  • How to show useful error messages from a database error callback in Phonegap?

    Using Phonegap you can set a function to be called back if the whole database transaction or the individual SQL statement errors. I'd like to know how to get more information about the error. I have one generic error-handling function, and lots of different SELECTs or INSERTs that may trigger it. How can I tell which one was at fault? It is not always obvious from the error message. My code so far is... function get_rows(tx) { tx.executeSql("SELECT * FROM Blah", [], lovely_success, statement_error); } function add_row(tx) { tx.executeSql("INSERT INTO Blah (1, 2, 3)", [], carry_on, statement_error); } function statement_error(tx, error) { alert(error.code + ' / ' + error.message); } From various examples I see the error callback will be passed a transaction object and an error object. I read that .code can have the following values: UNKNOWN_ERR = 0 DATABASE_ERR = 1 VERSION_ERR = 2 TOO_LARGE_ERR = 3 QUOTA_ERR = 4 SYNTAX_ERR = 5 CONSTRAINT_ERR = 6 TIMEOUT_ERR = 7 Are there any other properties/methods of the error object? What are the properties/methods of the transaction object at this point? I can't seem to find a good online reference for this. Certainly not on the Phonegap website!

  • When does the @ become usefull?

    As you know, the @ characters before a php istruction suppress every eventual warning, error or notice from being raised. Personally, i dont like this tecnique, becose i prefer to handle those errors, and in a real life, the error must no happen or have to be managed. By the way, i find this tecnique to be applied in many scripts (cms plugins, open-source classes). So, could the @ really be usefull (in this case, an example would be appreciated), or is just for lazy developers?

  • SQL SERVER – Fix: Error: 10920 Cannot drop user-defined function. It is being used as a resource governor classifier

    If you have not read my SQL SERVER – Simple Example to Configure Resource Governor – Introduction to Resource Governor yesterday’s detailed primer on Resource Governor, I suggest you go ahead and read it before continuing this article. After reading the article the very first email I received was as follows: “Pinal, I configured resource governor on my development server and it worked fine with tests I ran. After doing some tests, I decided to remove the resource governor and as a first step I disabled it however, I was not able to drop the classification function during the process of the clean up. It was continuously giving me following error. Msg 10920, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot drop user-defined function myudfname. It is being used as a resource governor classifier. Would you please give me solution?” The original email was really this short and there is no other information. I am glad he has done experiments on development server and not on the production server. Production server must not be the playground of the experiments. I think I have covered the answer of this error in an earlier blog post. If the user disables the Resource Governor it is still not possible to drop the function because it can be enabled again and when enabled it can still use the same function. Here is the simple resolution of the how one can drop the classifier function (do this only if you are not going to use the function). The reason the classifier function can’t be dropped because it is associated with resource governor. Create a new classified function for your resource governor or just assign NULL as described in the following T-SQL Script and you will be able to drop the function without error. ALTER RESOURCE GOVERNOR WITH (CLASSIFIER_FUNCTION = NULL) GO ALTER RESOURCE GOVERNOR DISABLE GO DROP FUNCTION dbo.UDFClassifier GO I am glad that user asked me question instead of doing something radically different, which can leave the server in the unusable state. I am aware of this only method to avoid this error. Is there any better way to achieve the same?   • SQL SERVER – ERROR: FIX using Compatibility Level – Database diagram support objects cannot be installed because this database does not have a valid owner – Part 2

