• exim4: multiple domains/IPs

  On my VPS I have 3 IPs which all have their own domain and their own reverse-DNS records. I have a website on each domain, sending emails. The problem is: the emails are rejected by many hosts because the reverse dns doesn't fit the host in the helo. All the emails are sent from the primary IP and therefore only one of the three domains work. I am looking for a way for exim to check which email adress i'm using to send the email and adapt the domain/IP transmitted in the helo. I have already tried many configurations but nothing has worked up to now. Simply changing MX-Records is impossible too, as I recieve (and also send) email via gmail and I don't want to set up my own webmail. Does anyone know a solution?

• Cross-update Word Fields

  I want to change a date in a field within my word document, and have it update a couple other fields automatically within the same document. The behavior I'm seeking is basically the same as what a spreadsheet can do. Is this possible? More specifically, if the first page of the document has the date Jan 20 2012, I want to be able to change it, and then watch a couple other dates elsewhere automatically change to either the same date or the same date plus six days. I would also "settle" for having all three fields updated from a central document property (though I don't know how to create one of those properties). Regardless of which approach is used, I want one of the dates to be <value> plus six days such as Jan 26 2012 based on the earlier example I gave.

• Virtualization Solution for Family Use

  I'm trying to put together a solution for my family (wife + three kids). At the moment I have one newish desktop and a couple of aging laptops. There are always arguments over who should have the fast desktop. I'm thinking I would like to invest in a new powerful server and then run virtual desktops for each user off the server so that each user would have the same experience regardless of which actual PC they were using. I would like to use just a Linux based desktop, but unfortunately I need to support some Windows games for the kids. I've not tried wine for the games but would be willing to give it a try. Any advice on what the setup should be would be most appreciated.

• Thin web server - single or multiple instances per IP address:port?

  I'm deploying a rack/sinatra/web socket app onto several servers and will use thin as the web server (http://code.macournoyer.com/thin/). There are almost no views to show, so I am not front-ending it with a traditional web server like Apache or nginx. In general, you see thin started and the underlying config file for it has the number of server instances to start, say 3, and the port to start with, say 5000. So, in my example, when thin starts, it starts up three instances on a range of ports, starting on port 5000. If I have a series of virtual machines, say 3, 6, 9, etc. that I treat as a cluster, would/should I choose to start a single thin instance on each VM, or multiple instances on each VM? Why? • Dediced server for all network functions?

  I want to set up a fictional network configuration for a school in my neighborhood. They have about 50 computers altogether, 2X20 in computer rooms for students and another 10 scattered around for various professors. They should all access the internet through a dedicated Linux router machine. What they would like is to have domain names for those three computer groups. Lab1, Lab2 and Professors. The computers in Lab2 and Lab1 should have static ip and should all be named by numbers. So there should be 1@Lab1, 2@Lab1.... etc. And the Professors network should have a DHCP, with authentication. Is it an ok solution to have all these functions on a single server? (The one which will be used as a router) Do I have to set a local DNS for domain naming? Do the host names for Lab computers have to be set on the clients, or can they be automatically assigned?

• Rails 2 and Ngnix: https pages can't load css or js (but will load graphics)

  ADMISSION: i've posted this same question on stackoverflow, before realising it's probabaly better suited to superuser, but it kind of depends on the answer: If it turns out to be a problem in my nginx config, it's definitely superuser. If it turns out to be a problem in my Rails config (or code) then it's arguably stackoverflow. I'm adding some https pages to my rails site. In order to test it locally, i'm running my site under one mongrel_rails instance (on 3000) and nginx. I've managed to get my nginx config to the point where i can actually go to the https pages, and they load. Except, the javascript and css files all fail to load: looking in the Network tab in chrome web tools, i can see that it is trying to load them via an https url. Eg, one of the non-working file urls is https://cmw-local.co.uk/stylesheets/cmw-logged-out.css?1383759216 I have these set up (or at least think i do) in my nginx config to redirect to the http versions of the static files. This seems to be working for graphics, but not for css and js files. If i click on this in the Network tab, it takes me to the above url, which redirects to the http version. So, the redirect seems to be working in some sense, but not when they're loaded by an https page. Like i say, i thought i had this covered in the second try_files directive in my config below, but maybe not. • Own website fails to load first time

  I have a website running on a VPS, every time I first try to load the website the connection times out. If I press try again, it loads directly. I'm not sure whether this is a DNS issue or a server issue. As far as I know everything is set up correctly. Also, it has been doing this from the moment I got this server and set up my domain name. And that's about two to three months ago. You may take a look here: http://www.wegotcha.nl/ As you can see at this moment it's just an image, there are no scripts running in the background or anything. The only error Apache gives me is that favicon.ico cannot be found. It's an Apache webserver running on Ubuntu 12.04.1 (newest version) I update all packages almost every day (apt-get update && apt-get upgrade). I am merely an amateur on the area of webservers so any help will be appreciated. :)

• Remote X-windows between new RHEL5 and old Solaris 8

  I have a very small lab network with three boxes: a modern x86-based RHEL3 box, an x86-based RHEL5 box, and a 1998-vintage SPARC Ultra5 with Solaris 8. I can use ssh -X to run a program on the RHEL5 box and view the windows on the RHEL3 box. I believe this uses xauth and magic cookies?? I have followed the X-Windows HOWTO to set up xauth on the Solaris box, but so far no dice. I would like to be able to use the X-windows server on the RHEL3 box with a client program on the Solaris box (program running on Solaris host, windows appearing at Linux host). Is there a trick to this, or have I made a mistake following the instructions for setting up xauth and magic cookie?

