• Cannot Install Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit)

  I have tried every way I know how to get Windows 7 SP1 to install. It fails every time. Below is what looks like the relevant contents of the CBS.Log file. • Is it possible to recover from the Windows 8 refresh feature?

  The intention of the Windows 8 RTM (released version) Refresh feature is to restore the system to the way it was when I first installed. It didn't though. Almost everything that came in the start-screen (not a menu any more) is gone, not just third party apps I installed, but EVERYTHING other than the icon for internet explorer, and the icon for the store, and the desktop, were wiped. Out of the box Windows 8 had a pretty large list of things installed, and it seems that the Refresh feature wipes all of them out. Is it possible to really get the system back to a fresh install state, or should I just re-install from the DVD I made? (I have access to Windows 8 RTM, legally through the MS Action Pack subscription.) I suspect that if I create a new account, I might get a new desktop with a default set of icons, but I'm hoping it might be possible to do this without using a different login. The second problem with Windows 8 refresh is it seems to trash the ACL's on my C: drive, taking all permissions away for access to the C: drive, making nothing on it visible or readable to my primary and only login account. I believe it might be possible to undo the damage done by the "refresh" with some judicious use of icacls from the command prompt.

• Allocating More Than 4 GB Of Memory

  I am facing an issue with memory allocation. I have: Host OS: Microsoft Windows XP - Professional x64 Edition - Version 2003 - Service Pack 2. Host Physical Memory: 8 GB Guest OS: Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 4 (Nahant Update 5). I am not sure if it is 32 or 64 bits. The lsb_release -a command says that argument LSB Version: core-3.0-ia32, so I guess that would be 32 bits... VMware Player Version: 2.5.2 build-156735 I would like that VMware Player could allocate more that 4 GB, but when I go to the setting, it only lists 4 GB. If I choose the "About" option, it actually says that I have 8 GB installed in the host machine. This VMware image created by someone else and provided to me, apparently done with VMware Workstation 5. Why can't I allocate 8 GB? Where is the problem? In the WMware Player Version, Guest OS or Host OS? How can I solve this? I understand that for this version of player there isn't one version for 32 and another for 64 bits.

• Windows 7: resizing the 'Save As' window

  I do not know whether my question is appropriate for this forum. Apologies if it is not. I am running Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack 1 on a Dell Vostro 460 PC. I am downloading journal articles from the internet and saving them as *.pdf files. Somehow I unintentionally clicked a button that resulted in the 'Save as' window filling the entire screen of my computer, except for the toolbar at the very bottom. How can I resize the 'Save as' window so it only fills perhaps somewhere around 25% of the computer screen, or whatever the default size for that window is? I have searched the internet extensively and found one or two threads about this problem, but no specific solutions were posted there. One suggestion was to grab the bottom of the window with the mouse and scroll upward until the window was the desired size. That does not appear to be possible in my case. Another suggestion was to click on the window with the middle mouse button before attempting to resize the window, but that does not appear to help in my case either. Thank you for any help. If I should post this question in a different forum here please let me know, or kindly migrate the question to the appropriate forum. If additional information is necessary before a solution can be attempted, please let me know that as well.

• How can I get DVDs playing after a Vista to XP change? [closed]

  I replaced my vista install on a Dell Inspiron 1525 with XP and have managed to get most things up and running again however I'm having trouble with playing DVDs. When I try and play a DVD I get the following message: Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card. I have ensured that my drive is configured to play Region 2 discs (I'm in the UK), I've installed the most up to date XP codec pack which makes me think it's a driver issue. In device manager I have got my DVD drivers up to date however under "Other Devices" I'm missing several which sound key: Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus Video Controller Video Controller (VGA Compatible) However I've installed all the relevant drivers I can find on the Dell website. The drive itself is working - I've run software from the drive. I'm afraid I am far from a sys-admin so I'm struggling on this one. How can I get my DVDs playing again?

• Can't capture https traffic with Fiddler and Firefox (works with IE)

  I am trying to debug an asp.net app using Firefox. Firefox tries to connect to https://www.paypal.com and I get "Secure Connection Failed" error (Error code: sec_error_bad_signature). I installed Fiddler's cert in Firefox and the local computer and current user Cert stores. I set up the manual proxy in FF to 127.0.0.1 and port 8888 and for all protocols. Fiddler captures http traffic but gives an error with https traffic. Fiddler captures https from IE fine. What's the problem? (Is FiddlerHook FF extension needed and what setting should it be using: auto, disabled or Force traffic to Fiddler?)

  I'm trying to install said library for use with Python. I tried downloading the executable installer for Windows, which runs, but says it doesn't find a Python installation. Then tried registering (http://effbot.org/zone/python-register.htm) Python, but the script says it can't register (although the keys appear in my register). • C# Open Source/Free Social Networking SDK

  I am currently gathering some technology requirements for a site that will be a social network based. I don't want to re-invent the wheel so i am looking for some type of SDK or collection of tools that can provide me with a way of creating/managing a social network. I understand that no framework will probably fit my exact needs so I am also looking for a flexible/extendable framework. An example extension point would be allowing the user to provide sub networks, maybe a global network that could be sub classified as work and friends. Beyond that it would also be nice to somehow be able to import contacts from other networking sites (Facebook, Linked In, etc). My current technology suite will more than likely consist of the following: IIS 7.0 WCF Data Services SQL Server 2006 ASP.NET front end. So my two questions are 1) C# Open Source Social Network SDK 2) C# Open Source Social Netowrk APIs (facebook, linked in, etc) If there is any more information you may need please let me know.

