  • How do I have my apps dialog box pop up and take focus from the current running app?

    I know this type of thing is looked negatively upon but I write software for people with disabilities and sometimes good gui practices don't make sense. In this case, the user interacts with a assistive interface and under certain conditions, my control app needs to prompt the user with a question. My background process creates a dialog (I'm using wxwidgets wxDialog class) and calls Show(). The dialog box appears but it does not have focus (the application that the user was previously using keeps it). Since my users can't use mice, they can't simply click on the window. I've tried calling show and then followed by SetFocus(HWND) but that doesn't do it. What's the problem? Is this even possible? Window7. I'm thinking that it might have something to do with it being a dialog and not a full window (wxFrame). Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • How to submit an app that uses an iOS6 feature?

    I'm ready to submit my app to apple, however it says on the iOS Dev portal that xCode 4.5 cannot be used to submit apps yet, use the public release. xCode 4.4 wont compile my project because I am using -(NSUInteger)supportedInterfaceOrientations { return UIInterfaceOrientationMaskPortrait; } which is the new way to support orientation changes. It seems strange with iOS6 round the corner that I cannot submit this. Must I remove this and submit, then resubmit to support iOS6 when they allow it, or has anyone successfully submitted from xCode 4.5 beta 4? Thanks

    I have an application I'd like to build that starts when you start the mac and will appear in the dock. I have some experience with Objective-C and iPhone dev but none with Mac dev, I'm also a PC user normally so I'm not au fait with the norms of Mac usage. Any guidance here is appreciated. How do you get an application to autostart? Can you run an app in the tray bar? (with the clock etc in) or do apps only run in the dock?

  • Should repeated use of the camera crash an app?

    I have an app that builds a slideshow from user images. They can grab from their library or take a picture. I have found that repeated use of grabbing an image from the library is fine. But repeated use of taking a picture causes erratic behavior. I have been getting crashes but mostly what happens seems to be a reloading of the view after "didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo", which messes things up. I have no leaks and it seems to be releasing properly after each picture is taken. I am resizing the image and saving it in a data base. Is anyone else running into this situation? Was the camera not designed to be called this often?

    I'm trying to figure out where a whole pile of extra queries are being generated by my rails app. I need some ideas on how to tackle it. Or, if someone can give me some hints, I'd be grateful. I get these: SQL (1.0ms) SELECT name FROM sqlite_master WHERE type = 'table' AND NOT name = 'sqlite_sequence' SQL (0.8ms) SELECT name FROM sqlite_master WHERE type = 'table' AND NOT name = 'sqlite_sequence' SQL (0.8ms) SELECT name FROM sqlite_master WHERE type = 'table' AND NOT name = 'sqlite_sequence' repeated over and over on every request to the DB (as much as 70 times for a single request) I tried installing a plugin that traced the source of the queries, but it really didn't help at all. I'm using the hobofields gem, dunno if that is what's doing it but I'm somewhat wedded to it at the moment Any tips on hunting down the source of these extra queries?

  • Is it more secure to run a desktop app in a applet?

    Fist of all, when I say "run a desktop app in a applet" I mean do a Applet application that runs off-line, instead of a Desktop application that runs inside a JFrame. The little I know about applets (and maybe something I say is wrong, please correct me) is that applets have all permitions not granted by default. Also, the applets run inside a Sandbox, that does not allow information in or out without explicity permition. So, if I am focused on security in my application, its best to run it inside an applet (off-line, for a desktop application) then inside a JFrame. Is it right?

    i have a biztalk - window service tied middleware application which talks to other system. recently we had a request to test for scenarios which relates to the date. as we have a lot of places in the application which uses the .net Datetime.Now value, we don't really want to go into the code level and change all these values. so we're looking at the simplest way to test which is to just change the OS time. but what we notice is that sometimes when we change the system date time, we will get account lock out due to Active Directory. So my question is what's a good and safe way that i can test for future dates, etc by changing the windows OS system date time but without causing any issues with the Active Directory. And where can i find out more about AD and how it issues token and what's the correlation with the system date time changes. Thanks! ~m

  • Is RIA Services right for our Silverlight app at this point?

    Hi, I'm looking at Silverlight architectures and RIA Services looks interesting, but I am a bit concerned about its prelease status and how the feature set will change. We need our client app to be as responsive as possible over a slow network link, so a high priority is a solid sync system for pushing model state changes from the client back to the server. Will RIA Services help us in this regard or will I have to roll my own logic to do this ? Are there any other frameworks that can assist with this? Is the feature set involved in these requirements liable to change much in the next couple of months? If it makes any difference, our frontend is 100% Silverlight, so we dont need to worry about exposing SOAP APIs from the server or anything like that. It appears to me that RIA so far is a bit more mature for Silverlight use. Is this correct?