    Earlier I wrote a blog post about how to resolve the error with database diagram. Today I faced the same error when I was dealing with a database which is upgraded from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 R2. When I was searching for the solution online I ended up on my own earlier solution SQL SERVER – ERROR: FIX – Database diagram support objects cannot be installed because this database does not have a valid owner. I really found it interesting that I ended up on my own solution. However, the solution to the problem this time was a bit different. Let us see how we can resolve the same. Error: Database diagram support objects cannot be installed because this database does not have a valid owner. To continue, first use the Files page of the Database Properties dialog box or the ALTER AUTHORIZATION statement to set the database owner to a valid login, then add the database diagram support objects. Workaround / Fix / Solution : Follow the steps listed below and it should for sure solve your problem. (NOTE: Please try this for the databases upgraded from previous version. For everybody else you should just follow the steps mentioned here.) Select your database >> Right Click >> Select Properties Go to the Options In the Dropdown at right labeled “Compatibility Level” choose “SQL Server 2005(90)” Select FILE in left side of page In the OWNER box, select button which has three dots (…) in it Now select user ‘sa’ or NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM and click OK. This will solve your problem. However, there is one very important note you must consider. When you change any database owner, there are always security related implications. I suggest you check your security policies before changing authorization. I did this to quickly solve my problem on my development server. If you are on production server, you may open yourself to potential security compromise.     Everybody was beginner once and I always like to get involved in the questions from beginners. There is a big difference between the question from beginner and question from advanced user. I have noticed that if an advanced user gets an error, they usually need just a small hint to resolve the problem. However, when a beginner gets error he sometimes sits on the error for a long time as he/she has no idea about how to solve the problem as well have no idea regarding what is the capability of the product. I recently received a very novice level question. When I received the problem I quickly see how the user was stuck. When I replied him with the solution, he wrote a long email explaining how he was not able to solve the problem. He thanked multiple times in the email. This whole thing inspired me to write this quick blog post. I have modified the user’s question to match the code with AdventureWorks as well simplified so it contains the core content which I wanted to discuss. He comes up with following T-SQL Query: SELECT * FROM [Sales].[SalesOrderHeader] WHERE ShipDate = MAX(ShipDate) GO When he executed above script it gave him following error: Msg 147, Level 15, State 1, Line 3 An aggregate may not appear in the WHERE clause unless it is in a subquery contained in a HAVING clause or a select list, and the column being aggregated is an outer reference. He was not able to resolve this problem, even though the solution was given in the query description itself. Due to lack of experience he came up with another version of above query based on the error message. SELECT * FROM [Sales].[SalesOrderHeader] HAVING ShipDate = MAX(ShipDate) GO When he ran above query it produced another error. Msg 8121, Level 16, State 1, Line 3 Column ‘Sales.SalesOrderHeader.ShipDate’ is invalid in the HAVING clause because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause. What he wanted actually was the SalesOrderHeader all the Sales shipped on the last day. Based on the problem statement what the right solution is as following, which does not generate error. SELECT * FROM [Sales].[SalesOrderHeader] WHERE ShipDate = (SELECT MAX(ShipDate) FROM [Sales].[SalesOrderHeader]) Well, that’s it! Very simple. With SQL Server there are always multiple solution to a single problem. Is there any other solution available to the problem stated? Please share in the comment.     I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 on this server. I had PHP 5.2 installed via the package manager. I removed it to install PHP 5.3.1 by hand. I built the packages like so ./configure --prefix=/opt/php --with-mysql --with-curl=/usr/bin --with-apxs2=/usr/bin/apxs2 make make install This installed PHP 5.3.1 in /opt/php/ $ php -v PHP 5.3.1 (cli) (built: Dec 7 2009 10:51:14) Copyright (c) 1997-2009 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2009 Zend Technologies However, when I try to start Apache I get this. # /etc/init.d/apache2 restart * Restarting web server apache2 apache2: Syntax error on line 185 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 1 of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.load: Cannot load /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so into server: /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so: undefined symbol: OnUpdateLong [fail] Any ideas what's causing this error? All the references I can see have to do with building php5 packages for php4 or the like. PHP4 has never been installed on this machine.

    I am using Fedora 12, with kernel stv-fedora 2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.i686 I have install VirtualBox OSE v3.1.4-1.fc12. When I start VirtualBox I get the following error: Failed to start the virtual machine WinXP32. Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-eth0' (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND). One of the kernel modules was not successfully loaded. Make sure that no kernel modules from an older version of VirtualBox exist. Then try to recompile and reload the kernel modules by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND). However, if I run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup I get this error: -bash: /etc/init.d/vboxdrv: No such file or directory How do I get rid of the error and run VirtualBox?

