• X server with nvidia driver crashing: 12.04

  My X server consistently crashes. It seems like this is happening when the X server is idle. This behaviour is new with 12.04. This is only happening on the second display of a multiseat system. Is there a configuration change I can make to stop this? • Some PowerShell goodness

  Ever work somewhere where processes dump files into folders to maintain an archive?  Me too and Windows Explorer hates it.  Very often I find myself needing to organize these files into subfolders so that I can go after files without locking up Windows Explorer and my answer used to be to write a program in something like C# to do the job.  These programs will typically enumerate the files in a folder and move each file to a subdirectory named based on a datestamp.  The last such program I wrote had to use lower-level Win32 API calls to perform the enumeration because it appears the standard .Net calls make use of the same method of enumerating the directories that Windows Explorer chokes on when dealing with a large number of entries in a particular directory, so a simple task was accomplished with a lot of code. Of course, this little utility was just something I used to make my life easier and "not a production app", so it was in my local source folder and not source control when my hard drive died.  So... I was getting ready to re-create it and thought it might be a good idea to play with PowerShell a bit - something I had been wanting to do but had not yet met a requirement to make me do it.  The resulting script was amazingly succinct and even building the flexibility for parameterization and adding line breaks for readability was only about 25 lines long.  Here's the code with discussion following: param(     [Parameter(         Mandatory = $false,         Position = 0,         HelpMessage = "Root of the folders or share to archive.  Be sure to end with appropriate path separator"     )]     [String] $folderRoot="\\fileServer\pathToFolderWithLotsOfFiles\",       [Parameter(         Mandatory = $false,         Position = 1     )]     [int] $days = 1 ) dir $folderRoot|?{(!($_.PsIsContainer)) -and ((get-date) - $_.lastwritetime).totaldays -gt $days }|%{     [string]$year=$([string]$_.lastwritetime.year)     [string]$month=$_.lastwritetime.month     [string]$day=$_.lastwritetime.day     $dir=$folderRoot+$year+"\"+$month+"\"+$day     if(!(test-path $dir)){         new-item -type container $dir     }     Write-output $_     move-item $_.fullname $dir } The script starts by declaring two parameters.  The first parameter holds the path to the folder that I am going to be sorting into subdirectories.  The path separator is intended to be included in this argument because I didn't want to mess with determining whether this was local or UNC and picking the right separator in code, but this could be easily improved upon using Path.Combine since PowerShell has access to the full framework libraries.  The second parameter holds a minimum age in days for files to be removed from the root folder.  The script then pipes the dir command through a query to include only files (by excluding containers) and of those, only entries that meet the age requirement based on the last modified datestamp.  For each of those, the datestamp is used to construct a folder name in the format YYYY\MM\DD (if you're in an environment where even a day's worth of files need further divided, you could make this more granular) and the folder is created if it does not yet exist.  Finally, the file is moved into the directory. One of the things that was really cool about using PowerShell for this task is that the new-item command is smart enough to create the entire subdirectory structure with a single call.  In previous code that I have written to do this kind of thing, I would have to test the entire tree leading down to the subfolder I want, leading to a lot of branching code that detracted from being able to quickly look at the code and understand the job it performs. Overall, I have to say I'm really pleased with what has been done making PowerShell powerful and useful.

• SCons does not clean all files

  I have a file system containing directories of "builds", each of which contains a file called "build-info.xml". However some of the builds happened before the build script generated "build-info.xml" so in that case I have a somewhat non-trivial SCons SConstruct that is used to generate a skeleton build-info.xml so that it can be used as a dependency for further rules. I.e.: for each directory: if build-info.xml already exists, do nothing. More importantly, do not remove it on a 'scons --clean'. if build-info.xml does not exist, generate a skeleton one instead - build-info.xml has no dependencies on any other files - the skeleton is essentially minimal defaults. during a --clean, remove build-info.xml if it was generated, otherwise leave it be. My SConstruct looks something like this: def generate_actions_BuildInfoXML(source, target, env, for_signature): cmd = "python '%s/bin/create-build-info-xml.py' --version $VERSION --path . --output ${TARGET.file}" % (Dir('#').abspath,) return cmd bld = Builder(generator = generate_actions_BuildInfoXML, chdir = 1) env.Append(BUILDERS = { "BuildInfoXML" : bld }) ... # VERSION = some arbitrary string, not important here # path = filesystem path, set elsewhere build_info_xml = "%s/build-info.xml" % (path,) if not os.path.exists(build_info_xml): env.BuildInfoXML(build_info_xml, None, VERSION = build) My problem is that 'scons --clean' does not remove the generated build-info.xml files. I played around with env.Clean(t, build_info_xml) within the 'if' but I was unable to get this to work - mainly because I could not work out what to assign to 't' - I want a generated build-info.xml to be cleaned unconditionally, rather than based on the cleaning of another target, and I wasn't able to get this to work. If I tried a simple env.Clean(None, "build_info_xml") after but outside the 'if' I found that SCons would clean every single build-info.xml file including those that weren't generated. Not good either. What I'd like to know is how SCons goes about determining which files should be cleaned and which should not. Is there something funny about the way I've used a generator function that prevents SCons from recording this target as a Clean candidate?

