• Not able to access UNC share after doing the Imperosnation

  We have to access a network UNC share which is say allowing access to USER1. Our exe is running with LOCAL SYSTEM account. In the exe, we do Impersonation with "USER1" credentials so that exe can access UNC share. But after doing the impersonation, we are still getting error "Access denied" while accessing that UNC share. After the impersonation, we are enabling following privileges on the Impersonated thread: SE_BACKUP_NAME SE_CHANGE_NOTIFY_NAME SE_CREATE_GLOBAL_NAME SE_DEBUG_NAME SE_IMPERSONATE_NAME SE_RESTORE_NAME SE_SECURITY_NAME SE_TAKE_OWNERSHIP_NAME SE_TCB_NAME Do we need to enable any other privileges or we are missing something else? • Apple has bigger market capitalization than Microsoft

  Should I worry that my Microsoft programming skills (C#, .NET, WinAPI) will be obsolete in a few years, because everybody will be using Mac OS X, iPhone OS or some other Apple-originated OS? According to reuters, Apple has now bigger market capitalization than Microsoft. I know there is probably huge speculative bubble around Apple's shares, but just look at this graph (taken from business insider): I also know Windows have currently 90% of the OS market share, so we (Win devs) should be OK for a few years, but who knows, maybe in 10 years, it will be just 40%, and 0% on mobile phone OS market. Personally, I'm not much worried, because I think Microsoft will fight hard for their desktop OS market share, but I'm interested in your opinions.

  I am creating a WordPress site using Artisteer and various plugins to show off some photo galleries. I have also purchased a e-commerce WordPress theme that I have included as a subdirectory. In this theme they have a share button that I like the functionality of. I want to replicate the button in the front section of the site within the gallery pages.   In my PHP web site will have a text converted to jpeg file,so it is a image. I want that i give users option to share the image. every image will have unique url so they can share image on facebook,twitter , do i need to put images with their url in mysql database or you do it in cloud? user will write text and then script will convert it to image and show it as image. then i want to provide user that he/she can share their created image. • Check if NFS share is mounted in python script

  I wrote a python script that depends on a certain NFS share to be available. If the NFS share is not mounted it will happily copy the files to the local path where it should be mounted, but fail later when it tries to copy some files back that were created on the NFS server. I'd like to catch this error specifically so I can print a useful error message that will tell the users of this script what they have to do. My first idea would be to execute mount using subprocess and then check the output for this nfs share. But I'm wondering if there isn't a nicer and more robust method of doing it.

• IIS7 returns 403.1 (execute access denied) for image file

  I have a web app running in IIS7 on Windows Server 2008. There is a virtual directory pointing to a shared folder "/Content/Data" on another machine (running Windows Server 2003), as well as a real directory "/Content/Images" on the local machine (web app sub folder). Accessing images in "/Content/Images" is no problem, but when an image (e.g. a JPEG file) in the "/Content/Data" is accessed by a browser, IIS returns this error: HTTP Error 403.1 - Forbidden: Execute access is denied. However, the web app can read and write to / from it. I assume IIS and ASP.NET are running under different user accounts? Does anyone have an idea on what I have to do to make it work? I have set the permissions on the shared folder to Everyone Full Control, with no luck.

• Cannot access Network Shares on Windows Server 2008 running VisualSVN Server

  Hi, I have installed VisualSVN server on Windows Server 2008. The server is part of a domain but not the domain controller, it is just a data server and now an SVN server. VisualSVN uses port 80 and can only be access from inside the network (i do i by going to the dns name of the server). However, ever since i have installed this, other computers on the network can no longer access the shared folders on the server EXCEPT the domain controller which has no problems accessing the shares. I am stumped, i am guessing it is something to do with Apache running and not using host-headers (or whatever the Apache equivalent may be) but just being bound to the servers DNS name or IP. Any suggestions?

