• jQuery drag drop slower for more DIV items

  Hi there, I have got a hierarchichal tags (with parent child relationship) in my page and it will account to 500 - 4500 (can even grow). When i bound the draggable and droppable for all i saw very bad performance in IE7 and IE6. The custom helper wont move smoothly and was very very slow. Based on some other post i have made the droppable been bound/unbound on mouseover and mouseout events (dynamically). Its better now. But still i dont see the custom helper move very smoothly there is a gap between the mouse cursor and the helper when they move and gets very bad when i access the site from remote. Please help me to address this performance issue. Am totally stuck here.. :(

• Best approach for building a multiplattform graphical interface for a command-line application

  Hi, I developed a command line application, whose binary runs in Linux, Windows and Mac OSX. It reads some text input files, but I realize that some special users can not handle this. I would then like to build some kind of graphical interface, where the user only finds buttons and scroll bars for selecting the input parameters, a big "run" button, and then it reads the output of the program and makes some figures. I also need that everything gets finally packed in a single file, which uses only static libraries, so the user just needs to copy the file to his/her machine and run it. I would like to know what is the best open source and multi-platform approach to do this. 10 years ago I played a bit with something similar on DEC machines, so I guess that nowadays the situation has probably improved a bit. P.S. For designing the graphical interface, I am looking for a graphical approach, where you add buttons, scroll bars with the mouse P.S. 2: the interface is really simple, just need less than 10 buttons, 5 text fields and 2 scrolla bars Thanks

I'm just trying to accomplish haveing the .removeClass("under") delayed by a second or two when the mouse un-hovers. I don't want to delay the slideUp. Any ideas?

  hi, i'm coding a little app for controlling soulseek - what i want do is clicking the "Search Files" button by code. i've got the handle to the tabbed control (SysTabControl32) and managed to change the tab with following code: rc1 = SendMessage(hwnd, TCM_SETCURFOCUS, ByVal 0, ByVal 0&) the problem: the tab control is changing to the proper button, but nothing happens. i assume i also also have to send a mouseclick to it, as when clicking by mouse, the button goes down and up again. any ideas how to do this? thx

• Select points on a map

  I am just beginning design work on a problem that I'm sure has been solved before. In a web based application, I need to: a) present a map b) place a set of points (map-pins) on the map c) allow the user at his browser to draw a simple closed curve on the map with his mouse d) send the path of that curve back to the server e) on the server, select from the set of points those that are within the closed curve. What are the best API's to use for this problem? (I know I can and will do more research with Google, but I'm figuring there is probably someone who has done this that can give me some pointers to narrow my search space.) Thanks.

  There is only one text field on a HTML form. Users input some text, press Enter, submit the form, and the form is reloaded. The main use is barcode reading. I use the following code to set the focus to the text field: <script language="javascript"> <!-- document.getElementById("#{id}").focus() //--> </script> It works most of the time (if nobody touches the screen/mouse/keyboard). However, when the user click somewhere outside the field within the browser window (the white empty space), the cursor is gone. One a single field HTML form, how can I prevent the cursor from getting lost? Or, how to re-focus the cursor inside the field after the cursor is lost? thx!

• Using jquery scrollTop to position absolute Div

  Hello, I am trying to position an Absolute DIV using Jquery, depending on where the user is clicking on the page. At the moment this works just great $('#window').css('left', jsEvent.pageX); $('#window').css('top', jsEvent.pageY); This positions the element exactly where my mouse has clicked the screen... Until you scroll down that is. That is why I am trying to achieve something that will take the amount of pixels from the top of the page into account. I thought something like this... $('#window').css('top', jsEvent.pageY + scrollTop()); would do the trick, unfortunately it doesn't work. Any hints? Thanks, Tim

• How to retarget the scroll wheel in VB.Net?

  I have a form in VB.Net with Autoscroll enabled and several ComboBoxes within it. When I click on a ComboBox, I can use the mouse wheel to scroll through options, but I cannot deselect the ComboBox (by clicking off it on a blank portion of the parent form) in order to return to scrolling the parent form. This makes navigation in the form annoying, as I instinctively click off the control and flip the scroll wheel, causing the ComboBox to change selections instead of moving the parent form. Is there a way to make this work in the intuitive way I expect it to, or do I have some conceptual confusion that makes this the wrong question to ask?

• Any way to do slanted/diagonal mouseovers via css/javascript?

  Hi, I have a box built via html borders. I want to connect the bottom left corner to the top right corner with a diagonal line. Either with html/css or by using a background image, doesn't matter. I'll figure that part out later. ------ - /- - / - - / - -/---- Here's the tricky part: I want a different thing to happen depending on which side of the line the mouse is hovering over. I'll do something like make some text visible or change the background color. Is that possible in web programing? I've thought of doing a "Riemann sum" type calculation with a bunch of invisible divs. Any easier way? Thanks!

  Flash overlay snags on underlying divs. What is the solution? I'm using Shadowbox to overlay a Flash file on my page, but the movement within the Flash file causes it to break or "shear" where the movie comes across the divs in the HTML hidden below. The screenshot shows it far better than I could explain ;) If you move the mouse, or tap the keyboard to "focus" the screen back on the Flash it all works seamlessly. • Python: wxpython wx.media.MediaCtrl - millisecond seek capability

  I've been searching for a media player that can display sub-second resolution in videos. Some pointed me to the Frame stepping functionality in MPC, but I'd like even more than that. I know from previous experience with wxPython that the wx.media.MediaCtrl both displays and (as fast as i can click with the mouse anyway) stops the video with millisecond-precision. The code is here, and runs no-problem with python +wxpython module. Has anyone come across other video players that handle this functionality, or has seen a more robust/developed video player written with wxPython that allows for this level of precision? This is possibily a one-off task so I'd like to use existing solutions if possible. Thanks.

