  • Windows 7: enabling navigation of subfolders in pinned Start Menu folders

    I'm just about to move from Windows XP to Windows 7, and I'm struggling with some of the interface changes. In XP, I was able to throw a folder intoC:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menuand have it appear on the Start Menu, complete with the ability to navigate through subfolders. I've figured out how to pin a folder onto the Start Menu in Windows 7, which required a registry hack. However, I am unable to view the subfolders of the pinned folder without opening a new Windows Explorer window. Is there any way to replicate the old XP behavior I'm used to? I'd like to be only a single click away from these handful of application links and folders, since I use them all the time throughout the day.

  • Burn Image context menu item missing in Windows 7

    My understanding is that in Windows 7 if I right click an ISO image I should have an option Burn Image, or if I double click an ISO I should get a dialog to let me burn the image.... Not happening for me, any idea's why? Edit: 29th April. I do have isoburn.exe in my system32 directory, and it works just fine if I launch it manually from cmd. However I simply do not have the context menu when I right click on a iso file. So my more specific question is, does anyone know how to simply restore this context menu item, an entry in the registry perhaps? (but where and what)

    At the moment I'm using context menus a lot to access commands in Firefox, but I would like to replace this repetitive clicking and searching with keyboard shortcuts for the common tasks that I perform. How to assign keys to add-on functionality? E.g. I use Close Other Tabs from Tab Mix Plus a lot - but I could not find any add-on that allows me to create a key combination for it e.g. Ctrl Alt Shift F4? My search did yield Key config, but this extension does not allow mapping to add-on functions I thought Menu Editor might be relevant, as you can change menus with it, and re-arrange even add-on items A rather demanding solution here, which seems to require re-compiling some jar files Customizing menu shortcuts in Firefox

  • Start Menu freezes when highlighting 'All Programs'

    Hey all, A friends machine is lagging for about 30 seconds when they highlight 'All Programs'. A gray box popus up where the program menu would be, but it doesnt populate for nearly 30 seconds. This seems to happen if he hasn't open the start menu for a bit.. but if he get's it working once, doing it immediatly afterwards will usually not have the same lag. Assuming computer hardware isn't an issue, any ideas what the problem may be? Sidenote: He mentioned making desktop shortcuts is taking long as well, does that give any clues?

    Can anyone point me to an application development environment that uses menu-driven coding? This would mean where commands, variable names, etc. are not keyed in, but rather are selected from a menu of context-specific options. For example, the user selects an If...then command from a menu of commands, and is then presented with a menu of variables to choose from for the the 'if' conditions(s) (or creates new variable(s) on the fly via the menu), and is then presented with a menu of applicable functions that are applicable to the selected variable (e.g., val()), and so on until the If...then statement has been fully coded. The idea is that the user never types any portion of the code, but selects all code elements from a menu, or defines them on the fly via the menu. Thanks.

  • Link to user directory displayed with wrong name in start menu

    In the start menu the link to my user directory is displayed with a wrong name e.g. foo When I click on the link in the start menu the explorer opens my correct user directory but the addressbar still names it foo. However, when I open a cmd from that directory the location is correctly shown as C:\Users\myUserName. Furthermore there is no C:\Users\foo directory. How can I fix this (i.e. ths link in the startmenu should be named myUserName)?

  • Align col in a bootstrap collapsable menu

    I got my hands on bootstrap recently and I'm still discovering it. I made collapsable menu from a tutorial online but now that I want to had an image on each entry of my menu that I wasn't expecting. I want my image to be always aligned to the text in the menu but it still getting on top of it. I tried to remove row and col tag and forget about the responsiveness of my menu but it still doesn't work...   • WPF: Menu Items only bind command parameters once.

    Ive noticed this a couple of times when using menus with commands, they are not very dynamic, check this out. I am creating a menu from a collection of colours, I use it to colour a column in a datagrid. Anyway when i first bring up the menu (its a context menu) the command parameter binding happens and it binds to the column that the context menu was opened on. However the next time i bring it up it seems wpf caches the menu and it doesnt rebind the command parameter. so i can set the colour only on the initial column that the context menu appeared on.   • Telerik MVC: Telerik Menu Drops down Under Telerik Grid

    I have just added a Telerik menu to my MVC application. I also have many views that render Telerik grids on them. Problem: My menu has one item with sub items. When I hover over that menu item, the dropdown slides beneath the Telerik Grid, which hides most of the sub items and makes it impossible to click them. Any idea how to make the menu dropdown slide over the grid instead of under it?

