• Import data from multiple CSV files to an Excel sheet

  I need to import data from 50 similar csv files to a single excel sheet. Is there any way to get only selected columns from each file and put them together in one sheet. Structure of my csv files: A few columns exactly same in all the files. (I want them to be in excel) then one column with same column name but different data which I want to place next to each other with different names in the excel sheet. I do not not want all other remaining columns from csv files. In short, read all csv files, get all the columns which are common to all csv & put in excel sheet. Now, take one column from each file which has the same header but different data and put one after the other in excel sheet with named from the csv file name. Leave remaining rest of the columns. Write excel sheet to a excel file. Initially I thought it can be easily done, but considering my programming skill in learning stage it is way difficult for me. Please help.

• How to write a generic USB Host Driver for Printers from various vendors?

  I want to develop a USB host on an embedded device that will talk to printers from various vendors. Drivers for the vendor specific printers would be available on PC which is ultimately communicating with printer but my device is facilitating this communication and needs to perform the basic handshaking/setup of the printer (i.e, it needs to know when the printer is connected, what are the socket IDs that needs to be opened for CTRL and DATA transmissions etc). All of these printers are supposed to comply with IEEE 1284.4 standards but I see that many of them vary quiet a bit. One approach I have is to take the USB traces of handshaking from each of these printers and write various sections of code respectively (I know, that sounds ridiculous!). Is there a generic way to do this? Is there any available forum where these standard informations are mentioned? For eg: EPSON uses 'EPSON-CTRL' and 'EPSON-DATA' for its control and data services which needs to be provided to get the socket ID for these services. I am pretty sure HPs, Canon's etc would have their own service names as well. As per the standards, this was supposed to be captured in IANA but I dont see anything there. • Visual Studio 2010 compile error with std::string?

  So this is possibly the strangest thing I've seen recently and was curious how this could happen. The compiler gave me an error saying that std::string is undefined when used as a return type but not when used as a parameter in methods of a class! #pragma once #include <string> #include <vector> // forward declarations class CLocalReference; class CResultSetHandle; class MyClass { public: MyClass() {} ~MyClass {} void Retrieve(const CLocalReference& id, CResultSetHandle& rsh, std::string& item); // this is fine const std::string Retrieve(const CLocalReference& id, CResultSetHandle& rsh); // this fails with std::string is undefined?!?! }; Doing a Rebuild All it still happened I had to choose clean solution and then Rebuild All again after for the universe to realign. While it's resolved for the moment I'd still like to know what could have caused this because I'm at a loss as to why when there should be no conflicts especially when I always use fully qualified names for STL.

  This is a strange question, I've never tried to do this before. I have a repetitive process requiring that I copy and paste data from text boxes in one program into another program for further processing. I'd like to automate this process using VB .NET. The application from which the data is gathered isn't mine, so I don't have ActiveX-like access to its controls. How would you write an application to gain access to a form from another application, to be able to find the controls on the form, and gather the values from them? Just experimenting, I've used the following code. This resulted in only the name of the form to which this code belongs. It didn't find the names of any other forms I have open, and I have a lot open to choose from. This is frustrating because it's only step one of what I'll need to do to make my life easier... • Why does Perl lose foreign characters on Windows; can this be fixed (if so, how)?

The particular problem I'm trying to fix involves working with image files stored on a local drive, and manipulating the file names which may contain foreign characters. The two experiments shown below are intermediate debugging steps. • How can I determine whether or not to add project items using IWizard?

  Hi, I am generating entity wrappers in VS2010 based on dynamic objects in a CRM system. In addition to the entity code, I want to add an EntityBase of which all entities inherit from. If the file exists in the project from before, it should not be added. I am using an IWizard implementation to give the generator the object names etc. Is it possible in the IWizard implementation to determine whether or not to add an item if it exists in the project from before? How do I get a hold of the project handle and its items in or before the ShouldAddProjectItem method? • When to use basic types (Integer, String), and when to write a new class?

