    Nowadays we have a number of online file management systems (e.g. DropBox, SkyDrive and Google Drive). People can use them to manage different types of documents. However, one might need a system to manage documents when they do not want to publish the company documents to the cloud. In that case, they need to build an online document management system. This project is intended to meet this purpose. However, it is in the early stage. All the functionalities seem working. A lot of work is needed in the UI. Besides this, code needs refactoring.     I have an xml document in the format below: <key>value</key> <key>value</key> <key>value</key> But need to convert it to the following: <tag k='key' v='value' /> <tag k='key' v='value' /> <tag k='key' v='value' /> The original xml file is roughly 20,000 lines long, so I'm keen to automate as much as possible! I've looked at xmlstarlet, but drew a blank with it. Presumably it would be a good place to start though? Help gratefully received, thanks.

  • Fastest way to document software architecture and design

    We are a small team of 5 developers and I'm looking for some great advices about how to document the software architecture and design. I'm going for the sweet spot, where the time invested pays off. I don't want to use more time documenting than necessary. I'll quickly give you my thoughts. What are the diagrams I should made? I'm thinking an overall diagram showing the various applications and services. And then some sequence diagrams showing the most important or complicated processes. About the code it self, I really don't see much value in describing or making diagrams for the code outside the .cs files them self. About text documents, I'm a bit uncertain about when to put down on paper. Most developers don't like to either write or read long documents.

  • How to document/verify consistent layering?

    I have recently moved to the dark side: I am now a CUSTOMER of software development -- mainly websites. With this new role comes new concerns. As a programmer i know how solid an application becomes when it is properly layered, and I want to use this knowledge in my new job. I don't want business logic in my presentation layer, and certainly not presentation stuff in my data layer. Thus, I want to be able to demand from my supllier that they document the level of layering, and how neat and consistent the layering is. The big question is: How is the level of layering documented to me as a customer, and is that a reasonable demmand for me to have, so I don't have to look in the code (I'm not supposed to do that anymore)?

  • How should calculations be handled in a document database

    Ok, so I have a program that basically logs errors into a nosql database. Right now there is just a single model for an error and its stored as a document in the nosql database. Basically I want to summarize across different errors and produce a summary of the "types" of errors that occured. Traditionally in a SQL database the this normalization would work with groupings, sums and averages but in a NoSQL database I assume I need to use mapreduce. My current model seems unfit for the task, how should I change the way I store "models" in order to make statistical analysis easy? Would a NoSQL database even be the right tool for this type of problem? I'm storing things in Google AppEngine's BigTable, so there are some limitations to think of as well.

    I'm a hobbyist programmer (with no formal education) looking to start doing small freelance jobs. One of the things that hobbyist programmers can get away with that those with a "real" job can't is lack of documentation. After all, you wrote it so you know how it works. I feel a little silly asking because it seems like such a basic thing, but how do I document my code? How should it be formatted? How should it be presented? (HTML pages? LaTeX?) What does/doesn't need to be documented? ...And maybe more specifics I haven't thought of. I mostly program in PHP but also C#.

  • Some Adsense domain's ads are causing document.write() statements that remove the html from the page

    All that is output on the page is the domain name of the advertiser, for example 'www.solar-aid.org'. The rest of the content is stripped, I believe because of a document.write() statement. I'd like to know if this is a common issue or something wrong with our setup. There are three domains causing the issue, which we've blocked from Adsense as a result. solar-aid.org kiva.org grameenfoundation.org Given the type of organizations I think they may be within the default group of 'public service ads' within the Backup Ads setting. If the issue doesn't completely resolve itself soon (one customer of ours complained today, even though I blocked them 5+ days ago), I'll disable public service ads and select the 'fill space with a solid color' option.

  • Drawing out a document with strategies for coping with "disasters"

    Does anyone happen to know of some guidelines for writing up a document for coping with possible disaster scenarios ? By disaster I mean anything that could lead to loss of work, time or eventually a client. I seem to remember reading an article along these lines but, unfortunately, I can't find it anymore. So I'd appreciate some feedback in this direction. I think such an approach would be useful in the company I'm in right now as we've had the occasional scare which might have been avoided with some preventative thinking.

