    Hi If I have to choose between static method and creating an instance and use instance method, I will choose static methods always. but what is the detailed overhead of creating an instance? for example I saw a DAL which can be done with static classes but they choose to make it instance now in the BLL at every single call they call something like. new Customer().GetData(); how far this can be bad?   • Best practise - Accessing preferences globally

    User preferences for my app is store in NSUserDefaults. This includes a "theme" preference, which needs to be accessed frequently by multiple classes. I would prefer not to call "[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] objectForKey:..." repeatedly as it makes for inconcise code and I assume will incur overhead. What is the preferred and most concise method for accessing preferences in any class?

  • Listing an application's activity and intent-filters?

    I am interested in activating another application's activity. I know from reading the Android SDK that it's probably better to do this with an implicit intent. However, this activity doesn't reside in an application I own, so I don't know the action and category and data flags on the intent-filter. How can I examine an Android applications metadata like the activity classes and the intent-filters for those activities (if declared in the manifest)? Thanks!

    I need to test a class library project in VS. This project, itself, does not have a web.config file, but the classes do on the web server to which it's deployed. I access these like this: ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["stringname"].ConnectionString; Can I adjust these strings while running unit tests in VS? Should I have considered a different design method to avoid this problem?

    I created a Windows Forms Application to which I added a DataGridView and LINQ to SQL Classes from one of my databases. I can successfully bind one of my database's tables to my DataGridView: var dataSource = from c in _db.NetworkedEquipments select c; dataGridView1.DataSource = dataSource; However, the foreign keys get duplicated, that is, the columns appear twice. How can I prevent this?

    Hi, I am a mobile web developer and trying to monetize my traffic with mobile ad services and i have a problem. First of all to get most of out of your ads you usually need to do server side request to advert company's servers and there are quite few ad services. Problem starts when you want to use them in one site. All have different approaches to server side calls and trying to maintain and implement those ad codes becomes pain after a while. So I decided to write a class system where i can simply create methods for every company and upload it to my site. So far i have public Advert class public AdPublisher class with GetAd method that returns an Advert public Adservice class that has Service names as enum I also have converted server request codes of all ad services i use to classes. It works ok but I want to be able to create an ad service class upload it so that asp.net app can import/recognize it automatically like a plugin system. As I am new to .net I have no idea where to start or how to do it.     I'm trying to find a version of UDP which just alleviates the restriction of a maximum size of the message sent. I don't care about reliability or partial retransmission, if all chunks arrive I want the message to be assembled from the chunks in sending order and delivered to the listening app. If one or more chunks are missing I would just like to discard the message. The goal is to have a low-latency notification mechanism about real time data, but with the added support for bigger messages than what would fit in an IP datagram. I would like the protocol to be one way only, and not have long connection setup times. An optional feature to be able to respond to a received message wouldn't hurt (a concept of an unreliable connection), but is not necessary.

    I want to view events over specific time range for a specific calendar, but am having trouble using the API, It is a generic API, and it reminds me of using the DOM. The problem is that it seems difficult to work with because much of the information is in generic base classes. How do I get the events for a calendar using Groovy or Java?
