• AIX 6.1 unable to build apache module

  In Aix 6.1/ Apache version 2.2.8 packaged as part of IBM WebSphere. We should have had mod_dumpio for this version but for some reasons IBM did not include it. So we are trying to build this module(in few many ways) but none of them worked. 1) Using apxs:- Failed with the "xlc_r" not found as compile option for libtool. So based on an article online, we changed to "gcc" and we have to remove -qmaxmem and -qHALT to make it work. Result we see a .lo created but LoadModule fails(unable to find .loader section). 2) Using gcc:- Command "gcc -fpic -DSHARED_MODULE -I -c mod_dumpio.c" After running this command, we can see .o file created and then we tried to execute "ld -Bshareable -o mod_dumpio.so mod_dumpio.o" whereas AIX complaining about -Bshareable so we tried using this command "gcc -shared -I -o mod_dumpio.so mod_dumpio.o" whereas the error was "libgcc_s" not found. Then we added -static-libgcc to the above command and it was not resolving .h file functions (Unknown symbols). From IBM AIX site, libgcc_s costs around $2k. We think our second approach may work but we dont know how to instruct gcc to look for .h files while building .so from .o. Any help is appreciated.

  Being new to this i realy am trying to learn how to keep code as simple as possible, whilst doing the job its supposed to. The question i have done is from project eulur, it says Each new term in the Fibonacci sequence is generated by adding the previous two terms. By starting with 1 and 2, the first 10 terms will be: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89, ... Find the sum of all the even-valued terms in the sequence which do not exceed four million. Here is my code below, i was wondering what the best way of simplifying this would be, for a start removing all of the .get(list.length()-1 )..... stuff would be a good start if possible but i dont really no how to?   Again, dont really know how to phrase the question so I will explain. I have a video recorder application. I open my camera with cameraRecorder = Camera.open(1); //(this is the front facing camera) And get the camera parameters and all supported preview sizes CameraParameters tmpParams = cameraRecorder.getParameters(); List<Camera.Size> tmpList = tmpParams.getSupportedPreviewSizes(); one of the preview sizes on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 running ICS (4.0.4) is 800x600 but when I try to set the Video size in my media Player mediaRecorder.setVideoSize(800,600); I get this error: 12-19 17:27:55.035: E/CameraSource(110): Video dimension (800x600) is unsupported 12-19 17:27:55.035: E/StagefrightRecorder(110): cameraSource do not init 12-19 17:27:55.035: E/StagefrightRecorder(110): setupCameraSource failed. • linked list sort function only loops once

I dont understand why it doesnt do the check again after the two temp pointers are incremented.

• Is programming overrated?

  [Subjective and intended to be a community wiki] I am sorry for such an offensive question: But here are my arguments Most of the progress in "computing" has came from non-programming sources. i.e. People invented faster microprocessors and better routers and novel memory devices. I dont think on average people are writting more efficient programs than those written 10 years ago. And the newer and popular languages are infact slower than C. though speed is one of the lesser criterias. Most of the progress came from novel paradigms. Web, Internet, Cloud computing and Social networking are novel paradigms and did not involve progress in programming as such. Heck even facebook was written in PHP and not some extreme language. Though it did face scalability issues (same with twitter) but i believe money and better programmers (who came in much later) took care of that. Thus ideating capability trumped programming capability/ Even things like Map-Reduce, Column oriented database and Probablistic algorithms (E.g. bloom filters) came from hardcore Algorithms research, rather than some programming convention. Thus my final point is why programming skill is so overstressed? To point a recent example about how only 10% of programmers can "write code" (binary search) without debugging. Isnt it a bit hypocritical, considering your real successs lies in coming up with better algorithm or a novel feature rather than getting right first time???

