• Operation timeout thrown using WebDav

  I build a desktop application in C# to send an email notification to a set of subscribed users. I am using Webdav to implement this function and using OWA (Outlook web access) and everything works fine till the 33 mail then 'Operation Timeout' exception is thrown. I can rerun my application to send emails to the remaining users but again after some emails again exception occurrs. Of course i could like to perform this operation in one run. I've tried adding some timeout value to my HttpWebRequest object and also put some Thread.Spleep value after sending each mail so that each http web request doesn't interfere with the following request. But now i am stuck with this timeout exception and no idea how to handle it. One idea would be that my logged in session in owa expired but i am loggin in each time a send a new email. Please can you provide me some help if you experienced with Web dav.

• How to transfer SQLite db to web server on android phone

  Hi, I have an application that creates an SQLite database and saves information to it over the course of a day. At the end of the day i want to export this database to a web server. Could anyone point me in the right direction for this? Should I use httppost or put. I have researched this myself online but there seems to be so many different ways to explore. The server side does not exist yet either. I have access to an apache server so i am hoping to use that. Could anyone advise me the best/most simple way to do this? Thanks

• Any experience on Sitecore CMS using Windows Sharepoint Services?

  Hi guys, I plan to develop a solution based on Sitecore CMS which would allow the client company to manage their documents in a Sharepoint-fashion (versioning, diffs??). Of course, we're after limiting the number of licences required for the project, and the client doesn't yet have licences for MOSS, so we couldn't simply use the Sitecore Sharepoint Connector which from everything I read requires the MOSS installation, and won't work with bare WSS. From what I know Sitecore CMS doesn't version documents as such, but is there a possibility for a workaround? Ideally we'd work with Documents and Files in the same fashion as with normal pages, which enables DIFFs and stuff. Any ideas? Thanks, Marcin B

  Hello. My application is a product which will have reporting capabilities. The product, when in production, is expected to have several ad-hoc report defined by the end users. I am looking for a platform that can be tailored to harness the business entities and extend reporting capabilities (definition & execution) to the end user. Here are some constraints: From the usability standpoint, I like what MS Access reports offer. But of course it is not suitable for the target web application. However, it certainly is a source of inspiration usability wise. Cost is a constraint. So something recommended from open source world will be appreciated. Otherwise too I'd like to know. The product in question is somewhat 'generic' in nature. Mine is a ASP.Net platform.

Coding styles are often used for specific program languages and some styles in one coding language might not be considered appropriate for others. Of course some coding standards can be applied across many different program languages.   hi , i want to implement a web service which is both in java and .net.but i will first create a wcf service and later convert the code to java . for securing the webservice , i have this in my mind. i shall be implementing asp.net form authentication type of stuff . i intent to sent a token to the client on providing valid userID and password to the login method. in return i would send a token. on all other service operations i shall check the token . Now i have a wcf client and a wcf service . what should be the shortest way forward ?should i use soap auth header to send the user ID and password and how should the token be transported ( in which field ? http or soap's ?) . P.S: of course i shall enable ssl later.

  Using a DataTable or DataView, one can specify the binding in XAML for example as follows: <Image Source="{Binding Thumbnail}" /> In my case I have created a List collection of DataRow objects and the above is not working. This is my data source: List<DataRow> I could of course convert the List< to a DataTable, but I am curious if there was a way to specify the binding in XAML to access the "Thumbnail" column within the DataRow that is stored in a List< collection.   Hi all, I just find out about the power of date js, And its great!!! As I am a newbie I was wondering if there is any kind of general validitation for different types of full dates. eg. var d1 = Date.parse('2000-10-18, 10:06 AM'); alert(d1.toString('HH:mm')); If date is ('200-10-18, 10:06 AM'), of course it doesn't like it. So my question is if there is any quick way to validate the full date, rather than having to validate one by one. Thanks.

• Should I trust Redis for data integrity?

  In my current project, I have PostgreSQL as my master DB, and Redis as kind of a slave, e.g., when some user adds another as a friend, first the relationship will be stored in PostgreSQL and then a friend list in Redis will be updated. When some user's friend list is requested, it will be pulled out of Redis instead of PostgreSQL. The question is: when I update the friend list in Redis, should I get a fresh copy outof PostgreSQL, and replace the old list in Redis with the new one or should I keep the old list and simply SADD the userid into the list? The latter is of course best for performance, but intuitively the former does a better job in keep the data integrity? And if something like Celery is used, is the second method worth the risk?

