• Windows Server 2008 R2 - What now?

  So I installed Windows Server 2008 R2, I have Exchange 2010 running for some mail. I installed BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express for kicks. This server runs dns/dhcp for 2 laptops. But what now? It has 200g's free on the main drive and a 150g external that I have mapped as a network drive. I am not sure what else to do with this thing. It was my main station but since my laptop is nicer I am running it headless and using the lcd monitor for it as a second monitor for the laptop when I am at home.

• Why is my firewall preventing me from accessing some websites

  I have an old Belkin router and when I enable the firewall I cannot access certain websites. For example: http://www.avisynth.org With Firewall Enabled: Main page loads and begins to do a meta refresh which never finishes. With Firewall Disabled: Main page loads and the meta refresh completes as normal and I am taken to the wiki page. I have not setup any rules in my firewall that would prevent this site from loading, yet it refuses to load unless I have the firewall disabled completely. My router has a hidden page with advanced settings on it for the firewall which I was able to acccess and take a screenshot of, but I did not want to mess with these values unless I absolutely have to do so: What might be causing this problem and how would I go about fixing it?

  Network is not working anymore - Ubuntu 12.04 Hello, I have a problem with my network connection. I have been using the same laptop with Ubuntu and the same connection for more than a year, and suddenly yesterday the connection stopped working (both wireless and wired). I've tested with another computer and the connection is fine (both wireless and wired). I've been reading similar posts but I haven't found a solution yet. • Need help with Microsoft Access 07 & Reports

  I'm finding it difficult to get MS reporting working to what I'd like to show. What I'm trying to do is: a) In my database store a URL file (HTTP external file), that is a .jpeg. I'd like to use that URL to call the image on the report sheet. I have tried to use 'Control source' on the data panel, but with no success. Any way I can get Dynamic Images to show up on each database. Also, I have a couple of Relational Databases. One Defines Values: For Example: DefinePets('petID','Name of Pet') The other one links the Main DB with the 'DefinePets' database. Eg: connect('petID','mainID','extraFeild') I'd like my report to Go into the "connect" Table, where the the currently viewed Record Value = mainID, then find petID and return Name of Pet. There is a many to many link between definePets and the main Table. (Therefore connect is joining them up) Or is that too much to ask from a simple package like Access?

• ubuntu one syncronizing problems

  I am a user of Ubuntu and Ubuntu One. First: I had a serious problem with ubuntu one. I have a windows and several Ubuntu machine and they all sync one account. My first problem is that i can't really delete files. Whenever I delete something Ubu One resync it, so it appears again in my folder. Furthermore, when i move something to another dir it synconize the new location and resync the old one, so i got doubled my files. I can't reorganize my files. So i tried to delete the duplicated files through the web dash, but i cant reorder and select multiple files by extension. For example i wanted to move all PDF to another location... Second: I can't configure in the ubuntu one app the loacation of the main One folder. For example i want my One folder to be on another partition than my HOME folder. It is a main problem in linux and windows also. I tried to move that folder in windows with the hardlink method. So i uninstalled the U1, then i created a folder link to another drive, than installed the U1. THEN i lost all my files in my U1. Lucky thing that i have a backup, but i thought U1 is a stable solution for me, and i planned to extend my space, but these bugs are major problems! It's worth to pay for it if it's working perfectly. I think it's more important than releasing a new version in every month.

• Firefox switches focus to previous window when the current newly opened window's page loads

  The title pretty much sums it up. After opening the browser, when I open a new window (private browsing) and load the first page of interest, the focus goes back to the last Firefox window. It works with more than just 1 main and 1 private windows, like for example 3 main and 2 private windows. It repeats after closing all browser windows, waiting for it to unload and opening the browser again. I'm using Windows 7 and the latest version of Firefox, and it's been happening to me for about half a year on two different computers and a notebook (same OS and browser version). It's pretty annoying. How do I fix this?

