• Introducing the Oracle Parcel Service&ndash;Example/Reference Application

  Over the last few weeks the product management team has been working on a webcast series that is airing in EMEA.  It is a 5-episode series where we talk about different features of WebLogic and show how to build applications that take advantage of these features.  Each session is focused at a different layer of the technology stack, and you can find the schedule below. • Loading Obj Files in Soya3d engine

  I recently just found soya3d and from what i have seen through the tutorials i will be able to make exactly what i wanted with python skills. Now i have built this map generator. The only issue is that i can not manage to understand from any documents how to load obj files. At first i figured that i had to convert it to a .data file, but i dont understand how to do this. I just want to load a simple model of a house. I tried using the soya_editor, but i can not figure out at all how to do anything with that.   Dear Friends and Colleagues After 8.5 years with Plumtree/BEA/Oracle, it is time for me to move on to something new and exciting. Tomorrow, May 21, will be my last day with Oracle. Prior to joining Plumtree back in 2001, I had not stayed with any one company for more than two years at a time and I really thought that that might be the case with Plumtree even then. However, 8.5 years later, I can definitely say that it has been a great ride with very few regrets. I have made some fantastic friends and have learned something from each and every one of you. I have definitely considered this to be a rewarding experience and I will miss all of you. I do hope that you will keep in contact. You never know, our paths may cross again in the future. • Where Is SilverLight Toolkit Installed On My PC?

  This is first question that ran though my mind once I finished installation of SilverLight Toolkit today. When we install the toolkit, the installation wizard does not ask us for any installation folder options and after completion of installation there will not be any entries in to the All Programs section of start menu. After going through the documents, I found that installer silently places all the binaries, themes, samples documents under program files folder depending on the version of the toolkit. If you installed version 4.0 of the toolkit then it will be placed in the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Silverlight\v4.0 Here is the list of other useful folder of SilverLight toolkit that we refer to often Bin  C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Silverlight\v4.0\Toolkit\Apr10\Bin   Samples  C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Silverlight\v4.0\Toolkit\Apr10\Samples   Themes  C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Silverlight\v4.0\Toolkit\Apr10\Themes   Source  C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Silverlight\v4.0\Toolkit\Apr10\Source Please note this above listed folder names will not be exactly same on your computer as they vary from one version to another. First open the base folder  C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Silverlight and then navigate through the available folders for locating the required ones. Hope this helps you. Talk to a C-level executive, and the conversation turns to mobile, and the question “How do I get me some of that?” comes up. Talk to other developers, and they tell you they’re targeting mobile devices. Mobile has become a big deal as smartphones have taken hold in the consumer marketplace.In the years leading up to the current focus on mobile applications and devices, Web developers have been adding more and more client-side functionality to their applications. You can see this in the use of client-side JavaScript libraries like jQuery.With the growth of the market for mobile devices, the ability to create applications that run across platforms is very important for developers and for businesses that are trying to keep their expenses in check. There are a set of applications, mostly in the area of content consumption (think Amazon.com), that run well in a mobile Web browser. Unfortunately, there are differences between Web browsers on various mobile devices. The goal of the recently introduced jQuery Mobile (jQM) library is to provide cross-browser support to allow developers to build applications that can run across the various mobile Web browsers and provide the same—or at least a very similar—user interface.The jQuery Mobile library was introduced in an alpha release in the fall of 2010 and released to manufacturing in November 2011. At the time of this writing, the current version of jQuery Mobile is 1.1.1. By the time you read this, jQuery Mobile will almost certainly have reached version 1.2.0. The library has been embraced by Microsoft, Adobe and other companies for mobile Web development. In August 2011, jQM had 32 percent market share compared with other mobile JavaScript frameworks such as iWebKit and jQTouch. This market share is impressive given that it started from zero little more than 12 months ago, and the 1.0 release is the first officially supported release.

