  • Suggestions for a SOHO/Home Asterisk system

    I would like to buy a small embedded system that runs Linux and Asterisk. I would like two FXS ports ( to plug analogue phones into ) and one FXO port ( to plug in to my real line to allow access to the POTS ). I would like it to have a USB port to hold storage for voicemail. I really want it for home use so I would like it to be under £150 ( say $250 ), given that you can buy ADSL routers for around this much can any of them be made to run Linux and Asterisk? I don't want a PC as the power usage would be too high. I am looking for something like this ASDL router but open and able to run Asterisk or another open PBX. At worst I would like a box which had one FXO and two FXS and just made them completely available over IP to a full Asterisk system on a low power Atom system.

  • Using physical disk with VMware Workstation

    I am using VMware Workstation 9.0 under Windows 7 and trying to load my Linux from Physicaldisk0. And it boots, grub sees the two partitions on the disk (I checked in command line) and the kernel and the initrd loads and then it stops saying "device not found"and drops me into an emergency shell. Indeed there is absolutely nothing in /dev not the /sda device it expects not /hda nothing that looks like a disk. Edit: I can boot the Linux disk just fine if I boot it from BIOS and not as a VM. Edit2: The question is, how can I make this setup work?

  • Experiences with Google TiSP?

    i got an email from google a couple of hours ago (around 12AM EST today) that Google's TiSP service is now available in my area. this seems like a great deal compared to my cUrrent 16Mbps cable coNction at work, however i'm a lIttle nervous about the fact that linux support is "Coming soon". i was wOndering if anyone had successfully installed this system and gotten it woRking with their linux infrastructure? I'm assuming that there shouldn't be any issues siNce we have an ASA in front of our internet. TiSP Shouldn't care what is behind that. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

  • Capture RTSP stream from IP Camera and store

    I've got a few IP Cameras which output an RTSP (h264 mpeg4) stream. Hitting the URL locally via VLC: rtsp://192.168.0.21:554/mpeg4 I can stream the camera and dump to disk (on my desktop). I'd like to however store these files on my NAS (FreeNAS). I was looking at ways to capture the RTSP stream and dump them to disk but I'm unable to find anything. Is it possible to capture the stream on FreeBSD or Linux (RaspberryPi) and dump the streamed content to a disk local to Linux or FreeBSD - preferably every 30minutes? EDIT: The NAS is headless (HP N55L or something) and the RaspberryPi's are headless too. I've already looked into ZoneMinder but need something small. I was hoping maybe using Motion to detect motion on the stream but that will come later.

    When I start Ubuntu from the grub, I get a strange message, and a medieval prompt as: No init found Busybox v1.15.3(ubuntu 1.1.15 3-ubuntu5) built in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of commands (initramfs)_ I use a dualboot system, with Ubuntu Meerkat, and Windows 7. Is there any chance of recovery? Thanks. EDIT: The PC on a whim decide to boot itself up, and so I couldnt try the solution mentioned below. I will accept the answer anyway.

    I am running a Debian virtual server with Apache, PHP, MySQL. There is just 1 website with very low traffic running but the server very often (almost everyday) freezes and does not respond. When this happens the server is unreachable from web browser or by SSH and I have to go to administration of my provider and perform server hard reset after this the server seems to work fine.   • Samba Server needs to have AD authentication

    My Linux server is connected to AD via Bind DN and password (without domain joining). It is using sssd for authentication. I am able to ssh and login without any issue. I have a proper setup of uid and guid, etc. .. There is no issue with logging to the linux server. I want the samba service to use AD accounts, but I can't find documentation for how to configure it in this case. Can anyone explain how to configure samba to use active directory for authentication on a system using sssd?

    I am starting to think I simply need to accept a small loss and sell my new ASUS K73E. Because I really don't enjoy computing when I have to deal with Windough$ and this windows 7 64 bit on my new ASUS is even worse than the old machines with XP. I have written to ASUS and they simply say "We don't support Linux" and while Ralink's website says they do support Linux I can't get anyone to tell me what model Ralink card might be in my machine. Is anyone out there who might be able to give me some useful advice????   • Setting up NIS/NFS on Mac OS 10.6

    We have an Ubuntu NIS/NFS server at work and we recently got a few new iMacs. Is there a way to set them up so they can use the linux user accounts and mount the shared nfs files? Are there any guides on how to do this? I've been googling with no success. I tried getting NFS to work by connecting to the server via the Disk Utility but after I run 'sudo automount' from the command line and ls the directory I tried to mount it to (Volumes/nfs) it gives a permissions error. If there isn't a way to do this, anyone know of any not to complicated ways to share user accounts and files between mac and linux computers (and even hypothetically a windows computer one day?) I know its kind a of huge question, but I'll greatly appreciate any advice on the topic. Thanks!

    I'm running Ubuntu from USB media, which has a drive capacity of 250 GB, all existing as one FAT32 partition. However, when I created the bootable Ubuntu drive, only 4.79 GB were allocated for usage. Rather than put files directly into the /cdrom where the drive is mounted, I want to expand what is listed here in aufs to be at least 200 GB. I'm hopeful that I can do this live.     I'm trying to test a network device (firewall) using a Linux box, with two network cards, one interface connected to the WAN zone and another interface to LAN zone. The configuration is similar with that |ETH0| <-> | FW | <-> ETH1 So from both interfaces I'm able to ping the respective firewall interface. But i'm not able to fire something like: ping -I eth0 ip.from.eth1 and to get any answer. Is that possible or should the linux network namespace solution or user level tcp stacks (VMs are out of question)

    Is there a way that I can use my Linux ext4 file system, as such and then use it on some other computer. I have a dual-boot of Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 and my partition table looks like this: My question might not be clear, so explaining it with an example. Can I copy my Linux partition on a flash drive and then use it on a different PC, with or without any need to install Ubuntu on new PC, by simply booting from the copied ext4 partition. This way, I can easily port my Ubuntu packages and other applications, settings etc. from one PC to other. If it's a very stupid question, please don't mind.

  • My KDE very slow in certain operations

    I have a problem with my Linux installation. It seems that the KDE code that deals with directory windows is extremely slow (on both Dolphin and Konqueror). This happens both when I click on a directory icon and when I want to open/save a file from many KDE applications. The time the window takes to open can be one minute or more. The same happens when I right click on an icon. Looking at the CPU usage, this is very low (less than 10%). Am I the only one with this problem, or is it well known and maybe already fixed? Consider that I cannot update to a more recent version of OpenSuse.   • Run python script on server over ssh session in the background persistantly

    I got an account from my professor for our universities CUDA server for running some tests. I am connecting via ssh over terminal. The thing is, as I close the terminal the server also seems to kill the running script. As I reconnect it has stopped. No it is not possible that the script already terminated since those test runs should take a few hours even on those machine.. Can anybody help me here? OS: Linux cuda01 3.13-1-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.13.7-1 (2014-03-25) x86_64 GNU/Linux

    Today i deleted my home directory (in wrong action) with: sudo rm -rf * And when i use extundelete i get this message: root@ubuntu:~# sudo extundelete --restore-directory /home/hamed/ /dev/sda2WARNING: Extended attributes are not restored. Searching for recoverable inodes in directory /home/hamed/ ... 498 recoverable inodes found. Looking through the directory structure for deleted files ... 498 recoverable inodes still lost. No files were undeleted. why it can't recover? Anyone can help me to return my Desktop, Documents and etc? I have ubuntu 14.04.