• Grub doesn't show both Ubuntu installations

  I have a laptop with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installed as the main OS. The other day I installed Ubuntu-Studio (version 12.04) into another partition on the machine. The installation went great and when the machine booted, the grub menu popped up and I could see the option for Ubuntu Studio and the vanilla Ubuntu OS'. The problem was that this version of grub, installed by the Studio installer, didn't look great and insisted on putting Studio at the top of the list, and therefore as the main OS to boot. I use the standard Ubuntu more often, so I booted into that and ran sudo grub-install dev/sda. That worked OK and now Ubuntu boots as normal. Only problem is that the Grub menu doesn't show up and doesn't give me a chance to choose the other OS. Running sudo os-prober shows that it can find ubuntu studio, it doesn't give me a chance to boot it. Any ideas as to how I can fix this problem? Cheers in advance. EDIT: followed instructions here and saw the boot menu, but the only boot options present were for the standard installation of Ubuntu.

• Invalid BOOT.INI (dual boot XP with 7)

  I had Windows XP x64 as my main system, and i also had a second partition with Windows XP x64. Both booted from first partition (C:) I then installed Windows 7 Ultimate on the first partition. I've added NTLDR using BCDRDIT. I've also copied NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM and BOOT.INI onto the drive where XP remained. However then i try to boot into Windows XP x64 i get Invalid BOOT.INI file Booting from c:\windows\ NTDETECT failed I found instructions on how to fix it using a boot disk, however the partitions are on a software RAID. I've tried to boot from a customized XP CD with the drivers, however it does not offer me a Repair option for some reason - just setup. • Under kvm, Vista guest OS install halts on black screen

  I am using kvm on my ubuntu-server-10.04 amd64 dual core PC. I am trying to install a Windows Vista guest OS. The installation proceeds properly until the system reboot halfway into the installation process, at which point it stops on a black screen and CPU usage goes to near zero. I created the vm with virt-install as follows: virt-install -n vista --connect qemu:///system -r 1024 -vcpus 2 \ --os-type windows --os-variant vista \ --virt-type kvm --accelerate \ -c /dev/sr0 \ --disk path=/dev/main/vista-hd \ --network bridge=br0 \ --vnc --noautoconsole Where /dev/sr0 is the physical drive with the vista installation DVD, and /dev/main/vista-hd is a 20-GB lvm logical volume I created. A number of people seem to have had success installing vista under KVM, but I haven't been able to determine what is causing my problem. Ideas anyone?

• How can we achive a 403 Permissions Denied for a subdomain?

  We have a multisite installed in the root directory (multisite.com) and also a wordpress single installation on a subdomain (help.multisite.com) In the root .htaccess we placed: #START Security: Disallow access to folders Options All -Indexes # END Security On the main site (as expected we get) "403 Permission Denied. You do not have permission for this request /wp-content/blogs.dir/83/" Nice. :) BUT. We just noticed that when trying to access the subdomains folders we get: Internal Server Error. The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.... Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error... This is something we do NOT want. So the question is: How can we avoid the above result and make the message for the subdomains be "403 Permission Denied" (the same as for the main site and NOT "500 Internal Server Error" (as it is now)? We put what, where?

• Java issues on OpenVZ Ubuntu 11.04 (.jar/.sh files)

  I've had a whole line of messes with java and .jar files. • Update to 13.10: blank screen and repeated suspend on wake from suspend

  After updating from 13.04 to 13.10, intermittently when awaking from suspend, my screen will blink to black screen a few times, offer a login screen, and then go back to suspend unexpectedly. This will repeat each time I subsequently awake it from suspend. Only a restart will escape the suspend loop. This issue arose in tandem with the already raised issue regarding networking not restarting on wake from suspend, though appears to be distinct from that issue.

