• Textarea to paragraphs

  When I have to render textarea content to the front end I usually pass it thru a function that converts newlines to <br/> tags and double newlines signal paragraph tags so blocks of text get surrounded by <p> and </p> tags. To save time I usually use a ready made PHP function from the wordpress codebase. You can get the link from the man himself: http://ma.tt/scripts/autop/ If you check it out you'll see it does some heavy lifting with about 20 regular expressions. I know I could use a wysiwyg editor (like TinyMCE or CKEditor) that can format the data on the client and then send it to the server (most of them add <p>..</p> tags by default) but I want to know the experience of others in handling raw textarea input and then displaying it on the front end.

  Hi quick question for my MVP implementation: currently I have the code below, in which both the presenter and view are resolved via the container. Then the presenter calls View.Init to pass himself to the view. • weakref list in python

  I'm in need of a list of weak references that deletes items when they die. Currently the only way I have of doing this is to keep flushing the list (removing dead references manually). I'm aware there's a WeakKeyDictionary and a WeakValueDictionary, but I'm really after a WeakList, is there a way of doing this?   I have a WCF service application that uses a component called EnvironmentConfiguration that holds configuration information for my application. I am converting this service so that it can be used by different applications that have different configuration requirements. I want to identify the configuration to use by allowing an additional parameter to be passed to the service call i.e. public void DoSomething(string originalParameter, string callingApplication) What is the recommended way to alter the behaviour of the EnvironmentConfiguration class based on the transient data (callingApplication) without having to pass the callingApplication variable to all the component methods that need configuration information?

  Hi at all guys, hope someone is using Mono & monodevelop... i'm getting the following error when i try to compile an ASP.NET apps ported from vs.net 2008 Error VBNC99999: Unexpected error: The classes in the module cannot be loaded. (VBNC99999) This is the only error i get. I'm using 4 external assembly / dll AjaxControlToolkit.dll FusionCharts.dll MySql.Data.dll PostBackRitalin.dll I've added the dll in bin directory, then i've referenced it. I'm using Mono, because on my "old" computer (acer aspire t2300 buyed in 2007) run with linux & with monodevelop very well. With windows, visual studio is reeeeeeally slow.. so i decide to pass to mono.. Can somenone know something about that error ? Thank you very much. Regards !

What am I doing wrong?

• How to use sessions with django piston auth?

  The problem is that I want to store authentication in a cookie that I can present to django piston rather than requiring user/password to be typed in each time (without hardcoding or storing the user/pass combo somewhere on disk). I was hoping to accomplish this with cookies like someone would without the piston API. Am I missing something? Django Piston doesn't seem to care about session cookies at all? Or can someone suggest a good alternative? Maybe I shouldn't use Piston?

  I am wrapping a number of functions from a vender API in C#. Each of the wrapping functions will fit the pattern: public IEnumerator<IValues> GetAggregateValues(string pointID, DateTime startDate, DateTime endDate, TimeSpan period) { // Validate Data // Break up Requesting Time-Span // Make Requests // Read Results (through another method call } 5 of the 6 requests are aggregate data pulls and have the same signature, so it makes sense to put them in one method and pass the aggregate type to avoid duplication of code. The 6th method however follows the exact same pattern with the same result-set, but is not an aggregate, so no time period is passed to the function (changing the signature). Is there an elegant way to handle this kind of situation without coding a one-off function to handle the non-aggregate request?

  Using a trigger-based approach to audit logging, I am recording the history of changes made to tables in the database. The approach I'm using (with a static sql server login) to record which user made the change involves running a stored procedure at the outset of each database connection. The triggers use this username when recording the audit rows. (The triggers are provided by the product OmniAudit.) However, the ASP.NET Membership tables are accessed primarily through the Membership API. I need to pass in the current user's identity when the Membership API opens its database connection. I tried subclassing MembershipProvider but I cannot access the underlying database connection. It seems like this would be a common problem. Does anyone know of any hooks we can access when the ASP.NET Membership makes its database connection?

  I am trying to work out a way to use Dependency Injection with ASP.NET controls. I have got lots of controls that create repositories directly, and use those to access and bind to data etc. I am looking for a pattern where I can pass repositories to the controls externally (IoC), so my controls remain unaware of how repositories are constructed and where they come from etc. I would prefer not to have a dependency on the IoC container from my controls, therefore I just want to be able to construct the controls with constructor or property injection. (And just to complicate things, these controls are being constructed and placed on the page by a CMS at runtime!) Any thoughts?

If I understood it correctly, every OpenID is defined by a unique URL. But: If I hit the Google button on the Stack Overflow login page, one generic URL is inserted in the text field.   I need to specify a different location for my settings file. After many long hours of searching, I found out that I have to write my own SettingsProvider. I succeeded in creating one which allows me to specify a path for settings file via its constructor. Programatically, I can contruct it like this: var mycustomprovider = new CustomSettingsProvider(path); The problem I am having is that there's no way to invoke my custom provider. I can decorate the VS 2008 generated setting file with the following attribute: [SettingsProvider(typeof(CustomSettingProviders.CustomSettingsProvider))] internal sealed partial class Settings { } However, the attribute doesn't allow me to construct the object with a path. Also, I want to be able to set the SettingsProvider programmatically so that I can pass in any path I want at runtime and save my settings. The examples I've seen on the net have never mentioned how to use a invoke a SettingsProvider programmatically.