  I am using OpenLayers to create a box of interest with my program. However the values come back as pixels. But I want Longitude and Latitude, not pixels. The Mouse Position control does show the correct long & lat. I really don't care how to box is created, I just want an easy way for the user to select a area of the map and I need to get the lat & longs of the area. (Box, Circle, doesn't matter)

• Spatial Index for Rectangles With Fast Insert

  Hello, I'm looking for a data structure that provides indexing for Rectangles. I need the insert algorithm to be as fast as possible since the rectangles will be moving around the screen (think of dragging a rectangle with your mouse to a new position). I've looked into R-Trees, R+Trees, kD-Trees, Quad-Trees and B-Trees but from my understanding insert's are usually slow. I'd prefer to have inserts at sub-linear time complexity so maybe someone can prove me wrong about either of the listed data structures. I should be able to query the data structure for what rectangles are at point(x, y) or what rectangles intersect rectangle(x, y, width, height). EDIT: The reason I want insert so fast is because if you think of a rectangle being moved around the screen, they're going to have to be removed and then re-inserted. Thanks!

  I have a control inherited from usercontrol, I have implemented it such a way that it acts as XY Plane and displays curves. When user clicks and holds the mouse down for 1 sec i trigger SetToolTip to display tooltip indicationg (x,y) coordinates. Tooltip remains even on drag updating x,y positions System.Windows.Forms.ToolTip myToolTip = new System.Windows.Forms.ToolTip(); myToolTip.SetToolTip(myControl,"x= val,y=val"); It is working fine But Tooltip stops showing after (1)I play around for sometime(click,drag repeatedly) and will never show up (2)I move some other window on this control(this happens sporadically) what could be the problem???

I think I have to specify the Encoding/Character Set somwhere. But where?

• Curious to Know what Eclipse 'Show Heap Status' does

  Hi All In Eclipse (I am using 3.4 Ganymede) there is an option under Preferences>General>Show Heap Status which when checked shows near bottom of IDE like 46M of 98M and if we move the mouse over 'Recycle Bin' it says 'Run Garbage Collector'. I am curoius to know how this works.What will happen when 'Run Garbage Collector' is clicked. My enivroment set up is something like jdk6 is insatlled and IDE used for development and run in Tomcat server. So my understanding is all the objects which are run through Tomcat should be garbage collected. Is this correct. Is there a way to see what objects Eclipse identified as Garbage Cheers

  Hello guys, I am trying to do the following. Imagine you are reading some LINQ article and you decide to copy/paste some code from the article to a newly created project. In most cases, if you directly compile you will probably get an error for missing a using directives or assembly reference. I am trying to optimize the process where I have to go each keyword, click on it with the mouse and hit Shift + Alt + F10 to add the using directive.   I have a business plan & money to hire a developer - the essentials involve simple online games for children (played via traditional computer over the internet) such that their scores are uploaded to a database that can be viewed via a nice portal. What I don't know is: what technologies I would want my developer to know (the only somewhat unusual requirement I have is that the games have relatively accurate timing of keypresses/mouse presses) how much I should expect to pay (in general, what is the appropriate range) how many hours a program of the complexity of a simple tower defense -type game should take to develop (to be clear, the idea is not to implement TD, but rather other games of similar complexity) whether I should go with capable acquaintances, some online kind of online web-dev bidding site, or just try to find a capable undergraduate at the local university who I can wow with his/her first big paycheck, how I should communicate the software's specifications to my hired developer... • ReSharper wrapping test result stacktraces?

  ReSharper 4.5's test runner will run MSTest tests out of the box, and that's what I'm doing. When a test fails, I click on the test to see the stacktrace and the failure reason. The pane I'm clicking in to do this is the "Unit Test Sessions" pane. The lower half of this pane (or the right half, if you have it configured that way) shows the reason and stacktrace for the failure. This section/pane does not word wrap, so I have to use the mouse to scroll left and right all the time. How can I make this reason/stacktrace pane word wrap?

• JQUERY nav problem

  This is part 2 of a different problem that I was having... Hopefully this is about as simple as you can get, but I'm clearly missing something..... The gist is, I'm trying to get a mouseover effect using jquery/css with a mix of background images and colors. It's mostly there, but the issue that I'm having at the moment is, I mouseover the main nav = fine, I mouseover the subnav = fine, I mouse BACK over to that same main nav element, and it's OFF state kicks in instead of remaining ON as it's supposed to... • How to maintain tabs when pasting in Vim

  I use the tab key to indent my python code in Vim, but whenever I copy and paste a block Vim replaces every tab with 4 spaces, which raises an IndentationError I tried setting :set paste as suggested in related questions but it makes no difference Other sites suggest pasting 'tabless' code and using the visual editor to re-indent, but this is asking for trouble when it comes to large blocks Are there any settings I can apply to vim to maintain tabs on copy/paste? • Programming image maps

  Hello, I am looking for a javascript/jquery solution to build a map with selectable tracks. It will consist of area's map (image) with some river routes for boats that have to be selectable - route have to be made clearer on mouse hover and after user clicks on a route a popup window should emerge. Basically I am just looking for a solution for this type of 'map'. Maybe there are some jquery widgets/plugins that would ease the work ? I don't know where to start actually..
