• How can you block access form internet explorer in asp mvc

  I love microsoft development products! I hate microsoft browsers... I have made the decision to cut ties with internet explorer until they add support for some common W3 approved items. Namely 'multiple' in forms as well as about 5 other things... and as such I would like to urge my visitors to use a better browser. is there a way to setup an http handler or perhaps something in the asax file to route all ie users to a custom page? Thanks for the help! p.s. microsoft why must you make me love you and hate you.

• How to programatically set cell.textLabel.text from a different view?

  I've got a view controller, call it VC1, that's a table view. When I tap a cell in the table view, I am presented with a new view controller, call it VC2, which is a short list of choices. After making a choice, I want to dismiss VC2 and set the cell.textLabel.text property of the VC1 cell I originally tapped to the value I selected in VC2. Conceptually speaking, what is the proper way to do this? I've tried a handful of different approaches, but all of them seem wonky at best, and only one of them actually worked - although it was the most cumbersome of all, passing references to both view controllers and table view cells and all kinds of things. It just feels like I'm making a mountain out of what is probably a mole hill. This is such a common paradigm that I find it hard to believe there's not a simple method for doing it. Thanks in advance for any input you can offer.

• Shipping jar with default .properties file configurations

  Hello, I would like to include a default default.properties file in my .jar library. The idea is to allow the user to override my default is he so desires. I'm having trouble getting the classloader to play nicely with this setup, I've tried to look a at popular jars such as log4j, common-* and others and it seems that no one is implementing this idea. Am I going the wrong way? The second best thing is hard coding the values, and using the default if no .properties key has been found, but this sound oh so wrong. Suggestions?

  Hi, I have my webservice deployed on Apache tomcat 5.5. When I run my webservice using eclipse IDE, it prints logs to the location I have specified . I have put log4j property file for my webservice in the apache-tomcat-5.5.28/common/classes folder. Problem is , when i run this using webservice .aar file which is put in to apache-tomcat-5.5.28/webapps/axis2/WEB-INF/classes folder in the webservice ,it does not print logs. Could anyone tell me what is going wrong here. why does it print logs when running from eclipse ide and, why is it not printing logs when it is started

  Possible Duplicate: Allen Holub wrote “You should never use get/set functions”, is he correct? Is there a good, no, a very good reason, to go through all the trouble of using getters and setters for object-oriented languages? What's wrong with just using a direct reference to a property or method? Is there some kind of "semantical coverup" that people don't want to talk about in polite company? Was I just too tired and fell asleep when someone walked out and said "Thou Shalt Write Copious Amounts of Code to Obtain Getters and Setters"? Follow-up after a year: It seems to be a common occurrence with Java, less so with Python. I'm beginning to wonder if this is more of a cultural phenomena (related to the limitations of the language) rather than "sage advice". The -1 question score is complete for-the-lulz as far as I am concerned. It's interesting that there are specific questions that are downvoted, not because they are "bad questions", but rather, because they hit someone's raw nerve.

• Shader vs Shader Material , papervision specific , general insight welcome.

  hello overflow. I asked this question on the pv3d forum and not a single person could, or cared to answer it. Im relatively new to 3d so i apologize if this is common sense to some. I have a sphere , in which i am applying a CellMaterial to. Looks great. I noticed that in the papervision sdk , there is also a CellShader. Should I be using this in congruence with the CellMaterial ? Should it be one or the other ? Is shader , a deprecated practice to Shader Material ? My initial thoughts were that the shader applies to the whole scene , while materials can be applied uniquely to objects. The documentation seems to show otherwise. What benefit if any could be gained by using both a CellShader and a CellMaterial ? id really love to get some ambient inclusion in there some how.

• Can you open an SPSite object while being within a different site collection?

  I'm working on creating a common navigation experience across two site collections in MOSS 2007. I've looked around for various solutions and haven't found anything that fits. Our navigation is dynamic and driven by a number of factors, including audience targeting. Most of what I've found relates to having static XML and that just won't work for our requirements. What I'm down to at the moment is just getting a navigation item from site collection A while in the context of site collection B. Are there reasons I shouldn't be able to just open a navigation item from site collection A and gets its audience? Certainly there could be permissions problems on my end, or code related issues, or things that are in my control. What I'm wondering is if there's something inherent to SharePoint that would not allow this. Something I don't have control over which would force me to travel a different path.

