  • jQuery DataTables is messing op my CSS grids in IE8, how to fix?

    I am using ASP.NET MVC3 with the jQuery Datatable plug in. I am having an issues with my CSS layout when the datatable is on a page. If there is no datatable then everything displays fine. When the datatable is on the screen then it overlaps the footer of my website. I can't seem to get this to display correctly. I have a grid layout using the YUI3, and this is what I all use from YUI3 (in this order): cssreset-min cssfonts-min cssgrids-min cssbase-min This works fine in the latest version of FireFox. I am only testing on IE8, this is a requirement and most of the people at my work uses IE8. I have minified my HTML so that only the bare minimum is available. I have tried tried adding clear:both but it didn't work. Is the an online service like jsbin where I can paste/upload my HTML/CSS code/files? Code can viewed at: http://live.datatables.net/efosuj/3/edit. It displays correctly in the available viewer but when run separate in IE8 then it gives issues. UPDATE 2012-06-12 I managed to add the following and it works, but I would like to add it in a style, tried it but it didn't work: if (navigator.userAgent.toString().indexOf('MSIE') >= 0) { jQuery('#main-container').css('overflow', 'auto'); } This was added after the grid was loaded. Is this the only way to do this?

  • Automating deployments with the SQL Compare command line

    In my previous article, “Five Tips to Get Your Organisation Releasing Software Frequently” I looked at how teams can automate processes to speed up release frequency. In this post, I’m looking specifically at automating deployments using the SQL Compare command line. SQL Compare compares SQL Server schemas and deploys the differences. It works very effectively in scenarios where only one deployment target is required – source and target databases are specified, compared, and a change script is automatically generated and applied. But if multiple targets exist, and pressure to increase the frequency of releases builds, this solution quickly becomes unwieldy.   This is where SQL Compare’s command line comes into its own. I’ve put together a PowerShell script that loops through the Servers table and pulls out the server and database, these are then passed to sqlcompare.exe to be used as target parameters. In the example the source database is a scripts folder, a folder structure of scripted-out database objects used by both SQL Source Control and SQL Compare. This approach should be problem-free for the vast majority of changes, but it is still good practice to review and test a pre-generated deployment script prior to deployment. An alternative approach would be to pre-generate a single deployment script using SQL Compare, and run this en masse to multiple targets programmatically using sqlcmd, or using a tool like SQL Multi Script.  You can use the /ScriptFile, /report, and /showWarnings flags to generate change scripts, difference reports and any warnings.  See the commented out example in the PowerShell: #$arguments = @("/scripts1:$($scriptsPath)", "/server2:$($_.serverName)", "/database2:$($_.databaseName)", "/ScriptFile:update_$($_.environment+"_"+$_.databaseName).sql", "/report:update_$($_.environment+"_"+$_.databaseName).html" , "/reportType:Interactive", "/showWarnings", "/include:Identical") There is a drawback of running a pre-generated deployment script; it assumes that a given database target hasn’t drifted from its expected state. Often there are (rightly or wrongly) many individuals within an organization who have permissions to alter the production database, and changes can therefore be made outside of the prescribed development processes. The consequence is that at deployment time, the applied script has been validated against a target that no longer represents reality. The solution here would be to add a check for drift prior to running the deployment script. This is achieved by using sqlcompare.exe to compare the target against the expected schema snapshot using the /Assertidentical flag. Should this return any differences (sqlcompare.exe Exit Code 79), a drift report is outputted instead of executing the deployment script.  See the commented out example. # $arguments = @("/scripts1:$($scriptsPath)", "/server2:$($_.serverName)", "/database2:$($_.databaseName)", "/Assertidentical") Any checks and processes that should be undertaken prior to a manual deployment, should also be happen during an automated deployment. You might think about triggering backups prior to deployment – even better, automate the verification of the backup too.   You can use SQL Compare’s command line interface along with PowerShell to automate multiple actions and checks that you need in your deployment process. Automation is a practical solution where multiple targets and a higher release cadence come into play.     Hi, I've taken some sample code from http://sweux.com/blogs/smoura/index.php/wpf/2009/06/15/wpf-toolkit-datagrid-part-iv-templatecolumns-and-row-grouping/ that provides grouping of data in a WPF DataGrid. I'm modifying the example to use a DataTable instead of a Collection of entities. My problem is in translating a binding declaration {Binding Parent.IsExpanded}, which works fine where Parent is a reference to an entity that has the IsExpanded attribute, to something that will work for my weakly typed DataTable, where Parent is the name of a column and references another DataRow in the same DataTable. I've tried declarations like {Binding Parent.Items[IsExpanded]} and {Binding Parent("IsExpanded")} but none of these seem to work. How can I create a binding to the IsExpanded column of the DataRow Parent in my DataTable? Thanks in advance, Dave

    I am trying to write a generic extension to turn a ManagementObjectCollection into a DataTable. This is just to make things easier for a startup script/program I am writing. I have ran into a problem with CimType. I just want the DataGridView on my Windows form to submit any changes made to it to the database when the user clicks the "Save" button. Now ruleTableDA.Update(dt) is throwing the exception "Concurrency violation: the UpdateCommand affected 0 of the expected 1 records."