    I have a problem with my Zebra zm 400. I print a label from loftware, and in random times comes the label not out from the printer. When this issue comes, then I can't ping my printer or I can't achive the webpage of the printer.     So today I was trying to copy a simple .PDF file from a local folder on my machine to a network folder and every time I tried to move the file I would get an error dialog box which would state that I was passing a wrong parameter and give me the error code of 8x90070057. Does anyone know of a way to work around this error so that I can get this file copied? I have tried renaming the file with an underscore in front. I have tried copying from my local folder to my desktop and then to the remote folder. I have tried hunting down anything that might be using the file. An example of the file name is: Flowers & Trees.pdf

    I'm playing around with error handling and got a little problem. I connect with a database using the DBI module. I do my own error handling by using a subroutine that I call upon an error. I can catch my own dies and handle them just fine but when my database connection fails, the DBI module apparently prints out it's own die : DBI connect(...) failed: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach) at ... How would I go about catching this ? I tried using $SIG{DIE} like so : local $SIG{__DIE__} = sub { my $e = shift; print "Error: " .$e; }; This is on the bottom of my main file, in this file I also call the connect subroutine that is available in a module of my own. I also tried putting this piece of code on the bottom of my module but it still prints the error without the "Error:" in front of it.

But when I open https://...../foo/nonexisting.html an empty page is displayed. If I remove the <error-page>...</error-page> code from web.xml and open https://...../foo/nonexisting.html then tomcats own 404 is displayed. Any hints?

    I am getting the following error while compiling my Latex File : ! LaTeX Error: Cannot determine size of graphic in tree.jpg (no BoundingBox). Why do I get this error ? What has this to do with an .eps file ? Infact, I could compile it fine with MacTex on my machine. But when I submit it online to a scientific journal for publication, it compiles it on the server and sends me the resultant PDF which as all these error that prevent it from compiling. I am using the following syntax for including the images : \begin{figure}[!h] \begin{center} \scalebox{0.45}{ \includegraphics{tree.jpg}} \end{center} \caption{\small A sample} \label{tree} \end{figure} What should I do ? Could it be that their server is using an old compiler ? UPDATE : It finally worked. I converted the first image to PDF and the compilation happened perfectly. I guess it used the bounding box value from that PDF and applied it to all images.

    I'm having a great deal of difficulty with an external hard drive. I'm currently running a dual boot system (XP Service Pack 3 and Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwahl) on a Dell Inspiron B120. I'm trying to set up a new 80 GB Hitachi external HD. Using GParted, I formatted the drive and set up the partitions. The partitioning scheme is as follows 10GB NTFS Primary, 2GB Linux-Swap Primary, 50GB FAT32 Primary, 12GB Unallocated. After applying those changes, I went into Disk Utility and the HD appears along with the correct partitions. When I try to mount the volumes for partitions 1 and 3, I get a pop-up stating: Error Mounting Volume An error occurred while performing an operation on "Home" (Partition 3 of HTS548080m9AT00): The daemon is being inhibited. When I try to to check the filesystem I get a pop-up stating: Error Checking filesystem on volume An error occurred while performing an operation on "Home" (Partition 3 of HTS548080m9AT00): The daemon is being inhibited. Throughout the time that I'm attempting to troubleshoot the problem, the external drive light is on and blinking. With my frustration hitting a boiling point, I try to shut down the drive and remove it so that I can plug in a different external HD that works PERFECTLY. However, when I try to shut down and safely remove the drive, I get a pop-up stating: Error Detaching Drive An error occurred while performing an operation on "80GB Hard Disk" (HTS548080m9AT00): The daemon is being inhibited. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm a newbie and not that skilled with terminal commands, so please dumb it down for me if you request specific command output.

The client boots to DRBL and then into Clonezilla just fine but after calculating the bitmap, it checks the disk space and gives me the error: Checking the disk space...