    I want to create a "Human powered document processing" website in a formed as a gaming mechanic that will prompt volunteers to weed out text missed by OCR (optical character reader) The challenge is that the OCR output often contains errors and omissions, which hampers searches. Manual corrections is needed to weed out these mistakes, so that the text become machine readable.. I want to accomplish these task by splitting dull repetitive task into tiny microtasks and distributing then to register contributors on my site. I want to digitalized pedigree books into an online database. I want to recreate recaptcha and http://www.digitalkoot.fi/en/splash all roll into one.. Help!!!! What programing languages is best needed to create a recapctch type website and is there any open source project similar to this I can use? I need a some directions to begin this project, so all and any help will be great.

  • SQL 2008 SP2 RsClientPrint ActiveX - "Unable to load client print control"

    We recently updated our SQL 2008 server to use SP 2 and its causing a few headaches. We use SSRS on this server and when a client tries to print a report by the built-in print function, we're needing to download the RsClientPrint ActiveX control from the server from the client gets the following error Unable to load client print control. We have about 700 computers that are needing this fixed and I've followed the instructions found on the following URL: http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/client-side-printing-silent-deployment-of-rsclientPrint.aspx We have two issues: Most of the users who will be using this ActiveX control are not local administrators so they will not be able to install the control themselves Since there are so many computers, this has to be done silently behind the scenes run by a local admin account After following the information from the link above, we're able to put the files in the C:\Windows\System32 folder and register the DLL but we still get the same problem. The only small thing I've noticed is that in the HTML for the report page, everything that references a version is referencing version 2007.100.4000.00 and the version of the DLL that I pulled from the report server is 2007.100.1600.22. Also, for some clients that are local administrators, they are prompted every time to install the ActiveX control when they click print. This works successfully but we can't have the user asked if they want to install the same control every time they need to print.

  • Print server not being recognized after switching router and upgrading to 64 bit

    I recently upgraded Windows 7 from 32 bit to 64 bit. I also switched my router from a very old model of Netgear to TP-Link. Before these updates, I had been using a USB print server by IOGear. After the updates, I took care to reinstall the drivers for both the print server and the printer, and picked the option to install a printer via TCP/IP, but no matter what I did, the driver software couldn't locate the print server on my network. I hit refresh, restarted my machine, turned off the firewalls and tried again. Still nothing. I'm at my wit's end. What else is left to try? Edit: More info. The print server is connected to the router via LAN line. The computer is connected to the router with a wireless connection.

  • Remote desktop to particular server tries to send print job

    We have a domain network with about 30 computers and an active directory on Windows Server SBS 2003 32bit. Whenever I connect to this server from my Windows 7 Pro 32bit client, it automatically attempts to send some sort of print job. It fails to print however and the printer never seems to receive the job. I have been seeing this happen on every computer which connects to this particular server. It seems to send these print jobs repeatedly, and to different printers, if more than one are installed. As soon as I cancel one print job, it starts another, repeats a few times and finally stops. What could be going on here? PS - I originally thought this was related to MS OneNote but this turns out to happen on computers which do not have OneNote.

  • Add and remove letterhead in Word document

    Our company has letterheaded paper (pre-printed paper with our logo on it). Whenever we send something out by mail, we print it on that paper. However, when we send the same document via email, we convert it to a PDF file. Now the problem is: when converting a Word document to PDF, it should contain the letterhead. When printing the same document on paper, it should not (or else the letterhead would be printed twice). Currently, we are using two different Word document templates - one with letterhead, one without. So whenever we want to add or remove the letterhead, we have to create a new document with the other template and copy and paste everything over. Nasty solution. What I'm looking for is some simple way to switch the letterhead on and off. What I've tried so far: Switching the template: There does not seem to be a simple way to switch the template for an existing document. Using a picture watermark: Our letterhead goes all the way to the border of the page. (No printer supports this, of course, but it is fine for export to PDF.) Apparently depending on the current default printer, Word will not allow a borderless watermark, instead shifting the image around. Using the page header: When editing the page header, I can insert pictures at arbitrary positions, which is great. However, I could not find a way (short of macros) to enable/disable just the pictures in the header. (The text should remain there.)

