  • How can I determine the trending pages on my site?

    I'm looking to what what the "hot" pages are on one of my sites. I want to see for various timeframes, what the top-50 pages are. I'm going to create a data feed with this info which will be input to another app. I have Apache logs, and complete control of the machine to install what I want. I'm mostly wondering if there's something out there already that I can use, or if I have to implement it myself, what good algorithms or strategies might be. Thanks.

    Since IE8 is such a backward browser, I was wondering if there are any web-sites on the Internet that just don't support IE altogether (and block it via conditional comments, for instance)? I remember stumbling upon web-sites that block Firefox in the past (like ~2004). The justification of blocking IE is (obviously): You don't want to deal with IE bugs, and you don't want to have to maintain IE-specific hack and workarounds.

    I want Google search results to default with a publish date. I'm trying to change the Google search plugin, but I'd be just as happy using a 3rd-party tool that does this. So I'm using Firefox 15.0.1 and I've tried changing {install dir}/searchplugins/google.xml, but Firefox is just ignoring these changes.   • Make Google Chrome's minimise, restore and close buttons look like other programs?

    I like the way Google Chrome puts the tabs above the address bar, but I don't like the way the minimise, restore, close buttons are a different shape to every other program's. It means that if I sit the mouse in the top corner and minimise everything, I find that I've restored Chrome, not minimised it. Is there any way to get these buttons to a normal shape and size? That's Firefox in front, looking normal, like every other program, and Chrome above and behind, with the buttons at an off-standard position and size.

    I'm struggling geting my website to test fully positive in IE, the following problems keep arising, only in IE; My '#grey box' div displaying 200px to the left out of place, and it seems to move with the adjustment of the IE window size, does this in no other browsers, just IE. It creates this unnecessary horizontal scroll. I have the width set to pretty large, but have "overflow: hidden" and again, works fine across except for IE. On a few of my pages, the footer is somewhat cropped and out of place. CSS i have used is #header-wrapper { height:125px; padding: 0px; margin: 0; background: url("http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_lxBSX0YJV58/TOspWPI1r-I/AAAAAAAAA34/uw872WFS3ME/s1600/headerbg.jpg") top center no-repeat; background-size: 1120px 124px; } original width of an image is 990 px and i made it 1120px using property background-size: 1120px 124px; It looks okay in firefox 4 and Opera 11 but doesn't work in IE 7, Palemoon etc. image size does not increases and remains 990 px. You can check my blog HERE Any help...how can i make it compatible with all browsers ?

  • Disqus 2012 comments NOT being indexed by Google

    We run a high-traffic website at http://www.onedirection.net and we've been using Disqus throughout this year, initially to great effect. We accepted the upgrade to Disqus 2012 back in June, loving the increased user experience and the better community feel - albeit back to an Iframe again. However the fact we were specifically told that the comments are now being indexed by Google was great, and the dynamic nature of the iFrame suited our site (all our pages are cached, so by using Disqus the comments are updated straight away). However, it seems that the Disqus 2012 comments are not being indexed, and we've noticed an obvious fall in traffic over the last few months. Initially we didn't put this down to Disqus and focused on other issues (Google algorithm updates etc). But we're quickly coming down the reasoning that our pages now contain less indexable text, and we are getting less traffic because of this. We've tried emailing Disqus directly but they're very slow and don't seem keen to help. Any thoughts on this?
