Must be really dumb today - sorry in advance; anyhow have this unordered list <ul> <li><div class="openuserform" >Info</div> <div class="userform"></div></li> <li><div class="openuserform" >Appearence</div> <div class="userform"></div></li> <li><div class="openuserform" >Pages</div> <div class="userform"></div></li> <li><div class="openuserform" >Services</div> <div class="userform"></div></li> <li><div class="openuserform" >Community</div> <div class="userform"></div></li> </ul> which on click <div class="openuserform" > I want to load a separate form e.g. $('.openusersform').live('click',(function(){ $('.userform').load('form page.php'); }); OK I can get the forms to load in the right div using $(this).next('.userform').show(); $('.userform').load('form page.php'); but it's very ugly (I think) and I can only every get the first form to process propery. It is laid out like (ul,li etc.) this so I can have each loaded form aligned under the relevant li. But I think there has to be a better way as I do not seem to get any if(){} stemnents working to process the forms i.e. if(form1){ $.ajax etc } if (form2) {more ajax} Suggestions please - thanks

Detecting what the target object is when NullReferenceException is thrown.

I'm sure we all have received the wonderfully vague "Object reference not set to instance of an Object" exception at some time or another. Identifying the object that is the problem is often a tedious task of setting breakpoints and inspecting all members in each statement. Does anyone have any tricks to easily and efficiently identify the object that causes the exception, either via programmatical means or otherwise? --edit It seems I was vague like the exception =). The point is to _not have to debug the app to find the errant object. The compiler/runtime does know that the object has been allocated, and that the object has not yet been instantiated. Is there a way to extract / identify those details in a caught exception @ W. Craig Trader Your explanation that it is a result of a design problem is probably the best answer I could get. I am fairly compulsive with defensive coding and have managed to get rid of most of these errors after fixing my habits over time. The remaining ones just tweak me to no end, and lead me to posting this question to the community. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

Move and rename file in android

I am trying to copy a file to another folder in the android, but so far, i got no success. I manage to do so with a selected image and when taking a photo, but not with files. I've read and tried several solutions passed by the community (searched over the forum and the internet), but none of it was able to solve my problem when copying. First things first. I added the permissions to my manifest: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" /> after that, before copying a file, i print its filepath and the directory file path: 06-10 11:11:11.700: I/System.out(1442): /mimetype/storage/sdcard/Misc/Javascript erros for Submit and Plan buttons in IE.doc 06-10 11:11:11.710: I/System.out(1442): /storage/sdcard/mywfm/checklist-files both exists: to copy the file to the expected folder I used the FileUtils: try { FileUtils.copyFile(selectedFile, dir); } catch (IOException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } The problem is: I get no exception and the file isn't there. I tried this solution either: How to move/rename file from internal app storage to external storage on Android? same thing, no exception, but no file either.

Strange DataTable behaviour

There´s a strange behaviour in my code which I can´t explain... I have worked arround it but I´d like to know the reason of this behaviour. My Code: If dataset.Tables.Count > 0 Then Dim rows() As DataRow = dataset.Tables(0).Select("FileID = " + fileid.ToString) For Each row As DataRow In rows... the one and only table in dataset is: 18 1 1 testpara42 19 1 2 Para2 23 2 1 Para1 24 2 2 Para42 Where the colums are: ParamID - FileID - ParaPos - Paravalue. I want do filter it so that the only rows I get are the ones with the correct fileid... the result when the selection string is "FileID = 1" is an array with 2 rows... everything is fine... but the filter string "FileID = 2" will return 0 Rows... A filter like "FileID < 1" returns 2 Rows correctly. I really cant´t explain this od behaviour, maybe one of the community does. The Table does have more entries but the Filter string just works with the "FileID = 1" selection. Excuse my bad english. Please explain my mistake to me.

Why would JSP tags appear in HTML source code?

I'm a front-end web developer at a company using Java on their server. As a front-end developer, I'm concerned with the HTML structure that the server produces, but I don't have control over anything our back-end team produces. Rather than ask someone on that team, I would like to gather knowledge from the Stackoverflow community so I can communicate intelligently with the back-end team. So, I am curious as to what would cause certain JSP tags to appear in the rendered HTML that is sent to the browser. We have tags in our HTML source such as: <flow:fileRef id="vfileColor" fileId="vfile.color"/> <flow:fileRef id="StyleDir" fileId="StyleDir"/> <flow:fileRef id="vfileStylesheet" fileId="vfile.stylesheet"/> I am more interested in knowing why these appear, not as much about what they do. Is there a server setting for Tomcat/Apache/etc. that would hide these tags from the browser? Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

