  here is some sample javascript: SomeObjectType = function() { } SomeObjectType.prototype = { field1: null, field2: null } SomeOtherObject = function() { } SomeOtherObject.prototype = { doSomething: function(val) { /// <param name="val" type="SomeObjectType"></param> var val2 = new SomeObjectType(); //val2. shows intellisense correctly //val1. does NOT } } Shouldn't visual studio be giving me intellisence when i do "val." inside the "doSomething" function? I would expect it to give me field1 and field2 as options, but it doesn't. I DO get field1 and field2 if I type "val2." so intellisence works when I create a new object of the same type that I specify in the param comment. Any ideas what I am doing wrong or is this just not supported?

• Where can I find the project templates for ASP.NET MVC 1.0?

  I would like to edit the ASP.NET MVC templates for Visual Studio so that any new action or controller created has a specific piece of code within it by default. For instance, I'd like to replace the generated: public ActionResult MyAction() { return View(); } with a specific coding standard we prefer to use within in my team. eg: public ActionResult About() { try { DoStuff(); return View(); } catch(Exception) { HandleException(); } } I've looked through the filesystem, but I cannot find anything specific that relates to the ASP.NET mvc templates. Anyone know where they are?

• How can I clone a .NET solution?

  Starting new .NET projects always involves a bit of work. You have to create the solution, add projects for different tiers (Domain, DAL, Web, Test), set up references, solution structure, copy javascript files, css templates and master pages etc etc. What I'd like is an easy way of cloning any given solution. If you use copy/paste, the problem is that you need to then go through renaming namespaces, assembly names, solution names, GUIDs etc. Is there a way of automating this? Something like this would be great: solutionclone.exe --solution=c:\code\abc\template.sln --to=c:\code\xyz --newname=MySolution I'm aware that Visual Studio has project templates, but I've not seen solution templates. Ideas welcome, thanks in advance folks!

  I am trying to identify a method for obtaining nearby wifi access points using C in Windows. I am coding in Visual Studio 2010. I have read the necessary documentation but am lacking in guidance on how to implement code that would accomplish this. I am specifically interested in obtaining the MAC address of nearby access points or at a minimum the MAC address of the currently connected Wifi access point. Is it possible to do this using WMI in Windows, specifically on Windows XP SP3 and later? Any pointers on how to do this are greatly appreciated.

  So I have two projects, A and B, where B is dependent on A (A is a library, while B is a console application). A uses the boost library, and has been configured to include the header and library files, but B has not. Visual studio throws an error saying the Boost Header files cannot be found (in project B). For example: error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'boost/asio.hpp': No Such file or directory [Project: B] My question is: Is there a way such that B does not have to include the Boost library as well?

The only solution I found until now was to set $IPT -P INPUT ACCEPT and $IPT -I INPUT -i eth0 -j ACCEPT, but this configuration does not protect me of any attack, which is a great shame for a firewall. I suspect that the error comes from my script and not from iptables, but I don't understand what's wrong with my script. Could some do-gooder explain me my error, please? I continue researches in this way but, meanwhile, if somebody sees my anti SYN flood rule error...

• Anyone love/hate the PowerConnect line of switches from Dell?

  I am looking at replacing some unmanaged 16 port store bought GB switches and wanted to go with Cisco but it may be cost prohibitive. Instead I am looking at ProCurve or Dell's PowerConnect line up. I am looking for SNMP, Management, VLANs, and SFLOW would icing on the switch cupcake. I would get the 6224 or the 6248 and then maybe add the RPS-600 to it for redundant power. I think the RPS-600 supports multiple switches. Rackspace is also a little challenge so I am trying to do it with as little Rack Units as possible. Ideally I would go with two 6224's or a single 6248 and then do two VLANs. Thanks for any feedback.   Hello, I have a Dell R300 Ubuntu 9.10 box with 4GB of memory. All I'm running on there is haproxy, nagios and postfix yet there is ~2.7GB of memory being consumed. I've run ps and I can't get the sums to add up. Could anyone shed any light on where all the memory is being used?   I'm writing a logging class that uses a templatized operator<< function. I'm specializing the template function on wide-character string so that I can do some wide-to-narrow translation before writing the log message. I can't get TCHAR to work properly - it doesn't use the specialization. Ideas? I'm not sure if it's pertinent or not, but this is on a Windows CE 5.0 device.

