• How to retain focus on an editable html after deleting an element.

  Hello, I have a website with design mode on (aka. content editable = true) with some basic text on it. To that site I hooked up a shortcut so that at any point in the text I can insert an input box that serves me as an autocomplete. For that input however I want it to disappear right after I hit ENTER so that I can continue typing. It is an easy task to just make the input box disappear but I always loose focus from my document. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to make this work?

• MinGW screw up with COLORREF and RGB

  I am trying to build a 3rd party open source project using MinGW. One of the dependencies is wxWidgets. When I try to make the project from MSYS I get a compiler error from /MinGW/msys/1.0/local/include/wx-2.8/wx/msw/private.h In function 'COLORREF wxColourToRGB(const wxColour&)': error: cannot convert 'RGB' to 'COLORREF {aka long unsigned in}' in return This is somewhat odd given that, according to Microsoft the RGB macro returns a COLORREF. In fact, looking in H:\MinGW\include I find wingdi.h with the following code #define RGB(r,g,b) ((COLORREF)((BYTE)(r)|((BYTE)(g) << 8)|((BYTE)(b) << 16))) What sort of thing would cause this error? Is there some way I can check to see if COLORREF and RGB are being included from wingdi.h and not somewhere else? Is that even worth checking? Specifications GCC version 4.7.2 wxWidgets version 2.8.12 (I'm new to C++ and MinGW specifically but generally computer and programming literate)

• What's the easiest way for a Java Swing client to consumer a webservice?

  I have a Java Swing application client that I want to use to consume certain webservices, but I want to make it as painless as possible to code (because really all I want is the info). I do understand that whatever solution is used will need to stub the POJO's too. If you'd like to give a demo, that would be great, or if you can point to a tutorial that would also be really appreciated. I did look at Axis, including the more recent Axis2, but it's a bit more complex than I was hoping (aka. I have to learn something). At least just for some quick prototype testing and not real development, more for the sake of just saying I can, is there something or a tutorial out there?

• cross domain DOM access and manipulation in Java ?

  In my Java app, how can I incorporate the browser (which loads and renders URLs) in Swing and access it's DOM and manipulate HTML ? How can you embed such browser in a Rich Internet Application and access it's DOM ? More specifically, Vaadin ? Is there a HTTP proxy class that can load an external URL, and render it to the user ? This was what I was doing on LAMP stack....but I want to switch to Vaadin or some Java web framework where I can just use Java to do everything from server-side to client-side logic design, so I can focus more on application logic. • handling Javascript actions in PDF with Java

  I'm trying to make PDF forms (aka AcroForms) editable in Java. So far i got the GUI editing and printing working using Bruno Lowagie's iText and Sun's pdf-renderer. But now i'm close to scrapping it all, because after switching from try & error to reading the PDF specification, i realized that it's all worthless unless i can make the multitude of possible JavaScript actions work as well. I don't think iText can do that. So in short: are there any Java libraries that do proper form handling including actions? Or maybe even a Java GUI component to edit form data?

• GUID.TryParse() ?

  Obviously there is no public GUID.TryParse() in .NET CLR 2.0. So, I was looking into regular expressions [aka googling around to find one] and each time I found one there was a heated argument in the comments section about RegEx A doesn't work, use RegEx B. Then someone would write Regex C yadda yadda So anyway, What I decided to do was this, but I feel bad about it. public static bool IsGuid (string possibleGuid) { try { Guid gid = new Guid(possibleGuid); return true; } catch (Exception ex) { return false; } } Obviously I don't really like this since it's been drilled into me since day one to avoid throwing exceptions if you can defensibly code around it. Does anyonek now why there is no public Guid.TryParse() in the .NET Framework? Does anyone have a real Regular Expression that will work for all GUIDs?

