  • Change function into dependencyproperty

    - by Jaya Willianto
Hi everyone.. I am new to XAML and WPF and I am learning about DependencyProperty and Path. For example, I have a function like this public byte[] DownloadPicture() { WebClient webClient = new WebClient(); byte[] data; data = webClient.DownloadData("https://graph.facebook.com/4/picture&type=large"); return data; } and I have dependencyproperty like this public static DependencyProperty DownloadPicProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("DownloadPic", typeof(byte), typeof(ImageControl), new PropertyMetadata(false)); How can I connect the DependencyProperty with the DownloadPicture function I wrote? Any suggestions? What should I write in the CLR wrapper?

  • Silverlight debugging, no list element view

    - by Snake
When I'm debugging my Silverlight Appliction and I'm using a list internally I cannot hover over the list and see the items inside the list. I just see the RAW view of the list. If I want to see the items I have to write my own code which is tedious. Is this something normal to Silverlight? I DO have the correct list view when debugging in normal Console/WPF/... applications. Example: Silverlight: (link: click) See how there is no 'list view in the first example? And there in this one: And for non Silverlight: (link: click)

  • What advantages does Windows Embedded Enterprise give you?

    - by Max Schmeling
My company has built a machine that measures wedge and roundness of lenses by reading and interacting with very precise indicators, motors, and a switch panel. The interface for the machine is a WPF application and it runs on Windows Vista on a normal PC bought from the store. I've never worked with Windows Embedded, but it sounds to me like it's intended for this type of system. My question is, what does it buy me? If I were to run this on Windows Embedded Enterprise (Vista) what benefits do I get? Do I get more control of the load, login, and all that? Can I make it more seamless where it doesn't really feel just like a normal application running full screen? Is it something I should look into more?

  • Data Validation for Random varying Phone Numbers

    - by baron
I am storing phone numbers of varying lengths in my WPF (C#, VS 08) App. I store them as strings. My question is about my method AddNewPhoneNo(string phoneNo). In this method, I use Int.TryParse to validate the incoming number (i.e. not null, is numeric...). I've since realized this is probably not the best way to do this, because then I am limited to a number which is ± 2147483647. Definetly this is not always the case with phone numbers. What is a good, easy way to validate phone numbers? I guess the basic rules would be as follows: All numeric All positive Upto 25 chars (could be more, but this will to do for time being) Can't thing if theres any more rules at the moment, that's probably it.

  • Design best practice - best way to handle user selection

    - by user1457227
I'm an experienced developer (WPF) moving over to Android development. My question: an app I am developing allows the user to browse their local storage (such as SDCARD) and select a file. Now, should I simply create a new Activity (after the user has made a selection) to handle what I want to have the app do with that chosen file, -or- is the better approach to pass the path/name of the selected file back to the main Activity and let IT launch the next Activity? In other words, is the better practice to have the main Activity launch other (support) activities, or is it perfectly ok and normal to have one activity chain to another and on and on? Thanks!

  • Where to find .NET version usage statistics?

    - by Mash
There are some technologies like LINQ and WPF which are nice, but installation of .NET 3.5 is still slow procedure. It's important to understand - among Windows users how many of them have .NET 3.5 installed? Is there any good up to date stats gathered about .NET Version availability/usage? I've searched a lot, but can't find. Update: .NET version IS present in web-agent strings for FF and IE at least. So there SHOULD be somebody who have that information. Anyone with access to really large web-site logs? Update 2: I also understand Vista means that user have 3.5, but XP is still dominating the market.

  • What's this UI pattern called?

    - by Bears will eat you
I'm trying to figure out what this sort of thing is called, and eventually how I can create one in a web browser. It looks like this (screenshot of the first app that came to mind): The specific component/pattern I'm looking for is the two list boxes ("Included Gear" and "Excluded Gear") that represent inclusion/exclusion of items from a set. I'm not really looking for the WPF name (if there is one) but it might be helpful. I am looking for the name of this thingy, if there is one, and if you really want to make my day, you can point me toward a jQuery or YUI way of making one of these dealies in a browser. In case you were wondering, the screenshot is a World of Warcraft gear optimization program. Go figure why it was the first program that came to mind when I was trying to think of an example.

