• BOOTMGR is compressed

  So I've just finished messing up my computer beyond repair. I originally had a Windows 7 install on my 64GB SSD and all my data on my 1.5TB HDD. So I decided to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview. I tried to clone my 64GB SSD onto my HDD; but that didn't work either at first. I later learned that it wiped all my data off of it. Thank goodness for the cloud. So I retried the cloning after I realized that my data was gone, and I finished it. So I rebooted and got a cryptic error message: BOOTMGR is compressed. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. So I did. Several times. I followed the instructions to rebuild the bootmanager from many websites, including HowToGeek, smallvoid.com, and more. None worked. BTW, I've lost my Windows 7 Professional DVDs. All I have is my Windows 7 Home Premium DVD. It's the one I got with my laptop. How can I get back to a working computer? I'm willing to wipe anything, as my data is all in the cloud.

• How to deal with DELL support system?

  We have purchased a Dell Optiplex 9010 SSFV for our organization's work. Since the first installation two of the USB keyboard keys were not working properly. I had to press those keys two times simultaneously, on first time keys did not work and for for second time it printed two characters (as it were buffering first character.) Two keys that were not working properly: Hexangrave (Below the ESC key: `) Double Quotes (Left the enter key ") We registered our complaint with DELL and they suggested (with some hard to understand and weird ENGLISH accent) some test and tricks, such as switching to different ports, checking keyboard on different PC, and it worked well with diff. PC(with Windows 7 Home Premium installed). It was clear that it is an OS fault, hence they suggested to re-install OS. Problem began here, we have a project on the run and currently a video editing project setup on our system, so can't re-install system in hurry and also DELL persons were not providing any other solution such as updating keyboard driver, etc. Arguments I am a Software Engg. and don't think it is a feasible solution to re-install entire system for simple problems. This prob is coming since the fresh system installation, so I don't think it will solve the problem. Finally, I had to find solution myself and got it here, now I want to show my disappointment to dell persons or at least tell them that they should improve there support system to not advice to re-install entire system for that simple problems. Notes We have purchased 5 years NEXT business day support from DELL for around 8000 INR (Not for that kind of solutions from DELL). It is Dell India Support System. So can anyone tell me how to tackle dell support system officially, so that they will pay more attention in near future. Thanks

• How to publish an ASP.NET MVC website

  Hello -- I've a site that I'd like to publish to a co-located live server. I'm finding this simple task quite hard. My problems begin with the Web Deploy tool (1.1) giving me a 401 Unauthorized as the adminstrator because port :8172 comes up in the errors and this port is blocked - but the documentation says "The default ListenURL is http://+:80/MsDeployAgentService"! I'm loathe to open another port and I've little patience these days so I thought bu66er it, I'll create a Web Deploy package and import it into IIS on the server over RDP. I notice first that Visual Studio doesn't use a dialog box to gather settings, or use my Publish profiles but seems to use a tab in the project properties, although I think these are ignored when importing the package anyway? I'm now sitting in the import wizard with Application Path and Connection String. I've cleared the conn string as I think this is for some ASP stuff I don't use but when I enter nothing in the Application Path, the wizard barks at me saying that basically I'm a weirdo because most people publish to folders beneath the root site. Now, I want my site to be site.com/Home/About and not site.com/subfolder/Home/About and I think being an MVC routed site that a subfolder will introduce other headaches. Should I go ahead and use the root? Finally, I also want to publish a web service to www.site.com/services/soap which I think IIS can handle. While typing this question, Amazon have delivered my IIS 7 Resource Kit, and I've been scouring the internet but actually I'm getting more confused. Only really ever show a percentage remaining number as pictured. The windows help documentation on the "battery meter" seems to indicate that it should display a time remaining indicator, is this accurate? How accurate is the battery meter? The accuracy of what the battery meter reports—what percentage of a full charge remains and how long you can use your laptop before you must plug it in—depends on several factors. Most of these factors fall into the following two categories: What you use the laptop for. Because some activities drain the battery faster than others (for example, watching a DVD consumes more power than reading and writing e-mail), alternating between activities that have significantly different power requirements changes the rate at which your laptop uses battery power. This can vary the estimate of how much battery charge remains. Battery hardware and sensor circuitry. Newer, "smart" batteries are equipped with circuitry that calculates the measurements of charge remaining and reports the information to the battery meter. • Installer not being updated ( probably because of Windows 7 file cache )