  Stackoverflow users: A lot of things can be represented in programs by using the basic types, or we can create a new class for it. Example: A social security number can be a number, string or its own object. (Other common examples: Phone numbers, names, zip codes, user id, order id and other id's.) My question is: When should the basic types be used, and when should we write ourselves a new class? I see that when you need to add behavior, you'll want to create a class (example, social security number parsing, validation, formatting, etc). But is this the only criteria? I have come across cases where many of these things are represented as java Integers and/or Strings. We loose the benefit of type-checking, and I have often seen bugs caused by parameters being mixed in calls to function(Intever, Integer, Integer, Integer). On the other hand, some programmers are opposed to over-designing by creating classes for "eveything". Obviously, the answer is "it depends". But, what do you think, and what do you normally do?

• Can't access form elements

  Hi, my problem is that my variables are not working in javascript. all variables need names without some character at the beginning, this is the stupid thing...Anyways, im trying to make a funtion that makes "select all checkboxes". • Deserialization of a DataSet... deal with column name changes? how to migrate data from one column to another?

  So, we wanted to slightly generalize a couple columns in our typed dataset... basically dropped a foreign key constraint and then wanted to change a couple column names to better reflect their new state. All that is easy. The problem is that our users may have serialized out the old version of the DataSet as XML. We want to be able to read those old XML files and deserialize them into the revised DataSet. It seems that would be a fairly common desire... but I haven't yet figured out the right thing to search the internet for. One possible solution would seem to be some way to give a DataColumn an alias or alternate name such that when it reads the old column name, it knows that data can be read into the column with the new column name. I can find no support for any such thing. Another approach would seem to be an "after deserialization" method of some sort... so, I would let it read in the old column values into a normal DataColumn with that name, and then in the "after deserialization" method I would just move the data from the obsolete column into the new column, and then delete the old columns. That would seem to generalize to many other situations... and having such events or hooks is pretty common in ADO.NET. But I have looked for such a hook and haven't yet found it. If no "after deserialization" hook, it would seem I ought to be able to override ReadXml or ReadXmlSerializable methods to call the base and then do my "after" stuff to fix up old data into new. But it does not appear that is possible. Soooo, I have to think backward compatibility with old serialized DataSets and simple data migration would be a well-solved problem... so, trying to reinvent that wheel seems silly. But so far, I haven't seemed to find any documentation on doing those things. Suggestions? What is best practice for this?

  I'm suffering from a variant of the problem described here: ActiveRecord assigns table aliases for association joins fairly unpredictably. The first association to a given table keeps the table name. Further joins with associations to that table use aliases including the association names in the path... but it is common for app developers not to know about [other] joins at coding time. In my case I'm being bitten by a toxic mix of has_many and :include. Many tables in my schema have a state column, and the has_many wants to specify conditions on that column: has_many :foo, :conditions => {:state => 1}. However, since the state column appears in many tables, I disambiguate by explicitly specifying the table name: has_many :foo, :conditions => "this_table.state = 1". This has worked fine until now, when for efficiency I want to add an :include to preload a fairly deep tree of data. This causes the table to be aliased inconsistently in different code paths. My reading of the tickets referenced above is that this problem is not and will not be fixed in Rails 2.x. However, I don't see any way to apply the suggested workaround (to specify the aliased table name explicitly in the query). I'm happy to specify the table alias explicitly in the has_many statement, but I don't see any way to do so. As such, the workaround doesn't appear applicable to this situation (nor, I presume, in many 'named_scope' scenarios). Is there a viable workaround?

I can do this with the first listing, but every listing after that isn't affected. how can i tell jquery that foreach letter apply the js code so it can toggle up/down the #show. I don't want to this 26 times (one time for each letter in the alphabet), I tried to use class instead of id but that causes all the #show to toggleup heh.

• Localization of DisplayNameAttribute

  Hi, I am looking for a way to localize properties names displayed in a PropertyGrid. The property's name may be "overriden" using the DisplayNameAttribute attribute. Unfortunately attributes can not have non constant expressions. So I can not use strongly typed resources such as: class Foo { [DisplayAttribute(Resources.MyPropertyNameLocalized)] // do not compile string MyProperty {get; set;} } I had a look around and found some suggestion to inherit from DisplayNameAttribute to be able to use resource. I would end up up with code like: class Foo { [MyLocalizedDisplayAttribute("MyPropertyNameLocalized")] // not strongly typed string MyProperty {get; set;} } However I lose strongly typed resource benefits which is definitely not a good thing. Then I came across DisplayNameResourceAttribute which may be what I'm looking for. But it's supposed to be in Microsoft.VisualStudio.Modeling.Design namespace and I can't find what reference I am supposed to add for this namespace. Anybody know if there's a easier way to achieve DisplayName localization in a good way ? or if there is as way to use what Microsoft seems to be using for Visual Studio ?

