  • Short unique id in php

    - by Antti
I want to create a unique id but uniqid() is giving something like '492607b0ee414'. What i would like is something similar to what tinyurl gives: '64k8ra'. The shorter, the better. The only requirements are that it should not have an obvious order and that it should look prettier than a seemingly random sequence of numbers. Letters are preferred

  • Mix RGB colors (L*a*b*)

    - by Samuel
Hello! Basically I want two mix two colours color1 and color2. Since simple calculation's bring up stuff like blue+yellow = grey ((color1.r + color2.r)/2 etc) i did some research and found that apparently mixing colors in order for the mixed color to look like we expect it too (e.g. blue+yellow = green) isn't that straight forward.

    - by rgksugan
I have written a program to process packets. The program runs well if its run alone but when i integrate it to my main project the jvm crashes and shows the below result. What is the problem? # # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine: # # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at

  • Using thrift with PHP and Java

    - by Christopher McCann
I am getting myself a bit confused about how to go about this. My plan is to use PHP to perform the final page construction and this PHP web app will contact multiple services, which i will also to develop, for the data. Lets say one of those services was done in Java. I would define a Java interface which

  • Where is my classpath being set?

    - by Nimnio
Whenever I open a Bash shell, my classpath is "someProgram". I know that adding an export entry to ".bashrc" changes my classpath, but I want to know where "someProgram" is being added to the classpath (it's not in ".bashrc"). Is there a way to track down where this is being set, or some typical spots I

  • How to detect filesystem has changed in java

    - by Alfred
Hi all, I would like to know how to efficiently implement filesystem changes in java? Say I got a file in a folder and modify that file. I would like to be notified by java about this change as soon as possible(no frequently polling if possible.). Because I think I could call java.io.file.lastModified

  • Should I typecast in PHP when defining my vars?

    - by Borislav
I am sorry if this is more of a theory question then a real life problem but it is a real life situation for me. We were commenting on the way PHP works with vars and how memory heavy it is on the server due to its "mixed vars" and something occured to me - why not typecast right from the start? So I

  • Why would you want a case sensitive database?

    - by Khorkrak
What are some reasons for choosing a case sensitive collation over a case insensitive one? I can see perhaps a modest performance gain for the DB engine in doing string comparisons. Is that it? If your data is set to all lower or uppercase then case sensitive could be reasonable but it's a disaster

  • Best Online Programming Degree? (Masters Level)

    - by Jason
I am less then a year from graduating with my bachelors in web development, however I would like to continue on with a masters in programming. As far as I can tell, what I want is a masters in software engineering. Sadly my current college only offers more management oriented masters level degrees,

  • Perl - What is Larry?

    - by user350571
I was reading some Perl book and I find meant-to-be funny mentions to something named Larry. Some times it is mixed in a religious context (like "Larry multiplied the code and distributed among coders"). Since I'm not stupid, I tried to think a bit and I believe I finally got it... It's about Larry

  • project organization between x86 and x64

    - by Steve
I have a mixed language solution in VS2008. I would like to structure the bin such that I have bin\x86\Release and bin\x64\Release among the other options. I can do something like this if I have all C# or all C++, but as the platform names don't overlap (x86 vs. Win32) between C++ and C#, I

  • How do I replace colours in a movieclip?

    - by Oli
I am trying to take a movieclip of a character and change the colour of their clothes. The character is comprised of vectors. So far I have semi-sucessfully used this method: stop the movieclip take the bitmap data from the current frame use threshold to replace the colour store the

  • Handling over-long UTF-8 sequences

    - by Grant McLean
I've just been reworking my Encoding::FixLatin Perl module to handle over-long utf8 byte sequences and convert them to the shortest normal form. My question is quite simply "is this a bad idea"? A number of sources (including this RFC) suggest that any over-long utf8 should be

  • VS2010 always relinks the project

    - by Rob Walker
I am migrating a complex mixed C++/.NET solution from VS2008 to VS2010. The upgraded solution works in VS2010, but the build system is always refereshing one C++/CLI assembly. It doesn't recompile anything, but the linker touches the file. The causes a ripple effect