  I'm creating an installer for my Visual FoxPro application using ISTool and Inno Setup. It is ok for me for the first time. But, I updated my code and re-built the EXE file. Then, compiled the installer again. I found that my update was not compiled into the installer and I did not see the update in my running application. I noticed that the EXE file, which was built by VFP, was updated properly. It seems the installation script did not output the updated file. But, when I changed folder names, it did work. I don't want to change folder names whenever I run that installation script. It is not a good idea actually. I think it is because of Windows 7 cache system. Mine is Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1. For example, My previous output file is located at C:\path\to\myinstaller.exe When I compile the installation script, the output file there should be overwritten, but it was not as expected. Although I deleted the file, it did not work. When I changed to output file path as C:\newpath\to\myinstaller.exe, I got the fix, but it is not a solution what I'm looking for. Does anyone how to do that? [Edit] I found that the installed directory was not updated properly. For example, I installed the program to C:\Program files\MyInstalledApp When I run the installer again, that installation directory should be overwritten, but failed. Thus, I got to uninstall the app before I re-install it. Is there any fix for this?

  Hello, I have a website which has many pages: For example: HOME: http://mywebsite.com/index.html SOME PAGE: http://mywebsite.com/categorie/somepage.html I decided to make my pages load dynamically with AJAX without reloading the page. So I decided to use jQuery Address plugin ( http://www.asual.com/jquery/address/docs/ ) in order to allow deeplinking and Back-Forward navigation: <script type="text/javascript" src="uploads/scripts/jquery.address-1.2rc.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $('a').address(function() { return $(this).attr('href').replace(/^#/, ''); }); </script> Now, after installing the plugin, if I go on http://mywebsite.com/index.html (HOME) and click on SOME PAGE link, jquery successfully loads the http://mywebsite.com/categorie/somepage.html without reloading the page and the address bar on my browser displays: http://mywebsite.com/index.html/#/categorie/somepage.html which is great! However, the problem is: if I copy this dynamically generated URL: http://mywebsite.com/index.html/#/categorie/somepage.html into a web browser address bar, it will take into my website index.html page and not to the "SOME PAGE" page. Also, The Forward/Back buttons don't work correctly, they only replace the address in the URL bar but the content stays the same. I suppose that I need to write some JavaScript rule that associates the dynamic URL with the correct page? Some help would be appreciated. Thanks :)

  I'm running some tests using Robotium on an Android application that interacts with a web-portal. I'd like to save some information to file; for example I need to save the id of the username I created from the app and I want to make it read from Selenium to run tests on web-portal to verify a webpage for that user has been created. Is it possible? Could someone suggest me a solution or a work-around? • Toshiba Qosmio: Battery Stuck at 60%, does not Charges, PC can't power up, can't remain on with out

  Just like the tittle says, now let me try to give some more detail about the symptoms; The battery is stuck at 60 percent (68% at the moment of this writing).When hovering over the battery icon in Windows 7 Home Premium x64 it reads:"68% available (plugged in, charging)", there's no x or any sing the OS is displaying any error. No matter how much time left connected to the AC adapter the battery doesn't charge, it seems however it continues to discharge at its normal rate when disconnected from the laptop (about 1% each 2 weeks). Now this last symptom is the one i find most strange it "seems" the laptop somehow isn't recognizing the battery because even with the remaining charge of 60%(ish) the laptop wont power up or remain on if disconnected from its AC adapter(if it's on and is unplugged it will immediately turn off). Meaning that even with the battery attached correctly in its right place is as if running the laptop with no battery at all. Toshiba's Utilities haven't detected anything strange (or anything for that matter) with the battery or the hardware. The laptop when in use is connected 90% of the time to a Belkin surge protector (like my 1TB EHD). The protector is working correctly (green light on) and the 1TB HD too, thus a power surge having damaged it's very unlikely. Thnx in advance