• Generating random thumbnails with PHP+FFMPEG

  I am trying to generate thumbnails from movies using FFMPEG and the FFMPEG-PHP extension. My script works OK however takes 20 minutes just to generate 5-10 thumbnails! The script works by generating random numbers which are used as frame numbers later. All numbers generated are within the movies frame count.   Im trying to use interfaces to call different subroutines with different types, however, it doesnt seem to work when i use the pointer attribute. for example, take this sample code MODULE ptr_types TYPE, abstract :: parent INTEGER :: q END TYPE TYPE, extends(parent) :: child INTEGER :: m END TYPE INTERFACE ptr_interface MODULE PROCEDURE do_something END INTERFACE CONTAINS SUBROUTINE do_something(atype) CLASS(parent), POINTER :: atype ! code determines that this allocation is correct from input ALLOCATE(child::atype) WRITE (*,*) atype%q END SUBROUTINE END MODULE PROGRAM testpass USE ptr_types CLASS(child), POINTER :: ctype CALL ptr_interface(ctype) END PROGRAM This gives error Error: There is no specific subroutine for the generic 'ptr_interface' at (1) however if i remove the pointer attribute in the subroutine it compiles fine. Now, normally this wouldnt be a problem, but for my use case i need to be able to treat that argument as a pointer, mainly so i can allocate it if necessary. Any suggestions? Im sure this is due to restrictions when dealing with the pointer attribute, for type safety, however, im looking for a way to convert a pointer into its parent type for generic allocation. Rather than have to write separate allocation functions for every type and hope they dont collide in an interface or something. hopefully this example will illustrate a little more clearly what im trying to achieve, if you know a better way let me know

Smth like select * from `table` where type in (1,3,4,12) and obj_id in (5,15,14,17) But this query returns also records with type = 3 and obj_id = 14, and for example type = 1 and obj_id = 17. p.s. moderators, please fix my title, I dont know how to describe my question.

• PHP and storing stats

  Using PHP5 and the latest version of MySQL I want to be able to track impressions and clicks for business listings. My question is if I did this myself what would be the best method in storing it so I can run reports? Before I just had a table that had the listing id, user ip address and if it was a click or impression as well as the date it was tracked. However the database itself is approaching 2GB of data and its very slow, part of the problem is its a pretty simple script that includes impressions and clicks from anyone including search engines and basically anyone or anything that accesses the listing page. Is there an api or file out there that has an update to date list that can detect if the person viewing is a actually person and not a spider so I dont fill up the database with unneeded stats? Just looking for suggestions, do I just have a raw database that gets just the hits then a cron job at night tally up for the day for each listing for each ip and store the cumulative stats in a different table? Also what type of database should it be? Innodb? MyISAM?

  Hi everybody... I've been thinking about this a long time now but i wanna hear your opinion because i always received the ebst answers here. So in advance... thank you guys. Right now i have to make this decision: Shift a prototype webservice to production quality. Choose either Ruby or PHP... (Background: A friend of mine is joining the project and prefers rails) I've already played around a bit with RoR (only basic stuff) but i am really disappointed about the documentation of Rails and Ruby. In relation to PHP i find only fragments or hard to use references. At the end i am a bit scared. I dont wanna waste my time realizing that i am not capable of doing s.th in Ruby what i could with PHP. Maybe only because i am too stupid and don't find a proper explanation ;-) Did anyone experience this shift and can tell me how easy/hard it was to switch from PHP to Ruby? E.G. would you recommend programming it in PHP and using MVC as a base pattern? Thanks for your opinion!!!

• .htaccess file on localhost throwing an error when using a Virtual Host config on my Localhost!!

  I am trying to set-up my localhost development server. I have everything working but when I try to add an .htaccess it throws this error: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, [no address given] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. I dont know exactly why this is, this is pretty much the exact same setup as the other developers machine, but when using my .htaccess file I get that error. • How to write a generic USB Host Driver for Printers from various vendors?