• Mounting NFS share between OSX and Centos VM

  I'm having issues mounting an NFS share I've made on my Mac host (server) from a Centos VM (client). I'm getting a permission denied error. I have this line in /etc/exports on server: /Users/adam/Sites/ 192.168.1.223(rw) and in /etc/fstab on client: 192.168.1.186:/Users/adam/Sites/ /home/adam/Sites/ nfs rw 0 0 I'm sure this is a simple configuration issue, but I've never set up NFS properly before. • How can I get the printer shares on a print server using Powershell?

  I'm trying to use Powershell to get the print shares from a remote print server.   I'm having a Cisco VPN connection to access our branch office. Since several people using the VPN I'm planing to install the VPN client on one of our server and share it through RRAS to save the licenses (like site - to - site). I install RRAS on a windows 2008 R2 (svrw2k8r2) and made the static routes on client computers. I could able to ping to the VPN's IP on svrw2k8r2 server but they can't seems to connect to the servers in other branch through this setup.   Small network of perhaps half a dozen engineers, currently working on local copies of AutoCAD project files, which are then copied back up to file server (2008 Standard, 1-2 year old Dell server hardware, RAID 5 SAS disks (10k? not positive)) at end of day. To me, this sounds horribly inefficient and error-prone, however, I've been told that "AutoCAD and network files = bad idea" and this is gospel. The network is currently 10/100 (perhaps this is the reason for the "gospel") but all the workstations are within 2 years old and have GbE NICs so an upgrade of the core switch is long overdue. However, I know certain applications don't like network access, at all, and any sign of latency or disruption brings the whole thing crashing down. Anyone care to chime in?

• Share laptop Wi-Fi with router set up as access point via ethernet cables

  I have an ADSL modem which serves as a wireless router. There's a laptop connected to it through cable. On the other room I have a laptop which is connected through the router wirelessly. Since I have other appliances that need to get connected but are not Wi-Fi capable I have another Wi-Fi router. How can I share the second laptop's Wi-Fi with the second router so that the router can then serve as an access point to give internet to my other appliances through ethernet cables? I want something like this: INTERNETMODEM (WIFI)LAPTOP 1 (WIFI)LAPTOP 2 (WIFI)Router 2 (ETHERNET)DREAMBOX & WDTV What I've tried so far is opened the admin interface of router 2 then set static IP 192.168.100.13 and disabled the DHCP. The DHCP of the main router starts with 192.168.100.1 then I hooked up router 2 with the laptop 2 through Cat5 cable but for some reason it's not working.

• Copying files locally on a network folder

  I noticed that copying a large file from one location on a network drive to another location on the same network drive takes much longer than copying it locally. Instead of copying the file locally, the network computer sends the file to my remote computer, which sends it back to the same network computer. This means the files are being transferred over the network completely unnecessarily. Is there a way to fix this issue? It's becoming a real hassle to manage the video files on my network drive. Note: This is the case with both Windows and Linux (using Samba) network folders.

I works great currently, but I would like to add some security: People from LAN should be able to Read files present and Add new ones, but not delete files. I want to keep this privilege for me ;-) How should-I do this? I have set up a "admin" account having full access even to deletion. There is just left to configure the "guest" acount. Google isn't helping that much right now...

• Trying to mount NFS share on Windows Machien at startup with Z: letter for all users

  Windows Server 2008 We are trying to mount a specific drive letter on a windows machine from a unix machine. We need the mount to be available to the server even if no users are logged in and to users who are logged in with If we run the command from the command prompt manually it conencts and we have access to the NFS share, and can open it and see and edit files. mount -o fileaccess=777 anon \\127.0.0.1\nav z: (ip address replaced with 127.0.0.1 for security reasons) However if we try to automate the task by making an entry in the task schedule for boot time, to execute the batch script, it adds a disconencted drive to the list in 'My Computer' but it is disconencted and when trying to access the drive an error is produced: Z: is not accessible The data area passed to a system call is too small.| Tried as administrator with highest privelidges, as SYSTEM (group) and as my user (adminstator level user) same results. Is there another way to do this? Most of the help I have found online suggest this way but it keeps failing.

