  I have an UIImageView and I wanted to rotate it slightly in the anti-clock direction. But when I do that, rotation works. But the edges are not shared. Having a pixelated edges. • ORM framework that extends base class with database-implementation.

  I have a game consisting of a client / server + a webpage. A central notion in both client and game-/webserver is an Account. Accounts are stored in a database thus I'm in need of some ORM and recently had a look at Hibernate and Cayenne. My understanding however, is that both frameworks provide an "DatabaseBackedAccount"-class which I extend with my other Account methods. My problem is that the Account class is reused heavily on the client side, and I would obviously not want to include database-related code on the client implementation. My current solution is to have an Account class (shared by server and client) and extend this with a DatabaseBackedAccount (overriding setter-methods and providing a commit method) on the server side. I find this quite natural and nice, however I've had to implement all gory sql-details and ORM myself. Is there any way to "turn the table" in any existing ORM framework, so that the generated classes extend my existing class?

• Red Hat cluster: Failure of one of two services sharing the same virtual IP tears down IP

  I'm creating a 2+1 failover cluster under Red Hat 5.5 with 4 services of which 2 have to run on the same node, sharing the same virtual IP address. One of the services on each node needs a (SAN) disk, the other doesn't. I'm using HA-LVM. When I shut down (via ifdown) the two interfaces connected to the SAN to simulate SAN failure, the service needing the disk is disabled, the other keeps running, as expected. Surprisingly (and unfortunately), the virtual IP address shared by the two services on the same machine is also removed, rendering the still-running service useless. How can I configure the cluster to keep the IP address up?

  Hi, I'm trying to automatically retrieve some email from my GMail account for further parsing, but I can't get my head around on how to do that. I've searched the internets and it suggested that I use PHP's imap functions, like this: $server = '{imap.gmail.com:993/ssl}'; $connection = imap_open($server, '[email protected]', 'password'); But using that code, I get: Warning: imap_open() [function.imap-open]: Couldn't open stream {imap.gmail.com:993/ssl} Any idea what I am doing wrong? Any server setting that might be preventing me from making a connection to GMail (I'm using a shared service)? Is the address even right? Has anyone ever managed to do something like this? I've found tons of examples on how to send email via GMail, but very little of retrieving. Any help is much appreciated.

  Imagine because of tradition that your team's preferred development method involved several people with a shared login, editing files on a build server using vim. [Note that there are well known issues to do with only one person being able to edit a file at once, people going away from their desk and leaving the file locked in vim, system builds/restarts requiring everybody to stop debugging while this occurs. This is not what the question is about] If source control was to be introduced without changing the workflow, would there be much benefit? I am guessing that the commit history won't be much use as it will contain all changes by everybody in big lumps. So it wouldn't really be possible to rewind individual changes apart from at a really big level.

  Hello, Simple lua game with simple class like so: creature = class({ name = "MONSTER BADDY!", stats = { power = 10, agility = 10, endurance = 10, filters = {} }, other_things = ... }) creatureA = creature.new() creatureB = creature.new() creatureA.name = "Frank" creatureB.name = "Zappa" creatureA.stats.agility = 20 creatureB.stats.power = 12 -- blah blah blah Non table values are individual to each instance, but table values are shared among all instances and if I modify a stats.X value in one instance, all other instances see the same stats table. Q1: Is my OO implementation flawed? I tried LOOP and the same result occured, is there a fundamental flaw in my logic? Q2: How would you have each instance of creature have it's own stats table (and sub tables)? PS. I cannot flatten my class table as it's a bit more complicated than the example and other parts of the code are simplified with this nested table implementation. Thanks a bunch.

• Hosting Javascript/CSS file on CDN similar to Google hosting jQuery

  Hello, I am wondering if there are any hosts or if I can host my file (JS & CSS) on Google so that they are cached and load real quick (due to CDN and gzip). A number of my customers use these files and I would prefer if they could somehow include this to file to receive the JS file. Ideally with filename.js?publickey=sdfgsdfg (which will be tied to a particular domain name). The problem is that my hosting needs are very small- only about 100kb. Any suggestions. My problem is that the customers using the JS & CSS file, have no clue about gzipping content or caching (as their shared hosts do not support it), as a result causes the JS/CSS to take forever to load. Am wondering if I can leverage an existing free service, or I do not mind paying either. Thank you for your time.

• Differences between WPF Custom Control Library and plain Class Library?

  I posted a question a few months ago about sharing resource dictionaries across assemblies. It turns out you can do that using the Component Resource Key markup extension. At the time, I could only get it working with a WPF Custom Control project, not with a plain Class Library project. Now I need to use an existing plain Class Library project to host a shared resource dictionary. That means I need to retrofit the Class Library project to support the Component Resource Key markup extension. I have added a Themes folder and a Generic.xaml resource dictionary document to the Class Library project, as well as references to PresentationCore, PresentationFramework, and WindowsBase. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to do the trick. So, here is my question: Other than the above, what does a WPF Custom Control Library project have that a plain Class Library project doesn't? Or, to put it another way, what else could I add to my class library project to get this feature working? Thanks.