    I need to build a cross platform mobile app (iphone, android, etc). The app is for a company like a cellular operator (Tmobile, ATT). The app needs to do the following: Show previous bills (cached so that it does not have to download everytime) Need an internet connection to download newer bills, view recent data, etc. Can I build a mobile web app to handle this? I understand that there is offline storage and iPhone has good support for web apps (full screen, good icons, offline, etc). Will a web app be the best approach to take as the app requires to be online? The app will not be used by lots of people, just customers of the website who don't want to use an existing website. We are all web developers and a mobile web app looks like the best way to approach this.

  • Unit testing of static library that involves NSDocumentDirectory and other iOS App specific calls.

    Hi, I'm attempting to run unit tests for a static library that attempts to create/write/read a file in the document directory. Since this is a static library and not an application for the iOS, attempts to reference the NSDocumentDirectory is returning me directory for the form "/Users//Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/Documents" This directory does not exist. When attempting to access a directory from an actual application, the NSDocumentDirectory returns something of the form: "/Users//Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/4.2/FEDBEF5F-1326-4383-A087-CDA1B865E61A/Documents" (Please note the simulator version as well as application ID as part of the path) How can I overcome this shortcoming in the unit test framework for static libraries that implement tests that require iOS app specific calls?     I began an iPhone project the other day with a silly development code name, and now I want to change the name of the project since its nearly finished. But I'm not sure how to do this with XCode, trying the obvious of changing the application's name in the pinfo, causes the signing process to go wrong (I think...) and my app won't launch giving me a Launcher error. For example when we connect to SignalR service from browser through SignalR JavaScript Client the connection will be established. And if we refresh the page, close the tab or browser, or navigate to another URL then the connection will be closed automatically. This information had been well documented here. In a browser, SignalR client code that maintains a SignalR connection runs in the JavaScript context of a web page. That's why the SignalR connection has to end when you navigate from one page to another, and that's why you have multiple connections with multiple connection IDs if you connect from multiple browser windows or tabs. When the user closes a browser window or tab, or navigates to a new page or refreshes the page, the SignalR connection immediately ends because SignalR client code handles that browser event for you and calls the "Stop" method. But unfortunately this behavior doesn't work if we are using SignalR with AngularJS. AngularJS is a single page application (SPA) framework created by Google. It hijacks browser's address change event, based on the route table user defined, launch proper view and controller. Hence in AngularJS we address was changed but the web page still there. All changes of the page content are triggered by Ajax. So there's no page unload and load events. This is the reason why SignalR cannot handle disconnect correctly when works with AngularJS. If we dig into the source code of SignalR JavaScript Client source code we will find something below. It monitors the browser page "unload" and "beforeunload" event and send the "stop" message to server to terminate connection. And in any page we send the message to server, all clients will got the response. If we close one of the client, the server side "OnDisconnect" method will be invoked which is correct. But is we click "View 2" link in the page "OnDisconnect" method will not be invoked even though the content and browser address had been changed. This might cause many SignalR connections remain between the client and server. Below is what happened after I clicked "View 1" and "View 2" links four times. As you can see there are 4 live connections.   Solution Since the reason of this issue is because, AngularJS hijacks the page event that SignalR need to stop the connection, we can handle AngularJS route or state change event and stop SignalR connect manually. In the code below I moved the "connection" variant to global scope, added a handler to "$stateChangeStart" and invoked "stop" method of "connection" if its state was not "disconnected". 1: var connection; 2: app.run(['$rootScope', function ($rootScope) { 3: $rootScope.$on('$stateChangeStart', function () { 4: if (connection && connection.state && connection.state !== 4 /* disconnected */) { 5: console.log('signlar connection abort'); 6: connection.stop(); 7: } 8: }); 9: }]); Now if we refresh the page and navigated to View 1, the connection will be opened. At this state if we clicked "View 2" link the content will be changed and the SignalR connection will be closed automatically.   Summary In this post I demonstrated an issue when we are using SignalR with AngularJS. The connection cannot be closed automatically when we navigate to other page/state in AngularJS. And the solution I mentioned below is to move the SignalR connection as a global variant and close it manually when AngularJS route/state changed. You can download the full sample code here. Moving the SignalR connection as a global variant might not be a best solution. It's just for easy to demo here. In production code I suggest wrapping all SignalR operations into an AngularJS factory.   • Arduino IDE not connecting to microcontroller

    I get this error when trying to connect to an Arduino through a USB serial connection. I'm using the Arduino IDE 1.0.1 and the 64bit version of Ubuntu 12.04. This has been a reoccurring problem since 10.04 and happens to a few other programs that use a serial connection too. I have no problem getting serial data from the Arduino using Python or Screen.