• Windows 7 Pro - "domain" like login screen appeared

  I'm setting up a new PC with the Windows 7 Pro. After some actions (software installing, config changes, applying updates ), my login screen looks like the PC is connected to the domain: I have checked the settings and everywhere the "workgroup" is checked. I have been googling for three hours trying some solutions (Control UserPasswords2, regedit and the ".DEFAULT" key) but nothing works. I cannot see the user icons - only the login screen as above. I cannot also change the account icon. Has anybody seen such an issue?

  I have done some hefty Google'ing and I can't seem to find a single solution to this issue that I cam currently experiencing. • SSD runs faster on Windows as compared to Linux [closed]

  Windows 7 seems to install, boot and run much smoother & faster than each the three linux distros I have recently tried (Ubuntu 12.04 unity, Linux mint 13 MATE, and Fedora 17 on gnome 3.4). Why am I facing bad performance in Linux? I have tweaked my Linux installs for the SSD (enabling trim, disabling swap, etc.) I'm using an Acer TravelMate with i5-2410m processor, intel hd 3000 graphics, 8 gigs of ram, and a 256 gb samsung 830 ssd. Edit: Boot times are 10-15 seconds slower, there is noticeable delay from login to fully loaded desktop, and in general does not appear to be as responsive as my old windows 7 install or the Linux guests I had running on it.

  Is it possible to create email addresses like these: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] and have them all handled by one mail server, as three different mail boxes? (Many examples I've seen talk about directing mail to [email protected] into the same mail box as [email protected] - but this is not what I'm looking for.) I haven't specified the server technology being used because I'm wondering if this is generally possible. If you know that server x can do this, please mention it in your answer! • Attempt to connect to wireless internet at home and i am asked for User Credentals, nothing I enter works

  I just got a new modem and am trying to connect my windows 7 desktop to the new wireless connection. I had no issues on the three previous connections I have used, but for some reason when I click on the icon for Wireless Network Connections, click on my network, it asks for User Credentials. Nothing I type in works. I have tried saving credentials in credentials manager, using my login info, using the network's login info, recreating the network manually, plugging and unplugging my modem, literally every solution on every forum for similar issues. I have no idea what to do now. any ideas?

• How can I force the Pictures app to refresh its library?

  I've imported some pictures to my "My Pictures" folder using Adobe Lightroom, but the Pictures app doesn't seem to notice the new files? Is there some way to force it to refresh its library? To be clear, Pictures are sorted under C:\Users\<username>\Pictures\ by year, then date; for example: C:\Users\<username>\Pictures\2012\2012-10-20, these show, however those in C:\Users\<username>\Pictures\2012\2012-10-29 do not, despite coming from the same camera, being in the same format, thumbnails working in Exporer, the pictures opening in the Pictures app via a double click in explorer, and Windows Media Centre having no problems. I have tried excluding the Pictures library, and reincluding it, but that had no effect. It has taken three or four reboots for even the folders to show up in the app, but it reports them as empty

• Setting up WiFi extenders... is it possible to daisy-chain them?

  At a location with limited cabling, I've had to set up WiFi signal extenders to cover the whole area. Here is a crude diagram... Internet - WiFi/Gateway - Extender 1 - Extender 2 | | PC (ethernet) WiFi device I was able to successfully daisy-chain three together, and I can access the internet from WiFi devices connected to the farthest extender. Is this a supported configuration? If not, what kind of issues can arise from it? The reason why I ask is that the PC keeps reporting IP address conflicts, and I'm wondering if that's caused because of the way this is configured. Additionally, I noticed that the extenders named their own SSID similar to the one they are connected to, but with a suffix. Would there be any issue in naming them all with the same SSID, to enable seamless roaming as you would with multiple standalone APs?

• Users will be kicked out of a network drive (DFS)

  Hi, In early January 2011, we completely switched to Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. On our domain controller set up a DFS is that the users as "Z: drive" is displayed. The DFS was it in the same way during our time with Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows XP. At the time it has always worked without problems. Since Windows 7, we have sometimes the case that when a user accesses to the Z drive, the Explorer will return to the workplace without a user can do. After two to three trials of the Explorer remains in the network drive and the users work. This phenomenon occurs irregularly and you can not restrict exactly why. In the event log at the time no obvious entries are logged. Does anyone know the problem or has had similar experiences? I am grateful for any help. Greetings, sY!v3Rs

  Working on Windows 7 platform, I'm interested in creating an app that could run on Android devices (phone or tablet), IOS devices (iPhone, iPad), and the web. First target would be Android. Do you remember those old Arthur Murray footstep diagrams to teach dancing? I want to do the same thing, but animate the steps, so the user can play them all, as well as step forward or backward thru them at their own pace. Perhaps one could generate an animated GIF and then play it on the platform. So there would seem to be two parts to this: 1) A good way to generate the animation images. I can, for example, see using SketchUp - something I know - for this. But is there something better it would be worth investing in? And, 2) How to play the result, including options for playback speed control, and even forward/backward stepping? Ideally a single, or easily adaptable player to the three different OS platforms.

