  • Upgrade to 11.10 caused rt2800usb module to be blacklisted

    I just upgraded from Kubuntu 11.04 to 11.10, and I noticed that after the upgrade my USB wireless card was no longer recognized. It turns out that the rt2800usb module had been added (automatically, I assume, unless previously the module had been loading despite being blacklisted) to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf. I re-enabled the wireless card by commenting out the blacklist line and adding rt2800usb to /etc/modules, but I was wondering if there was a reason for rt2800usb being added to the blacklist.

  • Very frequent system problems since 12.10 upgrade

    Since I recently upgrade my 12.04 install to 12.10, there is loads more instability generally. I have captured just the latest example - often occurring just after startup and login. Other random times, similar things happen - not always the same executable is reported - might be many different problems. Is everyone finding 12.10 a bit unstable (in which case I can hope for fixes to filter through over the coming months)?

  • 13.10 upgrade dropping wifi [on hold]

    Almost a complete newb here. After my last upgrade from 12.04 to 13.10 my wifi now randomly drops. The only way I can get a signal back is a shutdown and restart otherwise it shows no network is even available to connect to. Had no problems until the upgrade. Any help would be appreciated.     I just performed the upgrade from Ubuntu 11.10 to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. The updater downloaded all packages but a few ones that the system said were already installed. When asked for it, I chose to install the new maintainer's version of grub. Now after that my system start up to the login page, some images won't load. Moreover, after I try to login, the graphical instance does not load, it just sits there showing the mouse pointer and nothing else.

  • How to upgrade a 1.4.3 TortoiseSVN created repository to 1.6.x?

    A few years ago we deployed TortoiseSVN 1.4.3 to our software development team and we used this client to create a repository on a share point. We are now looking at upgrading to the latest 1.6.x version of TortoiseSVN. I had hoped this would be transparent as the additional features and modifications will all be client-side. For the most part this is true except for a very important feature -- merging. When I try to merge a feature branch back into truck I get a "Merge tracking not supported error." So now the question becomes, how does one upgrade a 1.4.3 TortoiseSVN created repo to be compatible with the latest 1.6.x version of TortoiseSVN? As a follow up question, if we were to successfully upgrade the repo such that the 1.6.x client works flawlessly, will we still be backwards compatible with a 1.4.x client?

I read at the official Ubuntu-Support-Page, that there is a update-manager-core-Package to upgrade to a new release. Unfortunately I dont have this package installed and I am unable to install it because of the lack of package sources. EDIT: Installing the package update-manager-core from another release doesn't work because it depends on a higher version of python-apt. (Tried with 10.04) $ dpkg -i update-manager-core_0.134.7_amd64.deb Selecting previously deselected package update-manager-core. (Reading database ... 28743 files and directories currently installed.) Unpacking update-manager-core (from update-manager-core_0.134.7_amd64.deb) ... dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of update-manager-core: update-manager-core depends on python-apt (>= 0.7.13.4ubuntu3); however: Version of python-apt on system is 0.7.9~exp2ubuntu10. update-manager-core depends on python-gnupginterface; however: Package python-gnupginterface is not installed. dpkg: error processing update-manager-core (--install): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured Errors were encountered while processing: update-manager-core So, whats the best way to upgrade to to current Release without reinstalling the complete (virtual) server?

  • View changelog of all packages to be upgraded before upgrading

    When using synaptic on my Ubuntu desktop computer i can review all changelog of all the packages to be upgraded, and unselect a package for upgrade if I want. On my desktop I usually install everything, but I like to at least review what the changes are so that I can delay the upgrade if I suspect it could cause problems with the development tools I use. On a server (Ubuntu Server) with no x-server how can I do the same thing on the console: list all packages that will be updated (apt-get --dry-run upgrade does this along with a lot of noisy simulated install messages), view the changelog (if any) from last upgrade to the version it will be upgraded to. select which packages I want to ignore, or which I want to upgrade I've searched a lot for this but I haven't found anything, possibly I'm not using the correct terminology; but surely this must be possible. Synaptic must get it's info from some some low-level tool I assume? Complicated shellscripts are welcome too, if this is not already easily done with the existing tools.

When I made a search, I could see that there are blogs about upgrading projects with Ajax 1.0 to .Net 3.5 version. However I could not find useful links for upgrading to .Net 4.5. Do we have any useful links for that? Or is it an unworkable approach? Note: As of now we have not purchased VS2013 and servers for this. Purchase depends on the feasibility study.     I have been requested to investigate how I can reduce the downtime of our website upgrades. We maintain a DNN site with both public facing pages and member only pages. The member only pages are directly linked to our core application database while the public pages are not. Our current process is to redirect website users as soon as the upgrade process begins, which includes Backup of the Prod DB Update Prod DB Update Executables (Application) Upgrade Website Application (If this requires an update) Install Dependencies Upgrade sub systems like communication engine and payment broker Update various configuration files Perform testing of systems Restart all services Allow access to site This process can take from 2 to 8 hours depending on upgrade required, scripts to be run, size of database and number or portals. My initial thoughts are to restrict users to read only pages and any update pages would be unavailable. Could anyone please offer suggestions as to the best practices for what I would think to be a common problem so that we can reduce this down time and if we need infrastructure changes, I can put this to our technical department.

  • Is it Okay to use Natty kernel in Lucid system?

    I have seen some people saying to install the kernel of Ubuntu 11.04 (probably 2.6.38..) to use on Ubuntu 10.04 (2.6.35...may be) to only be able to use a Wimax device driver without upgrading their whole Ubuntu System. I find in this method something wrong, but I cannot argue as they are saying that it is OK!!. I tried to insist to upgrade to the latest Ubuntu version with all the software. But I also have the question myself : Does upgrading only the kernel is Okay ? or in other words, Is it OK to have Lucid (10.04) system with Natty(11.04) kernel (by adding Natty's repository and removing it after upgrade). What are the possible problems ? What about using Precises' kernel in Lucid system?