  • Server 2008 R2 - Cannot add HP UPD PCL 6 - Failed with error 0x000000002

    I am having a problem with adding a print driver to one of our 2008 R2 RDS servers. On all other RDS servers in the farm there is no problem. The print server is 2008 R2. The HP Universal Print Driver PCL 6 is installed on the print server. When trying to add a printer with the driver on the failing RDS server i just get the error "Cannnot connect to the printer. Failed with errorcode 0x00000002" I have tried to add the driver to the RDS server localy but it fails with the same error. The driver has been installed before and is currently visible in the printmanagement.msc. When trying to remove the print driver i am unable to do it because it's "Currently in use" What to do? Have tried everyting - i think :-) Thanks. /Rasmus

    Tengo un servidor con 8GB de RAM de 32 bits, instale windows server 2003 enterprise y sql server 2005 enterprise, el Sistema Operativo reconoce los 8GB, pero el Sql Server solo usaba 1.6 GB de memoria, entonces agregue al boot.ini el parametro /PAE y en Sql Server le habilite AWE de 1GB a 5GB, despues de reiniciar el servidor el Sistema que usa la BD estaba mas rapido mejoro bastante, pero en memoria el Sql Server solo usa 100 MB, veo la cantidad de memoria usada en el Administrador de Tareas de Windows, y no se si esta funcionando AWE o que sucedio? We updated all of our Windows 7 clients last Friday and it looks like the mighty "Unable to load client print control" has returned since then. Anyone aware of possible problems with the latest batch of Windows Updates?

  • Printer spooler service stop running when sent print job

    Every time i am sending a print job to the printer, i am don't get any response from the printer, and at the printer job list at the status of the job, i see that there was an Error, but it don't give me any clue on what could be the problem. After some investigation i found that every time that i send the print job to the printer the printer spooler service stops to run, then after a second or two it start again (i think that this behavior is related to the printer spooler settings to rerun it self after it stops). Things that i have tried so far: Remove and Install again the Driver. After removing the driver, i have removed the unnecessary registry keys according to this article from Microsoft, these are: Rename all files and folders in: c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86 Remove anything but Drivers Print and Processors: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environment\Windows NT x86 Remove anything in here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors but: BJ Language Monitor Local Port Microsoft Document Imaging Writer Monitor Microsoft Shared Fax Monitor Standard TCP/IP Port USB Monitor WSD Port Disconnect and Reconnect the Printer. Clean the computer from Viruses & Spywares. Currently i am stuck, i have no more things to try, if anybody know about any kind of solution please let me know about it. Since i am want to keep this post as general problem that relate to the printer spooler, and not just my particular problem, i didn't included inside the windows version & the printer model, they are (although i think that it isn't relate just for that particular model): Windows 7 32bit, HP Officejet 4500 G510g-m (connect to the computer via USB).   • Misbehaving Network Printers - options?

    We are having some issue with printers on our network. We have 3 floors, 2 printers per floor (A3 & A4) all connected to the same Print Server. The issue is that the same printer may not behave the same on two different, seemingly identical desktops. The commonest place this is seen on our bulk print script in AutoCAD - occasionally drawings may print Landscape on Portrait paper, despite drawings always being Landscape... Does any one have any suggestions on what we can check / try? The current line of attack is to setup a new Print Server, with the HP universal print driver rather than the device specific drivers, and replace printers using exactly the same method on all desktops. Sound good?

In order to see the preview please visit chrome//plugins/, enable the Chrome PDF Viewer, and try again. When I check my plugins, I find that Chrome PDF Viewer is already enabled. Why can't I print?