  Given data like this C1<-c(3,-999.000,4,4,5) C2<-c(3,7,3,4,5) C3<-c(5,4,3,6,-999.000) DF<-data.frame(ID=c("A","B","C","D","E"),C1=C1,C2=C2,C3=C3) How do I go about removing the -999.000 data in all of the columns I know this works per column DF2<-DF[!(DF$C1==-999.000 | DF$C2==-999.000 | DF$C3==-999.000),] But I'd like to avoid referencing each column. I am thinking there is an easy way to reference all of the columns in a particular data frame aka: DF3<-DF[!(DF[,]==-999.000),] or DF3<-DF[!(DF[,(2:4)]==-999.000),] but obviously these do not work And out of curiosity, bonus points if you can me why I need that last comma before the ending square bracket as in: ==-999.000),]

• Getting counts of 0 from a query with a double group by

  I'm trying to write a query that gets the counts for a table (call it item) categorized by two different things, call them type and code. What I'm hoping for as output is the following: Type Code Count 1 A 3 1 B 0 1 C 10 2 A 0 2 B 13 2 C 2 And so forth. Both type and code are found in lookup tables, and each item can have just one type but more than one code, so there's also a pivot (aka junction or join) table for the codes. I have a query that can get this result: Type Code Count 1 A 3 1 C 10 2 B 13 2 C 2 and it looks like (with join conditions omitted): SELECT typelookup.name, codelookup.name, COUNT(item.id) FROM typelookup LEFT OUTER JOIN item JOIN itemcodepivot RIGHT OUTER JOIN codelookup GROUP BY typelookup.name, codelookup.name Is there any way to alter this query to get the results I'm looking for? This is in MySQL, if that matters. I'm not actually sure this is possible all in one query, but if it is I'd really like to know how. Thanks for any ideas.

Is there a tool which can create a C++ wrapper over a java class, so that the caller. of this c++ wrapper doesn't have to worry about java, for example Input Java is class hw { public void hi() { System.out.println("Hello World"); } } Tools outputs hw.hh ( and some. c++ files ), which can be used as: hw *h = new hw(/*JEnv */ env); h-hi(); Is there a tool available which can do this ?

• An exception to the "only one implementation" rule ?

  While I was reading the accepted answer of this question, I had the following question: Typically, methods are defined in header files (.hpp or whatever), and implementation in source files (.cpp or whatever). One of the main reasons it is bad practice to ever include a "source file" (#include <source_file.cpp>) is that its methods implementation would then be duplicated, resulting in linking errors. When one writes: #ifndef BRITNEYSPEARS_HPP #define BRITNEYSPEARS_HPP class BritneySpears { public: BritneySpears() {}; // Here the constructor has implementation. }; #endif /* BRITNEYSPEARS_HPP */ He is giving the implementation of the constructor (here an "empty" implementation, but still). But why then including this header file multiple times (aka. on different source files) will not generate a "duplicate definition" error at link time ?

• Visaul Studio 2010, TlbImp generates .net 4.0 interops in 2.0 projects

  In a C# project we add a reference to a COM object via the Add References setup pointing to a COM object which results in the IDE auto-generating the interop assembly. So this is fine and good, but we are building based on .net 3.5 SP1 aka CLR 2.0, and the generated interops are using the 4.0 CLR making them incompatiable. Is there a way to prevent this? I assume the other option is in our build script to try using tlbimp.exe with the /references parameter? to point to mscorlib v2.0? Anyhow, I'm hoping there's a flag somewhere to allow this.

  I'm building a Windows 8 Metro app (aka "Modern UI Style" or "Windows Store app") in HTML5/JavaScript consuming JSON Web Services and I'm bumping into the following issue: in which format should my JSON Web Services serialize dates for the Windows 8 Metro JSON.parse method to deserialize those in a date type? I tried: sending dates using the ISO-8601 format, (JSON.parse returns a string), sending dates such as "/Date(1198908717056)/" as explained here (same result). I'm starting to doubt that Windows 8's JSON.parse method supports dates as even when parsing the output of its own JSON.stringify method does not return a date type. Example: var d = new Date(); // => a new date var str = JSON.stringify(d); // str is a string => "\"2012-07-10T14:44:00.000Z\"" var date2 = JSON.parse(str); // date2 is a string => "2012-07-10T14:44:00.000Z"

• Visual Studio 2010 Database Project does not understand Schema Names anymore?