• Terse, documented, correct way to create Kerberos-backed user shares in Greyhole

  As a migration strategy away from Windows Home Server (which is currently out of support and intractable for our needs, for a variety of reasons), our little cloister of nerds has targeted Greyhole for our shared use at home. Despite the documentation's terseness, getting the system set up for simple, single-user operation isn't especially difficult, but this scenario fails to service our needs. Among other highlights of the system, we're attempting to emulate Integrated Windows Authentication (with Kerberos) and single-user shares to keep the Windows users in the house happy and well-supported. I'm aware of the underlying systems that go into Greyhole and understand how to set up per-user shares in Samba, but the documentation doesn't seem to support cases for Greyhole to sop up these directories as separate landing zones for replication. Enter my question: are both of these cases (IWA user authentication and user-partitioned personal shares) supported by Greyhole? If so, please cite or link the supporting documentation if it exists.

  I have what appears to be a cable modem plugged into the wall with only ONE ethernet port on it. Therefore i can only connect one computer to it. Also, it has no wireless capability. I have to dialup the connection and enter a username and password on my laptop. But how can i share this internet connection between two laptops running windows 7 ultimate? I have spare ethernet cables if that would help... Please help, thank You.

• Windows 7 PC cannot see some LAN PCs, but can access them via path

  In an office LAN, with Windows 7 Professional workstations and a FreeNAS Samba server, 2 workstations have intermittent problems in browsing for the other workstations, as well as the FreeNAS server. However, so far, it appears that typing in the path to any of the workstations which aren't visible via the "browse" function, works. ie. the machine Workstation7 is not visible while browsing via Windows Explorer, but is accessible if I type \\Workstation7 in the path field. Occasionally the workstations exhibiting these symptoms show errors that their connection to the FreeNAS server has failed and only rebooting resolves the issue. All other workstations on the network use identical Windows 7 Professional installations and never have these problems. I've checked all machines and they're not using Home Groups. All are setup on the same WorkGroup as the FreeNAS server and the network type is set to Work Network. Temporarily disabling the firewall on the workstations with the issue made no difference, so I know this has nothing to do with the firewall settings. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

• Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard: Locks MS Office files, but not Adobe .AI and .PSD files?

  We have some shares setup on a Windows 2003 R2 server, and the MS Office files people save behave properly: The first person to open the file gets read/write, and the second person to open the file while the first person still has the file open, gets a read-only version. This is not true for the graphics files, like Adobe Illustrator .AI files, and Photoshop .PSD files. Anyone who goes to open these files has full read/write, even if someone else is already working on the file! This has lead to numerous file corruption issues, as well as other lost work, since it always saves the last changes to the file. How do we get Windows to properly lock these files so when someone is working on a file, and someone else wants to open one, they get read-only access? Many thanks, Bruce

• afp/smb transfers caps at 2 megabytes/sec, wireless N

  I wanted to transfer files between two mac computers. The network is wireless-N and both computers have wireless-N modules in them. The problem is that when I transfer files between them, via file sharing (afp) the network speed caps at 2 megabytes/sec. Just downloading files from the internet I can get faster speeds, so this isn't a constriction of my wifi bandwidth, it appears to be a constriction of the protocol being used. My wifi-n is set to 130mbits, so I should see real world transfer speeds around 12-16 megabytes/sec I did this command on both computers sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0 which is supposed to lower tcp overhead, but this did not affect it. How can I get the speed I am expecting?

• Mapping drives on MacOSX (Leopard/Snow Leopard) permanently inside LAN

  Hi, How do I "map" shared folders on a Mac, permanently? With map, I do not mean 'connect', but permanently add it to the system so it exists after reboot. Since workstations tend to shutdown, I wonder also the symptoms and cures in case that happens. In Linux, this can be done using the fstab file, but I noticed that volumes are mounted in a different structure than Linux. I need this to backup some workstations, doing a recursive job over a single directory, that should contain the shared folders. I use Terminal to access the main system, so by preference, the solution would be nice that works within a bash shell vs GUI. I can access all folders in Finder. Thanks!