• Dell Studio 17 - turning off suddenly

  I have a Dell Studio 17 laptop, a refurbished model almost 2 years old...It is currently running Windows 7 32-bit, Home Premium. Via a clean install, it is a Vista upgrade machine...A while back, a problem started to develop while running Vista that it would suddenly just turn off. No warnings, messages, anything. It was like I had the battery out, then just unplugged it from the wall. Just like that. Over several months of this happening (or more), I've observed several things...First, it only seems to happen when I'm doing memory-intensive things, such as watching a online video full screen or running many applications in the background...Second, I can tell when it is about to "flip" as I've termed it, when the fan starts running...the computer gets really hot in places... Anyways, I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem, because it still exists, even after a Vista-to-7 Upgrade...Is this true? Hardware vs. software? Is there anything I can do to fix this? Is it just a specific component or what? What do you recommend? Thanks!!

• Browsers hang when loading web pages

  HP Laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2. Problem affects IE8 and Firefox. When attempting to browse most web sites, browser loads web site title in browser's title bar, then displays "Waiting for site url" and never completes loading the page. Able to connect to www.google.com with no problems. Unable to connect to www.carbonwy.com, www.wsj.com, www.cnn.com, www.microsoft.com, etc. Other PCs on same subnet are all able to connect to these sites without any problem. nslookup resolves all of these sites without any problem, so DNS does not appear to be the problem. Windows Firewall is disabled. Norton 360 was previously installed but has been uninstalled. No other firewall software is installed. IE8 Protected Mode is off. IE8 advanced settings have been reset. IE8 user settings have been reset. After reset, IE8 tries to connect to http://hp-laptop.aol.com and go.microsoft.com but same symptoms persist. Title bar loads, then nothing. System has been restarted numerous times. Running out of ideas. Please help!

• After Filter redirects to login.jsp, proper servlet doesnt get called

  My simple project structure is shown in this link. I am using Eclipse and Tomcat 6. There is login.jsp which submits its form to login_servlet. The login_servlet sets a session variable and then redirects to home.jsp. The home.jsp file has links to the 4 JSP files under a directory called /sam. In web.xml I have given the url-pattern as /sam/* for the LogFiler filter. The LogFilter just reads the session variable and does doChain(request,resposne) if valid, else it redirects to /login.jsp. RequestDispatcher rd = request.getRequestDispatcher("/login.jsp"); rd.forward(request,response); Basically I don't want anyone to access files inside /sam directory directly. Now let's say, I try to directly access a file inside /sam directory, the filter kicks in and the redirection to login.jsp works and even the broswers contents are that of login.jsp, but the url in the browser doesn't change. When I enter details and press submit, instead of sending the data to login_servlet, it sends it to sam/login_servlet and then tomcat tells me there is no such servlet here! Obviously there isn't. My doubt is why is it sending it so sam/login_servlet instead of /login_servlet which is usually what it does when I start running the login.jsp on my own. One more thing, is there a way I can apply the servlet to ONLY .jsp files inside /sam diectory? I tried giving the url-pattern like /sam/*.jsp, but Tomcat was refusing to accept that url-pattern.

