• My C# program running as Windows Service is blocking Windows XP from hibernation

  I have Windows Service written in C#. It starts two threads, one is pooling a Web Service, second is waiting on a Monitor object for a new job to arrive. Besides that, the main thread acts as a WCF service host using NetNamedPipeBinding. It lets the client application to register a callback and then sends notifications back. The problem I have is that when this Windows Service is running, I cannot hibernate or Standby my computer which is running on Windows XP, SP3. When I set Windows to hibernate or standby, nothing happens. Then, at the moment when I go to Service Manager and stop the service, the system hibernation starts immediately. The service class extending the ServiceBase has properties like CanHandlePowerEvent, CanPauseAndContinue, etc. set to true... That didn't make any difference. The question is: what can be blocking the Hibernation/Standby from proceeding? What should I take care about to avoid it?

  I am creating a custom Attribute (extending System.Attribute). I know I can put it on another class easily enough by doing the following. [MattsAttribute] public class SomeClassWhichIsACodeBehind { However, I need to be able to test this attribute easily, and putting it in the code-behind would cause a lot of extra effort to get it deployed to an environment which would respond to the behavior of attribute. What I would like to do: declaratively apply this attribute to the .aspx page itself (which is really just another class that inherits from the code-behind). Is this possible? If so, what is the proper syntax for doing this?

• Custom DataSource Extender

  I dream of creating a control which works something like this: <asp:SqlDataSource id="dsFoo" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:conn %>" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure" SelectCommand="cmd_foo"> </asp:SqlDataSource> <Custom:DataViewSource id="dvFoo" runat="server" rowfilter="colid &gt; 10" datasourceid="dsFoo"> </Custom:DataViewSource> I can accomplish the same thing in the code behind by executing cmd_foo, loading the results into a DataTable, then loading them into a DataView with a RowFilter. The goal would be to have multiple DataViews for one DataSource with whatever special filters I wish to apply to the select portion of the DataSource. I could imagine extending this to be more powerful. I tried peaking at this and this but am a bit confused on a few points. Currently, my main issue is being unsure where to grab the output data of the DataSource so I can stick it into a DataTable.

• Prevent mapping all public members of a class in Fluent NHibernate

  I have a class generated from a WSDL that has a bunch of public properties and a public event. I'm extending this class with my own and adding some properties to it. All of my own properties are declared virtual, but the base class properties are not virtual. I'm using Fluent NHibernate's ClassMap to map only the properties from my extended class. How do I prevent (Fluent)NHibernate from trying to persist all the base class's public members? • How to make Date locale-independent?

  I have a db, that stores dates in OleDateTime format, in GMT timezone. I've implemented a class, extending Date in java to represent that in classic date format. But my class is locale-dependent (I'm in GMT+2). Therefore, it converts the date in the db as date - 2 hours. How do I make it convert the date correctly? I want my class to be locale-independent, always using GMT timezone.   Hi, I have this programming question that's been bothering me for some time now. I'm wondering how is it possible to write applications that change the Windows UI? More precisely how could you write an application that modifies the Windows Taskbar or the Windows Desktop? I'm really interested in this topic but cannot find a lot of information. I've read about extending the Windows Shell but I can't seem to find anything related to modifying the Taskbar and the Desktop. I'm looking for something along the lines of Rainmeter. How did those guys create an application that lives inside the Windows Desktop? I'd like to point out that my prefered language for this would be C# but if you want to give me hints in other languages I'm fine with it and I am running on Windows 7. Thank you

  Am I missing something or there really is no support for generic object type hinting in PHP 5.x? I find it really strange that hinting arrays is supported while hinting objects is not, at least not out of the box. I'd like to have something like this: function foo(object $o) Just as we have: function foo(array $o) Example of possible use: methods of an objects collection class. Workaround: using an interface "Object" implemented by all classes or extending all classes from a generic class "Object" and writing something like this: function foo(Object $o) Well, that just ain't cute.   It is my understanding that the default ClassLoader used in Java (and thus, Clojure) holds on to pointers to any anonymous classes created, and thus, onto lambdas and closures. These are never garbage collected, and so represent a "memory leak". There is some investigation going on for Java 7 or 8 to adding an anonymous ClassLoader that will not retain references to these functions. In the mean time how are people dealing with writing long-running applications in languages like Clojure and Scala, that encourage the use of these constructs? Is there any possibility that Clojure could provide its own anonymous ClassLoader, extending the system one, but not holding onto created classes?