• Designing a Content-Based ETL Process with .NET and SFDC

  As my firm makes the transition to using SFDC as our main operational system, we've spun together a couple of SFDC portals where we can post customer-specific documents to be viewed at will. As such, we've had the need for pseudo-ETL applications to be implemented that are able to extract metadata from the documents our analysts generate internally (most are industry-standard PDFs, XML, or MS Office formats) and place in networked "queue" folders. From there, our applications scoop of the queued documents and upload them to the appropriate SFDC CRM Content Library along with some select pieces of metadata. I've mostly used DbAmp to broker communication with SFDC (DbAmp is a Linked Server provider that allows you to use SQL conventions to interact with your SFDC Org data). • What are some arguments AGAINST using EntityFramework?

  The application I am currently building has been using Stored procedures and hand-crafted class models to represent database objects. Some people have suggested using Entity Framework and I am considering switching to that since I am not that far into the project. My problem is, I feel the people arguing for EF are only telling me the good side of things, not the bad side :) My main concerns are: We want Client-Side validation using DataAnnotations, and it sounds like I have to create the client-side models anyways so I am not sure that EF would save that much coding time We would like to keep the classes as small as possible when going over the network, and I have read that using EF often includes extra data that is not needed We have a complex database layer which crosses multiple databases, and I am not sure EF can handle this. We have one Common database with things like Users, StatusCodes, Types, etc and multiple instances of our main databases for different instances of the application. SELECT queries can and will query across all instances of the databases, however users can only modify objects that are in the database they are currently working on. They can switch databases without reloading the application. Object modes are very complex and there are often quite a few joins involved Arguments for EF are: Concurrency. I wouldn't have to code in checks to see if the record was updated before each save Code Generation. EF can generate partial class models and POCOs for me, however I am not positive this would really save me that much time since I think we would still need to create the client-side models for validation and some custom parsing methods. Speed of development since we wouldn't need to create the CRUD stored procedures for every database object Our current architecture consists of a WPF Service which handles database calls via parameterized Stored Procedures, POCO objects that go to/from the WCF service and the WPF client, and the WPF client itself which transforms POCOs into class Models for the purpose of Validation and DataBinding.

• Pythonic Java. Yes, or no?

  Python use of indentation for code scope was initially very polemic and now is considered one of the best language features, because it helps ( almost by forcing us ) to have a consistent style. Well, I saw this post http://bit.ly/hmvTe9 where someone posted Java code with ; y {} aligned to the right margin to look more pythonic. It was very shocking at first ( as a matter of fact, if I ever see Java code like that in one of my projects I would be scared! ) However, there is something interesting here. Do we need all those braces and semicolons? How would the code would look like without them? class Person int age void greet( String a ) if( a == "" ) out.println("Hello stranger") else out.printf("Hello %s%n", a ) int age() return this.age class Main void main() new Person().greet("") Looks good to me, but in such small piece of code is hard to appreciate it, and since I don't Python too much, I can't tell by looking at existing libraries if it would be cleaner or not. • Some problems after running ubuntu tweak application

  I am a first time user of ubuntu 12.04 and must say that i am enjoying it. Somehow my skype on ubuntu is screwed up. The message that i am getting says (Disk IO error). Did any one face the problem before. Also i downloaded the ubuntu tweak application. After that application has clean some file, the application it self is not starting now.. I am quiet new to linux much and fear that if the tweak application has cleaned some files which were necessary. • OpenGL camera moves faster than player

  I have a side scroller game made in OpenGL, and I'm trying to center the player in the viewport when he moves. I know how to do it: cameraX = Width / 2 / TileSize - playerPosX cameraY = Height / 2 / TileSize - playerPosY However, I have a problem. The player and "camera" move, but the player moves faster than the "camera" scrolls. So, the player can actually move out of the screen.   I just started using Slick2D and learned how simple it is to load in a tilemap and display it. I tried atleast a dozen different tmx files from numerous examples to see if it was the actual file that was corrupted. • Executing Secondary Applications

  I have an application I am attempting to make "portable". The application contains a lot of secondary utility functions that I would like to execute on external files(from the app). I tried adding them in the build process but I didn't get any "Executables" for them(just the main one and a few others). Is there a way to get these to excute? They are basically command line utility functions to process some text files but use large files in the distribution and are also used by the main application. Thanks
