  • Can't Remote into Windows Server

    Hello, I have a Dell server wired into the router. I was able to connect to it with my laptop (laptop is wireless) before my router died. My verizon router went kaput, and I got everything else back up and running on the wireless network other than the remoting in feature, even though I can access the server through windows explorer just fine. Any ideas why? What do I need to check? UPDATE: Interesting scenario, Network Discovery is off; I turn it on and save, but for some reason, even after that, network discovery is turning itself off... no idea why that is happening? Thanks.

    We have a requirement from management to give limited access of our Application to Distributors \ Dealers to look at their account statements in our books of account, enter their purchase requirements (sales order for us). We have given a few of them the RDC who connect to our terminal server and access the reports. This involves licensing of TS Client per each distributor. Is it more better, secure and less costly if a web based application is made to only enter the orders and retrive reports like pending orders, ledgers, receivables etc. Also which is more secure as far as database access is concerened...browser based access or RDC access. The Audit will need to discover Hardware and software details of all machines attached to the network (including Printers) I do not want to have to install this application on each workstation. The audit app. needs to discover all the ip addresses of all the networked workstations. I have been prototyping this app for the last couple of months and have decided to try a new tack Is this possible? a). You have a windows network, min Windows XP sp3 and upwards b). I need to remotely reboot each WINDOWS machine in turn on the entire network and get it to startup using UNIX, say knoppix for example! d). however the knoppix live cd is only available from one of the networked machines Questions...   • Remote viewing on a Linux server?

    I have a Slackware Linux server that doesn't have a monitor. It doesn't run any GUIs. Is there a way to remotely access the screen? I always use SSH, but there are times where the SSH services fails and I can't do anything (nor even tell what the problem is). I use Teamviewer from my Windows computer to other PCs, but is there anything I can use to remotely view this from a Windows machine? I also want to see what it's doing at boot, before the SSH service starts.

  • APC UPS-5000 Power off remote servers

    Hi there, I have a UPS connected via the serial port to a server using PowerChute Business Edition. If a power outage occurs I would like this server to start shutting down all other servers within the network. Is there dedicated software to do this? I was thinking of creating a command file which runs a .bat file to run shut down commands to each server (using PSExec). I can set PowerChute to run this command file when a power failure occurs. Is there not anything APC provide which has this functionality and is more efficient than writing a .bat file to do this? Thanks,

    I'm trying to establish a connection between this app and my Win 8.1 Pro PC, but every guide I've found so far skip steps such as what to put under PC name or under Gateway. Also, should the User name be my email or something else? I've also no idea how to find or add a user in the step 6 of this guide because the only location listed is my PC and I don't even know what am I supposed to search for. I'm not even sure whether I have to add a user or this is an step I can skip. A comprehensive guide for people without experience in networking would be highly appreciated. Both my android tablet and PC are connected to the internet through a home router, in case this matters.

    Does anyone know a kind of software that allows controlling of other computer, but the server can configure permission control? For example, the server can define five users, one of them can control, but the other four of them can only view. Also, file transfer support is required. I've tried TightVNC, it works fine with anything else, but it just does not support user permission control. RAdmin can serve this job, but I wish to find some software which is free. Thank you!

    I've been trying to figure out why I keep getting this error when I try to connect to the MySQL server with the following commands. $~ mysql -u username -h SQLserver -p Enter password: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'username'@'myIP' (using password: YES) I've done the following: Port is open in the firewall other wise I wouldn't get the error it'd just timeout. MySQL server not running with skip-networking or bind-address username has host as '%' and I can connect locally so the password is correct.     I installed Gitorious on my (shared) hosting. I was getting errors, but I seemed to have fixed most of them. It is working.   • how do I have a windows group automatically map a drive on connection?

    I have 3 different windows user groups. Each group needs to have a certain drive mapped, unique to that group. Is there a way to say x group maps to y drive every time they connect? If I put something in their start up, that's a lot of manual work. I am needing something that I have set per user group, if possible. If this is not feasible, is there another option?   • How can I make VNC faster?

