  • Javascript: Controlling the order that event handlers / listeners are exeucted in

    Once again the IE Monster has hit me with an odd problem. I'm writing some changes into an asp.net site I inherited a while back. One of the problems is that in some pages there are several controls that add javascript functions as handlers to the onload event (using YUI if that matters). Some of those event handlers assume certain other functions have been executed. This is well and good in Firefox and IE7 as the handlers seem to execute in order of registration. IE8 on the other hand does this backwards. I could go with some kind of double-checking approach but given the controls are present in several pages I feel that'd create even more dependencies. So I've started cooking up my own queue class that I push the functions to and can control their execution order. Then I'll register an onload handler that instructs the queue to execute in my preferred order. I'm part way through that and have started wondering 2 things: Am I going OTT? Am I reinventing the wheel? Anyone have any insights? Any clean solutions that allow me to easily enforce execution order?

  • How to Use JQuery Click Event on Button in an AJAX Form

    I admittedly don't know much about JQuery but I have an AJAX page where I need to trigger a click event when someone clicks a button, but because the button is not there on the initial page load, I'm having issues using the click event. In my code, I just want to run a function when a button is clicked. <script type="text/javascript"> //Run function when button is clicked $(document).ready(function() { $("#idOfButton").click(function() { doSomething(); }); }); //The function I want ran when page visitor clicks button function doSomething() { //Do Something } </script> Obviously this code doesn't work, but any suggestions on how to use .click? I'm only able to insert JS via a tag management system, so I can't hard code anything into the page. Also, the JQuery version is 1.4, so I can't use .on. Thanks for your help.

If you are just installing the tools for the first time, this update replaces previously released October patch. In fact, it is no longer available as this January 2011 update replaces the patch entirely. What is in this update? TextBox support for Copy&Paste Updated Emulator Image that contains Copy&Paste for your testing There have been performance tweaks for the OS Minor Bugs and Fixes How does it Work? The Copy&Paste extends a existing TextBox control to have this new functionality, There is no current API access to the Clipboard or support for other controls that are not based on TextBox. If I have/Do I need to: A current application in the marketplace/No action is required Have an application that contains a TextBox in a Pivot or Panorama control surface/Text your application in provided emulator Recommendation is to move TextBox controls from directly top of controls that listen to Gesture movement to their own pop-off screens or entire pages as this might interfear with select behavior for Copy&Paste Have controls that do no inherit from TextBox/Such controls will not get new Copy&Paste behavior Note: The update materials, FAQ and Q&A do not answer WHEN the update for the OS will be sent to the phones.  Also to note - this update does NOT update your developer phone to enable Copy&Paste or any other features.     I applied for a Web developer job in Quebec City and they call me back for a phone interview everything went well it last for over a hours and at the end they ask me to send code simple and a portfolio but in my research about the company and their products I found a PHP error(bug) in their app. Should I tell them or I will look like a total jerk and blew my chance for a interview? I know it might sound stupid, as a Jr developer I did 2 interviews they didn't went so well and I am very interested in this position part of my question is like a big lack of confidence so to make it short should I tell them about where is the error and how to fix it?   • Web Developer interview questions

    I read an article today that listed some basic questions about web development: Describe how POST data was submitted to a server by a browser. Explain a number of HTTP status codes (except maybe 404 and 500). Explain SOLID or name a design pattern. Explain ways to improve a page load speed or user experience. The author says "if you can’t answer the questions above there are a lot of people who wouldn’t think of you as a Senior Web Developer." My questions are: How relevant are these questions in respect to real life web programming and scalability? How true is that statement? In other words, do you consider this knowledge a requirement to be considered a Senior Web Developer? I was able to answer all the questions, too easily it seemed, so I'm wondering whether it is effective to use these or similar questions to screen developers rather than asking them to write sample code.

  • Capture *all* display-characters in JavaScript?

    I was given an unusual request recently that I'm having the most difficult time addressing that involves capturing all display-characters when typed into a text box. The set up is as follows: I have a text box that has a maxlength of 10 characters. When the user attempts to type more than 10 characters, I need to notify the user that they're typing beyond the character count limit. The simplest solution would be to specify a maxlength of 11, test the length on every keyup, and truncate back down to 10 characters but this solution seems a bit kludgy. What I'd prefer to do is capture the character before keyup and, depending on whether or not it is a display-character, present the notification to the user and prevent the default action. A white-list would be challenging since we handle a lot of international data. I've played around with every combination of keydown, keypress, and keyup, reading event.keyCode, event.charCode, and event.which, but I can't find a single combination that works across all browsers.   • jQuery event.stopPropagation is not working on <a>

    I have the following javascript: $('#ge-display').click(function (event) { window.open('/googleearth/ge-display.php','','scrollbars=yes,menubar=no,height=650,width=1000,resizable=yes,toolbar=yes,location=no,status=no'); event.stopPropagation(); return false; }); the element with id 'ge-display' is a standard link: <a href="/googleearth/ge-display.php" id="ge-display" target="_blank">Load Google Earth Plugin (in a new window)</a> The problem is - when I take out the 'return false;' line from the click event handler, the javascript popup opens, and then another browser window opens - I thought stopPropagation() would prevent the links own click handler? I've also tried stopImmediatePropagation() - but I still need to return false to stop the default behaviour of the link.

I decided to work on Java first, but I have changed my mind because I don't have any Java programming background except Java class in master degree so I decided to work on C# because it was easy to me to work with Visual Studio and it's fun to me to work with SQL database and HTML stuffs. And I am a member of a IT consultant company in Reston where I took course from there about .net and I created online recruitment system for their web site. Now I am applying for CPT (internship) but I didn't work in a company as a .net developer so I don't have experience. Here is my question. If I get CPT and find a job, what do software companies want from an entry level .net developer? and what do they ask as interview questions?
