• Screen problems on 11.10 using VGA compatible controller 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller

  I am having problems with my display. The problem manifests as lots of screen artefacts, which seem to be worse in Unity than in Gnome 3, are worse after i have used suspend and are intolerable if i set myself up on a dual monitor. Specific issues include: icons disappearing, lines occurring all over the screen, the backgrounds of certain windows going another colour and window borders disappearing or being filled with text from other parts of the screen. The most annoying problem is lines of text disappearing from a host of word processing programmes (libreoffice, gedit, bluefish etc), as i type. In most circumstances the screen problem can be temporarily fixed (so that i can see the screen clearly) by either scrolling the text off the screen and then scrolling it back onto the screen, or highlighting the offending area of the desktop, by clicking and dragging. Errors on parts of the screen that don't seem to redraw (window borders (off the universal menu) or the screen area outside of a LO document, in print layout view, for example) can't seem to be fixed in a session. • WiFi can't reconnect after suspend/hibernate on Ubuntu 12.04.1

  I've had this problem since Ubuntu 11.10 (my first install) but I was able to get around this issue with this answer. When I updated to Ubuntu 12.04 I encrypted the home folder, so I wasn't able to suspend or hibernate anymore (disappointing :l). Because of this and another issue I had1, I chose to reinstall. Sometime after I reinstalled, I was reminded about reconnection issue because it wasn't working after I suspended. I tried to use the same fix as before but I couldn't get it to work. I've also tried a couple other different fixes I found around the web but they didn't work. Since I'm new to linux, I'm gonna have a tough time figuring this out by myself. So does anyone know how, or what I need to figure out how, to fix this? • alsa - sound issues on ubuntu 12.04

• Can't access computer

  I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 on an Intel NUC and it won't boot! The last successful boot was earlier today but now each time I try it gets stuck on the Grub menu where it prompts for memory check etc. This is not a dual boot system, so this screen shouldn't ever appear, and it never has before. It's GRUB version 2.02~beta2-9, which is a little disconcerting, as I'm on the stable sources. Unfortunately the keyboard (I've tried 2 keyboards just in case) is not responding at this point in the boot process, so I can't select the "Ubuntu" menu option in Grub. The keyboard works during the bios stage, so I can configure it to boot from USB, and I tried a flash drive with 14.04 on it. The flash drive works in my laptop but is completely ignored by the NUC (I tried all 3 USB ports!). It seems that I have no way of getting into the machine at all! The Intel support site was my first option, but the site is down. I expect it's a long shot, but if anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful.

• Ubuntu 13.04 can only work in recovery mode

  I have just updated my 12.10 to 13.04. Everything is updated. But I can only boot to a black screen. I mean after the GRUB interface and purple screen. And I can hear the voice of the password interface. But it is only the black screen. It all works OK in 12.10. But it can work in the recovery mode. I mean go into the recovery mode and choose resume. And then everything is OK. But when loading kernel, the screen is dirty. I don't know why and I have Googled a lot. But no resolutions works. My graphics card is Intel GMA HD 4000, tested as VESA: Intel® Sandybridge/Ivybridge Graphics. I have been trapped in this for a whole day. I do need help. Hope someone can help me. By the way, the kernel is 3.8.0-19 if it helps.

• How to install 3d support?

  I'm trying Natty and after an upgrade I received this message: "Sorry, you don't have 3d support, install it for your graphic hardware to get Unity or please reboot and select 'Classic session' at startup." So I want to install 3D support but I don't know how to. My machine is a Sony Vaio VGN-SR29XN Laptop with Intel Graphics, but I would like to know the general instructions. • No sound through hdmi to TV

  I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop Model P745-S4102 with Intel integrated graphics and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installed recently. When I connect my HDMI TV to it I only get video through it and no audio. In the System Settings - Sound, there is no option to select HDMI as the output. I read other threads in this site and it seems like at least guys had HDMI option but no sound. I don't even get that. Please help!!

Rarely I do get to the live OS, but soon the display goes blank. • Will Ubuntu 11.04 work on my old pc?

  It has an old SiS based graphics chip with 64mb memory, there were never 3D drivers for them. Ubuntu 10.10 doesn't even boot on it and my laptop, a Lenovo N200 with intel 9something graphics 128mb so I'm really worried. Broadband prices don;t come cheap in South Africa so the download has to be worth it. I can wait for the shipment but I've since orderd 10.10 and it hasn't come, so I don't know if I'm barred from using that service since I've been sent a disc every release.

  I have a laptop with with intel celeron inside 64 bit, the 64 bit amd ubuntu 11.10 is working on the laptop, just it wont detect the laptop screen but the same live usb worked on amd 64 pc, When i connected the desktop computer monitor to the laptop it worked perfectly with 1920x1080 screen, battery, WIFI. Im not sure if its cause i made the usb it with LiLo live usb creator on the desktop pc, should i remake the usb on the laptop?

  I'm running with Ubuntu 12.04 64bit on Dell Latitude E6420. The inbuilt microphone is not working, and is not listed on the sound settings dialog. • Ubuntu 12.10 hangs on checking battery state

  I have a Thinkpad X230. After a boot it hangs with checking battery state [OK]. A second boot is most times successful. What I have seen in other posts doesn't fit to my problem, because My graphics card is Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics controller (not nvidia) It happens not always I have a fresh installed 12.10 with the latest updates (no upgrade) Does anyone experience the same issues or has a solution?