    Hello I have a ADO.NET dataTable with about 100.000 records. In this table there is a column "xyID" which has no values in it, because they are generated by insertion into my MSSQL Database. Now i have the problem, that i need this IDs for other processes. I am looking for a way to bulk copy this dataTable into the MSSQL database, and within the same "step" to "fill" my dataTable with the generated IDs. Thank you for your answers!

  • How to force ADO.Net to use only the System.String DataType in the readers TableSchema.

    Howdy, I am using an OleDbConnection to query an Excel 2007 Spreadsheet. I want force the OleDbDataReader to use only string as the column datatype. The system is looking at the first 8 rows of data and inferring the data type to be Double. The problem is that on row 9 I have a string in that column and the OleDbDataReader is returning a Null value since it could not be cast to a Double. I have used these connection strings: Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source="ExcelFile.xlsx";Persist Security Info=False;Extended Properties="Excel 12.0;IMEX=1;HDR=No" Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="ExcelFile.xlsx";Persist Security Info=False;Extended Properties="Excel 8.0;HDR=No;IMEX=1" Looking at the reader.GetSchemaTable().Rows[7].ItemArray[5], it's dataType is Double. Row 7 in this schema correlates with the specific column in Excel I am having issues with. ItemArray[5] is its DataType column Is it possible to create a custom TableSchema for the reader so when accessing the ExcelFiles, I can treat all cells as text instead of letting the system attempt to infer the datatype? I found some good info at this page: Tips for reading Excel spreadsheets using ADO.NET The main quirk about the ADO.NET interface is how datatypes are handled. (You'll notice I've been carefully avoiding the question of which datatypes are returned when reading the spreadsheet.) Are you ready for this? ADO.NET scans the first 8 rows of data, and based on that guesses the datatype for each column. Then it attempts to coerce all data from that column to that datatype, returning NULL whenever the coercion fails! Is it possible so specify the name of the tables in the SQL code, so that I can instead write this : DataTable datatableA = ds.Tables["NametbA"]; DataTable datatableB = ds.Tables["NametbB"]; I'm using SQL server 2008, if that makes a difference.

    I know this is a basic function of the DataGridView, but for some reason, I just can't get it to work. I just want the DataGridView on my Windows form to submit any changes made to it to the database when the user clicks the "Save" button. On form load, I populate the DataGridView and that's working fine.     I am using a datagrid which has many combobox fields in it, when I click the datagrid combobox the selected item or highlighted value is the last item in the list, but I would like it to highlight the first(top) item in the list. I know for just a combobox, all I need to do is change the combobox.selecteditem or combobox.selectedindex, but I'm not sure what to do in this case. I have binded the combobox to a table in the database and used a datatable to store the combobox values and then I add a row to the datatable, I think the reason the last item in the combobox is highlighted is because I added a row to the datatable.   • web service filling gridview awfully slow, as is paging/sorting

    I have a column in my datatable which is of DateTime Type. I only want the DatePart, hence when I use the ToShortDateTimeString it converts to short date but of string type. Hence when i reassign the string to the column of the datatable it again appends 12:00:00 to it. I cannot change the column type in my datatable. Is there any way to convert DateTime to ShortDateTime directly without converting to string?????

    Hey guys, so I've come across something which is perhaps a flaw in the Extension method .CopyToDataTable. This method is used by Importing (in VB.NET) System.Data.DataTableExtensions and then calling the method against an IEnumerable. You would do this if you want to filter a Datatable using LINQ, and then restore the DataTable at the end. i.e: Imports System.Data.DataRowExtensions Imports System.Data.DataTableExtensions Public Class SomeClass Private Shared Function GetData() As DataTable Dim Data As DataTable Data = LegacyADO.NETDBCall Data = Data.AsEnumerable.Where(Function(dr) dr.Field(Of Integer)("SomeField") = 5).CopyToDataTable() Return Data End Function End Class In the example above, the "WHERE" filtering might return no results. If this happens CopyToDataTable throws an exception because there are no DataRows. Why? The correct behavior should be to return a DataTable with Rows.Count = 0. Can anyone think of a clean workaround to this, in such a way that whoever calls CopyToDataTable doesn't have to be aware of this issue? System.Data.DataTableExtensions is a Static Class so I can't override the behavior....any ideas? Have I missed something? cheers UPDATE: I have submitted this as an issue to Connect.