• How to put 1000 lightweight server applications in the cloud

  The company I work for sells a commercial desktop/server app that runs on any non dedicated Windows PC or server and uses Tomcat for all interactions with the application. Customers are asking that we host their instance of the application so they don't have to run it locally on their own servers. The app is lightweight and an average server, in theory, could handle 25-50 instances before users would notice a slowdown. However only 1 instance can run per Windows instance (because the application writes to a common registry branch) so we'd need something like VMWare to create 25-50 Windows instances. We know we eventually need to reprogram to make it truly cloud-worthy but what would you recommend for a server farm or whatever for this? We don't have the setup to purchase our own servers so we must use a 3rd party. We have budgeted $500 - $1000 per year per customer for this service. Thanks in advance for your suggestions, experiences and guidance.

  On our network (a group of related websites - not a LAN) we have a common authentication system which works like this: On a network site ("consumer") the user clicks on a login link This redirects the user to a login page on our auth system ("RAS"). Upon successful login the user is directed back to the consumer site. Extra data is passed in the query string. This extra data does not include any information about the user yet. The consumer site's backend contacts RAS to get the information about the logged in user. So as you can see, the consumer site knows nothing about the authentication method. It doesn't know if it's by username/password, fingerprint, smartcard, or winning a game of poker. This is the main problem I'm encountering when trying to find out how I could write custom authentication plugins for these packages, acting as consumer sites: Wordpress Joomla MediaWiki For example Joomla offers a pretty simple auth plugin system, but it depends on a username/password entered on the Joomla site. Any hints on where to start?

I'm looking for features like configurable at runtime policies updateable at runtime, read from other data sources than a security.policy file Thread-aware, e.g. different policies per Thread Higher-level policies, e.g. "Disable network functions, but allow JDBC traffic" Common predefined policies, e.g. "Allow read-access to usual system properties like file.encoding or line.separator, but disallow read-access to user.home" Monitoring and audit trace logging, e.g. "Log all file access, log all network access going NOT to knownhost.example.org" Blocking jobs "requesting" a permission until an administrator grants permission, letting the thread/job continue ... • Is there a non-blocking version of MessageBox.Show (or something like it)?

  Often you just want to notify the user that something has occurred, but there's really no need for any input from them. In this common scenario, I sometimes see code like this: MessageBox.Show("Something has occurred", "Something", MessageBoxButtons.OK); This code, as we all know, causes a little pop-up window to appear with only an OK button. Now here's the thing: this code blocks (the UI thread). But in the vast majority of cases, it seems to me, if you only have an OK button, there's very little need to block. (Isn't the purpose of blocking typically to receive some input from the user? And if the user's only choice is "OK," in this typical case, isn't blocking pretty pointless?) Obviously I could just write my own little form that does basically exactly what MessageBox.Show does, except that it returns nothing (no DialogResult) and doesn't block. But I was just wondering if something like this exists already that I didn't know about.

• Visual Studio 2010 "Not enough storage is available to process this command"

  I'm fighting with VS 2010 and this error that seems to be very common in previous versions, but it looks like not everyone is having it in the latest version. I've got VS 2010 SP1 and I'm getting this error quite often. The problem is that it's not even enough to restart VS in order to make it go away, I usually have to restart my pc, and i'm losing a lot of time doing this (it's quite frequent) I've got Windows 7 32bits (can't upgrade to 64 bits, the company doesn't allow it), and I can't do things like creating another solution (please don't reply this :) ) I've used the command to make devenv.exe LARGEADDRESSAWARE, but the error keeps on happening My virtual memory size is set to automatic, and the weird thing is that VS doesn't even take 2gb of ram, so I don't know if the error is really because it's lacking memory, or if it's some bug in the program any ideas, things to try, something?