  I have an API in NETMF C# that I am writing that includes a function to send an HTTP request. For those who are familiar with NETMF, this is a heavily modified version of the "webClient" example, which a simple application that demonstrates how to submit an HTTP request, and recive a response. In the sample, it simply prints the response and returns void,. In my version, however, I need it to return the HTTP response. For some reason, Visual Studio reports that not all code paths return a value, even though, as far as I can tell, they do. • Unable to determine the URL to the Xap file

  I started developing a Silverlight (SL) 4 application hosted in an ASP.NET site using Visual Studio 2010. Now I want to change it so that the SL application runs out of browser as if I had not chosen to host it in a web site when I created the SL project. First, I went to the properties of the web application and removed the SL project from the “Silverlight Applications” tab. Then, I went to the properties of the SL project and made sure the “Out-of-browser Application” option was chosen on the “Debug” tab with the SL project selected in the drop list. Finally, I made sure that the SL project was set as the “StartUp” project for the solution. The solution builds successfully however when I try to run I get the following message in an error dialog: Unable to determine the URL to the Xap file from web [web project name]. I'm assuming this is happening because the SL project is trying to copy the Xap file to the ClientBin folder of the web site. Obviously, the SL and web projects are still linked in some way despite my attempt to unlink the two. I have examined each project file in notepad to find any reference between them with no luck. What’s more frustrating is that I can achieve my desired result by creating a new SL application and un-checking the “Host the Silverlight application in a new or existing Web site in the solution” option. I know I could start my project over from scratch to solve this problem however I’m really curious as to what is causing this error. A Google search yielded no results.

How on earth could I work out what is going wrong here? The datepicker looks so much better but for the effort this looks like it might be to fix I may be incline to switch for a textbox which I validate when the submit button is pressed! • WPF application with MS Access database as a data source

  I have a Microsoft Access 2010 database. Now, using Visual Studio 2010, I want to create a WPF application and add the database as a data source. The app will have a window with a frame that provides navigation through pages. No problem so far. But: -What is the right way to set up the database in this scenario? Tables only? Or must everything go via queries? (VS2010 talks about views which I assume (?) are queries) -Database data must be updatable and records can be added. Some relationships go through link tables (many-to-many) and there are nullable foreign key relationships. Must I take manual steps to make it work? -While adding the data source VS2010 created an xsd from my Access database. I think the xsd might need further tweaking for the application to work the right way. What if I change my Access database design, I'd have to regenerate the xsd again as well. Is this right, and is it the way it is usually done? OR, should I let the original Access database go and give the application the capability to create new empty databases? -How do you provide controls in a page to step through the records in a table? Is there a special database control? -What is the way (WPF class?) to load records into the data context that displays in a page? (At this level it probably does not matter what type of data source it is.)

  I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Pro against Team Server 2010 and I had my project opened (apparently) as a solution from the repo, but I should've opened it as "web site". I found this out during compile, so I went to shelve my new changes and deleted the project from my local disk, then opened the project again from source (this time as web site) and now I can't unshelve my files. Is there any way to work around this? Did I blow something up? Do I need to do maintenance at the server? I found this question on SO #2332685 but I don't know what cache files he's talking about (I'm on XP :\ ) EDIT: Found this link after posting the question, sorry for the delay in researching, still didn't fix my problem Of course I can't find an error code for TF203015 anywhere, so no resolution either (hence my inclusion of the number in the title, yeah?) EDIT: I should probably mention that these files were never checked in in the first place. Does that matter? Can you shelve an unchecked item? Is that what I did wrong? EDIT: WHAP - FOUND IT!!! Use "Undo" on the items that don't exist because they show up in pending changes as checkins.

• Blend "Window is not supported in a WPF Project"

  I am having a frustrating time with Blend reporting "Window is not supported in a Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) project." due to unbuildable configurations but can't quite work out how to mangle my way out of it. I've worked out it is probably due to my trying to have a single solution with x86 and x64 configurations. There is no way to tell Blend 2 which is the active Solution Configuration and active Solution Platform. I think it's a bit of a weakness in the configuration system, or maybe the way I've set things up, but I have Debug64 and Debug solution configurations one of each is used with the platform x86 and x64. I also think it's a simple sorting problem - x64 comes before x86 and Debug comes before Debug64 so Blend ends up with an unbuildable config of Debug with x64. When I choose the combination of Debug and x64 in VS, its XAML editor can't load either. The solution is a moderately complex one - there's a pure Win32 DLL, C++/CLI Model project and two other WPF assemblies used by the main WPF project. UPDATE I have ripped all the x64 config out of my solution and rebuilt everything with no effect. I then uninstalled Blend 2 and installed Blend 3 - it doesn't like things either. • VS2010 Ultimate - Unable to launch ASP.NET Development Server

  I've worked with ASP.NET once before and had a project where it was potentially useful, so I started creating an ASP.NET website as part of a solution that contained several C# class libraries. I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Edition and Windows 7 Professional x64. The issue is that when I try to debug my website project, I get the following error message: Unable to launch the ASP.NET Development Server There's no other information (it seems a popular variant is the "port in use" error). Interestingly, I can run single pages on the application by right-clicking on the ASPX and selecting "View in Browser". This does not allow me to debug into my breakpoints, though. I have no clue what the problem could be. I'm running VS2010 in Administrator mode. One of the questions that popped up here suggested I uncomment the "127.0.0.1 localhost" line from my HOSTS file, which I did, and restarted VS with no luck. I also tried both setting a static port for the web server to run on as well as let it dynamically generate one. Both do not help the situation. Any help? Thanks.

