  • Do browsers allows pages loaded on one tab to access/intercept/inject data in other tabs?

    I was surprised to hear from this Reuters video that it was possible for a page loaded on one tab to access and/or inject data onto another page loaded on a different tab. TL;DW (too lazy; didn't watch) The interviewee in the video suggests that when doing online banking, the user exit his browser (thus closing all windows) and start a new browser session with just your banking page/tab open. Allegedly, malicious sites can check if you have your banking site open and inject commands onto those sites. Can someone confirm and/or deny this claim? Is it only possible even if there is not parent/child relationship between windows/tabs?

  • Is it possible to add your own bookmarks/tabs to a PDF file?

    Hi folks, I've purchases a few e-books and love it. Some come with a massive list of bookmarks (kewl!) and some not. Regardless, is there a way i can create my OWN bookmarks so i can jump to specific pages? I don't want to mess up the current list of official bookmarks that came with the e-books (where they were provided). It's like i want to add my own sticky note tabs so i can quickly jump between pages etc, without having to remember the page number. Also, this is for Adobe reader (the free thingy). If it's available in another program (eg. Foxit, please say so also :) ) cheers!

    I principally use Firefox both at home and at work, but on occasion I use Chrome. I have Firefox working the way I like it by having it open bookmarks in a new tab when left clicked, as well, URLs open in new tabs. Although having URLs open in a new tab can be annoying if I type a bad URL, I still prefer it, but that's neither here nor there. I would like to replicate this behaviour in Chrome, and can't seem to find anything relavent in the settings. Is there any way of doing this without an extension? If not, can you point me towards an appropriate extension (I've already done a search and can't find what I'm looking for)?

  • How to install IE9 when KB2120976 is not applicable to my Windows 7 x86 Ultimate edition?

    I'm trying to install IE9, visit http://beautyoftheweb.com, download it and then says it's downloading prereqs. After a minute, the installer says there's a problem and directs me to Prerequisites for installing Internet Explorer 9 Beta I click on the x86 installers one by one... most say "already installed".. But http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2120976/ says "The update is not applicable to your computer". Lame. So I try the IE9 install and the go through the whole process again with the same result. I discovered there's an IE9 install log at C:\Windows\IE9_main.log which logs the install process and reports an Error for 2120976 00:06.630: ERROR: Error installing prerequisite file (C:\Users\Vijay\AppData\Local\Temp\IE98036.tmp\KB2120976_x86.msu): 0x80240017 (2149842967) 00:06.677: INFO: PauseOrResumeAUThread: Successfully resumed Automatic Updates. 00:12.090: INFO: Link clicked, opening URL in new window:'http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=185111' 00:12.106: INFO: Setup exit code: 0x00009C47 (40007) - Required updates are missing from the system.are missing from the system.   • jQuery slideToggle() Internet Explorer problem and jumpy animation

    Hey yaa! I have a big problem with my jquery. I finally made it that my slidetoggle runs in firefox. The animation is a little bit jumpy in the end of the animation. I read a lot of workarounds, but somehow nothing helped me really. Perhaps anyone of you can rescue me out of this dilemma. The other bigger problem is that the hidden divs are unfortunately shown directly on start in internet explorer. I tested it in IE6&7. And the sliding effect is also very strange. Does anyone of you know if I have to give additional styling for IE??? Here is my site I am working on: http://www.haus-plan.de/%5F01%5FHausplan/ the red titles are slideable in the content area and the two Slide words on the right panel. I noticed that Internet Explorer runs the first Slide word on the right panel correctly. Here its div is first hidden and only shows up when we click and let it slide down.   • jQuery ajax success chaining Internet Explorer Issues

    I have a jQuery ajax function that retrieves JSON data. In the success block I call another function to parse the data and update the page. At the end of this parsing/updating function a different ajax call is made. This works perfectly in all browsers except Internet Explorer (7 and 8). The problem is Internet explorer thinks the script is taking too long to process because the success block from the first ajax call doesn't complete until the 2nd ajax call finishes. I get the message: "Stop running this script? A script on this page is causing your web browser to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer might become unresponsive." My jQuery code: $("#id_select").bind("change", function(e){ $.ajax({ url: "/retrieve_data.js", data: {id:$(e.target).children(":selected").attr("value")}, type: "get", dataType:"json", success: function(data, status, form){ processData(data); }, error: function(response, status){ alert(response.responseText); } }); }) Any suggestions on how to get IE to stop timing out or to accomplish this task without rewriting all my jQuery functions would be appreciated.