  Hi I have a reasonably advanced (many patches and subpatches) quartz composition that was created in Snow Leopard but doesn't run well (many elements are not rendered) in Leopard. The composition tested OK via Quartz Composer's Test in Runtime option and works fine for both Leopard 32-bits and Leopard 64-bits (menu item "File | Test in Runtime | Leopard 32-bits". In an actual Leopard (32-bits) system, a lot of elements are not rendered in the quartz composition. Below are the log file excerpt when the composition is run in QuickTime Player under Leopard: QuickTime Player[134] *** <QCNodeManager | namespace = "com.apple.QuartzComposer" | 335 nodes>: Patch with name "/units to pixels" is missing QuickTime Player[134] *** Message from <QCPatch = 0x06D82880 "(null)">:Cannot create node of class "/units to pixels" and identifier "(null)" QuickTime Player[134] *** Message from <QCPatch = 0x06D7C130 "(null)">:Cannot create node of class "/resize image to target" and identifier "(null)" QuickTime Player[134] *** Message from <QCPatch = 0x06D7C130 "(null)">:Cannot create connection from ["outputValue" @ "Math_1"] to ["Target_Pixels" @ "Patch_2"] The patch "units to pixels" is a system patch in Snow Leopard whereas the patch "resize image to target" is a custom virtual patch located in my home directory. It seems that we can cross out problems in which the composition is referencing a missing virtual patch. I have tested the composition under another user's account and it ran fine which shows that it already embeds the "resize image to target" virtual patch that is located in my home directory. I'm really puzzled why the composition passes the Leopard Runtime test but yet fail to run in an actual Leopard OS? Is there a post-processing step that I need to run to the composition file? Is there any way to make this patch more compatible with Leopard? Thanks in advance.

The first time I press it it starts the Toggle activity and completes it fine, but it also opens up the TimeClock activity on the screen. If I then hit the back button I go back to the home. I can now press this shortcut and it will start the Toggle activity and not change the screen. Before I added: shortcutIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP); It would open up the TimeClock activity every time. Now it is just the first time. But I want it to never show anything on the screen when the Toggle shortcut is pressed. Does anyone have any idea of how to get rid of that?

• Boto - How to delete a record set from route53 -Tried to delete resource record set but it was not found

  I am using the following to delete route53 records. I get no error messages. conn = Route53Connection(aws_access_key_id, aws_secret_access_key) changes = ResourceRecordSets(conn, zone_id) change = changes.add_change("DELETE",sub_domain, "A", 60,weight=weight,identifier=identifier) change.add_value(ip_old) changes.commit() all required fields are present and they match..weight, identifier, ttl=60 etc.\ e.g. test.com. A 111.111.111.111 60 1 id1 test.com. A 111.111.111.222 60 1 id2 I want to delete 111.111.111.222 and the record set. So, what is the proper way to delete a record set? For a record set, I will have multiple values that are distinguished by a unique identifier. When an ip address becomes in active I want to remove from route53. I am using a a poor mans load balancing. • popup with dynamic menuitems, each menuitem is another popup

  I am building an extension that has a pop up whose elements are constructed by a function call everytime the mouse hovers over the popup option. I am able to achieve this. Now I need to have a popup for each of the menu item (inside the original popup) which is not dynamic though. This does not work. the second popup (popup on publicdisplayname[m]) does not open. i have been stuck on this for quite some time and have tried various things cut it doesnt work. Can we do this at all? can we have double dynamic popups?

• ASP.NET MVC 2 router matches correct area route but generates URL to the first registered area inste

  I'm working on a S#arpArchitecture 1.5 project, which uses ASP.NET MVC 2. I've been trying to get areas to work properly but I ran into a problem: The ASP.NET MVC 2 routing engine matches the correct route to my area but then it generates an URL that belongs to the first registered area instead. Here's my request URL: /Framework/Authentication/LogOn?ReturnUrl=%2fDefault.aspx I'm using the Route Tester from Phil Haack and it shows: Matched Route: Framework/{controller}/{action}/{id} Generated URL: /Data/Authentication/LogOn?ReturnUrl=%2FDefault.aspx using the route "Data/{controller}/{action}/{id}" That's clearly wrong, the URL should point to the Framework area, not the Data area. • How to set up RPX widget and facebook app to be able to authenticate with rpx_now?