    I need to remotely access and use my work computer a few times a week. I want to use VNC because of the price. I've used VNC before, mostly on my own network, where it's fast. However, VNC over the internet is incredibly slow. Even at 256 colors and lower, with Aero turned off, it is unbearably slow. I recently used Ammyy Admin to connect to do something requiring a quick reaction time. Ammyy was really fast, with almost no lag, and it was running in full color with Aero on! How can I make VNC faster, like Ammyy is? I'd use Ammyy, but I would probably run into the 15hr/month limit pretty quickly. Any suggestions? [EDIT] I'm currently using UltraVNC.

I already have TeamViewer installed on both PCs, so it will be okay as soon as the power is turned on. I have read many articles about this, I found both my PC and office computers support Wake-on-LAN. However, I don't know much about other config. And I need to turn on my computers through the Internet, not on LAN. My office Internet connection has static IP, however, my home Internet connection has dynamic IP, it changes as soon as I reset the modem, but it is not a big problem, I rarely turn the Internet modem off. And I don't have privilege to config office Internet connection, but I have Administration privilege on both PCs. Please give me details steps to turn on my office PC from home, and turn on my home PC from office.

However, if you forget to assign the work item during your check-in, things really get cumbersome as Visual Studio does not provide an easy way of assigning. For example, you usually have to open the work item and then link the changeset which involves approx. 7-8 mouse clicks. Now, you will really feel the difficulty if you have to assign work item to multiple changesets, you have to repeat the same steps again. Hence, I decided to develop a small Visual Studio extension to perform this action of linking work item to changeset bit easier. How to use the extension? First, download and install the extension from VS Gallery (Supports VS 2013 Professional and above). Once you install, you will see a new "Link To Work Item" menu item when you right click on a changeset in history window. Clicking Link To Work Item menu, will open a new dialog with which you can search for a work item. As you can see in below screenshot, this dialog displays the search result and also the type of the work item. You can also open work item from this dialog by right clicking on the work item and clicking 'Open'. Finally, clicking Save button, will actually link the work item to changeset. One feature which I think helpful, is you can select multiple changesets from history window and assign the work item to all those changesets.  To summarize the features Directly assign work items to changesets from history window Assign work item to multiple changesets Know the type of the work item before assigning. Open the work item from search results It also supports all default Visual Studio themes. Below is a small demo showcasing the working of this extension. Finally, if you like the extension, do not forget to rate and review the extension in VS Gallery.     When I am trying to connect to a MySQL database from a remote computer I get a prompt saying: Connection Failed: [HY000] [MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver]Can't Connect to MySQL server on 'XXX.XXX.XX.XX' (10060) I have created a user account in the MySQL Administrator and added a host to enable remote access, I have also made an exception for my Windows Firewall on port 3306 but the connection still fails.     Hi, I just deployed a web application on JBOSS 4.2. It can be accessed locally only (http://localhost:8080/myApp). I cant access it from remote computer by typing its domain: (www.hostname.com:8080/myApp). I added Port 8080 as Exception in Windows Firewall. Note that the host (www.hostname.com) is reachable from remote computers via IIS on port 80. Thanks, Rod

    I am working remotely on a Windows Server via Remote Desktop Connection and some process has hung the server. I looked up how to bring up the Task Manager remote (equivalent of locally doing CTRL+ALT+DEL) and I found CTRL+ALT+END and it doesn't seem to work. I tried logging off and logging back on and the system is still up (tried earlier seeing the properties of My Comptuer, FYI). Does anyone know how I can escape this 'hindrance' and star fresh?!?

  • How do I control remote Windows 7 machine? VNC/RDP/?

    I have a Windows 7 laptop that's going out and about and I'd like to be able to admin' it from my Ubuntu (precise) desktop. While the laptop is in my office I can use Gnome's "Remote Desktop Viewer" (Vinagre) to connect via RDP. However, when it's in the office I don't really need RDP of course! And when it's out of the office I cannot control the routers/firewalls along the way, so I won't know the IP and cannot set up port forwards. I'm looking for a Ubuntu compatible way to achieve this. Nb. I can set up port forwards at the my office end, so a service on the laptop could try a "backwards" connection to my client.