My background is the accepted answer to this question. I am looking for the best way to build a untouchable core library, with user-defined empty classes extending the core library if necessary. I know that adding properties to actual entities themselves is easy using .shared.cs and partial classes but adding such properties to the Entity class using similar methods doesn't work. • Asp.Net : IHttpModule + m_context.Server.Transfer = session state error

  I have an IHttpModule that implements IRequiresSessionState. The session state is at "on" on the page directive and I also added it to the web.config. In the method "OnBeginRequest" in the IHttpModule, I make a Server.Transfer but I get the error : Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. When I access the page directly or with a Response.Redirect, there is no error. Any idea? Update : The error occur in a page extending System.Web.UI.Page in the method InitializeCulture() which is an override.

• When is it safe to do a Response.Redirect() without throwing an exception?

  I have an intermediary class extending System.Web.UI.Page for all of my pages that require authentication. The class mostly does custom authentication handling. When a user with insufficient access attempts to visit a page, I try to redirect the user back to the login page while preventing any further page events from being executed (ie. Page_load). The first solution that came to mind was the default implementation of Response.Redirect. Of course the downside to this is the possibility of ThreadAbortExceptions being thrown. I am using this label in TableViewCell along with UILabel.i set UILabel & StyleLabel background color is set to clearColor. UILabel works fine, but StyleLabel shows background in blackColor. If I generated my Model from the Database using VS2010 EF4 Entity Data Model (edmx and it's cs class), And I want to add attributes on some of the entities. what would be the best practice ? how should I cope with updating the model (adding more fields / tables to the database and merging them into the edmx) - will it keep my attributes or generate a new cs file erasing everything ? (Manual changes to this file may cause unexpected behavior in your application.) (Manual changes to this file will be overwritten if the code is regenerated.)

• Android animation doesn't work, probably some kind of screen redraw problem.

  I have created a custom component in my program by extending a ViewGroup. This component listens to touch events and are supposed to start animations when the user has move their finger past some certain points. I'm able to start animations while the user is touching the screen. But I'm not able to start animations if the user doesn't move their finger. It's probably that the phone thinks it doesn't have to update the screen if the user isn't moving their finger. I added some logs and according to them the animation starts and ends but it doesn't draw on the screen. I have the same problems when starting an animation with a timer. I use AlphaAnimations and TranslateAnimations on ImageViews. I have tried to use invalidate() both on the component and the ImageView but it doesn't help. Anyone who has an idea how to solve this?

• Fallback to another existing MIME type when the required is missing in Rails

  I want to extend the existing supported HTML type of my site by support for iPhone. For this I registered a new MIME type. I created a layout for iphone and also converted some of the html views to iphone version. However, I did not convert all of the html.erb files. I do not see the reason to convert all views, some of them should not change, some partials simply just remain the same. I guess there should be a solution for this case. I tried to search for ways how to fallback to an existing format, but did not find any answer. Does a way to define fallback for MIME types in Rails exist? How does it work? If it doesn't exist and thus I wanted to solve the issue not the right way, what could simply solve the task of extending an existing site by another format? Thanks for your suggestions.

TryPython overloads the built in file operations, so I need to know what parts of import need to hooked into in order for import to use the overloaded file operations. • Determining if two rays intersect

  I have two rays on a 2D plane that extend to infinity but both have a starting point. They are both described by a starting point and a vector in the direction of the ray extending to infinity. I want to find out if the two rays intersect but i don't need to know where they intersect (its part of a collision detection algorithm). Everything i have looked at so far describes finding the intersection point of two lines or line segments. Anyone know a fast algorithm to solve this?

  I've been googling around, and I can't find the answer I'm looking for. Say I have a file, text1.txt, in directory mydir whose contents are: one two and another called text2.txt, also in mydir, whose contents are: two three four I'm trying to get a list of files (for a given directory) which contain all (not any) patterns I search for. In the example I provided, I'm looking for output somewhere along the lines of: ./text1.txt or ./text1.txt:one ./text1.txt:two The only things I've been able to find are concerning matching any patterns in a file, or matching multiple patterns in a single file (which I tried extending to a whole directory, but received grep usage errors). Any help is much appreciated. Edit-Things I've tried grep "pattern1" < ./* | grep "pattern2" ./* "ambiguous redirect" grep 'pattern1'|'pattern2' ./* returns files that match either pattern
