• How to lazy load scripts in YUI that accompany ajax html fragments

  I have a web app with Tabs for Messages and Contacts (think gmail). Each Tab has a Y.on('click') event listener that retrieves an HTML fragment via Y.io() and renders the fragment via node.setContent(). However, the Contact Tab also requires contact.js to enable an Edit button in the fragment. How do I defer the cost of loading contact.js until the user clicks on the Contacts tab? How should contact.js add it's listener to the Edit button? The Complete function of my Tab's on('click') event could serialize Get.script('contact.js') after Y.io('fragment'). However, for better performance, I would prefer to download the script in parallel to downloading the HTML fragment. In that case, I would need to defer adding an event listener to the Edit button until the Edit button is available. This seems like a common RIA design pattern. What is the best way to implement this with YUI? How should I get the script? How should I defer sections of the script until elements in the fragment are available in the DOM?

  I have a 2 dimensional array. And each value contains a depth. What I want is that the the array is converted to a (unordered) HTML list. I already found a solution in PHP DOMDocument, but I can't really use it since I have to add a lot of classes and content to the HTML. I' have tried to make something myself, but it didn't workout. • Is it necessary to "escape" character "<" and ">" for javascript string?

  Sometimes, server side will generate strings to be embedded in inline JavaScript code. For example, if "UserName" should be generated by ASP.NET. Then it looks like. <script> var username = "<%UserName%>"; </script> This is not safe, because a user can have his/her name to be </script><script>alert('bug')</script></script> It is XSS vulnerability. So, basically, the code should be: <script> var username = "<% JavascriptEncode(UserName)%>"; </script> What JavascriptEncode does is to add charater "\" before "/" and "'" and """. So, the output html is like. var username = "<\/scriptalert(\'bug\')<\/script<\/script"; Browser will not interpret "<\/script" as end of script block. So, XSS in avoided. However, there are still "<" and "" there. It is suggested to escape these two characters as well. First of all, I don't believe it is a good idea to change "<" to "&lt;" and "" to "&gt;" here. And, I'm not sure changing "<" to "\<" and "" to "\" is recognizable to all browsers. It seems it is not necessary to do further encoding for "<" and "". Is there any suggestion on this? Thanks.

• What does 'postMessage()' do when called on an object tag?

  I was recently searching for a way to call the print function on a PDF I was displaying in adobe air. I solved this problem with a little help from this fellow, and by calling postMessage on my PDF like so: //this is the HTML I use to view my PDF <object id="PDFObj" data="test.pdf" type="application/pdf"/> ... //this actionscript lives in my air app var pdfObj:Object = htmlLoader.window.document.getElementById("PDFObj"); pdfObj.postMessage([message]); I've tried this in JavaScript as well, just to be sure it wasn't adobe sneaking in and helping me out... var obj = document.getElementById("PDFObj"); obj.postMessage([message]); Works well in JavaScript and in ActionScript. I looked up what the MDC had to say about postMessage, but all I found was window.postMessage. Now, the code works like a charm, and postMessage magically sends my message to my PDF's embedded JavaScript. However, I'm still not sure how I'm doing this. Any ideas?

The checkboxes will be used for a checklist of what to bring to an event (like a packing list). I imported an XML file with the names and phone numbers from the company phone directory. Using only XSLT, can I create a way to search that directory? • Handling file uploads with JavaScript and Google Gears, is there a better solution?

  So - I've been using this method of file uploading for a bit, but it seems that Google Gears has poor support for the newer browsers that implement the HTML5 specs. I've heard the word deprecated floating around a few channels, so I'm looking for a replacement that can accomplish the following tasks, and support the new browsers. I can always fall back to gears / standard file POST's but these following items make my process much simpler: Users MUST to be able to select multiple files for uploading in the dialog. I MUST be able to receive status updates on the transmission of a file. (progress bars) I would like to be able to use PUT requests instead of POST I would like to be able to easily attach these events to existing HTML elements using JavaScript. I.E. the File Selection should be triggered on a <button> click. I would like to be able to control response/request parameters easily using JavaScript. I'm not sure if the new HTML5 browsers have support for the desktop/request objects gears uses, or if there is a flash uploader that has these features that I am missing in my google searches. • Use of 'this keyword' javascript in IE ?

  Is there a workaround for Internet Explorer to implement the functionality offered by 'this' javascript keyword to get the dom element that triggered the event? My problem scenario is : I have a variable number of text fields in the html form, like input type="text" id="11" input type="text" id="12" .. I need to handle the "onchange" event for each text field, and the handling is dependent on the 'id' of the field that triggered the event. So far I understand that my options are: 1) attach a dedicated event handler for each text field. so if I have n fields, i have n different functions, something like: input type="text" id="11" onchange="function11();" input type="text" id="12" onchange="function12();" but the text fields are added and removed dynamically, so a better way would be to have one generic function instead. 2) use the 'this' keyword like: input type="text" id="11" onchange="functionGeneric(this);" input type="text" id="12" onchange="functionGeneric(this);" But this option does not work with Internet Explorer. Can anyone suggest a work around for getting it work in IE or some other solution that can be applied here? Thanks.

• Scriptaculous problem in IE

  Hi there. We've got this very annoying problem with Scriptaculous and Internet Explorer 7/8. We have two Effect.toggles on the same page, but only one of them is ever working (the first one). I hope it's some simple mistake in my implementation, but I can't seem to find any decent documentation. Hopefully somebody here can help.   I can't seem to find any examples of this having been done anywhere on the internet before but here is what I am going to attempt to do...I'm trying to go about the cleanest possible way of laying this out. So I have an image gallery where the images are all different sizes. I want to make it so that when you mouseover the image, it turns a shade of orange. Just a simple hover effect. I want to do this without using an image swap, otherwise I'd have to create an orange colored hover-image for each individual gallery image, I'd like this to be a bit more dynamic. My plan is just to position an empty div over the image absolutely with a background color, width and height 100% and opacity: 0. Then using jquery, on mouseover I'd have the opacity fade to 0.3 or so, and fade back to zero on mouseout. My question is, what would be the best way to layout the html and css to do this efficiently and cleanly. As you can see I allow user to select multiple Items. I want to open on Submit button click as many popup windows as many Items he selected in a list. Each popUp window should open some url like www.example.com/test.php?id=OPTION_SELECTED . So for each of the selected options I ll get a pop up window whith different url. Please Help.

• How to loop a video in Flash

  So i had a video that was in quicktime format, threw it into flash, encoded it without a problem and here is the result i got: http://www.healthcarepros.net/travel.html I would like the video to "loop" or "autorewind" as soon as it ends but i am having the hardest time trying to figure how to do this.