  I'm deleting several items from a table using Entity Framework. There isn't a foreign key / parent object so I can't handle this with OnDeleteCascade. Right now I'm doing this: var widgets = context.Widgets .Where(w => w.WidgetId == widgetId); foreach (Widget widget in widgets) { context.Widgets.DeleteObject(widget); } context.SaveChanges(); It works but the foreach bugs me. I'm using EF4 but I don't want to execute SQL. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything - this is as good as it gets, right? I can abstract it with an extension method or helper, but somewhere we're still going to be doing a foreach, right?

  I want to write a simple program which shows my internet activity over a period of time (which site I visited, how many times and so on). I mostly use Google Chrome browser. I found out Chrome stores browser history at this location - C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default (please correct me if I'm wrong). How can I open the history files? They don't have any file extension. I could not open using notepad, SQLite browser. How do I access this data programmatically? I want to know which file format it is and how to read it using a programming language like C#.

• Why model => model.Reason_ID turns to model =>Convert(model.Reason_ID)

  I have my own html helper extension, wich I use this way <%=Html.LocalizableLabelFor(model => model.Reason_ID, Register.PurchaseReason) %> which declared like this. public static MvcHtmlString LocalizableLabelFor<T>(this HtmlHelper<T> helper, Expression<Func<T, object>> expr, string captionValue) where T : class { return helper.LocalizableLabelFor(ExpressionHelper.GetExpressionText(expr), captionValue); } but when I open it in debugger expr.Body.ToString() will show me Convert(model.Reason_ID). But should model.Reason_ID. That's a big problem, becouse ExpressionHelper.GetExpressionText(expr) returns empty string. What a strange magic is that? How can I get rid of it?

• Open excel 2007 excel files and save as 97-2003 formats in VBA

  I have a weird situation where I have a set of excel files, all having the extension .xls., in a directory where I can open all of them just fine in Excel 2007. The odd thing is that I cannot open them in Excel 2003, on the same machine, without opening the file first in 2007 and going and saving the file as an "Excel 97-2003 Workbook". Before I save the file as an "Excel 97-2003 Workbook" from Excel 2007, when I open the excel files in 2003 I get the error that the file is not in a recognizable format. So my question is: if I already have the excel file opened in 2007 and I already have the file name of the open file stored in a variable, programatically how can I mimic the action of going up to the "office button" in the upper right and selecting, "save as" and then selecting "Excel 97-2003 Workbook"? I've tried something like the below but it does not save the file at all: ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs TempFilePath & TempFileName & ".xls", FileFormat:=56 Thanks for any help or guidance!

  Following are my Question regarding the LoadingRow event of the Datagrid When will it fires after the Row is bound to the data or after that. As if you debug the Silverlight application then of first execution if you type following code ((System.Windows.Controls.TextBlock)(((System.Windows.Controls.ContentControl)(((DataGridRow)e.Row).Cells[1])).Content)).Text if will return empty string but if your datagrid has scroll (which is in my case , my datagrid has scroll), if you scroll down then the LoadingRow firs again and this time it will return Text on that cell?? why it is not return text on first time and return on second time when i press the scroll bar ??? If I paste above code in the cs file then it will return error 'System.Windows.Controls.DataGridRow' does not contain a definition for 'Cells' and no extension method 'Cells' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Windows.Controls.DataGridRow' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)   Hello guys, First time Map/Reduce user here, and using MongoDB. I have a lot of page visit data which I'd like to make some sense of by using Map/Reduce. Below is basically what I want to do, but as a total beginner a Map/Reduce, I think this is above my knowledge! Find all visits to current page where external = true within the last 30 days (unix timestamp, I deal with the date ranges in PHP and then the array, not mongo date) Group all visits by referral location For each referral location, calculate how many then went to visit a page which has a certain word in the [tags]. I'm using the normal Mongo PHP extension if that has an impact.

• Method 'SingleOrDefault' not supported by Linq to Entities

  I read other posts on similar problem on using SingleOfDefault on Linq-To-Entity, some suggested using "First()" and some others suggested using "Extension" method to implement the Single(). This code throws exception: Movie movie = (from a in movies where a.MovieID == '12345' select a).SingleOrDefault(); If I convert the object query to a List using .ToList(), "SingleOrDefault()" actually works perfectly without throwing any error. My question is: Is it not good to convert to List? Is it going to be performance issue for more complicated queries? What does it get translated in SQL? • How to achieve conditional resource import in a Spring XML context?

  What I would like to achieve is the ability to "dynamically" (i.e. based on a property defined in a configuration file) enable/disable the importing of a child Spring XML context. I imagine something like: <import condition="some.property.name" resource="some-context.xml"/> Where the property is resolved (to a boolean) and when true the context is imported, otherwise it isn't. Some of my research so far: Writing a custom NamespaceHandler (and related classes) so I can register my own custom element in my own namespace. For example: <myns:import condition="some.property.name" resource="some-context.xml"/> The problem with this approach is that I do not want to replicate the entire resource importing logic from Spring and it isn't obvious to me what I need to delegate to to do this. Overriding DefaultBeanDefinitionDocumentReader to extend the behaviour of the "import" element parsing and interpretation (which happens there in the importBeanDefinitionResource method). However I'm not sure where I can register this extension.

• How to get rid of "Uncaught SoapFault exception: [Client] looks like we got no XML document in..." e

  Hello I'm trying to develop business logic for a dynamic site using nusoap on server side (because I need wsdls, and PHP SOAP extension can't generate wsdls), and PHP SOAP extenstion on client side. However, I can't get even login and getRole functions right. When i try to invoke client, I get following message Uncaught SoapFault exception: [Client] looks like we got no XML document in [some paths]... Wsdl does exist on server side, and client does read it (when I put wrong url for wsdl, I get an error). Can anyone help??
