  • Debugging T4 Template in VS 2010 Crashes IDE

    I'm trying to debug a slightly-modified version of the ADO.NET POCO Entity Generator template using the directions Oleg Sych published a few years back. I modified the DbgJITDebugLaunchSetting key as recommended. I get a dialog indicating that a user-defined breakpoint has been hit. However, rather than being presented with the option to start a new instance of VS 2010 to debug, the original instance of VS 2010 just crashes and auto-restarts. Is it possible to debug T4 templates with VS 2010?

  • Mapping a ER model to Rails

    Hi there, I want to map the following ER schema to rails: I have an entity called "user" which has a self relationship called "has friend", which has an attribute called "status". In code, I would like to run: User.friends and it should return me an array of users, containing the users that I'm friend of. It shouldn't matter in which side of the relationship I am (i.e. whether I'm the friender or the friendee). Any thoughts?

    hi there I have an entity and it seems like using DateTime as the Id would be a good suit, however I there is this strange feeling that that it might be a terrible idea ( tho i cant come up with any logical reason as to why), This is an immutable object ( ie once the value is recorded it shouldn't really change ) So DateTime as id field in NHibernate yay or Nay? I would appreciate your comments on this

    When moving to Spring 2.5.x I found that it adds more stereotype annotations (on top of @Repository from 2.0): @Component, @Service and @Controller. How do you use them? Do you rely on implicit Spring support or you define custom stereotype specific functions/aspects/features? Or is it predominately for marking beans (compile time, conceptual, etc.)?

Could you please explain the key merits of each of these .NET ORM solutions? Entity Framework NHibernate Subsonic ADO.NET Datasets I have a good understanding of 1&4, and a cursory understanding of 2&3, but apparently not enough to understand the implied cultural perceptions of one towards the other.

  • What are the benefits of using ORM over XML Serialization/Deserialization?

    I've been reading about NHibernate and Microsoft's Entity Framework to perform Object Relational Mapping against my data access layer. I'm interested in the benefits of having an established framework to perform ORM, but I'm curious as to the performance costs of using it against standard XML Serialization and Deserialization. Right now, I develop stored procedures in Oracle and SQL Server that use XML Types for either input or output parameters and return or shred XML depending on need. I use a custom database command object that uses generics to deserialize the XML results into a specified serializable class. By using a combination of generics, xml (de)serialization and Microsoft's DAAB, I've got a process that's fairly simple to develop against regardless of the data source. Moreover, since I exclusively use Stored Procedures to perform database operations, I'm mostly protected from changes in the data structure. I have a vb.net web form with a html editor, when I add a hyperlink to the html editor, for example my application website for instance http://myapplication/myloginpage.aspx When I run and click the link I can browse my application from inside the Html Editor, which is so weird.