    Hi, I am trying to create a little helper application, one scenario is "file duplication finder". What I want to do is this: I start my C# .NET app, it gives me an empty list. Start the normal windows explorer, select a file in some folder The C# app tells me stuff about this file (e.g. duplicates) How can I monitor the currently selected file in the "normal" windows explorer instance. Do I have to start the instance using .NET to have a handle of the process. Do I need a handle, or is there some "global hook" I can monitor inside C#. Its a little bit like monitoring the clipboard, but not exactly the same...   • Object doesn't support property or method 'transformNode' in Internet Explorer 10 (Windows 8)

    I am having some JavaScript issues that seem to only occur in Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8 (IE 7, 8, and 9 all work fine). The basic jist of what I am doing is getting XML and XSL from a web service and then transforming them in JavaScript to render on the page using the Sys.Net.XMLDOM object. XMLDOM = Sys.Net.XMLDOM; var xsl = // XSL gotten from somewhere else var xmlString = // XML gotten from somewhere else as a string... var xml = new XMLDOM(xmlString); var content = xml.transformNode(xsl); When I use the above code in IE 10, I get: Object doesn't support property or method 'transformNode' Any ideas on why Internet Explorer 10 is doing this? EDIT I have also tried this: xmldoc = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.DOMDocument"); xmldoc.async = false; xmldoc.load(xml); xsldoc = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.DOMDocument"); xsldoc.async = false; xsldoc.load(xsl); var content = xmldoc.transformNode(xsldoc); Which works in all previous versions of IE, but in IE 10 I get: Reference to undeclared namespace prefix: 'atom'.

  • Internet Explorer table 1 pixel spacing problem

    I've found a strange problem with Internet Explorer related to table spacing and cannot find a way to work around it. An empty table results in a single pixel white space with Internet Explorer (6 and 7, 8 not yet tested), while all other browsers ignore the empty table.   • Remove Programs from the Open With Menu in Explorer

    Would you like to clean up the Open with menu in Windows Explorer?  Here’s how you can remove program entries you don’t want in this menu on any version of Windows. Have you ever accidently opened an mp3 with Notepad, or a zip file with Word?  If so, you’re also likely irritated that these programs now show up in the Open with menu in Windows Explorer every time you select one of those files.  Whenever you open a file type with a particular program, Windows will add an entry for it to the Open with menu.  Usually this is helpful, but it can also clutter up the menu with wrong entries. On our computer, we have tried to open a PDF file with Word and Notepad, neither which can actually view the PDF itself.  Let’s remove these entries.  To do this, we need to remove the registry entries for these programs.  Enter regedit in your Start menu search or in the Run command to open the Registry editor. Backup your registry first just in case, so you can roll-back any changes you make if you accidently delete the wrong value.  Now, browse to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \ Explorer \FileExts\ Here you’ll see a list of all the file extensions that are registered on your computer. Browse to the file extension you wish to edit, click the white triangle beside it to see the subfolders, and select OpenWithList.  In our test, we want to change the programs associated with PDF files, so we select the OpenWithList folder under .pdf. Notice the names of the programs under the Data column on the right.  Right-click the value for the program you don’t want to see in the Open With menu and select Delete. Click Yes at the prompt to confirm that you want to delete this value. Repeat these steps with all the programs you want to remove from this file type’s Open with menu.  You can go ahead and remove entries from other file types as well if you wish. Once you’ve removed the entries you didn’t want to see, check out the Open with menu in Explorer again.  Now it will be much more streamlined and will only show the programs you want to see. Conclusion This simple trick can help you keep your Open with menu tidy, and only show the programs you want in the list.  It can be irritating to accidently open files in programs that can’t even read them.  This trick works in all versions of Windows, including 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7.   • JQuery UI tabs: How do I navigate directly to a tab from another page?

    JQuery UI tabs are implemented by named anchors in an unordered list. When you hover over one of the tabs you can see this in the link shown at the foot of the browser: http://mysite/product/3/#orders Above would be the "orders" tab for example. JQuery obviously intercepts the click to this anchor and opens the tab instead. However if I bookmark the link above or link to it from elsewhere in the site the page does not open on the specific tab. In the tab initialisation block I was considering putting in some code that looks for a named anchor in the URL and, if it finds one, does an index lookup of the tabs and calls the select on it. This would mean it will still work with JS switched off. But is there an easier/nicer/better way?

  • Is MozyHome Remote Backup known to slow down Windows Explorer?

    Windows Explorer on my home machine is uber slow, and I suspect it is Mozy's fault. In the past Mozy has done some goofy stuff like placing file and folder icon overlays in Windows Explorer, which was really bugging me because I thought they were from TortoiseSVN (and I had uninstalled that!). Anyhow, does anyone else have Mozy installed? Is Windows Explorer really slow respond for you, say when you simply double click the hard drive to browse files? I'd also welcome any tips people might have on debugging why Windows Explorer might be slow (shell extensions known to cause problems, etc.).
