furniture as I can in a given room. At the end I need to represent the arranged items visually, inside the room. My first thought was to use an array of items and sorting it with array.sortOn(["l","w","h"] Array.NUMERIC) and then define a gap between the objects and make the maths to put the objects one next to another, etc. but that isn't a good approach because some items may be placed on top of another ones (boxes of the same size, boxes on top of tables, etc). I really don't have experience on 3D programming, that's why I'm asking for help. Thanks in advance.

    Hi, i have declared an entity the following way: public class MyEntity { @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) private Long id; @Persistent private String text; //getters and setters } Now I want to retrieve the objects using the id. I tried to manage it from the Google Appengine Data Viewer with "SELECT * FROM MyEntity Where id = 382005" or via a query in a servlet. I get no results returned. But i know for sure that the object with the id exists (i made a jsp which queries all objects in the db and displays them in the db). So what is wrong in my query? Am I querying the wrong field? The Google Appengine Data Viewer names the field "ID/name" and it has the value "id=382005". Do I have to query with this names? I've tried but it didn't work out :(