  When building ASP.NET projects there is a certain amount of boilerplate, or plumbing that needs to be done, which is often identical across projects. This is especially the case with MVC and ALT.NET approaches. [I'm thinking of things such as: IoC, ORM, Solution structure (projects), Session Management, User Management, I18n etc.] I would like to know what approach you find best for 'reusing' this plumbing accross projects? Have a 'master solution' which you duplicate and rename somehow? (I'm using a this to a degree at the moment, but it's fairly messy. Would be interested how people do this 'better') Mainly rely on Shared Library projects? (I find this appropriate for some things, but too restrictive for things that have to be customised) Code generation tools, such as T4? • Portable way to determining of printer is physical or virtual

  I need direct-to-printer functionality for my website, with the ability to distinguish a physical printer from a virtual printer (file). Coupons.com has this functionality via a native binary which must be installed by the user. I'd prefer to avoid that. SmartSource.com does it via Java applet: Does anybody know how this is done? I dug through that Java APIs a bit, and don't see anything that would let you determine physical vs virtual, except looking at the name (that seems prone to misidentification). It would be nice to be able to do it in Java, because I already know how to write Java applets. Failing that, is there a way to do this in Flash or Silverlight? Thanks in advance.   Hi there, I'm trying to use the PHP exec() or system() (or any other similar function) to run a batch file, but I can't seem to get these to return anything. The simplest example I've seen is this, which outputs nothing: <?php echo system('dir'); ?> The script is running on a windows XP machine on IIS with PHP installed and I've also tried it on my shared hosting account running windows 2003 server/IIS. • Is there an easy way to make `boost::ptr_vector` more debugger friendly in Visual Studio?

  I'm considering using boost::ptr_container as a result of the responses from this question. My biggest problem with the library is that I cannot view the contents of the collection in the debugger, because the MSVC debugger doesn't recognize it, and therefore I cannot see the contents of the containers. (All the data gets stored as void * internally) I've heard MSVC has a feature called "debugger visualizers" which would allow the user to make the debugger smarter about these kinds of things, but I've never written anything like this, and I'm not hugely firmiliar with such things. For example, compare the behavior of boost::shared_ptr with MSVC's own std::tr1::shared_ptr. In the debugger (i.e. in the Watch window), the boost version shows up as a big mess of internal variables used for implementing the shared pointer, but the MSVC version shows up as a plain pointer to the object (and the shared_ptr's innards are hidden). How can I get started either using or implementing such a thing?

  Hi all I want to create an upload form to upload large files. Thats pretty much easy, however, the upload process itself taks long and basically looks like nothing is happening for a few minutes. So now I'd like to insert a progress bar to show the user that something is happening and they should just sit tight. I've read of numerous methods like APC and certian flash plugins, but my site is hosted on a shared server and I cant install any new applications on it. I'm thinking, maybe if it is possible to read the size of the temp file it creates via an ajax page. By polling the size every few seconds I should be able to get the progress of the upload. Now the question I pose is...where is the temp file situated?

• CentOS: revert python version back to original

  Hi all, I installed python 2.6 using the instructions here on CentOS 5.4. However I realized it was a bad move and I need to revert back to 2.4, which was there originally. Can anyone guide me on how to undo what I did here? • Record locking problem between linux and Windows

  I need to run a bunch of old DOS FoxPro / Clipper applications in linux under DOSEMU. The programs access their "databases" located on a network server (could be a Windows or Linux server) Actually, the programs ran fine, but I cannot manage to make the record locking work as supposed: I can run a program in two terminals (or the server and any terminal for instance) and lock the same record in both. Now, I'm using Tiny Core Linux as terminal and Windows XP as server, accesing the shared files via CIFS and the latest DOSEMU (1.4.0), but I tried with various combinations of server (Ubuntu 7 to 9, Damn Small Linux, XP) <- protocol (CIFS, samba, various versions of smbclient) <- client (same as server) with no luck I tried to configure the server part to work without oplocks in samba (after reading the entire O'Reilly Samba book locking chapter in http://oreilly.com/catalog/samba/chapter/book/ch05_05.html ) and in XP (\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\UseOpportunisticLocking = 0) but the problem persist.   Hi all: I am working on a script, that needs to be run in many different SQL servers. Some of them, shared the same structure, in other words, they are identical, but the filegroups and the DB names are different. This is because is one per client. Anyway, I would like when running a script, If I chose the wrong DB, it should not be executed. I am trying to mantain a clean DB. here is my example, which only works for dropping a view if exists, but does not work for creating a new one. I also wonder how it would be for creating a stored procedure.   Hi All, I am new to web services. I have a requirement in my project. I have to consume the web services of our vendor in my project. All he has shared with me is a WSDL file and a document about the description of the the different operations. Question:- 1: What do I need to do consume these web services in my java project? I have been advised to use axis2, eclipse with tomcat6. 2: Do I need to ask for some other files/information from WS vendor OR wsdl file is enough to consume these web services? 3: Do I need to write a java WS client (using axis2 plugin) or another webservice which will talk to vendor web service? Please suggest the best possible way. I am sorry if the question sounds like a naive..