Application: Create Mandelbrot Image (GUI) My disptacher works perfektly this this case: private void progressBarRefresh(){ while ((con.Progress) < 99) { progressBar1.Dispatcher.Invoke(DispatcherPriority.Send, new Action(delegate { progressBar1.Value = con.Progress; } )); } } I get the Message (Title) when tring to do this with the below code: bmp = BitmapSource.Create(width, height, 96, 96, pf, null, rawImage, stride); this.Dispatcher.Invoke(DispatcherPriority.Send, new Action(delegate { img.Source = bmp; ViewBox.Child = img; //vllt am schluss } )); I will try to explain how my program works. I created a new Thread (because GUI dont response) for the calculation of the pixels and the colors. In this Thread(Mehtod) I´m using the Dispatcher to Refresh my Image in the ViewBox after the calculations are ready. • Secrets of delivering .NET size large products?

    - by Joan Venge
In software companies I have seen it's really hard to work on very large products where everything depends on everything else. For instance Microsoft works on C#, F#, .NET, WPF, Visual Studio where these things are interconnected. I don't know how many people are involved, but if it's in 100s, how do they keep in sync with everything, so they design and implement features without conflicting with other dependencies and future plans of other products? I am wondering that if MS is able to do this, they must have a very good system. Any guidelines or secrets for MS or non-MS very large software product delivering?

  • For what purposes have YOU used T4?

    - by Chris Melinn
T4 has existed for several years in Visual Studio, but doesn't get a lot of attention. However, for those that know it, there seems to be some very creative and useful purposes. I am researching some different ways that T4 is used, and I would appreciate to hear how YOU may have used it for real life scenarios. I am primarily interested in non-standard and creative uses. Some interesting examples: Phil Haack uses T4 to create static CSS files from .less To Generate WPF and Silverlight Dependency Properties using T4 Templates Note: I realize this is a discussion-oriented question, but the answers could be helpful to others. I have tagged it as subjective and also marked as "community wiki", so please allow the question to remain open. Thanks!

  • Simple Communication between 2 instances of application

    - by KyleGobel
    I have a WPF application that can take a few optional command line arguments. This application is also a single instance application (using a mutex to close any instances if one is already open). What I want for it to do though, is if something tries to open the application with some cmd line args, that the application will do what it's suppose to do with those (in my application it opens different dialogs based on the cmd line). What is the easiest way to achieve this? In psedo code here is what i'm looking for protected override void OnStartup(StartupEventArgs e) { bool mutexIsNew; using (System.Threading.Mutex m = new System.Threading.Mutex(true, "MyApplication", out mutexIsNew)) { //if this is not the first instance of the app if (!mutexIsNew) { //if there is some cmd line args if (e.Args.Length > 0) { //send the args to the older instance so it can handle them SendToOtherInstance(e.Args); //shutdown this new instance Application.Current.Shutdown(); } } } base.OnStartup(e); }

  • [ADVICE] .NET Desktop Application - Client Server C#, SQL

    - by Rillanon
Hi guys, Recently I've being given a chance to develop a PMS (Practice Management System) software for a small physiotherapy clinic. I'm a computer science student and my course is predominately told on Linux. However, my client runs all their computers on vista or Windows 7. My ideas are to develop the client front end in Visual C# and access a central postgresql server. I'm a beginner in Windows Programming so I'm after advice on best practice on implement user rights and access levels in C# (WPF or Windows FORM). I've had a look into Credential class in Visual C# and access control list but please share your thoughts. I'm probably way over my head on this but this is my first commercial project so I'm keen to test the waters. Cheers Ian

  • How to know when a user console is locked or has logged "back into" windows

    - by Paul Kohler
This is in regards to applications that run in the taskbar but should be applicable to standard apps, Winforms, WPF, etc. Question: I am after some method (preferably via managed code) to be notified when a user either has their screen "locked" while my app is running and/or know when they log back in. GMail Notifier does this sort of thing for example, if my PC is locked for a while when I log in again it shows a list of emails that arrived since locking the PC. I'm looking to replicate that kind of functionality. Does anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this?