problems piping in node.js

The problem is in the pipe among the input stream (readable) and output stream (writable) when we have a async module before (in this case the setTimeOut timing). The pipe doesn't work and nothing is sent to dummy server in 8083 port. Maybe, when we have a async call (in this case the setTimeOut) before the pipe call, the inputstream change to a state "not readable", and after the async call the pipe doesn't send anything. This is just an example...we test it with more async modules from node.js community with the same result (ldapjs, etc)... We try to fix it with: - request.readable =true; //before pipe call - request.pipe(proxy_request, {end : false}); with the same result (the pipe doesn't work). Can anybody help us? JavaScript: Replacement for XMLSerializer.seralizeToString()?

I'm developing a website using the Seam framework and the RichFaces AJAX library (these isn't really all that important to the problem at hand - just some background). I seem to have uncovered a bug, however, in RichFaces which, in certain instances, will cause AJAX-based updating to fail in IE8 (see here for more info: http://community.jboss.org/message/585737). Experiences wanted: producing a jar artifact in IntelliJ

Developing with IntelliJ 9.0.2 Community Edition, on the Mac. This is a follow-up to this post about including jar files in an artifact, which has not received any replies. I'm hoping that the reason is that somehow, in creating my artifact (or setting my project settings), I unwittingly did something which people don't tend to do, and which is causing my problem, and that by asking people here to share how they create jar artifacts and set up projects, I will discover what it is. To recap: I have a Java project which depends on two library files. I need to package up the entire thing, with the jars inlined (such that on doing jar -tfv <filename> I see ALL the classes listed, including the ones in the two libraries), into a single jar file. I can make an artifact, I can add the library files to the Output Layout pane, but I CANNOT, no matter what I do, I cannot get the "Inline Artifact" item in the context menu to be selectable (i.e. non-grey) when I right-click on one or other library file. The thing is, making a jar which contains library files as well as the project code is NOT an unusual situation in the Java world! So I figure there are lots of IntelliJ folks out there who have done what I need to do. And I would really like to hear from you folks. What project settings do you use? (be specific, please :-) And exactly how do you set up your jar artifacts? (again, as many specific details as possible, please :-) Clearly, I'd be particularly interested to hear from folks with similar setups to mine (above) who are successfully doing what I need to do. Designing for varying mobile device resolutions, i.e. iPhone 4 & iPhone 3G

As the design community moves to design applications & interfaces for mobile devices, a new problem has arisen: Varying Screen DPI's. Here's the situation: Touch: * iPhone 3G/S ~ 160 dpi * iPhone 4 ~ 300 dpi * iPad ~ 126 dpi * Android device @ 480p ~ 200 dpi Point / click: * Laptop @ 720p ~ 96 dpi * Desktop @ 720p ~ 72 dpi There is certainly a clear distinction between desktop and mobile so having two separate front-ends to the same app is logical, especially when considering one is "touch"-based and the other is "point/click"-based. The challenge lies in designing static graphical elements that will scale between, say, 160 dpi and 300+ dpi, and get consistent and clean design across zoom levels. Any thoughts on how to approach this? Here are some scenarios, but each has drawbacks as well: * Design a single set of assets (high resolution), then adjust zoom levels based on detected resolution / device o Drawbacks: Performance caused by code layering, varying device support of Zoom * Develop & optimize multiple variations of image and CSS assets, then hide / show each based on device o Drawbacks: Extra work in design & QA. Anyone have thoughts or experience on how to deal with this? We should certainly be looking at methods that use / support HTML5 and CSS3.

I have created a variable in a custom config file, called NUMBER_OF_IMAGES_PER_ITEM. It is based on this variable that the system generates the number of image fields per item. Questions: What should the forms and the template be like? Can ModelForm be used to achieve the requirements? For the view function, what do I need to watch out other than making sure to save Item before ItemImage objects?

Building html structure in php or javascript?