• Handle complex options with Boost's program_options

  I have a program that generates graphs using different multi-level models. Each multi-level model consists of a generation of a smaller seed graph (say, 50 nodes) which can be created from several models (for example - for each possible edge, choose to include it with probability p). After the seed graph generation, the graph is expanded into a larger one (say 1000 nodes), using one of another set of models. In each of the two stages, each model require a different number of parameters. I would like to be have program_options parse the different possible parameters, according to the names of the models. For example, say I have two seed graphs models: SA, which has 1 parameters, and SB, which has two. Also for the expansion part, I have two models: A and B, again with 1 and 2 parameters, respectively. I would like to be able do something like: ./graph_generator --seed=SA 0.1 --expansion=A 0.2 ./graph_generator --seed=SB 0.1 3 --expansion=A 0.2 ./graph_generator --seed=SA 0.1 --expansion=B 10 20 ./graph_generator --seed=SB 0.1 3 --expansion=B 10 20 and have the parameters parsed correctly. Is that even possible?

  Hi everyone, I am trying to create a horizontal UIScrollView with a few images in it. The user should be able to scroll horizontal between all the images. If he holds down the finger the scrolling should stop. • Adding variably named fields to Python classes

  I have a python class, and I need to add an arbitrary number of arbitrarily long lists to it. The names of the lists I need to add are also arbitrary. For example, in PHP, I would do this: class MyClass { } $c = new MyClass(); $n = "hello" $c.$n = array(1, 2, 3); How do I do this in Python? I'm also wondering if this is a reasonable thing to do. The alternative would be to create a dict of lists in the class, but since the number and size of the lists is arbitrary, I was worried there might be a performance hit from this. If you are wondering what I'm trying to accomplish, I'm writing a super-lightweight script interpreter. The interpreter walks through a human-written list and creates some kind of byte-code. The byte-code of each function will be stored as a list named after the function in an "app" class. I'm curious to hear any other suggestions on how to do this as well.

I can add new properties at any time (it's a normal model). Lets say the Ad is of the type 'hotel'. My problem: These fields are not validated because I can't know what their names are. I need to add validations dynamically somehow. • MySQL COUNT() total posts within a specific criteria?

  Hey, I've been losing my hair trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong, let me explain abit about my MySQL structure (so you get a better understanding) before I go straight to the question. I have a simple PHP forum and I have a column in both tables (for posts and topics) named 'deleted' if it equals 0 that means its displayed (considered not deleted/exists) or if it equals 1 it hidden (considered deleted/doesn't exist) - bool/lean. Now, the 'specific criteria' I'm on about...I'm wanting to get a total post count within a specific forum using its id (forum_id), ensuring it only counts posts which are not deleted (deleted = 0) and their parent topics are not deleted either (deleted = 0). The column/table names are self explanatory (see my efforts below for them - if needed). I've tried the following (using a 'simple' JOIN): SELECT COUNT(t1.post_id) FROM forum_posts AS t1, forum_topics AS t2 WHERE t1.forum_id = '{$forum_id}' AND t1.deleted = 0 AND t1.topic_id = t2.topic_id AND t2.deleted = 0 LIMIT 1 I've also tried this (using a Subquery): SELECT COUNT(t1.post_id) FROM forum_posts AS t1 WHERE t1.forum_id = '{$forum_id}' AND t1.deleted = 0 AND (SELECT deleted FROM forum_topics WHERE topic_id = t1.topic_id) = 0 LIMIT 1 But both don't comply with the specific criteria.   Are there any rules / guidelines for DATA form XLS sheets to be inserted into SQL- DB? I have a group of Excel templates in 2005.Each concerned cell in Excel template is named. When Excel sheets are filled, saved and submitted , the values are transferred to the database. Excel sheets have names for various cells that are to b e filled by the user EX:- for the total number of Milk in the Beginning a given month , there is an Excel Cell Named "mtsBpiPTR180" Total number of Milk in the Ending a given month , there is an Excel Cell Named **"mtsEpiPTR180"** I have added 2 new cells , named "mtsBpiPTR180PA" and "mtsEpiPTR180PA". Now I try to upload the Excel File. But I AM UNABLE TO SEE MY FILLED DATA FROM "mtsBpiPTR180PA" and "mtsEpiPTR180PA" INTO THE RELATED DB/table. The above 2 are empty in the DB/table, even though I have filled them and successfully filed the Excel sheets Now no matter how much I search in the DB/stored procs i am unable to the ACTUAL STORED PROC or how the Data form Excel sheet is inserted into Tables WHERE DATA FROM XLS is inserted into DB. So was wondering:- Are there any rules / guidelines for DATA form XLS sheets to be inserted into SQL- DB?