  • Know of any open source projects written in C#, that don’t use any other .Net related technologies

    - by AspOnMyNet
Do you know of any open source code that would go beyond the basic exercises (aka demonstrations of how particular C# construct works), thus a C# code that would have some real world value? I did read similar threads ( http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1391909/as-a-net-beginner-what-should-i-learn-and-where-can-i-find-open-source-projects ) and the sites suggested (like http://www.codeplex.com and http://sourceforge.net), but all the apps I’ve found there are built using C# in conjunction with other technologies ( such as WinForms, Asp.Net, WCF, WPF, F#,Javascript ), while at the moment all I know is C#, a bit of Html and a bit of Ado.Net. I do plan to learn these technologies also, but that could take months while I’d like to create some useful C# apps right now. thanx

  • Cleaner HTML Markup with ASP.NET 4 Web Forms - Client IDs (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

    - by ScottGu
This is the sixteenth in a series of blog posts I’m doing on the upcoming VS 2010 and .NET 4 release. Today’s post is the first of a few blog posts I’ll be doing that talk about some of the important changes we’ve made to make Web Forms in ASP.NET 4 generate clean, standards-compliant, CSS-friendly markup.  Today I’ll cover the work we are doing to provide better control over the “ID” attributes rendered by server controls to the client. [In addition to blogging, I am also now using Twitter for quick updates and to share links. Follow me at: twitter.com/scottgu] Clean, Standards-Based, CSS-Friendly Markup One of the common complaints developers have often had with ASP.NET Web Forms is that when using server controls they don’t have the ability to easily generate clean, CSS-friendly output and markup.  Some of the specific complaints with previous ASP.NET releases include: Auto-generated ID attributes within HTML make it hard to write JavaScript and style with CSS Use of tables instead of semantic markup for certain controls (in particular the asp:menu control) make styling ugly Some controls render inline style properties even if no style property on the control has been set ViewState can often be bigger than ideal ASP.NET 4 provides better support for building standards-compliant pages out of the box.  The built-in <asp:> server controls with ASP.NET 4 now generate cleaner markup and support CSS styling – and help address all of the above issues.  Markup Compatibility When Upgrading Existing ASP.NET Web Forms Applications A common question people often ask when hearing about the cleaner markup coming with ASP.NET 4 is “Great - but what about my existing applications?  Will these changes/improvements break things when I upgrade?” To help ensure that we don’t break assumptions around markup and styling with existing ASP.NET Web Forms applications, we’ve enabled a configuration flag – controlRenderingCompatbilityVersion – within web.config that let’s you decide if you want to use the new cleaner markup approach that is the default with new ASP.NET 4 applications, or for compatibility reasons render the same markup that previous versions of ASP.NET used:   When the controlRenderingCompatbilityVersion flag is set to “3.5” your application and server controls will by default render output using the same markup generation used with VS 2008 and .NET 3.5.  When the controlRenderingCompatbilityVersion flag is set to “4.0” your application and server controls will strictly adhere to the XHTML 1.1 specification, have cleaner client IDs, render with semantic correctness in mind, and have extraneous inline styles removed. This flag defaults to 4.0 for all new ASP.NET Web Forms applications built using ASP.NET 4. Any previous application that is upgraded using VS 2010 will have the controlRenderingCompatbilityVersion flag automatically set to 3.5 by the upgrade wizard to ensure backwards compatibility.  You can then optionally change it (either at the application level, or scope it within the web.config file to be on a per page or directory level) if you move your pages to use CSS and take advantage of the new markup rendering. Today’s Cleaner Markup Topic: Client IDs The ability to have clean, predictable, ID attributes on rendered HTML elements is something developers have long asked for with Web Forms (ID values like “ctl00_ContentPlaceholder1_ListView1_ctrl0_Label1” are not very popular).  Having control over the ID values rendered helps make it much easier to write client-side JavaScript against the output, makes it easier to style elements using CSS, and on large pages can help reduce the overall size of the markup generated. New ClientIDMode Property on Controls ASP.NET 4 supports a new ClientIDMode property on the Control base class.  The ClientIDMode property indicates how controls should generate client ID values when they render.  