I've been doing a lot of ajax calls and using the returned data to build html with javascript. However, I've noticed some people are returning the constructed html in the ajax calls since they're doing it all in php. What is the preferred method? I have a bunch of stuff already using javascript, so I guess I would prefer not changing everything to use just php. But, I'm assuming php would be more "secure."? Tools for Automated Source Code Editing

I'm working on a research project to automatically modify code to include advanced mathematical concepts (like adding random effects into a loop or encapsulating an existing function with a new function that adds in a more advanced physical model). My question to the community is: are there are any good tools for manipulating source code directly? I want to do things like Swap out functions Add variable declarations wherever they are required Determine if a function is multiplied by anything Determine what functions are called on a line of code See what parameters are passed to a function and replace them with alternatives Introduce new function calls on certain lines of code Wherever possible just leaving the rest of the code untouched and write out the results I never want to actually compile the code I only want to understand what symbols are used, replace and add in a syntactically correct way, and be able to declare variables at the right position. I've been using a minimal flex/bison approach with some success but I do not feel the it is robust. I hate to take on writing a full language parser just to add some new info to the end of a line or the top of a function. It seems like this is almost what is going to be required but it also seems like there should be some tools out there to do these types of manipulations already. The code to be changed is in a variety of languages, but I'm particularly interested in FORTRAN. Any thoughts?

Best strategies for reading J code

I've been using J for a few months now, and I find that reading unfamiliar code (e.g. that I didn't write myself) is one of the most challenging aspects of the language, particularly when it's in tacit. After a while, I came up with this strategy: 1) Copy the code segment into a word document 2) Take each operator from (1) and place it on a separate line, so that it reads vertically 3) Replace each operator with its verbal description in the Vocabulary page 4) Do a rough translation from J syntax into English grammar 5) Use the translation to identify conceptually related components and separate them with line breaks 6) Write a description of what each component from (5) is supposed to do, in plain English prose 7) Write a description of what the whole program is supposed to do, based on (6) 8) Write an explanation of why the code from (1) can be said to represent the design concept from (7). Although I learn a lot from this process, I find it to be rather arduous and time-consuming -- especially if someone designed their program using a concept I never encountered before. So I wonder: do other people in the J community have favorite ways to figure out obscure code? If so, what are the advantages and disadvantages of these methods?

Should I Teach My Son Programming? What approaches should I take? [closed]

I was wondering if it's a good idea to teach object oriented programming to my son? I was never really good at math as a kid, but I think since I've started programming it's given me a greater ability to understand math by being better able to visualise relationships between abstract models. I thought it might give him a better advantage in learning & applying logical & mathematical concepts throughout his life if he was able to take advantage of the tools available to programmers. what would be the best programming fields, techniques and/or concepts? What approach should I take? what concepts should I avoid? what fields of mathematics would he find this benfits him most? He's only 2 now so it wouldn't be for another few years before I do this, (and even at that, only from a very high level point of view). Storyline Trying to migrate a database from MySQL to PostgreSQL. All the documentation I have read covers, in great detail, how to migrate the structure. I have found very little documentation on migrating the data. The schema has 13 tables (which have been migrated successfully) and 9 GB of data. MySQL version: 5.1.x PostgreSQL version: 8.4.x I want to use the R programming language to analyze the data using SQL select statements; PostgreSQL has PL/R, but MySQL has nothing (as far as I can tell). A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... Create the database location (/var has insufficient space; also dislike having the PostgreSQL version number everywhere -- upgrading would break scripts!): sudo mkdir -p /home/postgres/main sudo cp -Rp /var/lib/postgresql/8.4/main /home/postgres sudo chown -R postgres.postgres /home/postgres sudo chmod -R 700 /home/postgres sudo usermod -d /home/postgres/ postgres All good to here. Install MegaCli to Monitor Perc 5/i in Nexentastor 3

I have a Dell 2950 with a Perc 5/i Raid controller that we've already installed Nexentastor 3 Community Edition on. We setup a raid-10 array that and put a ZFS pool on top of the hardware. As I understand, in this configuration ZFS/Nexentastor will not be able to tell when a disk fails in the array. Obviously, this is not optimal. Since the Dell Perc 5/i controller is a rebranded LSI controller, you should be able to use the MegaCli utility to manage the array and monitor its condition. I had seen in a separate forum that the Perc 5/i is very similar to the LSI MegaRAID 8480E, so I tried installing the MegaCli utility at the link below. However I didn't know how Sysprep worked before attempting this so it was a time-consuming nightmare (even after reviewing VMware vSphere ESXi 5's documentation)! I think I've figure out what I'm supposed to be doing, but it's still not working. The biggest problem at this point is that vSphere Client vCenter Customization Specification IP address information is not sticking when I load a Sysprep XML file with just 1 basic setting! This can only be a bug. Here is the process I'm using: PROCESS for Windows - vSphere Client Install Windows OS install VM Tools customize Windows (GPOs can be used to do this after deployment) install Applications (GPOs can be used to do this after deployment too) shutdown the VM convert the VM to a template create a custom Windows Sysprep XML answer file with desired customizations View Management Customization Specifications Manager create "New" Specification for "Target Virtual Machine OS" select Windows check "Use Custom Sysprep Answer File" (ADDS: Custom Sysprep File. XenServer 6.0.2 path to installation media contains non-ascii characters