How are error messages or further details associated with the error codes? resource files? attributes on enum values, etc.? If you have a multi-tier application consisting of DAL, BLL, UI, and Common projects for example, should there be a single giant list of codes for all tiers, or are the codes extensible by project/tier?   We are trying to remove the global.asax from our many web applications in favor of HttpModules that are in a common code base. This works really well for many application events such as BeginRequest and PostAuthentication, but there is no Application Start event exposed in the HttpModule. I can think of a couple of smelly ways to overcome this deficit. Instead, prefer to organize code such that the use of macros drives alternative implementations of one common interface, and then use the interface throughout. I'm having trouble understanding exactly what they mean by this. How can you drive alternate implementations without the use of #ifdef conditional compile macro directives?   The sort question, is the an off the self function to make a graph from a set of python sets? The longer: I have several python set types. They each overlap or some are sub sets of others. I would like to make a graph (as in nodes and edges) with the edges weighted by common intersection of the sets. There are several graphing packages for python. (NetworkX, igraph,...) I am not familiar with the use of any of them. Will any of them make a graph directly from a list of sets ie, MakeGraphfromSets(alistofsets) If not do you know of an example of how to take the list of sets to define the edges. It actually looks like it might be straight forward but an example is always good to have.

  Hi, I’m having a question about the fine line between the gain of an index to a table there is growing steadily in size every month and the gain of queries with an index. The situation is, that I’ve two tables, Table1 and Table2. Each table grows slowly but regularly each month (with about 100 new rows for Table1 and a couple of rows for Table2). My concrete question is whether to have an index or to drop it. I’ve made some measurement that an covering index on Table2 improve my SELECT queries and some rather much but again, I’ve to consider the pros and cons but having a really hard time to decide. For Table1 it might not be necessary to have an index because the SELECT queries there is not that common. I would appreciate any suggestion, tips or just good advice to what is a good solution.   In my domain I have a handful of "processor" classes which hold the bulk of the business logic. Using StructureMap with default conventions, I inject repositories into those classes for their various IO (databases, file system, etc.). For example: public interface IHelloWorldProcessor { string HelloWorld(); } public class HelloWorldProcessor : IHelloWorldProcessor { private IDBRepository _dbRepository; public HelloWorldProcessor(IDBRepository dbRepository) { _dbRepository = dbrepository; } public string HelloWorld(){ return _dbRepository.GetHelloWorld(); } } Now, there are some repositories that I'd like to be available to all processors, so I made a base class like this: public class BaseProcessor { protected ICommonRepository _commonRepository; public BaseProcessor(ICommonRepository commonRepository) { _commonRepository = commonRepository; } } But when my other processors inherit from it, I get a compiler error on each one saying that there's no constructor for BaseProcessor which takes zero arguments. Is there a way to do what I'm trying to do here? That is, to have common dependencies injected into a base class that my other classes can use without having to write the injections into each one?

Can I copy and use their xslt and css (ofcourse with colors and images changed).   I want to develop a common python package, I got other packages depends on it. For example: packageA/ packageB/ packageC/ commonPackage/ packageA, packageB and packageC can all be executed directly, but they are all depend on commonPackage. I want to install the commonPackage into lib/site-packages, but I don't want it copys the source code. Instead, I want it creates a commonPackage.pth in lib/site-packages with the path of where the commonPackage at. So that when I modify commonPackage or update it from SVN, I don't need to install it again. Here comes the problem, how can I write the setup.py or use the options of python setup.py install so that it would do what I want?

• Win7: Right place to install a program that may be 'shared' with other computers

  We have an app that currently installs itself into 'program files\our app', and it puts the internal data files into the common Application Data folder. This means the program is available to any user on that particular PC. Now we want to make a multi-user version of this program, multiple PCs accessing the program at the same time across the network. In the bad old days, under XP, we'd just have the user who installed the app 'share' the app directory and off we'd go. In principle, is this still the 'right' way to do it under Vista/Windows 7? We'd like to do this 'properly' and be as compliant as possible! Is there a recommended 'Microsoft' approach for doing this, or is it largely down to whatever we can get away with and subsequently support (hah!). I've tried researching this on the MS websites but not found anything too helpful at all - it'd be really useful to have a 'if you're trying to install this kind of thing, put it here' type guide for developers!

  I'm interested in learning more about design practices in PHP for Database Abstraction & Factory methods. For background, my site is a common-interest social networking community currently in beta mode. Currently, I've started moving my old code for object retrieval to factory methods. However, I do feel like I'm limiting myself by keeping a lot of SQL table names and structure separated in each function/method. Questions: Is there a reason to use PEAR (or similar) if I dont anticipate switching databases? Can PEAR interface with the MySqli prepared statements I currently use? Will it help me separate table names from each method? (If no, what other design patterns might I want to research?) Will it slow down my site once I have a significantly large member base?