The ClientIDMode property supports four possible values: AutoID—Renders the output as in .NET 3.5 (auto-generated IDs which will still render prefixes like ctrl00 for compatibility) Predictable (Default)— Trims any “ctl00” ID string and if a list/container control concatenates child ids (example: id=”ParentControl_ChildControl”) Static—Hands over full ID naming control to the developer – whatever they set as the ID of the control is what is rendered (example: id=”JustMyId”) Inherit—Tells the control to defer to the naming behavior mode of the parent container control The ClientIDMode property can be set directly on individual controls (or within container controls – in which case the controls within them will by default inherit the setting): Or it can be specified at a page or usercontrol level (using the <%@ Page %> or <%@ Control %> directives) – in which case controls within the pages/usercontrols inherit the setting (and can optionally override it): Or it can be set within the web.config file of an application – in which case pages within the application inherit the setting (and can optionally override it): This gives you the flexibility to customize/override the naming behavior however you want. Example: Using the ClientIDMode property to control the IDs of Non-List Controls Let’s take a look at how we can use the new ClientIDMode property to control the rendering of “ID” elements within a page.  To help illustrate this we can create a simple page called “SingleControlExample.aspx” that is based on a master-page called “Site.Master”, and which has a single <asp:label> control with an ID of “Message” that is contained with an <asp:content> container control called “MainContent”: Within our code-behind we’ll then add some simple code like below to dynamically populate the Label’s Text property at runtime:   If we were running this application using ASP.NET 3.5 (or had our ASP.NET 4 application configured to run using 3.5 rendering or ClientIDMode=AutoID), then the generated markup sent down to the client would look like below: This ID is unique (which is good) – but rather ugly because of the “ct100” prefix (which is bad). Markup Rendering when using ASP.NET 4 and the ClientIDMode is set to “Predictable” With ASP.NET 4, server controls by default now render their ID’s using ClientIDMode=”Predictable”.  This helps ensure that ID values are still unique and don’t conflict on a page, but at the same time it makes the IDs less verbose and more predictable.  This means that the generated markup of our <asp:label> control above will by default now look like below with ASP.NET 4: Notice that the “ct100” prefix is gone. Because the “Message” control is embedded within a “MainContent” container control, by default it’s ID will be prefixed “MainContent_Message” to avoid potential collisions with other controls elsewhere within the page. Markup Rendering when using ASP.NET 4 and the ClientIDMode is set to “Static” Sometimes you don’t want your ID values to be nested hierarchically, though, and instead just want the ID rendered to be whatever value you set it as.  To enable this you can now use ClientIDMode=static, in which case the ID rendered will be exactly the same as what you set it on the server-side on your control.  This will cause the below markup to be rendered with ASP.NET 4: This option now gives you the ability to completely control the client ID values sent down by controls. Example: Using the ClientIDMode property to control the IDs of Data-Bound List Controls Data-bound list/grid controls have historically been the hardest to use/style when it comes to working with Web Form’s automatically generated IDs.  Let’s now take a look at a scenario where we’ll customize the ID’s rendered using a ListView control with ASP.NET 4. The code snippet below is an example of a ListView control that displays the contents of a data-bound collection — in this case, airports: We can then write code like below within our code-behind to dynamically databind a list of airports to the ListView above: At runtime this will then by default generate a <ul> list of airports like below.  Note that because the <ul> and <li> elements in the ListView’s template are not server controls, no IDs are rendered in our markup: Adding Client ID’s to Each Row Item Now, let’s say that we wanted to add client-ID’s to the output so that we can programmatically access each <li> via JavaScript.  We want these ID’s to be unique, predictable, and identifiable. A first approach would be to mark each <li> element within the template as being a server control (by giving it a runat=server attribute) and by giving each one an id of “airport”: By default ASP.NET 4 will now render clean IDs like below (no ctl001-like ids are rendered):   Using the ClientIDRowSuffix Property Our template above now generates unique ID’s for each <li> element – but if we are going to access them programmatically on the client using JavaScript we might want to instead have the ID’s contain the airport code within them to make them easier to reference.  The good news is that we can easily do this by taking advantage of the new ClientIDRowSuffix property on databound controls in ASP.NET 4 to better control the ID’s of our individual row elements. To do this, we’ll set the ClientIDRowSuffix property to “Code” on our ListView control.  This tells the ListView to use the databound “Code” property from our Airport class when generating the ID: And now instead of having row suffixes like “1”, “2”, and “3”, we’ll instead have the Airport.Code value embedded within the IDs (e.g: _CLE, _CAK, _PDX, etc): You can use this ClientIDRowSuffix approach with other databound controls like the GridView as well. It is useful anytime you want to program row elements on the client – and use clean/identified IDs to easily reference them from JavaScript code. Summary ASP.NET 4 enables you to generate much cleaner HTML markup from server controls and from within your Web Forms applications.  In today’s post I covered how you can now easily control the client ID values that are rendered by server controls.  In upcoming posts I’ll cover some of the other markup improvements that are also coming with the ASP.NET 4 release. Hope this helps, Scott

