However the problem is is that when this happens there are no collisions actually happening and I would really love to find out where the flaw is in the code.   On a Windows 7 computer, running chkdsk /r /f C: in repair mode, it gives the error, Unspecified error 766f6c756d652e63 3f1. or something like that. I have tried the following: uninstalling all antivirus software scanning with MalwareByte's Anti-Malware doing a Disk Cleanup running Disk Defrag booting TRK and running fsck -t ntfs (gives error Unsupported case. and not implemented). I have also tried a System Restore, but there is a Temporary Internet file that appears to be in all restore points, and that file must be corrupted or something, because System Restore always grinds to a halt when it gets to that file. • Annotate pdfs in Firefox on mac-os

  I have several pdfs stored locally. I have file:/// links to these pdfs in my local TiddlyWiki. When I open one of these, Firefox opens it inline, as expected. Now I want to add annotations to these pdfs as I read them. Since I have not found a way to do this when viewing them inline, I used the open in Preview feature in the context menu. This works fine, but when I want to save, Preview complains that the document is locked. It appears Firefox creates a temporary copy that it gives to preview to open, instead of the real thing. Is there any way to work around this? I want to either be able to save the annotated files from preview or to do the annotations directly in Firefox. I am using Snow-Leopard with Firefox 3.6. Edit I can annotate the pdf just fine when I open them in preview directly.

• Firefox 4, 5 hang on Windows XP

  I've been having a lot of trouble with Firefox 4 and 5 hanging on my Windows XP machine. I've often found a temporary solution of uninstalling and reinstalling. Recently I deleted my Firefox profile to get a clean start. But nothing seems a reliable solution. The only plugin that I have is Firebug. My machine is a bit low on RAM, with only 2 GB. Am I missing something? Any troubleshooting steps that you would recommend? I've come to expect Firefox to be very stable, and that has not at all been my experience lately.

  This problem is driving me nuts. CS0016: Could not write to output file 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework<64\vX.X.XXXX\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root\XXXXXX\XXXXXX\App_Web_XXXX.aspx.XXXXXXXX.XXXXXXXX.dll' -- 'The directory name is invalid. ' Tried to give full access to network service on C:\windows\temp and the temp folder in v4.0.xxx folder. Been searching hi and low online but no one has the right answer for this. Server is Windows Server 2008r2, SQL Server 2008r2 is installed on the same server. I believe that it could have something to do with SQL Server being installed after the .NET Framework 4.0 was installed, but I did a aspnet_regiis.exe -u and then -i to reinstall. Tried from both Framework folder and Framework64 folder, still no luck Anybody outthere with the same problem? Thanks in advance, Christian

• Problem using psexec to remotely GAC a file

  As part of a deployment process I am trying to GAC a series of files. The actual build process occurs on a build server, and I am trying to use psexec to GAC the files on whichever machine has requested the build. The current line I am trying to execute is: C:\PsToolspsexec.exe \COMPUTER -u USER -p PASS gacutil.exe -i Assembly.dll -f The error that I am getting back is: Failure adding assembly to the cache: The system cannot find the file specified. So apparently the dll reference is on the remote box, and unfortunately the dll is sitting on the build box. Is there any way to just do this with psexec somehow, or do I need to copy it to some temporary location on the \\COMPUTER? I know there are commands to copy the executable as part of the psexec process, but I can't seem to find anything similar for supporting files.

• Server 2003 on domain wont let domain user have local profile

  I have a few servers that are acting in this behavior, you log in and always get put into a temporary profile. The server is licensed for TS. The user I am testing with has local admin rights so it doesn't seem to be a permission issue on the server. I'll first get a message that the users roaming profile cannot be found, even though we dont use roaming profiles. I then get another message immediately after saying a local profile could not be loaded, so it will only use a temp profile. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• GET /wpad.dat entries flooding my access_log

  I have a small LAN of some 30 users in it with proxy auto configuration enabled and working. Two of them are requesting wpad.dat file too rapidly at a pace of 30 times per second. 10.1.14.246 - - [02/Jun/2014:09:07:18 +0200] "GET /wpad.dat HTTP/1.1" 302 302 10.1.14.141 - - [02/Jun/2014:09:07:18 +0200] "GET /wpad.dat HTTP/1.1" 302 302 I don't know whether this is a problem from performance perspective, (the server is powerful enough to handle this) but the problem is it clogs up the access_log file. It grows about 1GB per week. Clients run Win7Pro. What could cause this behavior? What can be done to stop it? I have shortened log rotate window as a temporary workaround to prevent /var fill up. • Redirect as a backup trick? w/o modifying DNS?

  I specifically looked up how to do something like this ( Can you set a backup ip for your server in DNS? ) and the answer basically was you can't. If i say specify 2 ip addresses could i somehow use a HTTP response header to ignore it temporary (say 5mins) and go to the other IP address? Or maybe i can play dead however i'm unsure how to play dead using nginx. I then would like to be available after my box notice the other box is down and be some kind of readonly server. I'm sure something like this has been implemented i am just wondering how i might implement it with 2 boxes. I'm sure it isn't very difficult? How might i redirect traffic from a backup box to my main server without modifying the DNS?

• Can you authenticate into SSAS with AD LDS (ADAM) accounts?