Until about two or three months ago when I connected that to My Laptop USB3 port, that worked very well. But now when I'm connecting that to My device, The system does not detect any Hard Drives. When plug in the USB2 port is working properly. I connected that to another Laptop whit USB3 port but I had the same problem. I tested My Laptop port with a Flash Memory by USB3 and ports were healthy and I'm sure they are working. For this issue, I changed the windows, but it still did not work. What can I do?   I have a Acer Aspire TimelineX 4830TG-6808 laptop running windows 7 Ultimate with one VGA port and one HDMI port. It has one Intel HD Graphics family card and one NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M. Right now I have one monitor running via the VGA port, and also the basic laptop monitor. When I look at the monitor setup, I see one unused video card available. Can I have another monitor via the HDMI port? If I cannot run three monitors, is there some way I could make a large "single" desktop that extends over two monitors? For the sake of celerity, maybe something like having a virtual machine window that extends over two monitors. Could this maybe come from third party software?

I'm familiar with the basic usage of the Kerberos protocol where the protocol authenticates a client when he tries to use a shared resource (server, folder, printer, etc.). We have three distinct and independent .NET applications that we develop inhouse (app A, app B & app C) but they need to communicate for a given reason (A recieves messages only from B and C and C recieves messages only from B). Is it possible to configure the Kerberos services to authenticate messages/request between two .NET apps ? (Instead of a user-server authentication, we will have an application-application authentication)

  I got 3 display working in Linux. I have set it up so I have Xinerama and 3 different X sessions. So my 3 displays are not all the same size, two are 1680x1050 and then the other which is between the two is 2560x1600. So my issue is when I chose span, even if the image is larger than all 3 resolutions combined, the center monitor has bars at the top and the bottom because span scales the image it seems. Is there a way if I bypass the gui to have an image span all three monitors but with no scaling? Urgent! Please help! ;-)

  I'm getting my head around how app fabric clustering works and there's something I'm not sure about. Given a structure where we have one named cache, with two lead hosts and (say) three cache hosts and high availability turned off and the lead host(s) performing the management role. When one cache host goes down do you loose the data that was on that cache host? In this MSDN article it states: Data on the non-lead hosts would be lost (assuming high availability was not enabled), but the rest of the cluster could continue serving and storing data But I was unsure if redundancy is built into the system. Would you loose x amount of data or would one of the other cache hosts store this data also and pick up the slack?

• T60 Screen/LCD gets black after some minutes with a highpitched sound rising and fading

  Just now my T60 screen got "black" (so no display). On my second monitor: no problems so the VGA output works. Symptom: Screen blanks / no display, but it works on the second monitor Steps to reproduce: - boot - wait (it does not matter what you do you do not have to login or anything) - (now the monitor of the laptop slowly begins to make a ssssssssHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHWOEOEssssssss noise of about 10 seconds) - right after the sounds ends, the monitor gets black. Sometimes it seems to be the same each time. Software: Installed no new software before/after, running ZoneAlarm and antivirus. Other: It does not feel hot in any place, there don't seem to be running processes with strange behaviour. Warranty: Out of warranty What was I doing: Typing text on a website and doing some PHP coding in a text editor. What can I do here other than buy a new laptop? Does it sound familiar to known cases? I have read replacing the "inverter" AND the "backlightning" would that make sense? Update 2: I replaced the inverter with another inverter, but IO have the same problem. I DID notice that the inverter is the component that makes the sssssssssssssHHHHHHHHHH sound AND it becomes very hot in a few seconds. (So both the old and the test one) The problem is hmmm wat is then the thing that makes the inverter hot by (assumption) after which it shuts itself down. Is it either the input or the output? The output seems to me not, because the screen seems to function so it must be the electricity coming in. But what causes it to become so hot would it be the VGA card outputting some unusual high voltage seems unlikely? I am looking for the component to order / replace update 3: Great news. Ewendish gave me the hint to look in the BIOS. While I was in the BIOS I noticed that the screen did not switch off and there was not a high pitched sound. So I lowered some settings in the BIOS. I then noticed that with brightness turned to 0 (via FN End), it does not make a high pitched sound and does not turn off, with brightness turned up just three "stripes" it starts making the sound. So I could from now on work under lowest brightness modus or... see where the problem lies. So as stated below with either power management or display drivers / ATI Catalyst settings / Windows display settings. I'm trying to see where it lies, but I will google some first. Update 4: I wiped clean the Windows XP installation and installed Windows 7 on it. Unfortunately the problem remains: as soon as the brightness goes up the screen starts hissing. This means... back to original thought: it probably IS a hardware problem. Although ... again... if it is NOT the inverter, what is it? Could it be the backlightning component? I could try to switch that with a another T60... but this is quite tricky.