  Using the sample app for rpx_now gem ( http://github.com/grosser/rpx_now_example) on localhost:3000, I have successfully logged in via Google Accounts, myOpenID, Yahoo, but cannot make it via Facebook. In the RPX app/widget settings I have set my facebook-app key and secret. In my facebook app settings, the Connect URL is myappname.rpxnow.com. But when I try to connect, then I don't even see a facebook login page, just a number of redirects and I am back to my localhost with the following exception http://gist.github.com/386520 . Before I was successfully connecting with oauth2 gem, however, without fetching user data - only authentication. That time I set only key/secret and localhost as my Connect URL. Currently, I don't even ask for email etc., but still the same problem. Can it happen because rpx_now cannot get requested user data from facebook? Or it is a problem of facebook key/secret? May be I need to provide more settings of my facebook app? • How to tackle dell support system? [closed]

  We have purchased a Dell Optiplex 9010 SSFV for our organization's work. Since the first installation two of the USB keyboard keys were not working properly. I had to press those keys two times simultaneously, on first time keys did not work and for for second time it printed two characters (as it were buffering first character.) Two keys that were not working properly: Hexangrave (Below the ESC key: `) Double Quotes (Left the enter key ") We registered our complaint with DELL and they suggested (with some hard to understand and weird ENGLISH accent) some test and tricks, such as switching to different ports, checking keyboard on different PC, and it worked well with diff. PC(with Windows 7 Home Premium installed). It was clear that it is an OS fault, hence they suggested to re-install OS. Problem began here, we have a project on the run and currently a video editing project setup on our system, so can't re-install system in hurry and also DELL persons were not providing any other solution such as updating keyboard driver, etc. Arguments I am a Software Engg. and don't think it is a feasible solution to re-install entire system for simple problems. This prob is coming since the fresh system installation, so I don't think it will solve the problem. Finally, I had to find solution myself and got it here, now I want to show my disappointment to dell persons or at least tell them that they should improve there support system to not advice to re-install entire system for that simple problems. Notes We have purchased 5 years NEXT business day support from DELL for around 8000 INR (Not for that kind of solutions from DELL). So can anyone tell me how to tackle dell support system officially, so that they will pay more attention in near future. Thanks

• I keep losing wireless connection

  I have a WRT54GL v1.1 wireless router and a WUSB54G v4 wireless adapter, both made by Linksys. The router is in the living room by the TV and the my computer is in the bedroom. My ISP is Brighthouse. Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.40GHz 36 °C Conroe 65nm Technology RAM 3.00GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 333MHz (5-4-4-14) Motherboard eMachines EMCP73VT-PM (CPU 1) 26 °C Graphics ASUS VS247 (1920x1080@60Hz) 767MB GeForce GTX 460 (nVidia) 43 °C Hard Drives 466GB Seagate ST350041 8AS SCSI Disk Device (SATA) 35 °C Optical Drives HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH41N SCSI CdRom Device Audio High Definition Audio Device The problem is that my Internet connection will work fine for 15 minutes or so. Then the data will just stop flowing. Windows says I am still connected, and the systray icon still shows five bars. But Comodo Firewall will stop showing up and down traffic, and another of my systray applications complains about a lack of connection. What I usually do is either disconnect from the network manually, or unplug and re-plug the USB adapter. At which point the connection will work properly for another 15 minutes. I've tried unplugging my router for 30 seconds and letting it reboot. I've also tried looking for a newer driver for my adapter but I seem to have the latest version 3.1.3.0. This is a recent problem starting about a week ago. For the previous several months things were working just fine. I haven't made any changes to my system that I am aware of. The only thing I did was open my case to blow the dust out of it, then put everything back together. How do I fix this issue?
