    This may not be a Firefox / Ubuntu specific issue. When I Copy / Paste a web link with _ and ( ) it is rendered as %20, %28, and %29. Yet in the Firefox URL these % symbols do not appear.     My Acer Aspire V5-122P-61456G50NSS, model - MS2377, has crashed all together. It came preloaded with Windows 8 and I upgraded to windows 8.1 3-4 days before crash. Unfortunately I did not make any recovery media before the crash. While accessing the eRecovery on Acer store with my PC's serial no. it says nor RCD available for this. I tried recovery by loading recovery manager (Left Alt + F10) Various other advanced startup options (like holding shift key while turning on or pressing F8 key) returns nothing but no luck. However I am able to enter BIOS. After doing research on above condition on various PC forums, now my questions: I read that a 'Windows Recovery Drive' can be made on any PC running Windows 8 and could be used to repair another PC. Does anybody in SuperUser community have that (or a link to download the same from somewhere? as I'm unable to find anybody running windows 8 among my friends). I downloaded a window 8 Pro ISO and made a bootable USB. I was able to go to 'Repair Your Computer' option and after going to 'Reset your PC' option found that my recovery partition has gone/missing. I tried all options available but no luck. Then I tried to install with that Windows 8 Pro ISO but got message: "The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key". before this message I did not got any form to fill product key! Does this mean that the installer was picking up the key from BIOS (OEM Key)? and may be the installation did not succeeded because OEM Windows version was Window 8 and I was trying to install Windows 8 Pro. If that is the case then, could somebody please send me link to download an Windows 8 ISO? I am helpless and couldn't find anywhere on internet (without having to pay for a new key, but I should not pay as the installer will use OEM key).

    i have been googling much for answer but only someone with real experience can help here. my aim is to have 5 monitors connected to one computer in 2x2 full screen on all 4 monitors (video wall) with same resolution, 4xfullHD for example, plus one -5th monitor as controling. Ati have example picture of this configuration here. I have no gaming nor 3d needs here. Simple desktop applications plus video streams. So because graphic cards for this are expensive, i need to find out before buying pros and cons of 2 possible solutions (1) Ati Eyefinity capable card(s) ...and (2) Nvidia Quadro/NVS card(s) with mosaic and/or nvidia surround technology. For example i can find that current good cards for this can be: Ati's 7870 eyefinity6 card, link here pros: one card can handle all 5 displays, cons: active DP adapters needed (sometimes with aditional usb-powering complication) Nvidia Qudro NVS 450, link here Both cards have DisplayPorts as outputs (my targets are HDMI displays), but as far i saw information is that Eyefinity needs "active DP-DVI/hdmi adapters" for outputs and they are little expensive...? Does nvidia have this limitation (active adapters) ??? And final question, is Ati Eyefinity still better for this purpose than Nvidia-mosaic by someone's real experience there.

  • OpenSolaris / Nexenta problems with NetXen 4-port NIC card (ntxn driver)

    Hello, I'm running NexentaStor Enterprise on an HP ProLiant DL180 G6 server. The onboard NIC interfaces surface as igb0 and igb1 and work well. However, I've added an HP NC375T 4-port network card using the NetXen 3031 chipset. This card should be handled by the ntxn driver in the SUNWntxn package, but that results in "ntxn0: failed to map doorbell" messages upon boot. The network interfaces don't show up. After some research, I found HP's driver package for the card. The release notes for the driver package state: This version of the Driver is supported only on Oracle Solaris 10 5/09 & 10/09. Oracle Solaris 10 5/09 & 10/09 contain an older version of NetXen P3 driver package called SUNWntxn. So, adding another version of NetXen P3 driver package using pkgadd command might result in conflicts with the NetXen driver binary & related files. Users are advised to uninstall native SUNWntxn driver package before installing the new package.   • Can't get my OpenVpn client to connect

    Hi Guys, I am trying to setup a test vpn between my home desktop and my laptop. So far I have got the server on the desktop to connect fine but I can not get my laptop to finish the connection. I have tried several different configurations and they all give me the same result. Obviously it has nothing to do with my Client configuration but possibly something on my laptop? Here is the message I get in the log when it stops then times out and restarts.     I have a program for which I generate a .deb file. The .deb file works fine on the systems I have tried it on (also tested with lintian). Previously it has worked to use alien to convert this to .rpm and install it on Suse.     Greetings, I was wondering how one might link a Linux MIT Kerberos with a Windows 2003 Active Directory to achieve the following: A user, [email protected], attempts to log in at an Apache website, which runs on the same server as the Linux MIT Kerberos. The Apache module first asks the local Linux MIT Kerberos if he knows a user by that name or realm. The MIT Kerberos finds out it isn't responsible for that realm, and forwards the request to the Windows 2003 Active Directory. The Windows 2003 Active Directory replies positively and gives this information to the Linux MIT Kerberos, which in turn tells this to the Apache module, which grants the user access to its files. The documentation I have read concerning this issue often differ from this problem: Some discuss linking up a MIT Kerberos with an Active Directory to gain access to resources on the Active Directory server; While another uses the link to authenticate Windows users to the MIT Kerberos through the Windows 2003 Active Directory. (My problem is the other way around.) So what my question boils down to, is this: Is it possible to have a Linux MIT Kerberos server pass through requests for a Active Directory realm, and then have it receive the reply and give it to the requesting service? (Although it's not a problem if the requesting service and the Windows 2003 Active Directory communicate directly.) Suggestions and constructive criticism are greatly appreciated. :)

    Considering solid-state disk space is still an expensive resource, compressing large folders has appeal. Thanks to VirtualStore, could Program Files be a case where it might even improve performance? Discovery In particular I have been reading: SSD and NTFS Compression Speed Increase? Does NTFS compression slow SSD/flash performance? Will somebody benchmark whole disk compression (HD,SSD) please? (may have to scroll up) The first link is particularly dreamy, but maybe head a little too far in the clouds. The third link has this sexy semi-log graph (logarithmic scale!). Quote (with notes): Using highly compressable data (IOmeter), you get at most a 30x performance increase [for reads], and at least a 49x performance DECREASE [for writes]. Assuming I interpreted and clarified that sentence correctly, this single user's benchmark has me incredibly interested. Although write performance tanks wretchedly, read performance still soars. It gave me an idea. Idea: VirtualStore It so happens that thanks to sanity saving security features introduced in Windows Vista, write access to certain folders such as Program Files is virtualized for non-administrator processes. Which means, in normal (non-elevated) usage, a program or game's attempt to write data to its install location in Program Files (which is perhaps a poor location) is redirected to %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore, somewhere entirely different. Thus, to my understanding, writes to Program Files should primarily only occur when installing an application. This makes compressing it not only a huge source of space gain, but also a potential candidate for performance gain. Testing The beginning of this post has me a bit timid, it suggests benchmarking NTFS compression on a whole drive is difficult because turning it off "doesn't decompress the objects". However it seems to me the compact command is perfectly capable of doing so for both drives and individual folders. Could it be only marking them for decompression the next time the OS reads from them? I need to find the answer before I begin my own testing.
