    Hey i got this Table: CREATE TABLE Test_Table ( old_val VARCHAR2(3), new_val VARCHAR2(3), Updflag NUMBER, WorkNo NUMBER ); and this is in my Table: INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('1',' 20',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('2',' 20',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('2',' 30',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('3',' 30',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('4',' 40',0,0); INSERT INTO Test_Table (old_val, new_val, Updflag , WorkNo) VALUES('4',' 40',0,0); now my Table Looks like this: Row Old_val New_val Updflag WorkNo 1 '1' ' 20' 0 0 2 '2' ' 20' 0 0 3 '2' ' 30' 0 0 4 '3' ' 30' 0 0 5 '4' ' 40' 0 0 6 '5' ' 40' 0 0 (if the value in the new_val column are same then they are together and the same goes to old_val) so in the example above row 1-4 are together and row 5-6 at the moment i have in my Stored Procedure a cursor: SELECT t1.Old_val, t1.New_val, t1.updflag, t1.WorkNo FROM Test_Table t1 WHERE t1.New_val = ( SELECT t2.New_val FROM Test_Table t2 WHERE t2.Updflag = 0 AND t2.Worknr = 0 AND ROWNUM = 1 ) the output is this: Row Old_val New_val Updflag WorkNo 1 1 20 0 0 2 2 20 0 0 my Problem is, i dont know how to get row 1 to 4 with one select. (i had an idea with 4 sub-querys but this wont work if its more data that matches together) does anyone of you have an idea?

    I use the following stored procedure from my SQL Server 2008 database to return a value to my C#-Program ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[getArticleBelongsToCatsCount] @id int AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON; DECLARE @result int; set @result = (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM art_in_cat WHERE child_id = @id); return @result; END I use a SQLCommand-Object to call this Stored Procedure public int ExecuteNonQuery() { try { return _command.ExecuteNonQuery(); } catch (Exception e) { Logger.instance.ErrorRoutine(e, "Text: " + _command.CommandText); return -1; } } Till recently, everything works fine. All of a sudden, the stored procedure returned -1. At first, I suspected, that the ExecuteNonQuery-Command would have caused and Exception, but when stepping through the function, it shows that no Exception is thrown and the return value comes directly from return _command.ExecuteNonQuery(); I checked following parameters and they were as expected: - Connection object was set to the correct database with correct access values - the parameter for the SP was there and contained the right type, direction and value Then I checked the SP via SQLManager, I used the same value for the parameter like the one for which my C# brings -1 as result (btw. I checked some more parameter values in my C' program and they ALL returned -1) but in the manager, the SP returns the correct value. It looks like the call from my C# prog is somehow bugged, but as I don't get any error (it's just the -1 from the SP), I have no idea, where to look for a solution.

    I'm recently change my data table, I remove column and add a new column that define as identity = True and identity seed = 1, identity increment = 1. When i tried to insert data to this table by STORE PROCEDURE i get this exception: An explicit value for the identity column in table 'AirConditioner' can only be specified when a column list is used and IDENTITY_INSERT is ON. I saw that i need to add this lines: SET IDENTITY_INSERT [dbo].[AirConditioner] ON and finally OFF I added and its still throw an exception... My store procedure is attached as a picture

  • IF/ELSE makes stored procedure not return a result set

    I have a stored procedure that needs to return something from one of two databases: IF @x = 1 SELECT @y FROM Table_A ELSE IF @x = 2 SELECT @y FROM Table_B Either SELECT alone will return what I want, but adding the IF/ELSE makes it stop returning anything. I tried: IF @x = 1 RETURN SELECT @y FROM Table_A ELSE IF @x = 2 RETURN SELECT @y FROM Table_B But that causes a syntax error. The two options I see are both horrible: Do a UNION and make sure that only one side has any results: SELECT @y FROM Table_A WHERE @x = 1 UNION SELECT @y FROM Table_B WHERE @x = 2 Create a temporary table to store one row in, and create and delete it every time I run this procedure (lots). Neither solution is elegant, and I assume they would both be horrible for performance (unless MS SQL is smart enough not to search the tables when the WHERE class is always false). Is there anything else I can do? Is option 1 not as bad as I think?