  I am testing Java classes with RSpec and JRuby. How can I stub out a call to super in an imported Java class in my RSpec test? For example: I have 2 Java classes: public class A{ public String foo() { return "bar"; } } public class B extends A public String foo() { // B code return super.foo(); } } I am just trying to test the code in B.foo and not the code in A.foo with JRuby. How can I stub out the call to the super class method in my RSpec test? rspec test: java_import Java::B describe B do it "should not call A.foo" do # some code to stub out A.foo b = B.new b.foo.should_not == "bar" end end I have tried including a module with a new foo method in B's class hoping that it would hit the module method first but B still makes a call to A. The inserting module technique works in Ruby but not with JRuby and imported Java classes. Any other ideas to stub out the superclass method to get my RSpec test to pass?

• wheel of fortune collision detection

  Hey, I have a wheel segmented into 8 pie pieces, and a picker that is pointing at the currently selected segment (think wheel of fortune). I want to highlight the currently selected segment, and so have started to use Chipmunk to construct the 8 segments, attached to a rotating body, and then the picker that is put in a position to collide with each of the segments. The trick is, how do you allow the picker to pass over top of the segments, while still getting the collision, but not actually colliding and slowing down the wheel? I haven't started down this path yet, but thought this may solve the problem: removing the colliding segment and then putting it back after the picker has started colliding with another segment a bit away (like two segments away). There may be a much simpler solution not even involving Chipmunk that I haven't thought of. Thanks, Andrew

  I'm running selenium-rc 1.0.3 on a Mac OS X & Windows 7 and both seem to be giving my the annoying accept cert error in firefox. In reading the docs they say I should be able to just use the *firefox run mode and rc should take care of it for me via a proxy or something, but this appears to not work. The only solution that I was able to find on the internet was to create a skeleton profile and pass the path into the rc startup, but thats not a real option. As that doesn't solve problems of testing in IE/Chrome/Safari. Does any know of any other solution that will work. • bypass IIS xml file settings at file/folder level

  Hi, Our site is currently set to pass all files with the xml file extension through the asp.net worker process because all the xml files on the site at the moment are generated dynamically on being hit, by writing the output directly into the response stream. However we now have a requirement to add a file which is much larger and takes several minutes to generate in this way. I wrote a console app to generate the file and set it to run nightly, but because of the global IIS setting directing xml files to run through asp_wp, it's not being served properly. I can't seem to find a way to make an exemption for the treatment of a single file in the IIS settings. Is there any other way we can do it? Cheers, Matt

• PHP MySQLi timeout on locked tables?

  Hi guys I have a weird problem with mysqli timeout options, here you go: I am using mysqli_init() and real_connect() in order to set MYSQLI_OPT_CONNECT_TIMEOUT $this->__mysqli = mysqli_init(); if(!$this->__mysqli->options(MYSQLI_OPT_CONNECT_TIMEOUT,1)) throw new Exception('Timeout settings failed') $this->__mysqli->real_connect(host,user,pass,db); .... Then I am initiating query on locked table (LOCKE TABLE users WRITE) and its just hanging, ignoring all my settings even: set_time_limit(1); ini_set('max_execution_time',1); ini_set('default_socket_timeout',1); ini_set('mysql.connect_timeout',1); I understand why set_time_limit(1) and max_execution_time is ignored but why other timeouts and especially MYSQLI_OPT_CONNECT_TIMEOUT are ignored and how to solve it. I am using PHP 5.3.1 on Windows and Linux boxes, please help.

• Can the Windows Media Player COM control play AVI files from memory (instead of from a file)?

  I have a C# app, and I'm looking at using the Windows Media Player COM control to play animation and audio. So far, the only way I see of programatically controlling what the control is playing is to set its URL property to point to some file (I assume there's some way to pass in a playlist). Is there any way the WMP can render an AVI that is entirely in-memory, like a MemoryStream or something? If so, can WMP skip from one AVI to the next seamlessly (i.e. no glitch in either the audio or the video as it transitions from one to the next)? If WMP only plays files, is there some way to cue up a list of the files in advance of play start? If so, can WMP be made to skip from one file to the next without a brief interruption? Any knowledge or links to knowledge would be much appreciated.

• how to set the background image property of a div to a dynamically generated image

  I have some divs and each one has its own background image. The base images as stored is just a black silhouette. What I would like to do is use the PHP GD package to modify the color of those images somewhat randomly and have the modified randomly coloured images be the background images of the divs. One way to do it is just create GD images structures from the original files, modify them, save the results as a temp file, pass this filename into the client, and then use jquery to modify the css background image properties of the divs to be the new file. But this is going to leave a lot of files laying around to garbage collect. Is there some way to do it without creating a bunch of files?

  I'm using the following code to retrieve emails from my Gmail inbox. def get_mail Net::POP3.enable_ssl(OpenSSL::SSL::VERIFY_NONE) Net::POP3.start('pop.gmail.com', 995, "uname","pass") do |pop| unless pop.mails.empty? pop.each_mail do |mail| email = TMail::Mail.parse(mail.pop) email_obj=EmailedQueries.new email_obj.save_email(email.from,email.subject,email.body_html) end end end end This works just fine, but it retrieves only new mails from the inbox. Instead, I want a seperate function that will retrieve ALL emails from the inbox. This function will be used rarely. I wont be retrieving all mails all the time. Only when necessary. Thanks!