  • Using dispatchertimer in combination with an asynchroneous call

    - by Civelle
Hi. We have an issue in our Silverlight application which uses WCF and Entity Framework, where we need to trap the event whenever a user shuts down the application by closing the web page or the browser instead of closing the silverlight application. This is in order to verify if any changes have been made, in which case we would ask the user if he wants to save before leaving. We were able to accomplish the part which consists in trapping the closing of the web page: we wrote some code in the application object that have the web page call a method in the silverlight application object. The problem starts when in this method, we do an asynchroneous call to the Web Service to verify if changes have occured (IsDirty). We are using a DispatcherTimer to check for the return of the asynchroneous call. The problem is that the asynchroneous call never completes (in debug mode, it never ends up stepping into the _BfrServ_Customer_IsDirtyCompleted method), while it used to work fine before we added this new functionality. You will find belowthe code we are using. I am new to writing timers in combination with asynchroneous call so I may be doing something wrong but I cannot figure out what. I tried other things also but we without any success.. ====================== CODE ============================================== 'Code in the application object Public Sub New() InitializeComponent() RegisterOnBeforeUnload() _DispatcherTimer.Interval = New TimeSpan(0, 0, 0, 0, 500) End Sub Public Sub RegisterOnBeforeUnload() 'Register Silverlight object for availability in Javascript. • jQuery tabs error when used with jTemplates

    - by tessa
I am using jTemplates to format data returned from a json query. I am trying to transform the div with the id "fundingDialogTabs" into jQuery tabs after the template is processed. It renders the tab buttons, but both fragment1 and fragment2 divs are showing at the same time. I get the error "jQuery UI Tabs: Mismatching fragment identifier" when clicking on the fragment2 tab. • How to find if a Item in a ListBox has the focus?