• New NCover 3.4.2 makes all my MSTest unit tests fail

  Yesterday, I decided to install the newest NCover version (3.4.2). However, when I ran it on my existing .ncover configuration file, the NCover output suddenly reported that all my MSTest tests failed. Of course those tests succeed when ran within Visual Studio. Because of this, NCover isn't able to determine any coverage. Somehow the old configuration doesn't seem to work with the new version. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be or how to solve it? Btw. Here is my ncover configuration. • Is it bad programming style to have a single, maybe common, generic exception?

  Hi, so in my program I have parts where I use try catch blocks like this try { DirectoryInfo dirInfo = new DirectoryInfo(someString); //I don't know if that directory exists //I don't know if that string is valid path string... it could be anything //Some operations here } catch(Exception iDontCareWhyItFailed) { //Didn't work? great... we will say: somethings wrong, try again/next one } Of course I probably could do checks to see if the string is valid path (regex), then I would check if directory exists, then I could catch various exceptions to see why my routine failed and give more info... But in my program it's not really necessary. Now I just really need to know if this is acceptable, and what would a pro say/think about that. Thanks a lot for attention.

  Imagine I have a csv with and each value is an integer. so the first value is the INTEGER 100. I want fscanf() to read this line, and either tell me it's an integer ONLY, or not. So, it would pass 100 but fail on 100t. What i've been trying to get work is "%d," where the comma is the delimiter of my CSV. so the whole function is fscanf(fp, "%d,", &count) Unfortunately, this fails to fail on '100t,' works on '100' and works on 't'. so it just isn't distinguishing between 100 and 100t (all of these numbers are followed by commas, of course

• Filtering out emoticons using sed

  Hello, I have a grep expression using cygwin grep on Win. grep -a "\\,,/\|\\m/\|\\m/\\>\.</\\m/\|:u" all_fbs.txt > rockon_fbs.txt Once I identify the emoticon class, however, I want to strip them out of the data. However, the same regexp above within a sed results in a syntax error (yes, I realize I could use /d instead of //g, but this doesn't make a difference, I still get the error.) sed "s/\(\\,,/\|\\m/\|\\m/\\>\.</\\m/\|:u\)*//g" The full line is: grep -a "\\,,/\|\\m/\|\\m/\\>\.</\\m/\|:u" all_fbs.txt | sed "s/\(\\,,/\|\\m/\|\\m/\\>\.</\\m/\|:u\)*//g" | sed "s/^/ROCKON\t/" > rockon_fbs.txt The result is: sed: -e expression #1, char 14: unknown option to `s' I know it's coming from the sed regexp I'm asking about it b/c if I remove that portion of the full line, then I get no error (but, of course, the emoticons are not filtered out). • Programmitically accessing internal storage (not SD card) on Verizon HTC Droid Incredible (Android)

  Hello, I'm trying to find information on how to programmatically access the HTC Droid Incredible's supposed 8GB of internal storage. To determine the external storage (SD Card) location, I'm using android.os.Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(). I've not been able to find any corollary for internal phone storage. In examining HTC/Google Nexus One, Motorola Droid, and HTC Dream/G1 phones, there (as would be expected) does not appear to be any mount point for such arbitrary internal storage. On these phones the internal storage is divided amongst /data, /system, and /cache partitions. The Incredible's internal storage is certainly not going to be located in /system. /cache is also unlikely given that it is globally non-readable/non-executable. I'd read in reviews that the phone will still be limited to 512MB or so for apps, suggesting that it is not simply a subdirectory of /data. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I do not have access to a Droid Incredible unit myself, of course.

• To what point is making an HTML page valid worth it?

  Since a long time ago, when I found out about the W3C Validator, I made sure every HTML document I made was valid HTML. However, I think sometimes it just isn't necessary to waste time making it valid. Of course, for actual Internet pages may be important, but is making pages on an Intranet, or even little front-ends that are used with other programs, when the HTML page renders correctly in the most used browsers (not necessarily counting IE 6 and 7). I think I'm mostly talking about little improvements over code, such as wrapping every shown element of the page on <p> or <div> tags.