  I just tried to upgrade a Visual Studio 2008 Database project to VS2010 and actually it is quite a mess. Hundreds of warnings, all unsolved references. It seems to boil down to Visual Studio not to understand Schema Names (aka Ownership) anymore. For example, the standard dbo schema: [$(MyDataBase)].dbo.MyTable is fine but: [$(MyDataBase)].myschema.MyTable gives an unsolved reference. It did work in VS2008. Also the abbreviation for dbo, the double dot: [$(MyDataBase)]..MyTable Doesn't work anymore. In the project property windows I restored the references to the correct servers (which were lost after the conversion) but that didn't help. This seems pretty basic but I don't have a clue how to solve this. Any help is appreciated.

  I have a Book model in my Rails application, with various properties (aka columns in the book db table). One of these properties is "ranking". Recently, may app has started to throw NoMethodError: undefined method 'include?' for nil:NilClass for the following code: def some_method(book, another_arg) return book.ranking unless book.ranking.blank? ... end However, it's not consistent. The vast majority of the time, accessing book.ranking works -- the error is thrown maybe 2-4% of the time. If I change the code to book[:ranking] or book['ranking'] instead of book.ranking, it works 100% of the time. Any ideas?

• Limit user in sql plus to a single record in a table.

  I have one employee table...this table has 5 coloumns (empname, empgsm, empsal, empaddr, empdep)...it has 10 records. i've created 10 users equivelent to the empnames coloumn in the table. When a user logs in with his empname aka username & password, he will be able to see only his record from the table. eg.Smith is an employee, a user called smith was created. when this user is in session, and types "Select * from Employee_table" he only gets the record that belongs to him, where empname is smith. how do i do this using privileges? thanks in advance

  I've got some old Intel printer (Etherexpress XL ) print servers and they seem to be running an Intel OS called Cos aka Intel Client Os i86 I've found out that much just looking in the update files from Intel. It was at least partly written in C. How do I make a custom software image Intel Cos's boot loader will understand ? I know a host PC xmodem's the image to the client device, and I was wondering if anyone had already either reverse-engineered this or had original info ? or is my only recousre to reverse engineer the update file format ?

  The spate of questions regarding BOOST_FOREACH prompts me to ask users of the Boost library what (if anything) they are doing to prepare their code for portability to the proposed new C++ standard (aka C++0x). For example, do you write code like this if you use shared_ptr: #ifdef CPPOX #include <memory> #else #include "boost/shared_ptr.hpp" #endif There is also the namespace issue - in the future, shared_ptr will be part of the std, namespace - how do you deal with that? I'm interested in these questions because I've decided to bite the bullet and start learning boost seriously, and I'd like to use best practices in my code. Not exactly a flood of answers - does this mean it's a non-issue? Anyway, thanks to those that replied; I'm accepting jalfs answer because I like being advised to do nothing!

• Create a complex SQL query?

  Hey guys, I have a program that allows me to run queries against a large database. I have two tables that are important right now, Deposits and withdraws. Each contains a history of every user. I need to take each table, add up every deposit and withdraws (per user), then subtract the withdraws from the deposits. I then need to return every user whos result is negative (aka they withdrew more then they deposited). Is this possible in one query? Example: Deposit Table: |ID|UserName|Amount| |1 | Use1 |100.00| |2 | Use1 |50.00 | |3 | Use2 |25.00 | |4 | Use1 | 5.00 | WithDraw Table: |ID|UserName|Amount| |2 | Use2 | 5.00 | |1 | Use1 |100.00| |4 | Use1 | 5.00 | |3 | Use2 |25.00 | So then the result would output: |OverWithdrawers| | Use2 | Is this possible (I sure don't know how to do it)? • Which Java Web Framework allows Cross-Domain Javascripting (http proxy) ?