• IIS7 URL Rewriting: How not to drop HTTPS protocol from rewritten URL?

  I'm working on a website that's using IIS 7's URL rewriting feature to do a permanent redirect from example.com to www.example.com, as well as rewrites from similar domain names to the "main" one, such as from www.examples.com to www.example.com. This rewrite rule - shown below - has worked well for sometime now. However, we recently added HTTPS support and noticed that if users visit one of the URLs to be rewritten to www.example.com then HTTPS is dropped. For instance, if a user visits https://example.com they get redirected to http://www.example.com, whereas we would like them to be sent to https://www.example.com.   Hi, There's a class 'Car' with brand and model as properties. I have a list of items of this class List<Car> myCars. I need to represent in a JSP website 2 ComboBox, one for brand and another for model, that when you select the brand, in the model list only appear the ones from that brand. I don't know how to do this in a dynamic way. Any suggestion where to start? Thanks Update Ok, what I do now is send in the request a list with all the brand names, and a list of the items. Try to check result by putting additional temp variables - but it's ok - please see pic below Where I'm wrong? Maybe i use dataGridView not in correct way?

• switch namespace by if condtion

  Hi, in my C++ program I have several namespaces that contain several pointers with identical names. I then want a function to choose a namespace according to a parameter. I.e. something like: #include <iostream> namespace ns1{ double x[5]={1,2,3,4,5}; } namespace ns2{ double x[5]={6,7,8,9,10}; } int main(){ int b=1; if(b==1){ using namespace ns1; } if(b==2){ using namespace ns2; } std::cout << x[3] << std::endl; } However, this doesn't work since the compiler complains that x isn't known in that scope. I guess the problem is that "using namespace ..." is only valid within the if-statement. I think that it should be possible to switch namespaces somehow, but cannot find out how... • Adding linked table to Access 2003 while keeping ODBC connection info in MDB

  I have an Access 2003 database MDB where all of the tables exist as linked tables within SQL Server 2005. The MDB file contains all of the ODBC information that points to the correct SQL Server and log-on credentials (trusted connection). What I would like to do is add a new linked table to the MDB file however I am not sure how to go about specifying the ODBC connection information. When I try to add a new linked table I keep getting prompted to locate or create a DSN file. I don't want to have to create a new DSN entry on every machine, rather I would like all that information stored within the Access MDB file itself. In the existing database I can "hover" over the table names and see the ODBC connection info as a tool-tip. All I need to do is add another linked table using the same connection information. I do have access to the SQL Server where the tables are linked to,. I have already created the new table I wanted to add. I just need to find a way to link to it.

• Lucene Search Returning Extra, Undesired Records

  I have a Lucene index that contains a field called 'Name'. I escape all special characters before inserting a value into my index using QueryParser.Escape(value). In my example I have 2 documents with the following names respectively: Test Test (Test) They get inserted into my index as such (I can confirm this using Luke): [test] [test] [\(test\)] I insert these values as TOKENIZED and using the StandardAnalyzer. When I perform a search, I use the QueryParser.Escape(searchString) against my search string input to escape special characters and then use the QueryParser with my 'Name' field and the StandardAnalyzer to perform my search. When I perform a search for 'Test', I get back both documents in my index (as expected). However, when I perform a search for 'Test (Test)', I am getting back both documents still. I realize that in both examples it matches on the 'test' term in the index, but I am confused in my 2nd example why it would not just pull back the document with the value of 'Test (Test)' because my search should create two terms: [test] and [\(test\)] I would imagine it would perform some sort of boolean operator where BOTH terms must match in that situation so I would get back just one record. Is there something I am missing or a trick to make the search behave as desired?