I try to go to the properties but it does not have "none" as a choice and I can't type it in. It should be "none" so how do I set it to "none"?

    Hi al, we have 5 tables over which we should query with user search input throughout a stored procedure. We do a union all of the similar data inside a view. Because of this the view can not be materialized. We are not able to change these 5 tables drastically (like creating a 6th table that contains the similar data of the 5 tables and reference that new one from the 5 tables). The query is rather expensive / slow what are our other options? It's allowed to think outside the box. I'm afraid that I use variables when it's possible do not.     Hello, I'm trying to implement a facebook search in my system (auto suggest while typing). I've managed to code all the ajax stuff, but I'm not sure how to query the database. I've created a table called People which contains the fields: ID, FirstName, LastName, MiddleName, Email. I've also created a FTS-index on all those fields. I want to create a stored procedure that will get as a parameter the text inserted in the query box and returns the suggestions. For example, When I will write in the textbox the query "Joh Do" It will translate to the query: select * from People where contains(*, '"Joh*"') and contains(*, '"Do*"') Is there a way to do that in stored procedure? P.S I've tried to use the syntax select * from People where contains(*,'"Joh*" and "Do*"') but it didn't returned the expected results, probably because it needs to search the words on different fields. Is there a way to fix that? Thanks.

    We use SQL server 2008 as our RDBMS and we have a database that has a different user rather than dbo as its owner. The problem is in one machine a stored procedure can not run unless its owner is mentioned. If we connect to our database using this user and try to execute the following : exec ourSP we get a "could not find ourSP" error but this works fine: exec user.ourSP Does anybody knows what can lead to such a strange behavior?

So first I am wondering can I merge those into one SP? I am not sure how it works with this OPENXML but I would think it would just be making sure that the XPath is right. Next what happens while it would be running this combined SP and something goes wrong. Would it roll back all the records or just stop and the records that happened before this event that crashed it would be inserted?

I need to get the 2 datasets into a structure in VB .net (e.g. linq, sqldatareader, typed datasets) so that I can code with them, I don't know what tables any of this comes from and there are alot of them Whooopeee!!! I came close using Linq to SQL and IMultipleResults but got frustrated when I had to recode it every time I made a change to the designer file. My feelings are that there must be a simple way to do this, any ideas?

    I'm trying to modify a stored procedure hooked into an ORM tool. I want to add a few more rows based on a loop of some distinct values in a column. Here's the current SP: SELECT GRP = STAT_CD, CODE = REASN_CD FROM dbo.STATUS_TABLE WITH (NOLOCK) Order by STAT_CD, SRT_ORDR For each distinct STAT_CD, I'd also like to insert a REASN_CD of "--" here in the SP. However I'd like to do it before the order by so I can give them negative sort orders so they come in at the top of the list. I'm getting tripped up on how to implement this. Does anyone know how to do this for each unique STAT_CD?

But since i change my OS to Windows 7 all my projects started to show a message when i'm trying to compile them that says "Stored procedure (SPname). Doesn't found or doesn't exist in the server. I look my server and it has the Sp with the correct name. i used ODBC connection and try the SQL Server and the SQL Native client 10.0 but the problem continues. the projects connect to the D.B with no problem until i try to run a SP. if i run the same projects in a vista again they work fine. If any of you can help me i really appreciate.......

    I have a set of 10 tables in a database (DB1). And there are 10 tables in another database (DB2) with exact same schema on the same SQL Server 2008 R2 database server machine. The 10 tables in DB1 are frequently updated with data. I intend to write a stored procedure that would run once every day for synchronizing the 10 tables in DB1 with DB2. The stored procedure would make use of the MERGE statement. Now, my aim is to make this as generic and parametrized as possible. That is, accommodate for more tables down the line... and accommodate different source and target DB names. Definitely no hard coding is intended. This is my algorithm so far: Have the database names as parameters Have the first query within the stored procedure... result in giving the names of the 10 tables from a lookup table (this can be 10, 20 or whatever) Have a generic MERGE statement that does the sync for each of the above set of tables (based on primary key?) This is where I need more inputs on. What is the best way to achieve this stored procedure? SQL syntax would be helpful.