  So just a quick intro, I am starting to explore Vaadin, and it's absolutely perfect. Previously, I was juggling PHP, Perl, Ruby, and Jquery for designing rich client web application. It didn't work out too well, as I've burnt out from trying to fix cross browser issues (aka get-it-to-work-on-IE-damn-it), handling server-side, client-side, and building a robust communication between the two tier had lot of code not related to application logic....by the time I was burnt out, only tiny bit of application logic was implemented. Vaadin seems like the answer to my problem as it only requires Java and built on top of GWT. However, I am curious how I can incorporate Cross-Domain Javascripting ? Back in LAMP environment, I had a CGI proxy script that loaded external URL, and injected JS into the proxy-loaded page. I used the CGI proxy script, as it rendered Javascript of the external URL well. Is there a class or package for Java or a specific Java web framework similiar to Vaadin that makes this possible ? So I understand that there isn't a freely available version of the server adapter for WAS 6.1/7.0, so by now I have been doing a lot of stuff manually, but I'm wondering (after getting tired of this), what is doing other people using Eclipse + WAS6.1/7.0? Are you also doing stuff manually? Have you find an alternative to make things easier when working with Eclipse and you want to deploy or interact with WAS? (I know some of you will say: create your Ant scripts and run them from Eclipse... that's not what I want, I already have that). Currently I'm using Eclipse 3.5 (aka Galileo). Thanks.

• How can I make a boring project (another WordPress site) interesting?

  WordPress is my example, but the question can be generalized to any technology that is not particularly interesting. To me, WordPress takes away the intellectually gratifying pieces of coding. I would rather write a new version of WordPress than write a WordPress theme and glue together some plugins. I am using WP because my company dictates the platform for some of our clients (I do not disagree with the choice from a business perspective, WP is quick and cheap to implement). My question is, how can I make my next WordPress project interesting? I want to advance my understanding of the fundamentals of programming (aka data structures, algorithms, and caching) but do not see how I can achieve this when coding another WP site. I have a fairly tight understanding of front-end technologies and believe I have made WP do things it was never intended to do. Examples are here and here. Solving front-end related problems is not as interesting as coding a full stack application. Any advice will help.

  A portion of my program requires a "flag" retrieval, that is I am fetching a value that is either True or False, and based on this return value two things could follow. 1) The flag is true, aka "go ahead", and I retrieve data from a database. 2) The flag is false, and I want to prevent the data from being retrieved. Now, this check has to be performed before any function that would call upon the database in question. I decided to implement this check in the form of an event handler attached to GUI objects that would trigger this data inquiry. This check event handler is called first upon necessary events, and my question is: How do I stop subsequent event handlers from firing if the FIRST event handler (my flag checker) comes up FALSE?   I want to create a field in my database which will be easy to query. I think if I give a bit of background this will make more sense. My table has listings shown on my website. I run a program which looks at the listings a decides whether to hide them from being shown on the site. I also hide listings manually for various reasons. I want to store these reasons in a field, so more than one reason could be made for hiding. So I need some form of logic to determine which reasons have been used. Can anyone offer me any guidance on what will be future-proof aka new reasons and what will be quick and easy to query upon ?

• Python: What's a correct and good way to implement __hash__()?

  What's a correct and good way to implement hash()? I am talking about the function that returns a hashcode that is then used to insert objects into hashtables aka dictionaries. As hash() returns an integer and is used for "binning" objects into hashtables I assume that the values of the returned integer should be uniformly distributed for common data (to minimize collisions). What's a good practice to get such values? Are collisions a problem? In my case I have a small class which acts as a container class holding some ints, some floats and a string.

• Maintain Constant Title Across Website

  If I am creating a website in ASP.NET, is it possible to programmatically set the title of the page be some predefined value with some extra information tacked on? For example: Home Page Title = Site Name Links Title = Site Name: Links Stuff Title = Site Name: Stuff Basically, whatever I defined as the main title on the page I'm currently on, I want to tack ": Name" onto the end of the title so it stays consistent across the website. I was thinking of defining it as a ContentPlaceHolder and wrapping some logic around it, but it doesn't appear to work how I thought it would (AKA, not at all).
