  Hi, I wanted to know how I could find the previous active control on a page. I have a couple of textboxes and a button, and when i am on a certain textbox and I click the button, I want to highlight that textbox. I have the highlight functionality covered, but I don't know how to find out which textbox to run the function on... Please help, Thanks!

I can also see that printf() allows you to embed variables inside and do some stuff like formatting. Is puts() merely a primitive version of printf().   Is it possible to have a pdf file that asks a user a set of questions and then writes their answers to a file, then next time it is viewed loads those answers as default values? I know pdfs can include javascript and have figured out how to add javascript to a pdf with iText (http://itextpdf.com/) but don't know how to prompt for user input or write to a file from inside the pdf.   I know this is probably a very obvious answer and that I'm exposing myself to less-than-helpful snarky comments, but I don't know the answer so here goes. If Python compiles to bytecode at runtime, is it just that initial compiling step that takes longer? If that's the case wouldn't that just be a small upfront cost in the code (ie if the code is running over a long period of time, do the differences between C and python diminish?)

  Please consider the following /root/.profile: export PS1=value1 export x=value2 How come the login shell shows the expected prompt (and $x as value2), while the subshells keep showing $x as value2 but $PS1 as '#'?