• WIfi Problems Ubuntu 13.10

  i've been searching the forums for two days now but none of the answers seems to work for me. I have an acer extensa 5630 which has an Intel WIfi 5100. But even when i am right next to my router i cannot detect the wireless network. The weird thing is, that when i create a hotspot from my mobile phone it automatically detects it and connects to it.I think i do have the correct drivers installed. Thanks

• Steam Repository Help?

  Steam runs fine in Raring, not ready for Saucy for another few months, in the meantime this repo is 404ing me every time I do an "apt-get update" http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-xswat/x-updates/ubuntu raring This ppa is supposed to allow me to get the latest updates for my Intel Graphics card. I tried searching the net to no avail but does someone know the correct ppa for this? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

• No sound on Dell Inspiron 6400n

  After a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 on my Dell Inspiron 6400n Laptop there is no sound on any application I use apart from the log in screen ready noise. If I click on the speaker icon on the top panel then sound settings it tells me that the default playback device is S/PDIF. In alsamixer the slider is set to zero. I am sure it should be HDA intel or similar. How can I get the sound working please...?

• Problem connecting to certain wifi networks

  I'm using lenovo u300s (it has Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 card), and I can connect to wireless network at home with no problem, but I can not connect to any networks at my university. I'm not sure if it's the case but most of university networks are open and you need to sign up your username as you enter browser. There is also an eudoroam network, but I can not connect to it either. Any suggestions? Yes I have the latest ubuntu version.

• RAID1 Hard drives with Intel Controller

  I have an older server with 2 35GB hard drives arranged as a RAID-1 drive. I have 3 open bays, I'd like to add 2 more hard drives to the open bays and have all 4 drives configured as a RAID-1 drive that Windows sees as 1 larger drive. Is this possible? If not, the new drives are 2x as big as the old drives, is it possible to replace 1 of the old drives and rebuild then replace the second drive and rebuild and somehow expand the array to use all of the available space? The server is using an Intel hardware raid controller, the software interface is Intel Storage Console v2.12.

• Solid State Drive Occasionally Freezes For A Minute While OS Is "Beach Balling"

  Almost a month ago I bought Intel 330 128GB solid state drive, migrated my data with Intel branded limited-feature Acronis from old HDD to new SSD, optimized with Intel Toolbox and started using it. Occassionally I get close to 1 minute freezes while seeing operating system "beach balls" and animations still work, I can interact and click on something but nothing responds, nothing loads. Recently a couple of such freezes occurred in shorter amount of time in a row. I have noticed that if I stop interacting with laptop, the freeze lasts less time than if I was interacting with laptop. But the bigger problem is when freeze just does not end and computer keeps being stuck unlil it is more than half hour and I run out of patience to keep waiting and feeling I need to restart the system because I am not getting anywhere. Such freeze happened while laptop was cold booting into Windows 7. This is when freeze hang occurred and I had to restart, only later to be greeted with Windows recovery screen stating something about faiure of boot sector and asking to insert Windows repair CD. But after I restarted, Windows booted successfully and all was well. I have filmed video of freeze hang occurring in cold boot which you can see here (on video page look below for description): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b7MQlcDTUs As I have mentioned in the beginning, the SSD is less than a month old but here is S.M.A.R.T statistics just in case (TRIM is enabled btw according to CrystalDiskInfo): I want to emphasize that this SSD is the only drive I have, yet it is working in RAID mode (it was enabled initially in BIOS by previous laptop's owner) on Intel Rapid Storage drivers. I am contemplating about switching to AHCI mode but want to be sure this won't cause data loss. Additionally, the stock firmware is the only firmware available currently, yet Intel does not respond to my posts in their community board. If anyone here has this SSD model or generally has experience with SSD drives, I would love to know your thoughts.

My computer's specs: ASUS p8z77-v motherboard Intel Core-i7 3770k Intel HD Graphics 4000 integrated VGA Windows 8 Pro x64 I have tried to reinstall VGA drivers, tried to install an older driver from intel.com or asus.com, but no success with resolving the issue. Currently I am using driver version 2867. How can I fix this?

  I'm trying to set up a triple monitor desktop at my office using Fedora 17, but it seems impossible, let me explain the setting: Laptop ASUS K53SD with 2 graphic cards, Intel and nVidia (Screen controled by Intel card) 24" Full HD monitor connected to the HDMI output (controlled by Intel card) 23" Full HD monitor connected to an USB-HDMI adapter (via framebuffer in /dev/fb2, apparently) VGA output (not used) controlled by nVidia card First of all, the USB-HDMI adapter works perfectly, it gives me a green screen (which means the communication is OK) and I can make it work if I set up a single monitor setting via framebuffer in Xorg.   I have cpu with Pentium 4 3GHz processor. My motherboard is Intel 82865. I have installed the graphic driver for intel 82865 by using the graphic driver of Windows XP and changing the program's compatibility to Windows XP SP2. I got many thing ok with that. For example many resolutions and I can also play GTA. But what I want to know is why I cant view Aero and transparency effect in windows 7. It says contact the manufacturer for compbatible WDDM graphic driver.