  I'm very new to AD LDS and experienced but not qualified with SSAS, so my apologies for my ignorances with these. We have a couple implementations where we expose SSAS via an HTTPS proxy (msmdpump.dll) and currently we have a temporary domain setup handling this (where our end-users have a second account+creds to manage because of this = non-ideal). I want to move us towards a more permanent solution which I'm thinking of moving all authentication to AD LDS for our web apps, SSAS, and others. However, SSAS is where I'm concerned about this. I know SSAS requires Windows Authentication and to play nicely, and that this ultimately means Active Directory will be involved. Is there a way to get this done with AD LDS instead of having to use a full AD DS implementation? If so, how? (Note: My question over at StackOverflow had a suggestion that I post this question here on ServerFault instead. My apologies if I'm not asking in the right forum.)

• Accidentally Removed Permissions for the XP SP3 Registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT! Workaround Please!

  This is Praveen and I am using Microsoft Windows XP SP3 Build 2600. I had problems with using Microsoft Office 2010. It was keeping on saying, "Please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010". After seeing this link: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/outlookcontact/thread/6e9c3f2e-010a-4b74-b433-0c41548ee468?prof=required I thought of giving the Registry Key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, full access permissions for Everyone. I went to the registry, right-clicked on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and clicked on Permissions. I added Everyone and gave Full Control to the ACL and clicked on Apply. Also I checked "Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects." After a long time, it said with an error, cannot replace for few entries. Now, the key, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT has no access to any user. My system is not starting up. Some of my friends asked me to try the Last Known Good Configuration. Even that did not work out. When I tried to open in the Safe Mode, I got only one driver to load and even that didn't load well. Another friend suggested me to put the Setup disk and reinstall the OS. I tried that and after completing the "Installing Device Drivers" part, when it started "Installing Network", the system is getting restarted. Now, the setup is also half way through and even if I open in Safe Mode to try System Restore, it popped up a message saying, "Setup cannot run under Safe Mode. Setup will restart now." and the system is restarting. All my official files and my software, which I developed for Registry Security, resides in my system now. I am unable to access the system and I want it to be working to submit the project, as the deadline is this week. I had no better solutions from elsewhere. Can anyone please help me out with this issue. If it is possible to open the registry editor's stored file from another system and restore the access permissions, I hope it would solve the problem. • Reverse proxy with SSL and IP passthrough?

  Turns out that the IP of a much-needed new website is blocked from inside our organization's network for reasons that will take weeks to fix. In the meantime, could we set up a reverse proxy on an Internet-based server which will forward SSL traffic and perhaps client IPs to the external site? Load will be light. No need to terminate SSL on the proxy. We may be able to poison DNS so original URL can work. How do I learn if I need URL rewriting? Squid/apache/nginx/something else? Setup would be fastest on Win 2000, but other OSes are OK if that would help. Simple and quick are good since it's a temporary solution. Thanks for your thoughts!

• Late 2008 Unibody MacBook Pro, Snow Leopard EFI 1.8 downgrade

  Question: Does anyone know of an EFI downgrade for user on 1.8? I have found a 1.7 to 1.6 downgrade, but once on 1.8 this downgrade no longer works. Background: After upgrading to Snow Leopard, and installing the EFI 1.8 update (as recommended by Software Update), I have lost the ability to burn discs. This also includes when using external burners and when booting into Vista using Bootcamp. Other seemingly related problems to the EFI I have are, chronic overheating, random temporary beachball lockups, longer boot times. These 'other' problems have been solved for other users who experienced these problems on EFI 1.7, but were able to rollback to 1.6. I am looking for a solution that does not require sending my computer back to Apple.

• Disable Java Plugin in Google Chrome?

  This is the second time I've had a drive-by executable installed on my machine using the following: Google Chrome 6 (latest) Windows 7, UAC on This happened while I was browsing for images to add to a gaming.se post; one of the sites I visited (to get an image of a transfer cable) must have had drive-by browser exploit code running. UAC alerted me that a weird temporary executable wanted to run, and I declined, but I still got the fake antivirus executable running on my machine. Sigh.. I do have Java installed because I upload stuff monthly to clearbits.net and their uploader is a Java plugin. So my best guess is, websites are doing drive-by installs using the massive numbers of zero-day vulnerabilities in the Java browser plugins. For now, I have uninstalled Java, which works. But I wondered if I could disable the Java plugin in Google Chrome instead. So, how do you disable these vulnerable plugins in Google Chrome? I can't find the UI.

  I'm running nginx 1.3.5 under windows seven, I need to execute nginx directly from a read-only media (CD or DVD), but when I want to run it, it fails with this error: nginx: [alert] could not open error log file: CreateFile() "logs/error.log" fail ed (5: Access is denied) 2012/08/28 13:52:46 [emerg] 5604#2864: CreateDirectory() "J:\nginx-1.3.5/temp/client_body_temp" failed (5: Access is denied) where J is my CD-ROM drive letter. I've changed nginx.conf to disable logging completely, but seems anyway it still tries to build a file named 'error.log' in '/logs' folder & some extra temporary contents in '/temp' folder at the startup, so I want to change 'logs' & 'temp' directory path to windows temp folder (%temp%), but I dont have any idea that how can I do it. Also I want to know why nginx still creates 'logs/error.log' after disableing error logging ?