    - by eitan barazani
    I have a List box defined like this: <ListBox x:Name="EmailList" ItemsSource="{Binding MailBoxManager.Inbox.EmailList}" SelectedItem="{Binding SelectedMessage, Mode=TwoWay}" Grid.Row="1"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <usrctrls:MessageSummary /> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> The UserControl is defined like this: <UserControl x:Class="UserControls.MessageSummary" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="300" d:DesignWidth="600"> <UserControl.Resources> </UserControl.Resources> <Grid HorizontalAlignment="Left"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="50" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <CheckBox Grid.Column="0" VerticalAlignment="Center" /> <Grid Grid.Column="1" Margin="0,0,12,0"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition /> <RowDefinition /> <RowDefinition /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="30" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="80" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="80" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Image x:Name="FlaggedImage" Grid.Column="0" Width="20" Height="10" Margin="0" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Source="/Assets/ico_flagged_white.png" /> <TextBlock x:Name="Sender" Grid.Column="1" Text="{Binding EmailProperties.DisplayFrom}" Style="{StaticResource TextBlock_SenderRowTitle}" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Center" /> <Grid x:Name="ImagesContainer" Grid.Column="2" VerticalAlignment="Center"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Image x:Name="ImgImportant" Grid.Column="0" Width="20" Height="20" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Source="ms-appx:///Assets/ico_important_red.png" /> <Image x:Name="ImgFolders" Grid.Column="1" Width="20" Height="20" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Source="ms-appx:///Assets/ico_ico_addtofolder.png" /> <Image x:Name="ImgAttachment" Grid.Column="2" Width="20" Height="20" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Source="ms-appx:///Assets/ico_attachment_lightgray.png" /> <Image x:Name="ImgFlag" Grid.Column="3" Width="20" Height="20" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Source="ms-appx:///Assets/ico_flag.png" /> </Grid> <TextBlock x:Name="Time" Grid.Column="3" Text="{Binding EmailProperties.DateReceived, Converter={StaticResource EmailHeaderTimeConverter}}" TextAlignment="Center" FontSize="16" VerticalAlignment="Center" Margin="0" /> </Grid> <TextBlock Grid.Row="1" Text="{Binding EmailProperties.Subject}" TextTrimming="WordEllipsis" Margin="0,10" /> <TextBlock Grid.Row="2" Text="{Binding EmailProperties.Preview}" TextTrimming="WordEllipsis" /> </Grid> </Grid> The MessageSummary is a UserControl. I would like to bind the foreground color of the Items of the ListBox to whether the item is the one selected in the list box, i.e. I would like the Item's foreground color to be Black if not selected and White if the item is selected. How can it be done? Thanks,

  • JavaScript Data Binding Frameworks

    - by dwahlin
Data binding is where it’s at now days when it comes to building client-centric Web applications. Developers experienced with desktop frameworks like WPF or web frameworks like ASP.NET, Silverlight, or others are used to being able to take model objects containing data and bind them to UI controls quickly and easily. When moving to client-side Web development the data binding story hasn’t been great since neither HTML nor JavaScript natively support data binding. This means that you have to write code to place data in a control and write code to extract it. Although it’s certainly feasible to do it from scratch (many of us have done it this way for years), it’s definitely tedious and not exactly the best solution when it comes to maintenance and re-use. Over the last few years several different script libraries have been released to simply the process of binding data to HTML controls. In fact, the subject of data binding is becoming so popular that it seems like a new script library is being released nearly every week. Many of the libraries provide MVC/MVVM pattern support in client-side JavaScript apps and some even integrate directly with server frameworks like Node.js. Here’s a quick list of a few of the available libraries that support data binding (if you like any others please add a comment and I’ll try to keep the list updated): AngularJS MVC framework for data binding (although closely follows the MVVM pattern). Backbone.js MVC framework with support for models, key/value binding, custom events, and more. Derby Provides a real-time environment that runs in the browser an in Node.js. The library supports data binding and templates. Ember Provides support for templates that automatically update as data changes. JsViews Data binding framework that provides “interactive data-driven views built on top of JsRender templates”. jQXB Expression Binder Lightweight jQuery plugin that supports bi-directional data binding support. KnockoutJS MVVM framework with robust support for data binding. For an excellent look at using KnockoutJS check out John Papa’s course on Pluralsight. Meteor End to end framework that uses Node.js on the server and provides support for data binding on  the client. Simpli5 JavaScript framework that provides support for two-way data binding. WinRT with HTML5/JavaScript If you’re building Windows 8 applications using HTML5 and JavaScript there’s built-in support for data binding in the WinJS library.   I won’t have time to write about each of these frameworks, but in the next post I’m going to talk about my (current) favorite when it comes to client-side JavaScript data binding libraries which is AngularJS. AngularJS provides an extremely clean way – in my opinion - to extend HTML syntax to support data binding while keeping model objects (the objects that hold the data) free from custom framework method calls or other weirdness. While I’m writing up the next post, feel free to visit the AngularJS developer guide if you’d like additional details about the API and want to get started using it.