  Hello! I have a problem doing commit with sharpsvn. Now i´m adding all the files of my working copy (if the file is added throws an exception), and after it i do commit. It works but it trows exceptions. There is some way to get the status of the repository before do add() and only add the new files or the files who are changed? And if i delete one file or folder on my working copy , How can i delete these files or folder on the repository? • Deployment Error: Silverlight 4.0 w/WCF RIA Services in ASP.NET MVC 2 App

  I've got an MVC 2 App with an RIA Services link to a Silverlight Application. On my local machine, all is well, but when I deploy to Discount ASP servers, neither the MVC controller nor the WCF RIA services called from silverlight function: A silverlight datagrid gets a load error: System.ServiceModel.DomainServices.Client.DomainOperationException: Load operation failed for query... The remote server returned an error NotFound. In the MVC page where I had a simple table that worked prior to adding an EF model and DomainDataSource, I now get the error: Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information. This is very similar to an issue I had before, but after upgrading from the betas of WCF/Silverlight 4, but the fix I had added there doesn't seem to work any longer. • Windows Sharepoint Services - FullTextSqlQuery Document library Unable to find items created by SYST

  We have created an ASP.NET web app that upload files to WSS Doc Libary. The files get added under 'SYSTEM ACCOUNT' in the library. The FullTextSqlQuery class is used to search the document libary items. But it only searches files that has been uploaded by a windows user account like 'Administrator' and ignores the ones uploaded by 'SYSTEM ACCOUNT'. As a result the search results are empty even though we have the necessary data in the document library. What could be the reason for this? • MSBuild OutputPath property and absolute paths

  I'm trying to set the OutputPath value to an absolute path: <OutputPath>c:\Projects\xxx\Deployment</OutputPath> But I get this error: Error 17 The expression "[System.IO.Path]::GetFullPath(D:\Projects\xxx\trunk\xxx.Web.Deployment\c:\Projects\xxx\Deployment\)" cannot be evaluated. The given path's format is not supported. 1 1 xxx.Web.Deployment Is there a way to use an absolute path with the OutputPath property? • Why does WPF Style to show validation errors in ToolTip work for a TextBox but fails for a ComboBox?

Simply by commenting the style out everyting works perfectly. How do I fix this? • iPhone: Can access files in documents directory in Simulator, but not device

  Hi there! I'm writing an app that copies some contents of the bundle into the applications Document's directory, mainly images and media. I then access this media throughout the app from the Document's directory. This works totally fine in the Simulator, but not on the device. The assets just come up as null. I've done NSLog's and the paths to the files look correct, and I've confirmed that the files exist in the directory by dumping a file listing in the console. Any ideas? Thank you! • jQuery Smooth Sliding DIV Height

  I have a Div that is 400px in height with the ID "content", I then do a slideToggle on the Div, load some data into the Div of a varying height e.g. 200px, and then do another slideToggle. What I get is the slide expanding to 400px, then jump back to 200px. And the same in reverse, expanding to 200px, then jump to 400px. This is my code: $('#content').slideToggle(600, function() { $("#content").load('data.php').slideToggle(600); }); So I thought I could do something like this, which would slide up the content Div, load the data, and then after it's loaded slide back down. This doesn't jump like the above method, but it is quite jerky for some reason. $('#content').slideUp(600, function() { $("#content").load('data.php', function() { $("#content").slideDown(600); }); }); Can anybody tell me if there is a better way of doing this so that I can slide it smoothly?

• Using IIS Application Request Routing (ARR) for ASP.NET MVC

  I use a simple ASP.NET MVC web (the template you use when you create a new site) and the web works as expected in my live environment. I now try to use IIS Application Request Routing version 2. I have a rule that send all reuqests to a different server that match a rule. The settings are a bit like this: http://blogs.iis.net/wonyoo/archive/2008/07/09/application-request-routing-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy.aspx My rule is just a bit different it is /shop(.*). Only requests that contain shop are send to a different server. I have to use rewrite, not redirect (The same as in the Picture) This works as long as the web the original requests go to is no ASP.NET MVC web. I tried to use a plain htm file in the webfolder and it worked. If put a compiled ASP.NET application into the webfolder it worked. But as soon as I put an ASP.NET MVC web into the folder, request arr served by this application. My understanding is that the ARR should kick in before the web application gets the chance to handle the request. Did anybody use ARR sucessfully as a reverse proxy for a ASP.NET MVC web? EDIT Here is the resulting web config when the rewrite roule is entered. • Scripted iFrame loads contents over current page instead of within an iFrame

  I'm trying to load a webpage into an iFrame while keeping a content bar on top, but for some pages that I try to load into the iFrame the contents is loaded as if I navigated to that page. I use the following code to dynamically load an iframe: $('#my_iFrame').attr("src","http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/26/opinion/26ryan.html"); It looks like there is a script on these pages that checks to see if it is being loaded into an iframe and changes the document.location to it's own url if so. Is there any way around a hack like this so that I can load that site into an iFrame? Maybe some way to protect the value of window.location?