  The federal government recently announced a broadband initiative that calls for 260 million homes to have 100Mbps Internet connections by the year 2020. This got us wondering, how fast is your current Internet connection? Photo by roland When it comes to the speed of our Internet connection, we all want the maximum possible. The FCC recently announced their National Broadband Plan, which is an initiative to improve the Internet infrastructure in the United States and provide higher speeds to everyone. You’ve also undoubtedly heard the news about Google getting into the mix with their program to bring ultra high-speed fiber broadband to 50,000 users in select cities. While we wait for those programs to come into fruition, we thought it would be cool to check out what kinds of speeds you’re getting now. Test Your Internet Connection Speed There are several sites out there you can use to test your Internet speeds, but probably the best site is Speedtest.net. It’s easy to use, and allows you test download and upload speeds to and from various locations in the US and throughout the world. If you already know the speeds you’re getting leave a comment and let us know. If you use Speedtest.com, just keep in mind that our comment system won’t allow you to copy their result links, but you can simply tell us what you get in the results.   There’s been a lot of recent talk in the industry about “big data”.  Much can be said about the importance of big data and the results from it, but you need to always consider the customer experience when analyzing and applying customer data. Personalization and merchandising drive the user experience.  Big data should enable you to gain valuable insight into each of your customers and apply that insight at the moment they are on your Web site, talking to one of your call center agents, or any other touchpoint.  While past customer experience is important, you need to combine that with what your customer is doing on your Web site now as well what they are doing and saying on social networking sites.  It’s key to have a 360 degree view of your customer across all of your touchpoints in order to provide that relevant and consistent experience that they come to expect when interacting with your brand. Big data can enable you to effectively market, merchandize, and recommend the right products to the right customers and the right time.  By taking customer data and applying it to product recommendations, you have an opportunity to gain a greater share of wallet through the cross-selling and up-selling of additional products and services.  You can also build sustaining loyalty programs to continue to engage with your customers throughout their long-term relationship with your brand.

• Announcing Release of Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.1!

  Oct 26, 2012We are very happy to announce the release of  Oracle Solaris Cluster 4.1, providing High Availability (HA) and  Disaster Recovery (DR) capabilities for Oracle Solaris 11.1.  This is yet another proof of Oracle's continued investment in Oracle Solaris technologies such as Oracle Solaris Cluster. For this new release we have improved the Solaris Cluster integration within the Oracle environment. For example  we've created new agents such as PeopleSoft JobScheduler or added the support of the Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance replication in the Geo Edition module (to facilitate disaster recovery in multi-site configuration equipped with those types of storage.) We have also extended the Oracle Solaris Zone Cluster feature with support of Oracle Solaris 10 zone clusters and exclusive-IP to facilitate deployment of virtualized or cloud architecture.And there are many more new features to discover in this release. • Announcing Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 3 for Oracle Linux

  We are excited to announce the general availability of the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 3 for Oracle Linux 6. The Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 3 (UEK R3) is Oracle's third major supported release of its heavily tested and optimized Linux kernel for Oracle Linux 6 on the x86_64 architecture. UEK R3 is based on mainline Linux version 3.8.13. Some notable highlights of this release include: Inclusion of DTrace for Linux into the kernel (no longer a separate kernel image). DTrace for Linux now supports probes for user-space statically defined tracing (USDT) in programs that have been modified to include embedded static probe points Production support for Linux containers (LXC) which were previously released as a technology preview Btrfs file system improvements (subvolume-aware quota groups, cross-subvolume reflinks, btrfs send/receive to transfer file system snapshots or incremental differences, file hole punching, hot-replacing of failed disk devices, device statistics) Improved support for Control Groups (cgroups)  The ext4 file system can now store the content of a small file inside the inode (inline_data) TCP fast open (TFO) can speed up the opening of successive TCP connections between two endpoints FUSE file system performance improvements on NUMA systems Support for the Intel Ivy Bridge (IVB) processor family Integration of the OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution (OFED) 2.0 stack, supporting a wide range of Infinband protocols including updates to Oracle's Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS) Numerous driver updates in close coordination with our hardware partners UEK R3 uses the same versioning model as the mainline Linux kernel version. • How does the PPA fit into the scenario of publishing an application to the Ubuntu Software Center?

  I've been going through docs for the past couple of hours but I haven't understood what the PPA is? I have a cross-platform Java application that I'd like to publish to the Ubuntu Software Center. My application is open-source and I'm using Github. Apparently, publishing applications to the store isn't as simple as uploading a deb package - am I right? I need to create an account on Launchpad and put all my code there. I don't intend to move from Git to Bzr merely for the sake of publishing to the app store but luckily, one is able to set up source-code mirroring from Github to Launchpad. Since my application is still very premature, it'll have updates fairly often. When I build my application on my machine, do I simply go my Ubuntu App Developer page and upload the new DEB package or do they build my application from source? What exactly is the PPA for? I don't think I'll need too many of the Launchpad features so I'd like to stick to Github if possible. (Publishing for Ubuntu really isn't trivial. I can see why there are so many developers out there who haven't published their applications to the Ubuntu Software Center. Publishing an Android applications has been the easiest so far.)