  I want to develop a USB host on an embedded device that will talk to printers from various vendors. Drivers for the vendor specific printers would be available on PC which is ultimately communicating with printer but my device is facilitating this communication and needs to perform the basic handshaking/setup of the printer (i.e, it needs to know when the printer is connected, what are the socket IDs that needs to be opened for CTRL and DATA transmissions etc). All of these printers are supposed to comply with IEEE 1284.4 standards but I see that many of them vary quiet a bit. One approach I have is to take the USB traces of handshaking from each of these printers and write various sections of code respectively (I know, that sounds ridiculous!). Is there a generic way to do this? Is there any available forum where these standard informations are mentioned? For eg: EPSON uses 'EPSON-CTRL' and 'EPSON-DATA' for its control and data services which needs to be provided to get the socket ID for these services. I am pretty sure HPs, Canon's etc would have their own service names as well. As per the standards, this was supposed to be captured in IANA but I dont see anything there.   Hi, my xml document looks somewhat like that (Values are both xsl:hexBinary): <Offsets> <Offset> <Name>ErrorOffset</Name> <Value>DD</Value> </Offset> <Offset> <Name>OtherOffset</Name> <Value>FF</Value> </Offset> </Offsets> <Value> <Name>Error1</Name> <Code>01</Code> </Value> <Value> <Name>Error2</Name> <Code>02</Code> <Offset>ErrorOffset</Offset> </Value> now i want to transform this to a new xml file: <Value> <Name>Error1</Name> <Code>01</Code> </Value> <Value> <Name>Error2</Name> <Code>DF</Code> </Value> All that should happen is adding <Offset> to the basic <Value>. But plain + returns NaN and sum() expects only one parameter. XSLT and XPATH are quite nice, but it goes on my nerves that easy operations like adding two hex values just dont work as easy as it should.

  I am trying to create a process from a service in C++. This new process is creating as a child process. I want to create an independent process and not a child process... I am using CreateProcess function for the same. Since the new process i create is a child process when i try to kill process tree at the service level it is killing the child process too...   What are the best practices to be followed to update the contents of a listactivty by a background thread (Async Task) ? 1) Am calling the notifyDataSetChanged() to update the adapter as soon as i manipulate the contents of the adapter but still my app force closes while the user scrolls or click on the list. Any pointers to prevent this would be very helpfull. Logcat: java.lang.IllegalStateException: The content of the adapter has changed but ListView did not receive a notification. 2) Where exaclty should i update contents of the listactivity ? inside the doInBackground() or onProgressUpdate()? 3) Am experiencing regular crashes when the user clicks the list item. So will disabling click events on the listactivty during the background operation solve the problem ? If so am not sure how to remove or set item click listeners dynamically to the listactivity. Please instruct me on the too. 4) I dont think blocking all ui interactions during the background async task execution is the only way to solve the problem. I know there is a simple way of doing this but need some help. Thanks in advance. • How to get readable classname and title from HWND handle? in WinApi c++

  I am using the following enumchild proc to get hwnd of each window, the problem is that i am unable to somehow detect any info from each hwnd so i can do what i want with the ones that are detected as the ones i need. For example, how could i get window class name and the title of each window in the enum bellow? I tried something like.. BOOL CALLBACK EnumChildProc(HWND hwnd, LPARAM lParam) { TCHAR className[MAX_PATH]; GetClassName(hwnd, cName, _countof(cName)); cout << cName; return TRUE; } It just returns the hexadec handle info and every single time it is same, shouldnt the GetClassName func change the cName into new handle each time? Also GetClassName function returns number of chars written to cName, i dont really see how this is useful to me? I need to get my cName in some readable format so i can do something like if(cName == TEXT("classnameiamlookingfor" && hwndtitle = TEXT("thetitlethatinterestsme") DOSOMETHINGWITHIT(); But all i get here is hexadec mess.

• Printing an Image embedded into an asp.net page. C#

  I am looking to print using C#, micorsoft visual studio, asp.net. The goal:- I am trying to print all pages in a fax document. Format:- The fax document is received as a single .tiff file with multiple pages. Any Ideas of how to go about just printing the .tiff embedded image instead of the entire web browser window. <2 Although my for loop iterates through the pages. The print function is only called after the loop has iterated through all the pages and stopped on the final page (say page 6/6). And then it only prints that last page (along with the rest of the contents on the browser window). This is not what I want to happen... I dont want to print all the excess material on the browser window such as buttons, links etc... I just want the embedded .tiff image from the browser window.