  Hello, I am trying to determine how to get the height on a block of latex output (not the whole document, and not the code..but rather a block of output). As an example of what I am trying to accomplish: i were to have the latex code $\sum_{i=0}^\infty \frac{1}{n}\infty$ \newline hello world \newline hello universe its output would be something like 2 inches high. Of course, the height of the above block of text is dependent on a number of things-font, margin size, etc, as changing any of these parameters changes how many inches that output would be.   Being a CS student I've had to take a course in basic software engineering. I was a little curious to find such elaborate "software development processes", like the spiral model, the waterfall model, et cetera. Some of these methodologies seem a little antiquated to me and, after speaking with several employed developers, I can't seem to find anyone who actually adheres to these models. Does anyone here have experience working under the guidance of these models? Were they useful to you and your team during the development of your product? Or are these models just some way to communicate a sense of progression to interested parties outside of the development team?

  When I use the ViewData.ModelMetadata.Properties in order to loop the properties (with an additional Where(modelMetadata => modelMetadata.ShowForEdit && !ViewData.TemplateInfo.Visited(modelMetadata))), and thereby create a generic edit view, the properties of the view model's base class are rendered last. Is it possible to use a clever OrderBy() or is there another way to first get the properties of the base class, and then the sub class'? Reverse won't do the trick since the ordering of each class' properties is perfectly fine. A workaround would of course be composition + delegation, but since we don't have mixins, it's too un-DRY IMHO, why I seek a better solution if possible.

• Is ruby ||= intelligent?

  I have a question regarding the ||= statement in ruby and this is of particular interest to me as I'm using it to write to memcache. What I'm wondering is, does ||= check the receiver first to see if it's set before calling that setter, or is it literally an alias to x = x || y This wouldn't really matter in the case of a normal variable but using something like: CACHE[:some_key] ||= "Some String" could possibly do a memcache write which is more expensive than a simple variable set. I couldn't find anything about ||= in the ruby api oddly enough so I haven't been able to answer this myself. Of course I know that: CACHE[:some_key] = "Some String" if CACHE[:some_key].nil? would achieve this, I'm just looking for the most terse syntax.

  Hi, I have a scenario: There is a Slideshow running in PowerPoint. I want to control the movement [Next and Previous] of the slides. Of course it is possible with the [ and < button on the keyboard], but is there any way in which I can have a custom application listening to the Next and Previous controls? As in, my custom application has nothing but 2 buttons, next and previous, when I click either, the button's event handler should pass the control to the Power Point Application running the slideshow. And thus, the powerpoint will move the slideshow back or forward? Somewhat similar to the way remote, wireless Power Point Presenters work on the s/w end. Thank You.

  Hi, I have a Freemarker template which contains a bunch of placeholders for which values are supplied when the template is processed. I want to conditionally include part of the template if the userName variable is supplied, something like: [#if_exists userName] Hi ${userName}, How are you? [/#if_exists] However, the FreeMarker manual seems to indicate that if_exists is deprecated, but I can't find another way to achieve this. Of course, I could simple providing an additional boolean variable isUserName and use that like this: [#if isUserName] Hi ${userName}, How are you? [/#if] But if there's a way of checking whether userName exists then I can avoid adding this extra variable. Cheers, Don

• sql select statement with a group by

  I have data in 2 tables, and I want to create a report. Table A: tableAID (primary key) name Table B: tableBID (primary key) grade tableAID (foreign key, references Table A) There is much more to both tables, but those are the relevant columns. The query I want to run, conceptually, is this: select TableA.name, avg(TableB.grade) where TableB.tableAID = TableA.tableAID The problem of course is that I'm using an aggregate function (avg), and I can rewrite it like this: select avg(grade), tableAID from TableB group by tableAID but then I only get the ID of TableA, whereas I really need that name column which appears in TableA, not just the ID. Is it possible to write a query to do this in one statement, or would I first need to execute the second query I listed, get the list of id's, then query each record in TableA for the name column... seems to me I'm missing something obvious here, but I'm (quite obviously) not an sql guru...

• git: programmatically know by how much the branch is ahead/behind a remote branch

  I would like to extract the information that is printed after a github status, which looks like: # On branch master # Your branch is ahead of 'origin/master' by 2 commits. Of course I can parse the output of git status but this is not recommended since this human readable output is liable to change. There are two problems: How to know the remote tracked branch? It is often origin/branch but need not be. How to get the numbers? How to know whether it is ahead/behind? By how many commits? And what about the diverged branch case?