  • How do the performance characteristics of jQuery selectors differ from those of CSS selectors?

    I came across Google's Page Speed add-on for Firebug yesterday. The page about using efficient CSS selectors said to not use overqualified selectors, i.e. use #foo instead of div#foo. I thought the latter would be faster but Google's saying otherwise, and who am I to go against that? So that got me wondering if the same applied to jQuery selectors. This page I found the link to on SO says I should use $("div#foo"), which is what I was doing all along, since I thought that things would speed up by limiting the selector to match div elements only. But is it really better than writing $("#foo") like Google's saying for CSS selectors, or do CSS versus jQuery element matching work in different ways and I should stick with $("div#foo")?

    I've writing a Gnome window-switcher applet in PyGtk+ using menu items to represent the different applications running on the desktop. One thing I'd like to do is to activate the menu item under the cursor when I hover over the menubar. I can connect to the 'enter-notify-event' on the menu bar, but I don't know what to when it is triggered. The problem is (i think) that most of them, do not apply in asp pages. So the question is how can i place the footer with pure CSS in Asp pages?     I have some modifications I want to make WITHOUT installing extensions. eg: max width of tab and height of menu, In previous versions you could have it done via: about:config ->browser.tabs.tab.maxWidth Since FF4 it should be done with CSS. Now I searched the default theme: C:\Users\wetcat\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\feriz.default and C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox In the second I could find the extension - theme but without any CSS. In the AppData I couldn't find any CSS or theme folder. WHERE is the file to create or alter the CSS?? I'm using Firefox 11.

  • drop down menu will not display outside containing div in IE7..

    I am tearing my hair out over this, I have a dropdown menu using CSS and jQuery (thanks to Soh Tanaka) and it works perfectly in Firefox, Safari, Google chrome and I.E. 8, but in IE 7 it will not drop down outside the 'Banner div'. It drops below the nav div however. I have moved the nav div higher in the banner the result is the same, menu drops until it reaches the border of the banner div and then vanishes.... Below is the css. This is my first website and I have some limited understanding of what I am doing. The drop down menu includes transparent png's as links (I know, I know...but it's what the Boss wants...) please could someone take a quick scan at the below CSS and let me know what is wroong? Is this some form of the IE z-index bug? i have tried all different combinations of z-index and still I can't get a different result. . The html is below as well. I know similar question is in here but it's not good with using Win+X Editor, because it doesn't add Underlined key for shortcuts that added with that and it's not good without having quickly underlined key. I want do that for maually Context menu folder is: C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WinX And hide desktop.ini files is as bellows (in ...\WinX\group2\desktop.ini) [LocalizedFileNames] 1 - Run.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-12710 4 - Control Panel.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-4161 5 - Task Manager.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\authui.dll,-12139 3 - Windows Explorer.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-22067 2 - Search.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-30517 I copied sevices.msc shortcut into above path in group2 folder and add this line 6 - Sevices.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\sevices.msc,????? in desktop.ini file. First Question: I don't know If this line 6 - Sevices.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\sevices.msc,-????? that I added is correct or not? Also I don't know what to use instead of -????? Last Question: Why desktop.ini contents is not Sorted. I triyed to manually sort them but when I restart Explorer again it was become out of order.Why?

  • Very slow context menu in Windows 8

    I've installed Windows 8 Pro on a blank new SSD, the system is on c:\. I do not think this problem was existent when I started using Windows 8 but I think it started to happen after I've symlinked (mklink /D) a folder from another drive, a SATA drive, to c:\xampp\htdocs. When I right click a file or folder inside the symlinked folder it always takes at least ~5-10 seconds until the context menu comes up. This also happens sometimes, but not all the time for files and folder outside of the symlinked folder. Also when I delete folders the delete folder dialog seems to get locked and does not continue. When I delete a folder using rmdir from the command line it works fine and pretty fast. It appears to me like the file explorer in Windows 8 is pretty bad compared to any other Windows I've used before? Any idea how to get these problems solved? I've already removed a lot of context menu entries; the only ones left are the tortoise git context menus but I'm sure that's not the problem.