• ssh tunneling with visualsvn

  I have been asked to setup visualsvn for visual studio 2008 Due to firewall restrictions and server configuration. I need to use ssh tunneling. My problem is this. The local machine needs to connect to a gateway machine via ssh then connect to the subversion server so Local machine ---{ssh}--- gateway ---{ssh}-- subversion server I am not exactly sure of the correct process to do this. It appears that I must start a ssh process using plink to open a local port and forward that to the remote subversion server. eg: plink user@gateway -L 22:192.168.1.1:22 Then when visualsvn starts it uses tortoiseplink to make the actual connection through to the subversion server using svn+ssh://username@localhost:22/myrepo This seems very very clunky. firstly it needs several steps to setup the connection secondly I need plink running which leaves a command prompt on the desktop (clutter = yuck) lastly I need to use two different programs that do the same thing. (plink + tortoiseplink) The problem is that tortoiseplink doesn't run in the background. As soon as I connect to the ssh gateway and enter the password it closes again. So I can't use it to create the initial connection. If I use plink instead of tortoiseplink in visualsvn then I never get prompted for the password. so it just hangs with an open command prompt and no password request. Is there a way to setup visualsvn so that everything happens in one command line? I have searched high and low for a suitable and clean method to tunnel from visualsvn to the remote server and have found very little. it all either assumes one hop (not two like mine) or it glosses over all the hard bits. • ScriptSharp ClockLabel example with 0.6.2

  Hi folks, I'm developing in Visual Studio 2010 and I've just downloaded and installed Script# 0.6.2 for VS 2010. I'm trying to follow the clock example in the Read Me pdf but can't get it to compile. I've created a new Script# Class Library project inside my solution called Clock, renamed the .cs file to ClockBehaviour and added the following code as per the example: using System; using System.DHTML; using ScriptFX; using ScriptFX.UI; namespace Clock { public class ClockBehavior : Behavior { private int _intervalCookie; public ClockBehavior(DOMElement domElement, string id) : base(domElement, id) { _intervalCookie = Window.SetInterval(OnTimer, 1000); } public override void Dispose() { if (_intervalCookie != 0) { Window.ClearInterval(_intervalCookie); } base.Dispose(); } private void OnTimer() { DateTime dateTime = new DateTime(); DOMElement.InnerHTML = dateTime.Format("T"); } } } When I try and compile the project I get errors saying that the System.DHMTL, ScriptFX and ScriptFX.UI namespaces could not be found (and some others, but I guess by fixing these errors the others will fall out). It feels like I'm not referencing the correct projects/dlls. In the References for the project I have mscorlib and Script.Web. I've tried using the object browser find the classes (such as Behavior) in other namespaces but with no luck. I've added all of the .dlls from the ScriptSharp folder in Program Files but the namespaces still can't be found. Any help would be very much appreciated, Thanks, Hugh

• Using a Visual Sourcesafe 2005 database with VB6 still launches VSS 6.0d

  I know all versions of VSS have many horror stories and I feel I will escape to a better source control mechanism someday but in the short term I am just trying to do a little cleanup and would like your advice on this issue: Objective - consolidate old VB6 source code in a "new" VSS 2005 database (currently all these old projects are checked in to an "old" VSS 6.0d database); eventually, eliminate the "old" VSS. Progress so far - The new VSS 2005 database now contains a mixture of projects. Some are using Visual Studio 2008, some use Vstudio 2005, and the more recently added ones are the above mentioned VB6 projects. Individually all these projects and "solutions" come up OK, I can check in - check out, launch SourceSafe, view differences, etc. But all the VB6 projects now in a VSS 2005 database launch VSS 6.0d when asked, rather than VSS 2005. Is this normal and just something to cope with until I get to some better nonVSS approach? Or can VB6 be re-configured someway to launch VSS 2005 when I click Tools-SourceSafe-Run SourceSafe? I seem to recall VSS 6.0d got "integrated" into VB6 by way of the "Add-In Manager". At this point, the development PC with VB6 installed has both VSS 2005 and VSS 6.0d clients installed.