I'd guess I'll have to bind the GridViewColumn-collection to something in the ViewModel, but what, and how? The ViewModel does know nothing of WPF, so I got no clue how to achieve this in MVVM. any help here?

• Auto Login facebook user into application

  So, Here is the scenario I am trying to fix. A returning user is logged into facebook but not logged into the application. In this case when the user tries to load the application, since the user cookie is not attained yet, it redirects the user to the login page. I googled around and found this solution, FB.Event.subscribe('auth.sessionChange', function(response) { if (response.session) { window.location.reload(); } } basically whats happening here is, we are registering to facebook for a login/logout event and when it receives a response, we reload the page. Now its loads the right page since we have the user cookie on our site domain after the first load. this works, but the problem is the double load. It takes a lot of time. How can I attain the user cookie on server side for returning user? so that I don't have to do the initial page reload. Also, I have looked at yelp, and somehow they are able to load the user information without doing double load, does any body know they are able to do it? Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

  I am using NHibernate against an Oracle database with the NHibernate.Driver.OracleDataClientDriver driver class. I have an integration test that pulls back expected data properly when executed through the IDE using TestDriven.net. However, when I run the unit test through the NUnit GUI or Console, NHibernate throws an exception saying it cannot find the Oracle.DataAccess assembly. Obviously, this prevents me from running my integration tests as part of my CI process. NHibernate.HibernateException : The IDbCommand and IDbConnection implementation in the assembly Oracle.DataAccess could not be found. Ensure that the assembly Oracle.DataAccess is located in the application directory or in the Global Assembly Cache. If the assembly is in the GAC, use element in the application configuration file to specify the full name of the assembly.* I have tried making the assembly available in two ways, by copying it into the bin\debug folder and by adding the element in the config file. Again, both methods work when executing through TestDriven in the IDE. Neither work when executing through NUnit GUI/Console.   I am making a simple iPhone drawing program as a personal side-project. I capture touches event in a subclassed UIView and render the actual stuff to a seperate CGLayer. After each render, I call [self setNeedsLayout] and in the drawRect: method I draw the CGLayer to the screen context. This all works great and performs decently for drawing rectangles. However, I just want a simple "freehand" mode like a lot of other iPhone applications have. The way I thought to do this was to create a CGMutablePath, and simply: CGMutablePathRef path; -(void)touchBegan { path = CGMutablePathCreate(); } -(void)touchMoved { CGPathMoveToPoint(path,NULL,x,y); CGPathAddLineToPoint(path,NULL,x,y); } -(void)drawRect:(CGContextRef)context { CGContextBeginPath(context); CGContextAddPath(context,path); CGContextStrokePath(context); } However, after drawing for more than 1 second, performance degrades miserably. I would just draw each line into the off-screen CGLayer, if it were not for variable opacity! The less-than-100% opacity causes dots to be left on the screen connecting the lines. I have looked at CGContextSetBlendingMode() but alas I cannot find an answer. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Other iPhone apps are able to do this with very good efficiency.

• MIPS (or SPIM): Loading floating point numbers...

  Hey hey, I am working on a little mini compiler while trying to learn some MIPS here. Here's my issue: MIPS has an instruction li (load immediate) which would work like this li $5,100 which would load 100 into register 5. However, I need to load floats into registers right now and am struggling with figuring out a way to do it...since li $5,2.5 does not work. Anyone have any advice? I am working in C, I was thinking I could somehow get the integer representation of the float I am working with (i.e. so the floats binary representation == the ints binary representation) then load the "integer" into the register and treat it like a float from then on. Maybe its too late but Im stuck right now.

It just won't load. Any idea on how to bypass this? Or solution generally using PHP?

  Hi, when I use XamlReader.Load() with an invalid XAML string, the resulting XAMLParseException is not caught although beeing in a try-catch-block: try { UIElement xamlCode = XamlReader.Load(XamlText) as UIElement; } catch (Exception ex) { ErrorText = ex.Message; } The code is called from the Tick-Event of a DispatcherTimer, but also in Events like MouseLeftButtonDown the exception is not caught resulting in a break in the Line where I call .Load(). • Differing paths for lua script and app

  My problem is that I'm having trouble specifying paths for Lua to look in. For example, in my script I have a require("someScript") line that works perfectly (it is able to use functions from someScript when the script is run standalone. However, when I run my app, the script fails. I believe this is because Lua is looking in a location relative to the application rather than relative to the script. Hardcoding the entire path down to the drive isn't an option since people can download the game wherever they like so the highest I can go is the root folder for the game. We have XML files to load in information on objects. In them, when we specify the script the object uses, we only have to do something like Content\Core\Scripts\someScript.lua where Content is in the same directory as Debug and the app is located inside Debug. If I try putting that (the Content\Core...) in Lua's package.path I get errors when I try to run the script standalone. I'm really stuck, and am not sure how to solve this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. P.S. When I print out the default package.path in the app I see syntax like ;.\?.lua in a sequence like... ;.\?.lua;c:...(long file path)\Debug\?.lua; I assume the ; means the end of the path, but I have no idea what the .\?.lua means. Any Lua file in the directory?