XenServer 6.0.2 install fails no matter what I do. I have confirmed that the md5 checksum on my ISO file is good. I tried installing from a mounted ISO file (remotely via iKVM). I tried installing from physical media. I tried installing from a bootable USB stick (using syslinux + contents of the ISO) All attempts have yielded the same result: When verifying the installation media, at 0% initializing, the following is reported: "Some packages appeared to be damaged." followed by a list of pretty much all the gz2 and rpm packages. If I skip the media verification the installer proceeds and then gives me an error when it reaches "Installing from base pack" at 0% which states "An unrecoverable error has occurred. The error was: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xff in position 20710: ordinal not in range(128) Please refer to your user guide, or contact a Technical Support Representative, for further details" there is one option left which is to reboot. Apparently at some point during the processing of the repositories on the installation media non-ascii characters are found, which causes the installer to quit. How do I fix this? Here are my specs TYAN S8236 motherboard 2 AMD Opteron 6234 processors LSI2008 card connected to 2 1TB Seagate Constellation drives SATA, 1 500GB Corsair m4 SSD SATA and 1 Corsair Forse 3 - 64GB SSD SATA Onboard SATA connected to a slim DVD-+RW. And guess what, the .py extention of the file you have to edit in this link community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/1168 means the installer is written in python. Python is interpreted, so now to find the install file responsible for this error. – cmaduro 6 hours ago The file that generates the error upon verification is /opt/xensource/installer/tui/repo.py. Mac OS X behind OpenLDAP and Samba

I have been battling for a week now to get my Mac (Mountain Lion) to authenticate on my home network's OpenLDAP and Samba. From several sources, like the Ubuntu community docs, and other blogs, and after a hell of a lot of trial and error and piecing things together, I have created a samba.ldif that will pass the smbldap-populate when combined with apple.ldif and I have a fully functional OpenLDAP server and a Samba PDC that uses LDAP to authenticate the OS X Machine. The problem is that when I login, the home directory is not created or pulled from the server. Failed looking up user domain root; url='file://localhost/Network/Servers/172.17.148.186/home/sam/' path=/Network/Servers/172.17.148.186/home/sam/ err=-43 uid=9000 euid=9000 If you're wondering where /Network/Servers/IP/home/sam comes from, it's from a couple of blogs that said the OpenLDAP attribute apple-user-homeDirectory should have that value and the NFSHomeDirectory on the mac should point to apple-user-homeDirectory I also set the attr apple-user-homeurl to <home_dir><url>smb://172.17.148.186/sam/</url><path></path></home_dir> which I found on this forum. Any help is appreciated, because I'm banging my head against the wall at this point. By the way, I intend to create a blog on my vps just for this, and create an install script in python that people can download so no one has to go through what I've had to go through this week :) After some sleep I am going to try to login from a windows machine and report back here. Install Ubuntu 12.04 in UEFI mode on a HP Pavilion dv6-6c40ca

I have recently (as of July 2012) bought a HP Pavilion dv6-6c40ca laptop. It came pre-installed with Windows 7 on an MBR. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on it on a GPT partition in what I think is BIOS emulation mode. I made a BIOS-Grub partition so the install didn't fail. That is what it is for .. right? Now I want to upgrade to UEFI mode. How would I Install Ubuntu 12.04 in UEFI mode on a HP Pavilion dv6-6c40ca. Or is it impossible? My laptop, despite its new age may not be UEFI 2.0+ capable. If it isn't how can I install a software UEFI (i.e. a DUET such as the one by tianocore). Or is this too impossible? I have partitioned the drive using GParted as a GPT drive. Created a 200MB partition at the beginning of the drive with a FAT32 file system. Given the 200MB partition a label of "EFI". Set the boot flag on the 200MB partition. What should a do next to install Ubuntu 12.04? Um .. how do you tell what mode your live CD is in?! And how do you change it if the mode is wrong?

Linux Mint Wireless doesn't connect

I'm having a great problem, I've installed Linux mint debian edition (LMDE), and following this tutorial http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/161 I did installed the network driver. The available connections appears to me, but when i try to connect to my connection at first time, I got this message: "(4) Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." And the following tries, I got this another message: "(32) Insufficient privileges." I'm accepting ideas. Thanks.