In this Issue: Phil Middlemiss, Robert Kozak, Kathleen Dollard, Avi Pilosof, Nokola, Jeff Wilcox, David Anson, Timmy Kokke, Tim Greenfield, and Josh Smith. Shoutout: SmartyP has additional info up on his WP7 Pivot app: Preview of My Current Windows Phone 7 Pivot Work From SilverlightCream.com: A Chrome and Glass Theme - Part I Phil Middlemiss is starting a tutorial series on building a new theme for Silverlight, in this first one we define some gradients and color resources... good stuff Phil Intercepting INotifyPropertyChanged This is Robert Kozak's first post on this blog, but it's a good one about INotifyPropertyChanged and MVVM and has a solution in the post with lots of code and discussion. How do I Display Data of Complex Bound Criteria in Horizontal Lists in Silverlight? Kathleen Dollard's latest article in Visual Studio magazine is in answer to a question about displaying a list of complex bound criteria including data, child data, and photos, and displaying them horizontally one at a time. Very nice-looking result, and all the code. Windows Phone: Frame/Page navigation and transitions using the TransitioningContentControl Avi Pilosof discusses the built-in (boring) navigation on WP7, and then shows using the TransitionContentControl from the Toolkit to apply transitions to the navigation. EasyPainter: Cloud Turbulence and Particle Buzz Nokola returns with a couple more effects for EasyPainter: Cloud Turbulence and Particle Buzz ... check out the example screenshots, then go grab the code. Property change notifications for multithreaded Silverlight applications Jeff Wilcox is discussing the need for getting change notifications to always happen on the UI thread in multi-threaded apps... great diagrams to see what's going on. Tip: The default value of a DependencyProperty is shared by all instances of the class that registers it David Anson has a tip up about setting the default value of a DependencyProperty, and the consequence that may have depending upon the type. Building a “real” extension for Expression Blend Timmy Kokke's code is WPF, but the subject is near and dear to us all, Timmy has a real-world Expression Blend extension up... a search for controls in the Objects and Timelines pane ... and even if that doesn't interest you... it's the source to a Blend extension! XPath support in Silverlight 4 + XPathPad Tim Greenfield not only talks about XPath in SL4RC, but he has produced a tool, XPathPad, and provided the source... if you've used XPath, you either are a higher thinker than me(not a big stretch), or you need this :) Using a Service Locator to Work with MessageBoxes in an MVVM Application Josh Smith posted about a question that comes up a lot: showing a messagebox from a ViewModel object. This might not work for custom message boxes or unit testing. This post covers the Unit Testing aspect. Stay in the 'Light! He's discussing commanding. He gives some good external links and develops in his own direction as well. Application Partitioning with MEF, Silverlight and Windows Azure – Part II Alexander Strauss has the second and final part of his MEF/Silverlight/Azuer posts up, describing getting XAP information from Azure Blob storage. Simple Databinding and 3-D Features using Silverlight in Windows Phone 7 (WP7) Mahesh Sabnis has a post up combining DataBinding and 3D displays on WP7 ... good long tutorial and source. Keeping an ObservableCollection sorted with a method override Andrea Boschin details the reasons behind his need for having a sorted ObservableCollection, then hands over the code he used to do so. VS2010: Silverlight 4 profiling Maxim Goldin posted about profiling Silverlight 4 in VS2010. It's not overly straightforward but once you do it a couple times, not a big deal ... check out the comments as well. Peter Torr: Mock Location APIs from my Mix10 Talk A discussion came up on the insider's list this morning asking about Location Service in the emulator. Laurent Bugnion pointed us at Peter Torr's Mock Location from his MIX10 talk. Finding the "real" templates and generic.xaml in Silverlight core or library assemblies, by using .NET Reflector Wolf Schmidt at the Silverlight SDK has a post up about using .NET Reflector to rat around in Silverlight core or library assemblies. How does MEFedMVVM compose the catalogs and how can I override the behavior? – MEFedMVVM Part 4 Marlon Grech has Part 4 of his MEFedMVVM series up and this one is for advanced use of MEFedMVVM... where you're writing a composer and how that would be different for Silverlight and WPF... oh yeah, and what is a composer as well :) Stay in the 'Light!
